M:I-3 Plans to Film in China
Production starts in Rome, ends in Shanghai.
July 18, 2005 - Mission: Impossible III is enjoying its share of exotic international locales, as production continues in Rome. The Italian capital is providing several shooting locations for the Tom Cruise spy-actioner, including the Tiber River and the area around St. Peter's Square. Part of the historic Tiber waterway was even closed off to regular traffic last week, as Cruise and director J.J. Abrams worked on a motorboat chase.
Once the Italian shoot is complete, the production will probably head back to California. However, Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117926059?categoryid=19&cs=1&s=h&p=0) has revealed that principal photography on M:I-3 will end with a month of filming in Shanghai, China's bustling cultural and financial center. The crew plan to move production there in November to film the picture's climactic ending scenes. Other work, like plate shots and second-unit filming, could also take place in China. It is thought that the Shanghai authorities have worked hard to accomodate the Mission: Impossible production, even though no Chinese film studios will be involved.
"I simply cannot believe that the Shanghai authorities will not move mountains to make sure that this film happens on their turf," an industry executive in China is quoted as saying.
Mission: Impossible III is scheduled to open in May, 2006.
man, i cant wait for this

Scooper 'peeps81' tells ComingSoon.net that Mission: Impossible 3 director J.J. Abrams and star Tom Cruise filmed the second sequel at the Caserta Royal Palace in Italy. The report contains spoilers on what was filmed:
Ciao Folks! Just got back from Caserta. I had the chance to go inside the royal palace and to see the M:I:III set!
The palace was set up like the Vatican (as we knew it). They also built a 15 meters wall and a special glass fountain (it was big and it looked real)! Then there was an aisle with big carpets and Vatican standards, it was supposed to be a galà in there. There were 100 of extras there, Philip Seymour Hoffman was there and he was very kind with everybody (although he is the main villain). They said Laurence Fishburne was there too, but I didn't see him. In that scene, Maggie Q dropped a cup of champagne on Philip Hoffman, and then Ethan Hunt was supposed to climb the fake wall, to do the classic M:I rope jump, and then he puts a mask on, goes into the aisle and kidnaps the Villain!
There were 4 Lamborghinis, two of them were real and the other 2s were wihout the engine! After the kidnapping, there's a car chase and then a shootout, then they were about to blow the Lamborghini up, and Cruise was supposed to go underground just a second before the explosion. Then Ethan hunt meets his partners and there's the boat Tiber scene. They shot also many scenes at the first floor of the reggia, but I didn't make it. Mr.Cruise arrived every day by helicopter and went back to Rome!.
The official logo of the movie is
"M:I:III"
Every pass on the set included that.
The palace's official website can be found here, but more pictures and information can be found via this link. Paramount Pictures has scheduled a May 5 release date for the film, which also stars Ving Rhames, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Michelle Monaghan.

Following yesterday's report on the Mission: Impossible 3 (aka "M:I:III") filming at the Caserta Royal Palace in Italy, we've received more word on the production. Before we head back across the pond for more from Italy, 'filmfreak11' tells us what is being set up at Paramount Studios for the third installment, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Tom Cruise.
At Paramount Studios in Hollywood, part of the lot is currently being used to build and house sets for "M:I:III". I was on their studio tour serveral days ago and was lucky to see one of their sets being built. I think the tour guide said it's an ancient underground Roman catacombs. Workers were still there plastering and painting the sets. No pictures were allowed of course. But it sort of reminded me of William Stryker's underground lair from "X2: X-Men United". Other soundstages are also being used for the Tom Cruise movie, but we didn't see them. Once the set is ready, it will be sprayed with water to simulate leaky hallways. Also on a side note, Tom Cruise's production office is located in Paramount Studios.
Ciao again! I have some more news and set pics from Caserta Royal palace (LA REGGIA).
I have clearly seen the room where Tom is gonna put the mask on, it's a little room, supposed to be a restroom, there's a table in the middle and a head-statue on it; They said Tom is going to put his hand on a computer, and the fake face will come out! I've also seen Jonathan Rhys Meyers on location. Here you are the pix :
-Tom and his italian interpreter... her pass reads "M:I:III".
-The 15 metres fake wall (Tom is gonna climb it)
-I also added a non-official pic of the Lamborghini that I saw on set: it's a Diablo orange Lamborghini

Just a mention, if people insist on going on about Cruises lifestyle please take it to the Commmunity forum. If you have issues with his acting, those can stay here,, but the general hate just because he has a different opinion than some people is really unfounded and doesnt belong in this thread. Its about the movie itself not just one of the actors in its personal life. Thank You.

Maggie Q Officially Takes "Mission"
Posted: Monday August 1st, 2005 10:22pm
Source: Dark Horizons
Author: Garth Franklin
Maggie Q has begun production in a key role as one of the IMF team members on Paramount's "Mission: Impossible 3." Tom Cruise reprises his role as Special Agent Ethan Hunt in this film, directed by J.J. Abrams and also starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Michelle Monaghan, Keri Russell and Laurence Fishburne. The film is produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.
Maggie's character, Zhen, will be one of the principal IMF team members working alongside the characters played by Cruise, Rhames, and Rhys-Meyers. In regard to working with her co-stars, Maggie says, "The cast and crew are exceptional. Not only are they talented, but they care about what they do and have fun doing it."
"I have always dreamed big and have worked hard to achieve those dreams. I am so excited for this role and this experience. Hong Kong and its film community have been very good to me and have given me the opportunity to get to where I am today. I can't thank JJ enough for believing in me and for offering me this role. It's a dream come true. I hope that now, with this opportunity, it will inspire other actors from Asia to follow their own dreams," she says.
Says Andrew Ooi, President of Echelon Talent Management and Maggie's manager: "Maggie has been training hard for this role. It's a significant and physically demanding role, and her skills are well suited for it. It's a great role for her!"
Having begun her career as a model in Hong Kong, Maggie gained recognition as an actress in films including "Gen-Y Cops" and "Naked Weapon." Upcoming releases for Maggie include "The Counting House," a horror film for Italy's Rai Entertainment; the Hong Kong feature "Dragon Squad," where she plays a sniper; and the German/ Singapore television mini-series "House of Harmony."
Born in Hawaii to an American father and Vietnamese mother, Maggie's face has graced the covers of over 100 magazines throughout Asia, including Time, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Madame Figaro, Marie Claire and Elle. She is currently the spokesperson for LUX Personal Wash Products and SOFINA Facial Skin-Care in China, and has completed successful campaigns for Coca-Cola, Lancel, Shiseido and Suzuki.

I dont think Russells part is very big cause I just read somewhere else that she had a part in another movie that begins filming soon.

Moynahan, could be Cruises love interest? At least we know now that Rhys-Meyers is part of the team, I thought he'd be a villain. I guess that will be Hoffman but what about Fishburne?

We've received even more exclusive pictures from the Caserta Royal Palace set for Paramount's Mission: Impossible 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882), directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Tom Cruise (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10650#). The third installment is due in theaters on May 5th. Click here (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10503) and here (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10488) if you missed our previous reports and pictures from the Italy set. Scooper 'Giarritiello70' writes:
Here is Tom in a light-brown construction suit, he's gonna climb the big wall, I added a pix of the wall by night, but if you really check your previous wall pix, you can see Tom in the lower left part of the photo! Tom was very nice with everybody, he moved through the set by his motorbike, and every time he waved at us. There is also a pix of the Lamborghini (official), on set there were 4, but it took only one take to film (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10650#) the explosion. J.J. Abrams showed the explosion via satellite (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10650#) to Cruise who liked it very much! Before the explosion he's gonna disappear through a hole into the sewers. You have the pix of Tom's helicopter, he used it to get to the Reggia everyday.

And then there's also the animated Over the Hedge, which could be big. You never know with those animated movies...
As long as Ving Rhames does more than piss and moan about his Versace, like in the last one, I'll be happy. I'm ecstatic that JJ Abrahms is directing this, as I've been in love with what he's done with Alias from day one, and makes M:I-3 a logical step. Hopefully this will bring back the team dynamic and have more of a tone like the first one, instead of the second, which was just a total brainless action film. I want some intrigue, betrayl and double-crossing. I want just a little bit of action throughout the duration, and then one crazy-ass sequence at the end that makes the tunnel scene at the end of the first one look like a TV movie!

theres such huge potential. mi2 is a very beloved franchise, itll be big.it should open to50-60 million and total about 200. poseidon is tough call. i see its gross being a combo of troy and day after tomorrow, so 175-225 domestic, 450-550 ww. da vinci code-where does everyone thikn itll be so big? the film released on the third week in may is usually known as the biggest picture of the year. i.e. star wars films, matrix reloaded, shrek 2 and shrek. but this...i wouldnt be surprised if a film like cars moves up to challenge it. x3, meh. itll open to 90 something million over memorial day but itll barely top 200.

Billy Crudup (Big Fish, Almost Famous) has been set for a lead role in Paramount's Mission: Impossible 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) (aka "M:i:III"), which J.J. Abrams began directing in July for a May 5 release.
Variety says Crudup will assume the role after completing a part in the Robert De Niro-directed The Good Shepherd (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=10034) for Universal.
Crudup previously worked with "M:i:III" producers Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner on the Robert Towne-directed Without Limits, a C/W production in which he played track star Steve Prefontaine.
The third installment stars Cruise, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Michelle Monaghan, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Maggie Q and Sasha Alexander

Greg Grunberg Has M:i:III Cameo
Source: TV Guide (http://www.tvguide.com/News/AskAusiello/default.htm?rmDate=09212005)
September 21, 2005
TV (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11287#) Guide reports that Greg Grunberg, who has starred in J.J. Abrams' Felicity (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11287#), Alias (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11287#) and Lost (pilot episode), has reunited with the writer/director/producer again for Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) (aka "M:i:III"):
In fact, Grunberg just spent the last week filming a top-secret cameo in Mission: Impossible 3 (directed by his best bud J.J. Abrams). And as I reported in last week's AA, next month he starts shooting the NBC (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11287#) comedy (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11287#) pilot Grand Union. Someone's busy.
Stay tuned for more on the Tom Cruise sequel as it comes in.

M:i:III Filming in Richmond, VA

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD/MGArticle/RTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031785469214) reports that Paramount Pictures is shooting scenes for Mission: Impossible 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) in Richmond, VA today (Spoilers ahead):
A scene showing a car driving fast under a railway trestle is being shot on Dock Street around 15th Street. Some of the action, including a car swerving around a corner, is being covered from the air by a camera mounted on a helicopter.
According to publicist Amanda Brand, if the crew has the time it also hopes to shoot a scene at Stuart Circle on Monument Avenue as part of the same fast-driving scene.
The newspaper adds that the production will move to Northern Virginia tomorrow to film (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11452#) in Rosslyn and on the 14th Street Bridge. Yesterday's filming was at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
Directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11452#)), the third installment, in theaters May 5, 2006, stars Tom Cruise (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11452#), Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11452#), Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Michelle Monaghan, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Billy Crudup, Maggie Q and Sasha Alexander (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11452#).

Simon Pegg Joins Mission: Impossible 3
Source: The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/)

http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/spmi3.jpg
Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has signed on to join Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882), says The Hollywood Reporter. He will play an ally of Special Agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise).
Directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11514#)), "M:i:III" boasts an ensemble cast that also includes Philip Seymour Hoffman (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11514#), Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Billy Crudup (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11514#), Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell and Maggie Q.
"I've been dying to work with Simon since I saw 'Shaun of the Dead'," said Abrams. "His comedic skill is remarkable; he's able to be hysterically funny while always seeming 100% real, even when he's killing zombies with vinyl records (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11514#)."
The film is produced by Cruise and Paula Wagner through their C/W Productions and executive produced by Stratton Leopold. Paramount will release the third installment on May 5.

Rhys Meyers and Johansson on M:i:III
Source: Edward Douglas
November 18, 2005
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/mi3matchpoint.jpg
ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk to actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Scarlett Johansson, stars of Woody Allen's (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12065#) new thriller (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12065#) Match Point (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=9302), and we wanted to know what they thought about the upcoming "three-quel" Mission: Impossible 3 (http://comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882). After all, Johansson was originally slated to appear in the film (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12065#) under the previous director Joe Carnahan, and Rhys Meyers is on board for the film's current incarnation, which should be one of next year's big films.
"It was kind of weird," Johansson told us, "because I was training for it when we were shooting 'Match Point', and now Johnny is doing it. I kind of know the whole story, but I'm keeping my lips shut. I went to work with Woody again in London for the summer and I left the role to Johnny."
"Yeah, it's very hard for me to run around with fake boobs and a blonde wig," Meyers joked, but when we asked what he could tell us about it, he wouldn't budge on the film's apparent code of silence. "Not a great deal," he said, "What J. J. Abrams has done is that he's taken all of the good elements of Brian De (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12065#) Palma's 'Mission: Impossible' along with the very glitzy stunt elements of John Woo's and married them into a very intelligent script. It's a much more deeply intelligent film, because of his own personal intellect being put into it, and also an incredible cast like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Billy Crudup and Laurence Fishburne. These guys are not hacks; they are all deeply intelligent and talented actors. Ving Rhames, was basically born to do the role of Luthor and he knows it so well that it's second nature to him. And Tom…I don't know anybody else who could play Ethan Hunt, because he is Ethan Hunt."
At least Philip Seymour Hoffman, while doing press for Capote told us that he would be playing a bad guy. Rhys Meyers was even more tightlipped when asked of his allegiances in the film. "I can't tell you. You have to make up your own minds…" With a bit of urging he agreed to tell us something, but only under the condition, "I'll have to take your first born."
If you can't wait for Mission: Impossible 3 (http://comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882), which comes out next May, you can catch Jonathan Rhys Meyers in some steamy love scenes with Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen's Match Point (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=9302), out in New York and Los Angeles on December 28.

M:i:III Wraps Principal Photography
Source: Paramount Pictures
December 6, 2005
Principal photography wrapped in Shanghai on Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) on November 29, two days ahead of schedule. Production began in Italy on July 12, 2005.
Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams stayed on to hold a press conference for the Chinese media on November 30. At the conference, Cruise said, "It's the first time I have visited this spectacular city and our work here went very smoothly. We worked at terrific speed."
They also spoke about how impressed they were with the competence of the Chinese movie (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12264#) crews and how well the two nationalities worked together.
Abrams told media that "close to 20% of the movie takes place in China." Shanghai is the setting for the most dramatic stunt in the film (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12264#).
Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) is the first large-scale American film (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12264#) to showcase contemporary Shanghai. Filming also took place in the ancient fishing village of Xitang, which gives a fascinating contrast between ancient and modern China never before seen on the screen.
Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) stars Tom Cruise and is directed by J.J. Abrams. The film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12264#), Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Keri Russell, and Maggie Q. The action thriller was shot on location in Europe, Asia, and the United States. The film is scheduled for release May 5, 2006.
Tom Cruise returns as Special Agent Ethan Hunt, who faces the mission of his life in Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882). Director J. J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) brings his unique blend of action and drama to the billion-dollar franchise.
Cruise kicked off Mission: Impossible III (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882) on the heels of his latest box office smash, War of the Worlds (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=12264#), which was directed by Steven Spielberg and opened worldwide June 29 to rave reviews. To date, War of the Worlds has grossed over $580 million worldwide.
The screenplay was written by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & J.J. Abrams, based on the television series created by Bruce Geller. The film is produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.

I had issues with it as well. But it was a real emotional moment and it was Bourne's inciting incident for the main plot. It made the resolution that much more ultimately satisfying, bittersweet, and poignant. Cold really isn't a word I'd use to describe. Dark and a little harsh maybe...
Help with what Vile ? my point was that you don't judge fairly you are so biased towards Bourne and Spiderman movies that it clouds you but at other times when you are not cauhgt up in something ive seen you be very objective
The Bourne movies are signficantly better spy movies than MI. I proclaim it. Spider-man has nothing to do with this.
I think I am being objective when I say that the Mission Impossible movies are mediocre. The reason they keep getting new writers and directors is because of Tom Cruise and his being a tyrant and a control freak on the set. This is why Joe Carnahan didn't do the movie and why it was delayed so long. Earlier this year Paramount nearly didn't even greenlight the movie due to its rising cost and budget and Tom Cruise's ludicrous public behavior on Oprah and with Katie Holmes. This is also why I ultimately hope that Cruise is not involved with Iron Man. I dislike how Cruise has sort of ruined the team element in the MI movies and just made himself this invincible superman that can't be hurt.
I have a lot of faith in the guy that created both Alias and LOST and i loved Mi-1
Alias was overrated and lost its piss after 2 seasons and limped on from that point.
so Woo's wasn't that well recieved but that doesn't mean Abrahams can't do a good job of 3:)
The movie was well recieved at the time, if you remember it did superior business to the first one, and was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2000. What I'm talking about doesn't have to do with perception thought ;) .

Hey I even went to see it in theaters. I loved Mission Impossible and MII just didn't have what I loved about MI. Woo turned MI into one big action scene.

Here's the thing about M:I-2; had it been a stand alone film with no connection to the Mission Imposible franchise, it might of been acceptable. As a film, it still had a lot I took issue with, especially how quickly they threw Cruise and Newton in bed together. Hunt shouldn't be James Bond.
The problem with M:I-2 was the fact that it was such a drastic departure from the first film. People who took issue with the plot of the first film forced producers to go more the action movie route than the spy thriller route of the first film. And the whole "team" dynamic was a lot stronger in the first film. The second one was just all about Cruise. And while Ethan Hunt is sort of a badass in the first one, him becoming the long-haired wannabe rebel in the second one just made me gag. And for the love of god, the doves!! OH!! THE DOVES!!! WHY, JOHN WOO?!?!? WHY?!?!?!?

MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE 3 (or M:I:III - with the first I standing for "Impossible" and the the last three Is being roman numerals and currently setting a record for most amount of colon usage in a film title) isn't set for release until May but you can already start getting yourself ready for the action. At the film's official site, you can register to take part in the upcoming "Ultimate Mission: M:I:III Global Hunt," an online scavenger hunt that can nab you a trip to the film's premiere should you choose to accept it. And why wouldn't you? You, Cruise, Katie, junior....how can you miss? So what exactly is the "Ultimate Mission" scavenger hunt? It's described as a "multimedia" scavenger hunt that will "challenge your skills locating and deciphering clues all over the internet." Considering you spend most of your day locating naked pictures of celebrities, this should be right up your alley. Head over to the film's official site to register for the hunt, which begins in February. While you're there, you can always check out the film's teaser trailer and poster and listen to the iconic theme song over and over and over and over again until you want to scream "red light, green light!" and jump off an exploding helicopter onto a moving train.

Doug Liman, the director of Bourne Identity is doing Bourne Ultimatum, and I don't remember all too well, but I don't think Liman used shakey cam in Identity. Plus he didn't use shakey cam in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, so I don't think he'll do that for Ultimatum. Your wish might just be granted.
But after Ultimatum, I wonder if they'll continue to adapt more of Ludlum's novels.

Greengrass did a pretty good job, but like you said, if it weren't for the shakey cam.
It is a trilogy but Ludlum did other books not about Bourne. And I think Eric Van Lustbader is doing a second Bourne Trilogy where Bourne is much older, and I believe it focuses on his daughter as well. If they ever do that one they're probably going to have to wait until Matt Damon is much older.

It was awesome IN SPITE of that. They made it work and it made the action sequences more kinetic and added more an active viewing and gritty, realistic aspect to the movies.
And once again, superior on every level to the MI movies or Tom Cruise vanity projects as I like to call them.

I like the Bourne movies, though they are a tad bit overrated and don't follow the book at all, but that is beside the point.
As for Mission Impossible. The first one is a classic spy thriller. But the second is a terrible movie. It has no plot and is just a rip off of James Bond and trying to Americanize him for the Jerry Brucheimer audience. The plot was trite. He became a super-spy who had to rely on slow mo and doves to the point of annoyance and unintentional giggling. There was no team dynamic and the villain was terribly boring.
As for this one, well the villain in Phillip Seymore Hoffman looks really good, but Tom Cruise looks really bad in this, just another star vehicle and his performance just from the teaser reminds me more of his boring character portrayal from the second one moreso than the first and the heavy action also reminds me of the second more than the first with little comment on the plot.
I'll see it, but I have low expectations and suspect the only good thing will be Phillip Seymore Hoffman as the villain.
Oh well.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. But MI3 looks like it is bringing back the espionage and teamwork that the 2nd was horribly lacking with a mixture of the action that the 2nd had. But I know Seymour Hoffman is going to have an amazing performance so there is at least one thing I know will be good. Whoever thought to cast him is a genius.
