What's that supposed to mean?

This show really got me into the UFC, I watched all of season one and I have been getting the ppv stuff recently also.

They also have an 8 fight live event on spike like once a month, not really sure on the schedule but it is called Spike Tv's ultimate fight night. I think Unleashed is going to be moved to another night now that the season 2 is starting, which looks good.

I think that if Melvin would have let his hands go from the start he would have won. I thought for sure that would be his plan.

newmexneon
08-30-2005, 10:08 AM
He let the pressure of being on tv get to him, I thought for sure that he was gonna start throwin his hands and the fight was gonna be over real quick, but he said it himself, he froze up and got gun shy. It was also easy to see that he needs some wrestling training, he did alright with a couple of his throws but once he was on his back he got kind of lost on what to do.

Yeah he broke his right hand sometime during the fight, but even before that he wasnt swinging a lot like he should have been.

J-MAN_Begins
08-31-2005, 02:59 PM
but he kept fighting. thats the important thing. Everyone is nervous once they walk in to the ring and in the first round. Especially since the first round the other guy was waiting to get in close quarters. If melvin stood infront of him throwing punches they would have been on the ground the entire fight.

Savage
08-31-2005, 07:36 PM
Melvin should have taken more initiative. Thrown more strikes. Less reaction and more reaction. I mean look at the guy when he's training. Guy's got skills. Then he got in there and he got all timid...I understand why of course but...yeah, after getting your hand broken, that's kind of incentive to stop worrying about the cameras and stop screwin around.

J-MAN_Begins
09-01-2005, 10:02 AM
did you ever break your hand during a fight. i box and i just sprain my wrist during a 4 rounder and i was in horrible pain every time i through my left hand. he broke it!!!!!!!!!!!

Cubs Fan
09-01-2005, 10:34 AM
I dont think any one is saying it doesnt hurt. My point is that before he broke it he should have been throwing it a lot more.

Off topic a bit, but in the third Gatti vs. Ward fight, Gatti broke his right hand early in the fight and after a couple of rounds he started throwing it again. I know its different cause Gatti had boxing gloves, but it was a fight that went the distance.

J-MAN_Begins
09-01-2005, 01:48 PM
yeah many fighter break their hands during fights. true champs finish. thats where i am getting at. he does deserve respect for finishing with a broken hand.

You fail to realize in order to throw a power punch you need to set your feet and plant them, if melvin did that, the other guy would have tied him up.

Cubs Fan
09-01-2005, 03:02 PM

after the second round he did have the other guy's number and he was ready to go. melvin still had his legs and 1 hand. later in the fight thats when he shold have capitalized.

Knee. Martial arts. Kept going and won...Didn't do any kicks obviously but I won. Here he has a broken hand. That's three limbs left as opposed to two if it's a leg problem where you can't support yourself nore can you use it to attack. It's painful as all hell yes(especially the knee...oh GOD especially the knee.:( ) but it can be done. When something like that happens you tell yourself "okay, calm down, it's nothing. Work through it. You were just too careless."...Well that's what I told myself anyway when I landed wrong but getting off subject here. The fact of the matter is I'm watching this fight here and I see so many openings. His defense is tight as hell but then I look at his opponent I'm like "He could have caught him there. Could have caught him there. Could have caught him there." every time this guy throws a fake or a setup combo and doesn't go through.

I'm not ragging on the guy, hell, kudos to him for even continuing the fight with a broken hand. I'm just saying that it was very possible for someone as skilled as him to win...Quick little bugger, that bloke.

He lost because although he was able to get free from the other guy he spent most of the time on his back and was not controlling the fight well enough.

That new guy needs to go. I completely agree with Jorge that he just doesn't belong....he's WAY too arrogant for never showing anyone his skills.

The guy last night with the torn shoulder was a pussy....all he did was keep complaining about how bad his shoulder hurt, and how he would "try"...you could tell he was scared and knew he was in WAY over his head. Matt Hughes was right when he said he tapped out to a move that could've been easily avoided.

newmexneon
09-08-2005, 02:42 PM
At least he had the balls to step in the ring with a 6'8" 270 pound fighter and still put up a good fight. He fought with everything he had and came up short, and the way his muscle tore and fell down into his bicep was sick, I don't know if you have ever tore a muscle but it hurts like hell, way more than breaking a bone.

Yep, last nights fight pretty much went how I expected it to. It was a bad idea for marcus to think he was hot stuff and pick one of the best fighters on the other team especially when he had minimal wrestling experience. newmexneon
09-20-2005, 12:36 PM
I don't think the fight was that bad. Rashad was doing a lot more attacking in the clinch than Tom was and It was clear that Tom wasn't in the fight. I am glad that hughes has lost another member because I hate Matt. All I know is if Rashad tries to fight the next guy like he did Tom, he is going to get his ass knocked out. If Tom had been a little more aggresive and taken a few more chances he would have easily knocked Rashad out, especially those last thirty seconds after he hit Rashad with that big elbow.

Exactly the way I feel. If Jorge was at full health, I'm sure this fight would have been cake for him. Guy looked more distracted with his knee than anything else. Wasn't dodging blows or anything. Just stood there throwin em.

Awesome fight, I was waiting to see a good fight on this season, The first season had a lot of good ones and this season was starting get boring but I am pleased for now. I think Jorge lost because he was outclassed, they said he had come up from 155 to fight on this show and I think that is what hurt his striking, it seemed like he ran out of gas in the end of the 2nd and 3rd round, although he did make a good effort to try and come back at the very end.

Good fight tonight. The smaller guy did an awesome kick

Cubs Fan
10-04-2005, 08:10 AM
The best part about that fight was that kick. I have never actually seen a spin kick(dont know what its called) work. I didnt even watch most of the fight. I wanted the other guy to win, but from what I saw he didnt do a lot.

What are those thing they wear around their necks?

Savage
10-04-2005, 09:08 AM
Crrrazy good fight last night. Rarely see a spinning anything connect but that hook kick was...wow. And the roundhouse the tall guy gave to his head that knocked him down was sweet too. This fight was just...off the wall. Best fight so far. Easily.

And those combos were crazy good. Finally, someone who remembers that there are KICKS in the martial arts. They're your longest reach. You'd think that'd be the first thing they go for. But hey, maybe they're not that fast in that department. To me the punches are riskier though. When doing one properly, you kind of lean in and if you miss, and sometimes even when you connect, you better be able to counter quick 'cause your face is wide open.

Cubs Fan

Why dont body punches work as well in the UFC as they do in Boxing? It seems like when the fighters are on the ground one of them is always hitting the others body, but it doesnt seem to do much. But in Boxing body punches seem to usually have a long lasting effect on the boxer. There must be something I'm not thinking of. Can anyone explain this to me?

newmexneon
10-04-2005, 01:16 PM
When you're on the ground you don't have the leverage to throw really hard punches so when they are punching to the body on the ground it is mainly to score points and distract the other fighter. In the last UFC event Nate Quarry knocked a guy out with a punch to the body while they were standing. He hit him right in the gut and the other guy just slumped over and the fight was over.

Once again Rashad proves himself, and another one of Matt's heavyweights gets cold feet. Maybe Matt is putting to much pressure on his fighter's. They seem to be more worried about not losing and avoiding confrontation rather than doing anything they can to win and being more aggresive. Mike seemed like he was trying way to hard to not get knocked out rather than going in and trading punches.

I agree, usually it's a guy getting submitted or if they do throw blows it's no more than several before a guy is dropped then he get pummled. Once that happens the ref steps in before the other guy beats the guy into a coma.

Most fights that I have seen are over in the first round or early in the second. Their still a lot of fun to watch. But I will never order a UFC ppv, because chances are most of the fights will be over quick.

Well I have seen just as many that go the distance. I would rather pay for a good UFC match than a good heavyweight boxing match these days.

You must have seen more UFC fights then I have. Heavyweight fights can be kind of boring. I know there has been a lot of good heavyweight fights but, sometimes you get the two huge guys that have to rest on each other every 10 seconds. It depends on who is boxing for me. The only heavyweight that I would pay to watch fight right now is Vitali Klitschko.

newmexneon
10-24-2005, 11:48 AM
The last UFC event had the Heavyweight champ defending his title, Arlovski landed one punch and knocked Buentello out 15 seconds into the first round. But you don't just pay for one fight, there are usually 7 or 8 fights on the card and there will be at least one really good fight and that is why I always get the UFC ppv's.

I know that there is a lot of fights on the ppv things. I guess I'm just not a big enough UFC fan to order a ppv, and I am also kind of cheap. Do you know if Forest Griffon won his last ppv fight?

Yeah he did knock out Lawler. Great fight tonight, Luke fought Sam and knocked him completley out with a knee in the second round. I think this was the first real knock out of this season. They brought Marcus Davis from the welterweights as an alternate for Jason because of his cuts, so it is either between Joe and Jason or Joe and Marcus.

I just watched last Monday's episode with Luke VS Sammy and I was floored by the fight. For awhile I thought Luke was in trouble, but he managed to take everything Sammy threw at him (no pun intended). When Sammy went for that body stomp and Luke caught him I was glad because to my knowledge body stomps like that aren't allowed in UFC....it's almost like Sammy was just out to show off.

When Sammy caught Luke with that right, and Luke went down I thought "oh ****", but man Luke NAILED him with his right and as soon as Sammy staggered I knew he was done for. Luke hitting him right in the temple with that knee was brutal...he knocked Sammy COLD.

Probably the best fight so far, both guys were great but Luke is my pick to win. He's an inspiration to nerds everywhere.

Body stomps and Hammer kicks are legal as long as they are to the body.

Last nights fight was pretty good, Rashad won again and had a tough time with Keith. I was surprised with how well Rashad took those heavy right hands from Keith. I thought for sure that Keith was gonna be able to put Rashad away in the second round when he repeatedly landed punches on Rashad even causing Rashad to lose his footing at one point, but Rashad recovered quickly and was able to take it to a decision. I think if Keith had been a little more aggresive after he landed his punches and tried to finish Rashad he would have won.

So anyone else think that the decisions in the first 2 matches of the Ultimate Finale were complete bulls**t? I'm sorry but Luke CLEARLY won against Joe, and Brad rocked Rashad the last 2 rounds despite being knocked down by Rashad. The crowd was REALLY behind Luke, and I'm surprised Joe didn't get booed out of the building. He put up a good fight, and I like him, but Luke took everything he had and still came out swinging.

Diego VS Nick was good....man I wanted Diego to knock him out, I can't stand Nick Diaz, all he does is whine about how much money he makes and how Diego makes more. I also thought it was funny when Joe Rogan cut off Diego right in the middle of that "commercial" he was trying to do after the fight.

I thought Joe won the fight. I found myself pulling for Luke during the fight. I dont really know in the second fight. It seemed to me that they were both hurt a couple of times. I will have to watch them again. I'm very happy Diego won, and it pissed me off at the end when Diaz said something about Diego not deserving it or something like that. I dont know what the deal was with the "commercial", last time they had all the ultimate fighters in the card every guy thanked their sponsers.

I doubt we'll see all of the people from the show fight, at least not right now. A lot of those guys need to go back and train before they can even think about competing in the UFC.

I'd kill to be able to go see that PPV in Vegas on the 19th.

He has great hands for a wrestler and I think he has a chance to become a star in the UFC. He's an ok fighter but when he was showboating I became annoyed with him. Any guy that can win 4 fights in a row deserves some credit so I respect him for that, but personality wise he's just not my cup of tea.

Well they announced the Coaches for Season three at UFC 56 and they will be Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz, who hate eachothers guts so you can expect a ton of drama on the next Season.

Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes both won their Title defenses.

Matt beat Joe Riggs by Kimura in the first round.

Rich Franklin knocked out Nate Quarry in the first round and it was a brutal knock out. Rich landed two good punches on Nate which knocked him to the ground and left him stunned. Quarry was able to get back up and Rich came in and landed another real big right hand which knocked Quarry completely unconcsious and clearly broke his nose. Quarry's muscles locked up and everything when he got knocked out, it was pretty sweet.

0neDisturbedSOB
11-21-2005, 05:49 PM
Yeah, I can't believe Quarry actually thought he could beat Franklin. After KO'ing Shamrock Franklin has more than proven himself in the UFC.

I bet Riggs was PISSED with himself that he could drop the 2.5lbs needed to keep that fight as a title match, guess it wouldn't have mattered either way.

Hughes and Franklin are among my favs....Hughes is just a f**king animal, and Franklin is a tough bastard.

Can't wait for TUF 3. I thought the Ortiz/Shamrock fight was bulls**t, and I can't wait to see how they interact together. I also think Ortiz has beef with Dana White too.

I think I went to Highschool with Ortiz, he's older than me but we both went to high school in Huntington Beach, Ca.

Hey, they're 1-1 right now so they need to fight again. And I wouldn't count Couture out, the guy is beast and he beat Liddell once, although Lidell is one scary mother. I think it will be a good fight, but I hope Couture wins. He is the wrestling coach for Centenial high school in Gresham, Oregon which is real close to where I live.
