I'm talking about how they were received overall. Most critics and/or fans bashed every single one of the movies I listed. On that note, I'd like to add "Punisher"-the 2004 one, mind you.

I know it's the only title Adam Hughes faithfully collects. But "Hellboy" isn't as well known to the public as DC and Marvel characters. At least, not before the film came out.
Chris Wallace
04-03-2005, 06:48 PM
That doesn't matter. I'm talking about how the film was received, overall, by those who saw it. By that reasoning you could count "Sin City" as unpopular since it's based on a comic that's not very well known. But that's not what I'm talking about.

I loved Daredevil. (I loved the DC even more, but most people seem to like it, or at least like it better than the theatrical cut, so I wouldn't call it unpopular.)
And Batman Forever is actually my favorite of the four Batman films. I'm not saying it's perfect, or even all that great, and it has huge flaws. But of the four, I like it the most.

Batman Forever is actually my favorite of the four Batman films. I'm not saying it's perfect, or even all that great, and it has huge flaws. But of the four, I like it the most.I've always argued that while the first was the most pure (stayed truest to the comics' dark vision-and it wasn't perfect) the third was the most fun.

I can now add FF.

Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Punisher, Rocketeer, Superman III, Elektra
Captain America & Punisher (Dolph Lungren)-Hey, I didn't have cable when I watched them.
Forgot to add The Phantom and The Shadow.
I enjoyed Captain America, the nineties film version. Sure, it had it's weaknesses, but it spoke to the geek within me. Cap has always been one of my favorites. I liked the creepy Red Skull and the origin story too. The guy who played Cap/Steve Rogers was decent and the suit, though a body condom, worked fairly well. I would love to get it on dvd someday. Oh, and I love The Shadow starring Alec Baldwin. Great flick. Very atmospheric and visually stunning. Baldwin did a fine job. Also liked The Phantom with Billy Zane. Felt like I was reading the comic again.
Punisher 04

Of course the Punisher
Batman Forever
Ghost World
Fantastic Four

The Shadow. I missed it in the theaters, but I've since seen it. It was enjoyable.

American Splendor is the best comic book adaptation next to A History of Violence but both got Oscar noms as did Ghost World, so I don't think you can say they weren't popular.
I was under the impression that Hellboy didn't really catch on untill it got to DVD
The Phantom
Tank Girl
The Rocketeer
Sabretooth
05-27-2006, 10:53 PM
I've enjoyed all of the Marvel movies (even Elektra,Hulk, and The Punisher) and obviously some more than others. But usually I hear people saying ''Oh man this movie sucks balls, the worst thing I've ever seen'' but when I see it and expect it to be terrible,I actually enjoy it.

Batman Forever
Ghost World
Fantastic Four
All those movies are popular. Batman Forever was the second biggest movie WORLDWIDE in 1995. Fantastic Four was a big hit. And Ghost World is a big cult favourite, especially with teenage girls.

The Crow is not widely seen, but very popular with those who have seen it. As opposed to something like ID4, which everybody has seen, and is not very popular.

Haven't had the pleasure of seeing it yet. But I love Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen.

He Has Proudly Stood His Ground For 3 Years.
Yes...yes I have. That long time avatar of mine was my guerrilla promotion and support of the film because it just got slammed so hard when it was released. Now it's just been so long, that I figure I'll keep it....or I'm just lazy.
I agree Kevin. Funny, but I've noticed as time wears on, it seems to be gaining a more favorable following...particularly compared to what Marvel has been delivering over the past two years.

What's funny to me is that its boards remained active despite its relatively poor box office. They took down the "Elektra" boards lightning fast.
Although I haven't seen it gaining any following.

Likewise, "Batman Forever" & "FF" were also widely seen, but by & large not well received. So I would consider them unpopular.

i think it was turtles in time
I don't think so; I had the VHS & I don't remember such a subtitle. I do, however, recall that being the name of a videogame in which the Shredder sent the Turtles through various time eras, such as the Stone Age & the pirate days, before finally returning to the present to confront him in "Supershredder" form.
I was into the Turtles for a while.

So how do you feel about some of the more popular ones?
The Hulk more than anything... I loved that movie... I kept feeling like on one else "got it" when I heard bashing or reviews...
Catwoman. I don't know why. Even though the plot and much of the dialogue was abhorable (and it was miles from the comics), the action seemed... good to me. And Bratt was, I dunno... cool... and Halle actually looked good, and I don't usually find her as attractive as people seem to rate her.
As for popular movies:
X-Men Franchise-- I hate these movies. They are so Wolverine-centric it's sickening, it's as if none of the other X-Men even exist. They should call these movies "Wolverine." Or at most "Wolverine and the X-Men." But calling them the X-Men and overshadowing all members with a character that doesn't even look think or act like Wolverine anymore is retarted.
Spider-Man Franchise-- I love it because it sticks with the character so close you feel for peter... it showed me why everyone likes Spidey in the first place, cuz I never cared much about him. The only mistake they ever made was casting Mcguire instead of Topher Grace... and then they put him in 3 as Spidey's dark reflection. My hat goes off to them...
Batman Begins -- Excellent execution. Some ideas were doubtable (Dawes' importance/casting, Bruce's personality) but the execution was awesome. It strayed from the comics in as many ways as Catwoman, but it did it so well, people didn't notice.

P.S. Batman Forever is bad but entertaining and a better made film than X3 or Fantastic Four I might add, two movies that once their "newness" wears off in the next 5 years will be looked upon as "Batman Forevers" in my opininon.
