I don't see the appeal of Vincent Cassel. He is thin. That's it.
Mr Sensitive
12-08-2005, 06:29 AM
Also, he looks like the Joker (even without make up) and is able to depict both intense and lunatic fellows.
regwec
12-08-2005, 06:36 AM
He looks more like a young woman than The Joker, in my opinion. And he's French. That may not matter, but it is a fact that cannot be ignored.
Mr Sensitive
12-08-2005, 08:03 AM
regwec, caro mio:
I really don't think he looks like a woman, but certainly not a young one, that's for sure.
As for him being French, not a problem at all. He's being working in American films for a while, and if his English needs a bit of improvement it is quite easy to do it.

well he was in the Pianist, and in King Kong, but yea, I can see where you're comin from. He might not portray the joker properly or something like that could happen. but I still think its very possible he could do it.

GaryBall
12-08-2005, 08:14 PM
Physically, he's perfect - tall and skinny, long face, pointy nose... etc. He's an academy award winner, but not too A-list that he would try to steal the show like Nicholson did. I can't tell from anything he's been in if he'd be a good Joker or not.
The Chairman
12-08-2005, 08:15 PM
Brody would be awesome. He's in my top five.
He has the look. He's 6'1, 32 years old, has The Joker's build and long, angular nose, and he is an amazing actor (he has an Oscar).

I think he could deliver a good performance of The Joker. He's got the look for playing the role of The Joker.
Caliber

I dont' think the look matters because its the acting part that is neccessary. I would love to see him as the Joker. I think he could do it since he has done many different roles.

He has a long, slim face; but his features are actually rather soft. He doesn't look capapble of malice. That is reflected by the parts he generally lands. They tend to be sympathetic rather than dangerous characters.

Adrian Brody would be great Joker he's 6'1 tall he’s noise is bit longer basically he has look of Joker and he can act as well. my favourite movie of his would be The Pianist.

I have a friend who's been saying this for a long time...long time. I like it. It isn't the be-all-end-all choice (I haven't come up with one yet) but its certainly promising. I think he's a good enough actor to do it well.

Bat-God

No, something about him just doesn't say Joker to me. Maybe his mellowness.
For me, it's Pual Bettany or Jason Lee. Bettany for his performance in Gangster No. 1 and Lee for his performance in Dogma. Remember at the end when he kills the bartender with the machine gun and then laughs AFTER telling a joke? That SCREAMED Joker to me.
Mr. Socko

antmanx68
12-11-2005, 04:13 PM
I dont think Brody can be animated or "out there" enough to make the character work the way he should. Thats why i'd prefer someone like Alan Cumming, the guy isnt much in the "intimidation" department but he naturally has a very loony and unpredictable feel.
edit: I wouldnt be the least bit upset if they DID cast Brody, the guy is a very good actor and has some of the Joker's features (big nose, tall, skinny, age)... I'm sure he'd do it justice, as they're naturally going to tailor the part slightly for whoever they choose.
A long time ago I had thought of him for the role simply because of his features. It was really an aesthetic fanboy-esque type of casting it wasn't based on any of his previous roles. Not much thought really went into it. However once I started hearing Bettany's name attached to the role I immediately thought he was the ideal choice. Simply because I'm familiar with his acting and I know he's really got the chops to pull it off. Brody's not a bad choice though I mean if things don't go well with Bettany or even Sam Rockwell if he ever gets screen tested the producers should give Brody a try

Johnny Depp's star power would be a key for the sequel.
Whoever will be The Joker, hopefully the actor can show their menacing side when portraying The Joker. Something that Nicholson didn't really show.

The sequel will probably be the biggest film of the three. The Joker is one of the most well known iconic in comic today. That is why I hope their searching for a star powered actor to be The Joker.

Batman-On-Film.com said so.
Concidering no one knows who's IN the running to be the Joker, who are they to say who's out. Nolan's doing the Prestige, and I doubt he's even started serious casting for any unestablished roles in the sequel.
Also, you guys follow anything that site spits out, they could say someone like Jamie Foxx is going to be the Joker, and the next day there would be 50 manips of him up here. And then there would be a flood of people saying "how he would be great for the role because of his perfomance in *insert stupid TV show or movie here*.
Unless it's coming directly from Nolan and the WB, or even the actors themselves, I aint buying nothing for Joker casting. Everything here AND on Batman-On-Film is just simply fan speculation.

Except, of course, that he obviously does.

Good actor, long facial features and lean, thin body, strong middle american accent, no stranger to action roles, weird laugh, yeah... I think your right. He would be tottally wrong for the role. Brody has never really looked "creepy" to me. I just can't see him that way. His features do fit The Joker, but I don't believe he could pull it off. I think that Bale's portrayal of Batman really made you fear him, and I can't see Brody facing off against someone like that. Hulme on the other hand looks just as menacing as Bale.

Jack Nicholson's age wasn't a huge factor for when he was The Joker.

Jack Nicholson's age wasn't a huge factor for when he was The Joker.
YES, Jack's age was a huge factor. ALL of us can pretty much say that Jack was geriatric Joker. His age was not a nig deal at the time cause there was no internet for people to ***** about it on lol. We all look back and agree he was too damn old for The Joker, while great, or at best mediocre for what Joker actually is, but too damn old.
Mosely is just about the same age Jack was back in 88' when the film was actually shot, not '89 when it was released.
and while Jack is a great actor, by most's standereds, Bill is just as great as well. Jack's best days have been behind him since Batman, before Batman. All he does now is walks through his roles with ease and makes all his characters seem like just an extension of himself, that sucks.
Bill on the other hand is great because he makes you believe that character of Otis. I have seen Bill outside of Otis on the audtion tapes for "Corpses" and he is just a regular dude. When he becomes Otis you can't really see Bill anymore. Same goes for Chop top in "Texas Massacre 2", you can't tell who Bill Mosley is by watching that chatacter, all you see is Chop top.
That is the difference between a great actor and great acting. Jack just has nothing left to prove so he kinda just acts, while Bill is still ready to make people aware of who he is. I wish he could get better roles after Otis.
With all that giberish said lol, Bill is still too old, barley, for The Joker. But yes he was an early though of mine and he would be a great Joker, just with a bad accent.
After watching the Divinci Code trailer, I want Paul Bettany as the Joker now!!!

You make the Joker just appear - in this movie, he is crazy, insane, strives for chaos more than anything. He is hated by law enforcement, Batman AND the Mob. I dont like Depp, nor Crispin Glover (btw Bishop he is often talked about), I think the Joker should be Batmans equal, so he needs to be near Bales age and build. I like Paul Bettany or Jake Gaylennhaal.

Ok, I'm trying to come up with some names we haven't heard before, just for the hell of it. Some may not be the best choices, but I'm trying to be original and throw some new hats into the ring. For the record, though, my top choice remains Tim Roth.
My dark horse candidate is Jason Dohring, star of UPN's Veronica Mars. I just rented season 1 on dvd and realized how great an actor this kid is. He can be dark, brooding, funny, sarcastic, and tough. He's skinny and really can pull off unbalanced. Pretty soon, he'll be playing Timothy McVeigh in Dreamland, which shows he can take some pretty heavy roles. Honestly, he reminds me of a young Edward Norton.. Young, though. He's only 23, which is pretty damn young for the role, but the producers are looking for a young Joker. Maybe this is what they want. Keep in mind, though, he is made to look younger in the pictures below, where he plays a high school student. If Nolan and the gang wanted, I'm sure they could make him look older.

There's more to being a good Joker than having the right face. Sure, Crispin Glover looks like the Joker, but he's too wimpy to be the Joker. Well, we cant know that , because a good actor can made things that we dont know! Do you give the to rovin williams after MORK the role of Teacher in a so exelent and dramatic movie like Dead Poets Society (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097165/)? and I think Glover can be intimidating, Look Willard in the part were he go to the office and made the rats attack his boss! his expression on his face and how crazy he looks! I'm sorry, but I hate the idea of Glover being the Joker. I cannot see him being anything but quiet and creepy. Joker is loud, frightening, energetic, and flamboyant. Just because Glover looks the part doesn't mean he's right for it. In my opinion, he most certainly isn't.
Tim Roth, in my opinion, is still the best choice. The man is one of the greatest actors working right now. He disappears into his every role with the ability to change his voice, his mannerisms, his accent, his entire self to become another human being. He and Gary Oldman, both good friends by the way, are the two best chameleons in Hollywood. Roth could easily, easily be energetic and charismatic, while still remaining creepy and terrifying. I'm not sure if anyone else could capture that blend. Just watch Planet of the Apes, The Musketeer, Rob Roy, Invincible, Pulp Fiction, or Reservoir Dogs. The man can act.
For the record, here's what Stax had to say on IGN. "Tim Roth as The Joker. Whomever plays The Joker faces the daunting task of having to top Jack Nicholson. Frankly, I thought Jack's portrayal became too campy as the film progressed (his "Wait until they get a load of me" scene was perfect, though). I think that Tim Roth has the acting skill, sense of humor and sadistic edge that the role requires, and he bears a closer resemblance to the comic book character (albeit shorter). Roth's villainous turns as the devilish dandy in Rob Roy, Dutch Schultz in Hoodlum and General Thade in Planet of the Apes convince me that he could make The Joker his own."

Although I like Roth very much, I can't agree.
And the IGN guy is dead wrong: there is nothing to do with topping Jack Nicholson's Joker. It is to go far from Nicholson's Joker. It MUST be something totally different.
And that's why it would be the same error going with Roth. Both of them (Roth and Nicholson) are great actors, both of them can do great mad villains and both are aged when it comes to the respective Batman movies.
Roth as the Joker would be the same age as Gordon (Oldman, with whom he did Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead). He should be more or less the same age of Batman; and tall, and thin.
That's another actor. There are very good ideas here, already: Cassel, Eccleston, Brody, Theroux, Glover, even Hulme or Bettany. :joker:

Brian2887, I totally agree with you. Tim Roth is such a chameleonic actor who can pull off such a creepy and sadistic Joker. He & Adrien Brody are the only actors in the poll who could possibly match up to Nicholson's performance (I'd say Depp as well but I'd much rather see him as The Riddler). While I think Jack will never be topped, I have no doubt in my mind that Roth will leave his own indeliable mark on the role of The Joker.

Tim Roth is a grat actor!!!!! and as I say before, there are a lot of good actors who can play this rol good, but for me, is a big diference with someone who looks good and someone who is prerfect, and i think Glover is perfect in all the meanings, I think nobody give Glover good oportinitys to show what he can do, they only give to glover roles of timid characters, and I think he can sorprise to everybody, he is a grat actor that not to many people can see, because after George Mcfly, nobody give him real oportunitys! S.Conery, Rovin Williams, Tom Hanks, Trabolta and other actors start with roles and movies thant dont let then display what they can do as an actors, see willard and you are going to see how he save that movie from a desaster with his good interpretation, there are moments of magic that are only him! trus me , he is the perfect guy! and also he can made a very crazy sick, dark and diferent joker than the exelent interpetation that Nicolson made! you can see that nicolson made a grat joker, he have a very good makeup , but he have not the body and face of the joker. Crispin look as the joker all the time and he can do a grat work!

I used to be a Glover supporter, but then I heard about how he is so difficult to work with. Apparently, the man is a ***** and doesn't get along very well with the rest of the cast and crew. The new Batman franchise doesn't need that type of nonsense.
Besides, upon further thought, Glover just doesn't seem right for the role. The Joker is the greatest villain of all time, but Glover doesn't emit that type of feeling at all. He can come across as sinister, to be sure, but there is much more to The Joker than that. Don't get me wrong, the man is a great actor, but I don't think he is right for the role. Furthermore, try to envision him against Bale's Batman. It just doesn't seem right.
I haven't been able to come up with a definite actor, but Sam Rockwell caught my eye (mostly because of looks).
Ultimately, I'm more concerned on how The Joker will act. I'm hoping this Joker will be more like the Mark Hamill Joker, except more maniacal, deadly, and evil (The Joker in BB: ROTJ was VERY good.)

I still dont get why you think he's the perfect Joker. Okay, so maybe there is a chance that he could be able to pull it off and surprise us all, but what makes you think this? For most other candidates, we have reason to think they may be good for the role. Paul Bettany in Gangster No. 1 or Tim Roth in Rob Roy, but for Glover, what do we have? Have you seen some film or perhaps a screen test that the rest of us haven't seen? What is there to suggest he'd be a good Joker, other than his looks, which are not nearly as important as acting ability.
I might as well say they should cast Will Ferrel as the Joker because I think there's a chance that he might be able to somehow pull off a performance he's never come close to in his career and play a character totally unsuited for him, you never know, it could happen.

I can understand it, Donner have not only the perfect superman , he may have the perfect Lex Luthor ( Tely Savalas) and they dont take it, now they have the perfect Joker for batman, and they are going to despise this great oportunity... I am so sad!!!
Like I said sorry to dissapoint.

Of course I dont see any casting of him as the joker, but let me say something before.
First I see as everybody, all the draws and ilustrations about joker, and of course there is a lot of diferent interpretation, a lot of them are very diferent one of the other, but if we get the best art about joker, inluding the joker of the batman gotham knigts, you are going to see the same portrait, the same hairlook, the same exprecion on the face, but there are 2 special things, the way of how the smile plays with the chin, the nose, a lot of people give to the joker a aquiline nose, but the best jokers have a special alquiline noise, CRISPIN GLOVER IS THE ONLY ACTOR WHO HAVE THIS TWO SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS and the others to like the hair etc. So his fece is perfect, and that is something important, that is going to help crispin or any actor to act and put the same exprecions that joker made.
Coming back to the begining and the actoral thing, I see in other movies, specially in WILLARD, not only a very very good actor and a person who made a good work on his role, I see CAPACITY, the capacity that someone like Tom Hanks, who start to made comedy and movies for teens, kids and family, but someone see on him the talent and capacity to give him the chace to show everybody what he can do, and look Tom Hanks is one of the best actors of the world.
That is something that novody give to Glover, the fact that he see and know is just some works of him as a timid person, that dosent mean that he only can do that and hve no talent to made other cain of role or interpretation, I know as Tom Hanks and other, that he can do things that we never see, because nobody give him the chance. we see some actor made something very good, and everyvody whant to that actor made the same type of character all the time in all the movies he made, that is very sad thing, I never see Travolta as a bad even Tarantino give the chance to travolta to show other part of his capacity, and he made it great! for that reason I think crispin Glover as other actors have the capacity to made the joker with some things that we know of him and thing that we dont see yet!
The last thing that I whant to sayt is, that it seems to be the way of thinking of a everybody , that it dosent care if an actor looks like some character, if this actor is exelent, I prefer maybe not a so exelent but yes a good actor who look more like the character, than a exelent actor who dosent look rigth.
I think that the good actor who look and become an perfect character, finaly become a better result that the exelent actor who made a disent interpretation.
And I see in short moments in some movies , all the characteristics that a lot of people say that Glover dosent have to play the joker!!!!!!!!!

if you've seen the village or the jacket, adrians definitely would fit in to the role of the joker nicely.
as far as someone who mentioned johnny depp. just for his pure acting skill - this would be an amazing choice. this guy just envelopes any character he takes on to play in a film. watch him in movies like secret window and from hell and pirates of the caribbean.

Sam Rockwell is a great actor, but I see him more as a reserved, arrogant, kinda funny guy, ala Riddler. I'm not sure he has the range to go Joker crazy. Give him an audition, though. He might just have it in him. He was impressive in Matchstick Men and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Leary is next to perfect for this role. He's a crazy person. He fits the Joker's personality better than Lachey Hulme and that Paul Bettany guy.
Who cares if he's in his late 40's? Does he LOOK like he's in his 40s? Not really. And i dont think anyone else other than fanboys would be complaining about his age. Hollywood has make up, make up can make people look younger or older.
