REVOLVER
The movie is set to be released Autumn 2005, a exact date is not know yet. It s going to ****ing OWN. The director is Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch)
Plot:
Jake Green is a hotshot gambler, long on audacity and short on common sense. He's rarely allowed to play in any casino because he is a winner. Jake has taken in so much money over the years, he is the only client of his accountant and older brother Billy. One night, Jake, Billy and their other brother Joe are invited to sit in on a private game, where Jake is expected to lose to Dorothy Macha, a crime boss and local casino owner who can't play for squat, but always wins because people are too scared to beat him. Jake isn't afraid of Macha, and not only beats Dorothy in a quick game of chance, but takes every possible opportunity to insult the man. Jake and his brothers leave the game, and Macha puts out the order for a hit on Jake, who ends up working for and being protected by a pair of brothers, Avi and Zack, who are out to take Macha down.

Liotta Pwned!
You know, I've heard great things about Lock Stock as well as Snatch, still I've yet to see either. One of these days I think I'll just get off my butt and head to Blockbuster.

I guess this will be the true test to see if Madonna is really a succubus.
Shot in secrecy over ten weeks on the Isle Of Man, the filmed had wrapped just two hours before the director phoned Empire to give us the lowdown. 'It was a long one to write,' he says. 'Snatch and Lock, Stock took three months, but this one took about a year and a half.' And? What's it about? 'Let's just say it's about a gambling man who realises he's in for more than he thought.'
Like Ritchie's previous films, the script changed constantly throughout the writing process and then, just for laughs, metamorphosed completely a week before filming. 'It's a funny thing, writing. Particulary a script like this. Don't ask me what sort of genre it is because I'm left scratching my head. It was an endless process of tweaks, then for some reason it all just solidified'
Not only does the film put Ritchie's surreal humour on a back-burner ('It's a lot more serious than my other movies'), there's also no truth in the rumours that Mrs Ritchie, aka Madonna, has a cameo.
'No, she's not in it,' he insists. So the stories are made up? 'Completely made up.' He laughs. 'That's rare, isn't it?'

I actually think it's a good thing they cut Madonna's scene, not to offend Madonna, but I think she should stay out of her hubby's job. That would be like a boyfriend butting their nose in and trying to do my job when I can do it suffieciently well.

I'm not a Guy Ritchie fan, but that trailer looks pretty sweet.
I'm glad to see he's not doing the 'comedy' thing from Barrels and Snatch again. I don't think I would've wanted to see yet another repeat of Barrels.
Don't you agree that from what we get to see in the trailer, it FEELS like a Guy Ritchie film, but sorta LOOKS like a David Fincher film ?

Damn this movie is getting bad reviews !
Here's what JoBlo festivalee Scott Weinberg had to say about it on http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=8586 :
"...
But even worse than TIDELAND is the astonishingly indulgent and aggressively non-sensical REVOLVER, which comes from the formerly-reliable and now-desperate Guy Ritchie. This one stars Jason Statham and Ray Liotta as mega-rich con-artist nemeses who try to outwit each other by using a screenplay that's entirely witless. Virtually endless and almost migraine-inducing, REVOLVER lacks everything that made SNATCH and LOCK, STOCK... so damn fun. There's no energy, no excitement, virtually no style, and absolutely no point. And after speaking with numerous moviegoers and film critics, it seems I'm far from the only one who has this particular opinion. A massive chore it was, and one that inspired dozens of walk-outs at the screening I attended."

I rented this flick yesterday.
It's definatelt not in the same league as Lock Stock or Snatch. HOwever i do like the movie . It has some very interesting twist and turns and overall i think it's a far more dramatic mature movie from Guy Ritchie as opposed to the more comedy driven Lock Stock and Snatch.
I always thought that this movie was named after a gun ( in the veign of Ritchie's previous flicks). Not that ir actuallt means Revolving.
Also one question.
Spoiler :
The whole Sam Gold thing. Is it that Jason Statham is Sam Gold , or the three ( Andre Benjamin , that fat dude from Sopranos and Jason Statham) are Sam Gold , or that Sam Gold is really a the enemy within ( as shown by Statham when he wins over his bad inner self and at the same time "releases "the weaker side inner side of Dorothy Macha when Ray Liotta is pointing the gun at Statham and saying "Fear Me ".
Spoiler End :
Overall i'd give it a 6.5/10. An okay flick , but by no means great.

Sam Gold is a symbol for Greed. ''He is behind all the pain there ever was.'' Jake Green defeats him in the elevator, he is now free from Greed. Macha shoots himself in the head because he thinks Green is Gold and that he has been ****ing with him from the start. ''He can't kill a dead man.''

The way I see it, is that Macha thinks that Jake Green is Sam Gold. But Macha doesn't know that Gold actually is greed. He thinks Gold is a powerful crime boss. And he thinks Jake Green is actually Sam Gold. If he shoots himself, Green can't kill him.

Okay , i get it.
So Macha does fear Sam Gold . HE thinks that Sam Gold is a real threat , like so many do. ANd because he knows that he can't defeat Sam Gold and/or fears the whole drug deal result , he shoots himself.
Makes sense .

Okay , i get it.
So Macha does fear Sam Gold . HE thinks that Sam Gold is a real threat , like so many do. ANd because he knows that he can't defeat Sam Gold and/or fears the whole drug deal result , he shoots himself.
Makes sense .
Yep, that's it.

Man , this movie seriously does rock.
I watched it the second time ( thnx again carmine :word: ) and man oh man does it kick ass.
Suddenly all the stuff makes sense ( why that sopranos guy forced Jake to stay in the elevator).
In fact i upgraded it from a 6/10 to a 8.5/10

Yes, this really is a movie that you can't judge after you've seen it once.. I've seen it 4 times and I rate it 9/10. I'm glad you like it better now.

So, about a year later, here is the trailer for the US release:

Even though I have already seen the movie about 4-5 times, this is a great trailer.

I feel sorry for the fact he can't do anything right anymore. When he tries something new. He gets flamed. When he does something in the vain of his first, popular movies, he gets flamed because ''he can't do anything else'' and because ''Lock Stock is till better''. Just wait and see untill RockNRolla comes out. It's insanely unfair.
This movie was absolutely amazing. Downloaded it a long time ago to watch it, really really great. Entertaining the first go round, takes more viewings to flesh out your views on some of the stranger elements.
I think this movie is beyond brilliant! its so damn cool! I eagerly await the Us DVD release.

I read about the changes that were made for the US cut of the film, I urge anybody who has only seen the US version to watch the UK version. Because they cut some really cool scenes...
...What!? What did they cut?! I've only seen the UK one over my computer, but I planned on getting the US DVD. WtF? First the Descent, now this..

I read that the cut the 3 Eddie story, Sorter's death and the final scene with Macha's suicide (making it the last time Green sees Macha the Fear me scene) they added some things aswell, a few shots that can be seen in the US trailer, Paul and Macha talking about Green in the back of a car an Paul lighting a member of Lord John's gang on fire in a mortuary.
I haven't seen the US cut, but I'm curious about it, I'd like to see it.
Wow. Weird. It's not like they changed stuff up to make more sense, but rather just cut stuff out for ... what reason, again?!

I have no idea... It's weird, I don't know if Ritchie recut it himself or not..
Ugh. Bought it yesterday, watched it today. The film is a shell of it's former greatness. It seems a lot more clear cut and spoon fed, and perhaps worst of all- it now has end credits. Complete with a bunch of doctors explaining the Id and the Ego, Superego, etc, and how they work against one another.
Luckily I've only seen the original UK cut.
More things that suck- the creative subtitles are gone. The added scene in the beginning of Macha and Paul explaining a ton of crap that didn't need explaining. A "Two Years later" that I don't remember being there. if it was, it's still gay. Sordid not dying. The whole ****ing end of the movie being gone. What a mess. I need the original cut on DVD.

Finally saw this.
Judging from the posts here, I would really love to see the UK cut. I watched the US version last weekend, and didn't totally understand the plot. I mean I did, it was just....yeah ok? Still enjoyed it, I loved Macha's line, "Jesus Paul! Why don't you just ****ing rape me?"
^God-like genius right there.
Visually, the film is so slick, so stylish. Every shot looked like it took weeks to plan. That alone makes this film worth at least one watch.
Oh and Sorter, what an awesome hitman he was. His small role made the movie version of 47 look like a child.

He was a great character.
I fear all the changes. the UK cut definitely sounds better (Ive seen the UK one but not the US one). Its a pretty good film but not Ritchies best.
I may watch it tonight since I havent seen it in years
