A few points to make:

1. Halle deserved the Oscar and by no means should she have to give it back over one film.
2. The reason that Theron isn't being criticised as much is because the film Orange County cancels out Aeon Flux.
3. Why do people only mention Catwoman. Some of her other films like Monster's Ball, X-men 1 and 2, Robots, Gothika all made large profits.
4. In her most recent flick "their eyes were watching god" Halle received critical praise and got nominated for a golden globe.

In conclusion just forget about catwoman!!!!!!!!!

She has the absolute right to do whatever she pleases (and I applaud her courage to take on this responsibility), but it doesn't mean such a public decision will be advantageous for her career. It will only ruin it further.
So no, this kind of "controversy" will not benefit Halle. She should have just done it, showed it, proved it and let us wonder who is the baby dad-da. That would have put the media and tabloids on their ears. ;)

I don't believe for one moment that any controversy will benefit Halle, who as you rightly stated has been ranted at far more than other actresses for far less, however, my point is that how she goes about her life is no one's business. No one should have the right to tell her she's going about her life the "wrong way".

It appears to me that Halle has reached that pinnacle point in her life where she cares less for the opinions of others and what/who will benefit her career and more about what/who will make her happy. And for that I applaud her. Standing O applaud her! :D

That's all. ;)

halle got more crap then charlize bc she also had gothica, which sucked and flopped. she had 2 flops in a row, charlize has one has one flop (and the reviews were better for aeon then catwoman)

Gothika didnt flop! It made alot of money for its time period of the year...

Gothika had nothing to do with it...

Catwoman flopped because it was doomed to do so from the start by fans and critics. It was doomed because people didn't like Halle Berry's casting (aside from Eartha Kitt, there were more white actresses to play Catwoman).

When the first pics came out of Halle in costume, it was universally
HATED. Let's not forget the director, Pitof...? A music video director who had no experience in directing movies.

Agreed.

In addition to the predudice against a "black Catwoman" concept, it also failed because the hard-headed studio made great efforts to distance that version of the character from anything remotely related to Batman. The story didn't even take place in Gotham, and unlike Selina Kyle, Patience had real super-kitty powuhz. And of course, you have Sharon Stone as your opposite...ugh...Hence CINO was born.

I love Halle...but she made a grave mistake in doing that project--and she nearly torpedoed her career over it. To this day I don't know what possessed her to do that film. i know there aren't as many opportunities for Black Actresses as their peers in Hollywood, but she should've taken a cue from Ashley Judd who dumped the project.

We all know why she did it....

Oh, and I doubt someone could ruin their career like that. We know her acting ability. She would always grab a new film. It might be awhile till she gets one as big, but she will always have offers coming in...

You're talking about the $15M? She got that much for X2 (and will get a little more for X3). I don't think money was the biggest driving force though, as much as she wanted to launch a successful franchise all her own. She wasn't exactly getting any "love" from the X-franchise, so she struck out on her own somewhere else.

Interestingly enough, James Marsden did the exact same thing. In other words, both of the two top-tier X-Men that were treated the worst by this franchise went to WB to start over. Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. :o

Yeah I noticed that Halle has adopted a "screw 'em" attitude too lately. In several recent interviews she's stated that she doesn't read the forums or bashing about her anymore. A friend of hers mentioned that once she was so insulted and hurt by what some comic fans wrote about her that she actually started crying while reading the internet.

When I read that I think that's when I actually started to fall sorry for Halle. I guess I didn't realize just how much fire she really draws since she won that award. And when she accepted her Razzie I loved her even more...

Granted, I was already proud of her accomplishments but I was never pleased with her portrayal of Storm. But even I couldn't understand some of the unmitigated hate some of these people have for her. If we were to poll it up, I think she'd come out on top as the most ridiculed actress in Hollywood's comic filmdom.

I think some of this hate can be pointed back to when Halle won the Oscar, when some felt that Nicole Kidman should have won that year.

Anyways, while Halle's not my favorite actress, she's far from being a terrible actress.

I've always been a Halle fan. I will state that I hated Storm in X1/X2, but for a number of reasons, least of which was the actress playing her--more the lines, scenes, etc...but I digress.

I LOVED that she accepted her Razzie. Class and humor in one beautiful package! ;)

kinda off topic here! i said this to my co-workers, that year 2 prominent black actors were up for oscars. people were making a big stink about how black actors never win the "best actor/actress" awards! the oscars, i feel, were under some pressure, do we give it to the black actors to shut everyone up or dont and take more flak from people in the black community. whether or not who anyone says should have won that year, there was way more there than halle and denzel i believe! i liked both movies they were in.

and you know what, halle is not slowing down in the business. let halle do halle and everyone else can either "hate it or love it". its NOT that serious how some people just went to calling her all kinds of names just because she played storm. jesus. but i guess people say its the internet they can say whatever they want lol.

p.s. maybe if halle's parents were both black she would have made a better storm to some people.

Simon Kinberg talked a little about storm in his Q&A :

i'm really excited to see storm (halle's) increased presence in X3, i know halle was asking that Storm fly, but besides displays of power will storm be more emotionally present in this movie and actually gain a personality??

One of the biggest challenges Zak and I gave ourselves was making Storm as strong and dynamic as she is in the comic. I do think she’s more emotionally complex, more politically charged, and definitely more physically active in X3 than the previous films. Halle came back to play the part because we were all committed to crafting a real, three-dimensional character.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. It's going to backfire on her; the news buzz won't do for her what it does for her peers. She has the absolute right to do whatever she pleases (and I applaud her courage to take on this responsibility), but it doesn't mean such a public decision will be advantageous for her career. It will only ruin it further.

I mean, Catwoman bombed and was on every media outlet as the biggest flop of the century. She even got a Razzie for it. Oscar-Winner Charlize Theron does the critical failure Aeon Flux which makes 4 times less than Halle's failure and the media quickly sweeps it under the rug without a mention. Yet, Charlize has not been nominated for her Razzie...and fanboys are not demanding she give her Oscar back.

So no, this kind of "controversy" will not benefit Halle. She should have just done it, showed it, proved it and let us wonder who is the baby dad-da. That would have put the media and tabloids on their ears. ;)

You're a Halle-hater. We get it. It takes limited intelligence to spew forth the assanine comments you keep coming up with. "She's fat, diseased, whore...whatever..." Tell ya what, why don't you post when you have something relatively intellectual to add to the thread, rather than lame, obviously envy driven insults. Let's not be foolish my dear. You can't defy sheer mathematics.

In order for Aeon Flux to make a killing on DVD sales, people--who've seen it in theatres--will have to be impressed enough to buy it. Judging by the dismal box office numbers, it's clear that a very, very, very, very small percentage of people will even look for it on DVD, let alone buy it.

Ive seen the film. Im pissed, because I grew up on 3 things, Xmen, Power Rangers, and Aeon Flux. She killed that film. No one should have made a film like that, and making a film like that be PG13 was wrong.

I laugh at this, but you said nothing to the guy who said Halle is worse. Theoron has had 2 good films, IMO. Cider House Rules (which was because of Toby McGuire) and Monster. Ill admit, Monster was amazing, but Halle has shown me so much more. Alot of actresses are better. Another reason for my hate is because when Catwoman came out, Theoron dissed Halle left and right for it, because "An Oscar winner shouldnt play roles like that...". Then what does she do? Storm & Black Panther Wedding Details...look like Marvel is courting mass media attension: http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/Panther/wedding/press.htm

The event proper kicks off in the main series in the "Bride of the Panther" series beginning in March.
"Bride of the Panther" will tell the real-time, present day story of Storm and Panther's coming wedding, while the Storm limited series will feature the flashback to the couple's past. This story, Alonso said, has its roots in Marvel Team-Up #100, which was written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne, which showed that the two characters had a mutual past.
As Alonso explained, the Storm limited series will expand upon that meeting and their history, showing how an African prince met a beggar girl who was in fact a mutant. The editor further said that readers will understand, at the completion of the mini-series, how the two were meant to be and destined to be together.
Marvel’s David Gabriel revealed that the Uncanny X-Men Annual #1 will detail the final preparations for the wedding.
Media coverage of the coming nuptials is geared to be heavy, with an interview planned on the Steve Harvey radio show, and interviews slated to appear in the larger black-targeted publications as the storyline gets closer.
Taking the floor, Reginald Hudlin said that the upcoming wedding is a dream come true for him to write, adding that when it comes to the comic, the BET television network will be covering it (Hudlin is the network’s President of Programming).
Storm writer Eric Jerome Dickey said that he's aiming to respect the continuity as established by both Claremont and Christopher Priest.
Asked that given his roots are in film if he was viewing the project from a cinematic stance, and if he’s thinking of the storyline as a possible film, Hudlin said that while he does think of the Black Panther as a movie property, he's approaching the story as a comic. The writer joked that his film and television work was done simply to get him enough credentials so that he could make it as a comic book writer, adding that if a Black Panther movie never gets made, the comics he's worked on still exist. "I'm writing books for the fan in me," Hudlin said. "And it's great when I get letters form fans all over the world who are excited about the same things I'm excited about."
When asked by a retailer looking for help in figuring out his order, Dickey said that his novels currently see about 150,00 copies, with Black Panther, Hudlin noted, joking, much less than that.
Gabriel added that retailers should also consider that Storm does appear in this summer’s X3, which will likely affect the character's popularity in the mass media.
Hudlin noted that readers will see the entire Marvel Universe show up for the wedding.
They are also courting real life fashion designers to design her wedding dress

The writer joked that his film and television work was done simply to get him enough credentials so that he could make it as a comic book writer, adding that if a Black Panther movie never gets made, the comics he's worked on still exist. storm is a good character. halle just sucks. tell me one line she delivered well in x1 or x2. none. everytime she spoke it's like the rest of the cast said 'how the hell did she win an oscar'. that's why singer kept her part small and that's why since she is a main character in 3 she will be the weakest link in the film.

singer cast Halle, if he didn't think she could act he wouldn't have hired her, her part was small because he didn't like the character and therefore gave her nothing to do. Halle's a great actress and she did well with what she was given, which was basically nothing.

Well for the sake of x3 I hope you're right and I am wrong - she may have been a studio choice and not a director one. she just always seemed lost in the movies.

From the Simon Kinberg Q & A on the xverse boards:

That said, what do you think of Halle Berry's performance this time under the new direction and guidance of Zak, Brett and yourself? Would you say that Storm's role/involvement in this film was written as a polar opposite to Jean's alleged "in-your-face" portrayal?

I’m not sure about Storm’s performance vs. Jean. They are very different characters and very different actresses. Halle’s performance is extremely powerful in this film. Storm has a real point-of-view, and she’s far stronger than we’ve seen in the first two movies.

I really wanted to see that orgin sequence for Storm, when she was in her African village, and she made it hail and all the kids around her were crying and screaming from getting hit, lol. Would've been nice, if shot. :p

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we get some backstory on Storm. Either through flashback, or her mentioning her past, before the X-Men.

I guess the major reasons I am somewhat concerned about this whole pregnancy deal is the fact that Halle is so high-risk; she hits the big 4-0 this summer. In addition, she's diabetic. Why doesn't she just adopt?

Coupled with the way she's going about it and...well, it just doesn't sit well with me. I'd hate for this to backfire on her in one way or another.

You know, Im not really the best person to ask about this (being an 18 year old guy) but Im pretty sure that its massivly different from actually having the child. While adopting is great, having someone who you can say is a part of you must be thrilling...

No, not at all. I'm just being realistic. A friend of mine's mother died in childbirth at 44 years of age. Granted, that's a little older than Halle, but the point is that it too was high risk--and she was doing it to "get it done". Not saying it will happen to Halle, but it'd still be a high risk situation. I just wish her the best with whatever she decides to do.

Last time Halle mentioned it was during the 'Catwoman' days I believe. There's so many 'Halle' projects that don't seem to be going anywhere. That's probably because there were too many to begin with, lol. 'The Guide' is not on her slate anymore. I really hope they film 'Nappily' though.

Last year, they said Halle was supposed to play an Egyptian Queen in a film that was supposed to film right about now, directed by Monster's Ball director. No clue what happened to that project.

I actually liked the premise of The Guide what was the story of Nappily?

I really wanted to see her film 'The Guide' as well :( Um...nappily, let me see...

Venus Johnson, tired of waiting for her longtime boyfriend to propose, breaks up with him. But old feelings, and heaps of jealousy, no doubt, arise when he promptly begins dating another woman.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0365545/

To be directed by Patricia Cardoso, who directed 'Real Women Have Curves' which was an awesome film, IMO.

do i need to restate why i'm not jealous of that diseased whore known as halle berry? because of the complete travesty that was catwhore halle berry has ruined the franchise for female superhero flicks. people were scared aeon flux would be another catwhore and so stayed away from it but because aeon flux was an excellent movie i have no doubt it will regain its money through dvd sales.

Theron and Berry are both beautiful and talented women. Catwoman and Aeon where both terrible terrible films.

Let's not be foolish my dear. You can't defy sheer mathematics.

In order for Aeon Flux to make a killing on DVD sales, people--who've seen it in theatres--will have to be impressed enough to buy it. Judging by the dismal box office numbers, it's clear that a very, very, very, very small percentage of people will even look for it on DVD, let alone buy it.

the same was said for punisher among many other movies that performed poorly at the box office.Besides, even if aeon flux doesn't make back its money its still nowhere NEAR the commercial disastor that is catwoman.

Right now, you're trolling, and it's seriously starting to annoy the rest of us. You don't like Halle Berry? That's fine. We get it. So why don't you spend your time talking about the comic character Storm instead? All of the "diseased whore" BS is lame and needs to stop.

everyone's saying this proves ororo and logan are involved but kinberg said it isn't true:

*Considering the popularity of the ROLO shipper/fandom, can you tell us anything about this expanded relationship between Wolverine and Storm? Would you classify it as a "partners-in-crime" type relationship ala "Bonnie & Clyde", a "Mom & Pop" leadership, or something more? There are rumors of "sexual tension" between the two characters.

The rumors of “sexual tension” are greatly exaggerated. Their interaction is definitely expanded in this film, as opposed to the first two movies. But it’s not the central emotional relationship. I would classify it as two leaders facing a war (and facing an old friend).

Storm22
01-31-2006, 06:44 PM
That doesn't prove anything. People are interpreting it as "involvement" but it could be Wolverine telling Storm to get a grip, it could be them in an argument and Wolverine getting aggressive etc. I'd say there may be some degree of sexual tension but I doubt we'll see a full on sex scene or corny love scenes or anything. Kinberg didn't really deny sexual tension as such, he just said the sexual tension rumours are greatly exaggerated.

Specter313
01-31-2006, 06:44 PM
Unless there's a pic of them shoving their tongues down each other's throats, there's no proof that they have that kind of relationship in the film. If Kinberg says that there is no relationship like that between the two of them, then that's what you should listen to. Not some review by someone with a shady past.

Agreed! I'm more inclined to believe Kinberg, who actually wrote the film, then make assumptions based on a pic. I'm actually chatting with you know who now on xverse who claims there are loads of other scenes like this in the movie and more intense than this too. I'm calling her bluff and have asked her a few detailed questions about these scenes she claims to have seen. I just want to see what her answers, if any, are like. She claims Kinberg is lying too and provided this pic as "proof" against those who "are trying to debunk the Wolverine, Storm relationship"

X3 Screenwriters Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn have shed more light on what we can expect from Halle Berry in May:

QUESTION: Simon, what can you say about Halle Berry's performance?

SIMON KINBERG: I’m really proud of Halle’s performance. We wanted to give her more to play in this film, because we’re huge fans of Storm, and huge fans of Halle (especially her performance in “Monster’s Ball” and “Jungle Fever”). Halle really became Storm in this film – stronger, more militant and more emotional than the previous movies. I think she’s more comfortable and confident in the role this time. Plus, she kicks serious amounts of ass. And did I mention she can fly?

Halle’s performance is extremely powerful in this film. Storm has a real point-of-view, and she’s far stronger than we’ve seen in the first two movies."

LIGHTNING STRIKEZ: "Zak, can you tell us what can we expect from Storm in X3? What will make her role in this storyline different from the prior films?"

ZAK PENN: "Expect her to be more actively involved in whatever scene she appears in. Both emotionally and in terms of her powers."

Storm kicking serious amounts of ass? I like the sound of that.:up:

So either -----

a. there's no sexual tension because they don't dance around each other and it's a straight out full blown affair.

b. there's no romantic or sexual relationship between them at all.

If it's (a) then there's no buildup to how or why they're involved, which would be poor storytelling.

If it's (b) then that's one thing that's been drastically changed since the early draft. But haven't there been articles approved by Fox that allude to the relationship?

The black streaks make it look more like real hair. Her hair looks grey at times but I suppose thats good compared to yellow. When I thought black streaks I thought they would clash with the white but they blend together nicely.

The trouble with white hair is it changes slightly depending on its surroundings. Her hair looks slightly darker indoors whereas outside it looks whiter. I just hoped they could have had it this colour and longer. I like the short hair but I just like longer hair on Storm more.

They give the pics to her, providing she puts her own "Copyright 20th Century FOX" -watermark on the pics (legal issues). She can feel high and mighty and distribute the pictures at will, and they get valuable information about how the fancommunity reacts to the "non-official pictures"... Hmmm...

The problem I have with that scenario is that, if they wanted to do something like that, why would they give them to a loose cannon psycho like her, when they've been made very clear on her past with the many contacts by the people who she has harrassed, and take a chance on her sending a somewhat negative buzz to go along with the pics? Why not just give them straight to someone like those at Xverse and Xmenfilms? Or heck, just Superherohype?

LOL.

Many people haven't actually even seen all the photos, besides SHH! X3 people/ Xverse people. If this was a big ploy (in addition to the Ricky scandal) then they're just spreading bad vibes. Like Fox's publicist even told me. I requested some exclusive images, and she said that Fox is currently going to target the general high traffic sites, because basically people who visit XVerse or XMF are pretty much guaranteed to see the film. She told me Yahoo! and IGN Filmforce were getting some artwork soon. If I get anything directly from them, it'll probably be closer to the films release, when they've reached the higher priority spots (marketing in terms of reaching other potential X3 watchers).

Um, but Storm. Yes....:D

My favorite part about the watermarks is when she tells people, "remember to credit the site where you got them. These are my pics." Um, no.

There is no reason for Fox to sue or take legal action. Right now, every picture has been received warmly. All it's done is get more people hyped up. Film is a visual medium, seeing is believing. I don't care how much the stills might confirm the early script review. Every still gets me more excited about the film itself, particularly those involving Famke. Since this is a Halle thread, let me just say that every picture of Halle, combined with the words of Kinberg/Penn, make me so happy that she didn't just sit there and say "Pay me lots of money to stand in the background." I'm excited for X3's Storm. She is looking fierce and in control, not the wimp we've come to loathe in the first two films.

I read some comics and am familiar with the cartoon, but my love of X-Men is based on the films. The majority of the people paying to see X3 are fans of X1 and X2 without having any prior knowledge of the books. I think we'll be satisfied and then some.

Ok this must be from the same scene in the trailer where Storm turns around and Logan has a strange look on his face. Either they're going to totally make out with each other, or Logan is going to shake some sense into Storm.
I think they are going to kiss. The look in Storm's eyes are too intense. If she was being physically abused I don't think she'd be looking all doughy eyed lol.

Halle looks younger than Angelina Jolie and Angie is 30 that is really amazing that she can look like she is in her mid 20s and she will be 40 this year.

lets all be happy the missladyvenus lettering is small this time...yay
Great pic!!! Thats another time Storm helping Wolverine, lol!
It looks as if there is many scenes that they have done, showing the bond between them both, cause i heard somewhere that Storm feels more for Wolverine than he does for her. What is his problem? Just look at her!!

Hard to believe ain't it? She is aging sloooowly. LOL

And that trench coat she's sporting is sharp. I don't even like that color, yet she makes it look good with those pumps. Halle doesn't dissapoint in the fashion department. :O

I think if there was a full-blown romance between Storm and Wolverine, then Gina would have released a more revealing pic but that's just what I think..

Please continue..
