HHGG was great when it started, but seriously dipped at the end.
ROTS... while some of the acting can be flat, and the dialogue (love parts mainly) can be p!ss poor, it is a great film overall. Fun to watch and enjoyabel.
Hell, go and see both for crying out loud. I think ROTS is a better movie.

Well, what can I say. I'm voting for the underdog this weekend. *shrugs* I may see ROTS when all the hubbub has died down. But I'll make certain I take my towel with me just in case there's a wayward Jedi with a lightsaber in the theater.
Whats the difference if you see it now, or when the hype has dies down? Either way, Lucas is getting some of that money? I don't understand your thinking. See it now, Lucas gets your money. See it in 1 week or 4 weeks, and lucas still gets your money.

The only reason not to see ROTS (besides not beinf able to afford it or being in jail or something) is because you don't want to.
If you don't want to see it, then don't.
If you want to see it, wait a week or two (so you are not contributing to the "records" it will break or make) and then go and see it. I promise you it is a good movie. As how 90% of people enjoyed it too.

It does make sense that he comes back as he appeared when he slaughtered innocent Jedi and killed his pregnant wife emotionally.
maybe he came back as the last time he was a good and healthy jedi like a year before ROTS. :o

She is bald (and still very cute, methinks) for the movie adaptation of V for VENDETTA. Read it? I haven't, but I hear good things. Oh and this is directed by the wachowki brothers.

Okay,
With episode III grossing over 16 million at midnight, and with the success this movie is going to have. Do you guys think the sequel trilogy could come out in 10 years? We know those movies have been written, we also know that matthew mayhue who plays chubbaccca, has been signed for them. Do you guys think we will get another set of movies, will george satisfy us?
umm.no. Didnt george lucas say that? HE should make one about yoda!http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

But hey, Lucas, yeah does have dodgy writing here and there. "Me lady" overused in EP 2. But he can be pretty dam funny at times. Like ROTS.
"Chancellor, Sith lords are our specialty!"
"General Grivieous, I figured you be more taller."
And in the OT, with HAN, he was perfect.

i think they will.they have great potential.although he said he wants to do clone wars cartoon some more.then a cgi version of a similar ilk then hes wanting to go on and do a live version tv series following the lives of some of the not so familiar characters.
you know when mace windu supposedly 'dies' well it doesnt show him actually dying so there is potential for his return in ep 7 8 and 9.i also think that han solo and princess leia could have a kid and they could be the restoration of the jedi.but it would also be cool for leia to don a lightsabre.i think the biggest mistake that lucas could make is to kill off either r2 or 3p0.but well have to see what the future holds.

i think the best ligthsabre duel was the one with luke and vader in ROTJ when there is two silhouettes and red and green lightsabres lit up in the dark.so cool.they tried to copy that in AOTC with anakin vs dooku when anakin cut the power line with his sabre.didnt have the same effect IMO

some things ive noticed about clone wars and the star wars films.
in clone wars when the general is trying to capture the senator he is being held off by two jedi.on that is furry and another that has a very powerful throat.if you watch ep IV youll find both these creatures in the bar in which luke and obi wan meet han solo.
C3P0 doesnt recognise the name sky walker in ep IV V and VI yet in ep I he was created by anakin skywalker.is he that dumb to not catch on?
in clone wars shaak tigot her ass kicked twice and still survived yet she snuffs it in ep III is she a rubbish jedi then cos she never seems to win any battles.
also mace windu falls to his apparent death.does he actually die or are we due to see him in ep 7 8 and 9?(if they make em)
if you have noticed anything related to these films then feel free to post em below.

I agree Maul was a great character, however the story needs to move on. Maul had no place in Sidious' ploitical agenda, he was simply thug muscle. Dooku was not only much stronger than Maul, but much more intelligent and savvy. A much better match for what Sidious neded in an apprentice while forming the CIS.
Sidious keeps his apprentices on a tight rope when it comes to their power. Maul was (we can assume) trained from a young age, and had the potential to become very powerful in the dark side, which is something Sidious can not allow.
One of the main themes of the saga in reguards to the Sith is that in the end there is no gain from the dark side. Crime doesn't pay, you might say. This is why Sidious' apprentices die so frequently, and quickly; except for Anakin of course, as he is the main character of the saga.

One's that I whole heartedly agree with..
#5
Jimmy Smits
I don't mind Jimmy Smits. He seems like a nice enough guy. There is just something so utterly distracting about him in this movie that I can't stand it. Thankfully he's only in a few tiny scenes or I wouldn't have retained a damn thing about this movie. Every scene he is in I am forced to just stare slack-jawed at his magnificence/out-of-placedness. It may be narrow minded but I am just seeing Bobby Simone from NYPD Blue. Okay so I've never actually seen an episode of NYPD Blue but I've seen the commercials.
#21
Representative Binks
Apparently the reason that this Galactic Republic has stood for 1,000 years is because of the great rules they have in place. One such rule is that if you don't feel like going to the Senate you can just have your completely unqualified fool of a friend just fill in for you and decide the fate of the entire Galaxy.
#25
Bustin' on Artoo
There's this one scene where Padme and Anakin are walking on Naboo and she says she's a little nervous and he confesses to also being nervous since this is his first assignment by himself. "Don't worry," Padme says. "We have Artoo with us." Then they both laugh about how ridiculous a concept it is that Artoo could be at all useful. Artoo beeps and if Threepio were there to translate it would probably be something along the lines of "**** you both."
eh, I got bored after 30...OMG, I forgot Jimmy Smits was in 2. Ugh!

But, Maul was the "enforcer" hand of Dooku. He could've been the Luca Brasi to Dooku's Don Corleone. Oh, man. I can believe I said that.
First off Dooku and Maul could never have co-exhisted unless they overthrew Sidious, which could never have happened.
Sidious needed a face for the CIS to play off of in his war. He (Palpatine) woudl be the fearless leader of the Republic whild Dooku would be the nasty Sepratist. He couldn't do it all himself, so he needed Dooku to play that part. Plus Dooku was a former Jedi, so it helped in making the Jedi look bad in the public eye, and made it easier for everyone to accept that the Jedi were evil in the end.

I have to say that the only fights that felt like they were genuinely planned and thought out by both sides was the duel of fates in TPM, Obi-Wan vs. Count Dooku in AOTC (not the other two Dooku fights though), Mace Windu vs. the Emperor (after the other Jedi are dead who die way too easily and slowly), Yoda vs. the Emperor (only because there is so little sword fighting going on), Vader vs. Luke (ESB), and maybe the last few moves in ROTJ.
I mean most of the fights in AOTC, half the fights in ROTS, the fight in ANH, and most of the fight in ROTJ are not really fights. There is no calculated "strtegery" (I love our President, or not) in those fights. It is all showy.
The fight in TPM shows you can have a fast showy fight that is well planned, but for some reason the "ultimate battle" between Obi-Wan and Anakin/Vader in ROTS is mostly showy except when they use their hands and feet. The sabre strikes are rarely usable or realistc moves. They are aiming at each other's swords and not an actual target on the enemy.
But most movies do that. Hence, I love the movie that will take the time to make a well chorgeographed and planned fight. For example Achilles vs. Hector in Troy (one of the few great scenes in that movie) each character has a stradegy and every move they did in that fight had a point. Too bad you can't say that for most of the rest of the direction for that movie...

But then I saw the film (twice) and Palpatine's rise to power and using the cloud of war and lines (as Lucas is never a subtle writer) like "You sound like a seperatist" and "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" got people (including myself) laughing at apparent jabs..
But I figured it could be just a vague jab at politicans. But then when asked about it Lucas I read said (and I am paraphrasing here), "I wrote the original Star Wars after Vietnam, and so this has some of the same ideas and you can see some of the same things happening in this movie right now."
So I don't know, I never figured Lucas for an editorialist...

I saw more Julias Caesar in Palpatine's rise than Hitler. Hitler was more of his actions (annhilation) but his rise especially his sweeping control in AOTC and the whole using the war thing seemed more Caesar to me, and the JEdi was Brtus, but this time Brtus failed.

Lucas wrote Palpatine's political rise to power to mirror Hitler's and to be reminicant of Caesar's. It just happens to end up looking a lot like George W Bush, which makes a pretty big statement, though not exactly the statement Lucas intended.

True, however Maul makes Dooku look better. It gives you a benchmark on which to judge the other Sith. Because there is a Maul we are then able to know that Dooku is better, thus giving Dooku's character depth.

Before the prequels I always thought the color of the lightsaber had signifigance....especially in ROTJ. I always thought Luke had picked the green color for his lightsaber because he was conflicted and didn't know which way he was going. It was also apparent because he wore the traditional Jedi robe with the black Sith colors but still remained "good". The green lightsaber represented him being in-between. It was neither good (blue) nor evil (red). That was my interpretation anyway.

The bad chick from Clone Wars started out with Green and Blue sabers, until Count Dooku kicked her butt and cut her sabers in half. But then he gave her two curved-handled red lightsabers like the one he uses. It's really a matter of preference probably. Dark Jedi prefer red sabers because they are more intimidating, but Jedi don't seem to like them because red is associated with rage.
I'm not sure where red lightsaber crystals come from. I believe I heard that they are synthesized in reactor cores which is what gives them their un-natural red color.

...Have re-recorded music? I was watching the DVD the other day, and while the bulk of the audio was fine, the music really gave away the film's age. Much of it sounded tinny and deteriorated, which was much easier to notice than the deterioration on the voices and sound effects. Also, John Williams has much more experience as a conductor now, so he could probably get a better quality performance out of the orchestra than he got back in '77. Overall I think that re-recording the music would help hide the film's age and give an overall better quality to the audio track of the film.
It'd be nice if we had the technology to clean up sound enough that it sounds brand new, but I don't know if we're there yet. Not only would it require very good technology to accomplish, but it would probably need to be done by hand on a computer, which could take years of training on the part of the workers to attain the skills needed to clean up the audio using a visually based program, which is probably the only way you can really do it. I'm sure one day it will be possible, but it's far more complicated than restoring an old image to modern standards. Re-recording the music would at least be a good start in the restoration of the film's audio, and it's one that would be immidiately noticable, even if they have to leave the voices and sounds the way they are.

I think that the blue lightsaber represents pure good. the purple is more towards good but just a bit above the middle because when Windu wanted to end the battle with emperor instead of trial it was against jedi way. yellow is good with a potential for evil which i saw with bastilla in KOTOR. red is just pure evil. green is middle.
also anakin lost his lightsaber when he was in lava, does that mean he is now pure evil? he also looses his red one when his hand is cut off and then he turns good.

No I don't think rank has anything to do with it. Because Obi-Wan is on the council by Episode III but he still uses a blue light sabre. Tall forehead guy is on the Council and he has a blue lightsabre. Frog guy on the Council also has a blue one (sorry I don't know their names).
True fish head and Yoda have green though.
And of course Mace Windu the most baddest ass straight laced by the book Jedi who ever lived and a member of the council had a purple one. HE was no healer, otherwise he would have grown back his arm that Anakin cut off, lol!
I think it is just what looks good with the character. For example, non-council member Qui-Gon Jinn looked cooler with a green one and stood out well to Obi-Wan's blue lightsabre there too.

I liked how Anakin went out in Episode III (unless you are ferring to those two or three Jedi who just stood there waiting to get skewered by Palpatine in the Mace Windu vs. Palpatine office fight).
It was Anakin's acchilles heel (and Achilles was an arrogant ******* to according to the story). HE trusted his power so much he ignored basic trainning and rules of engagement assuming he was invincible and got sloppy and made a simple mistake that was pointed out to him before he made it. And Obi-Wan won the fight because of Anakin's arrogance with a simple swipe that I'm sure was one of the first rules of lightsabre fighting Obi-Wan warned Anakin about.

I doubt it very seriously. You'll probably never see Jar Jar again.
That is why I think Episode I should have started the Clone Wars, Episode II should've ended the Clone Wars and Episode III could've had the birth of vader, the death of the jedi, and Obi-Wan learning the ghost, Yoda deciding where to exile, etc.
I've been saying that for a while gmta

Luke was not nearly as well trained as Anakin was. But Luke learned almost as much much faster. That tells me Luke is more powerful in the force. He is also a stronger person and wiser. Vader (before the suit) lost because of arrogance. It is a simple rule not to try and jump someone with the higher ground. He'd probably do something that stupid against Luke too knowing his arrogance.
The reason Luke's sword skills look so different is that he was choreographed with a more realistic sword skill (as was Prowse's Vader) and not CGi sped up fancy twirling, pointless fighting that pollutes Ep. II & III (the fight wit hMaul was actually a well choregraphed and thought out fight, about the only one in the prequels).
Here is a question I have about the gap:
Obi-Wan is about 20 in Ep. I and therefore 30 in Ep. II and thus 33-35 in Ep. III. That makes him 55 or less (likely around 53, but some would speculate even around 50 or 51). So how come he likes like an old man in his late '60s or early '70s in ANH?
Plot hole?

How do you know what he "looks like" in ANH? It's not like we see his face or anything. He certainly doesn't move or act like he's that old.
Besides, even if we did see him, don't you think the damage/scars would make him look older than he actually is.
Not to mention you could argue that Vader's kinda lived a hard life.
Although with the helmet and all, he has been protected from sun-damage that causes premature aging. :D

Well he was all grey and certainly did not look like a man in his early 50s. Take into account how old Alec Guiness was as well when he played Obi-Wan. And then if we bring back in fighting skill he is certainly moving a lot slower and weaker in his sword fight in ANH as opposed to how he was moving in ROTS or in any of the prequels.
But "maybe they do age faster." Maybe that explains how Owen Lars is Anakin's half-brother but in a 10 year gap is almost as old as a 20 year old Anakin LOL!

As to similarities I saw about Bush.
I think that Lucas just put these in as he wrote the script because some are very obvious:
-Giving up rights to "protect the citizens for a safer society" aka The Patriot Act and people like Rumsfeld and other members saying "torture is okay."
The whole joke of people saying "you're a terrorist" if you don't support the war with the "you're a sepratist."
Then there is how Bush won his re-election ran on people's fear and a war and 9/11, just as Chancellor Palpatine took more and more power using the war as his excuse.
And besides the "sepratist" line, this is the only one I am sure was a jab at Bush that went "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" after he said if you are not with me you are my enemy. Which is basically what Bush has said about Europe, the UN, and other countries. Though nations that actaully harbor terrorists give us oil so they are A-OK with him then.
Not to turn political. I agree with snap! that most of them are errie coincidences and very telling as how many people notice them. But I think the "You're a sepratist" and the "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" are strong jabs at the Republicans at this country. Do remember Mr. Lucas is is quite liberal after all.
Oh well. It'd be great if in '06 we see some bumper stickers based on some lines in ROTS LOL! I think most of it is coincdence though but a sad satement about Americans in today's age if a story in a fictional fantasy loosley based on the rise of Hitler and Caesar can remind them of their modern president.

Ep 1 was sat 32 years before ep 4.
Ep 2 was set 22 years before ep 4
Ep 3 was set 19 years before ep 4
So, 19 years between eps 3 and 4. They could base the TV series on it. Forget the lesser characters.
Me and my brothers are writing a TV pilot script about young Han Solo. He'd be about 18, and the series would show how he met Chewbacca, became a smuggler, won the Falcon from Lando, etc. There'd be alot of story-arch episodes, in between those the episodes would be "mini-movie" format. If you've never seen the show you can just drop in and see one of Han's adventures, and not have to worry about being familiar with what's going one.
Han would be played by a young, un-known actor, but they'd have to find someone who looks like young Harrison Ford. I'm thinking someone kinda like River Phoenix from Indiana Jones and the Last Cruisade, only younger and, well, less dead. But you get the basic idea of what kind of actor would be in it.
I'm doubtful that Peter Mayhew would want to do a weekly TV series as Chewbacca though. I'm guessing they'd have to find someone who's a similar height and build, only younger and more flexible in terms of working conditions. It'd be really hard to track such a person down, but I'm sure he's out there, somewhere.

I have a question for a story i've been writing. How old is:
Qui-Gon in Ep. 1?
Obi Wan in Ep. 2?
Count Dooku in Ep. 2?
Palpatine in Ep. 2?
Mace in Ep.2?
I need to know for a back story, so i needed to know their ages. help would be most appreciated.
My guess is that Obi wan is about...
24 in Ep. I
34 in Ep. II
38 in EP. III
57 in Ep. IV
Now Alec Guiness was 62 ( I believe) when he shot Star Wars...so that is a 5 year miss...but that can easily be explained by the harsh living conditions of being a hermit on Tatooine.

How about we ask Lucas what the answer is:
Then we will get to the third film, where he is seduced to the dark side, which brings up to films four, five, and six, where Anakin's offspring redeem him allowing him to fulfill the prophecy where he brings balance to the Force by doing away with the Sith and getting rid of evil in the universe.

Lucas has changed his mind so many damn times about Star Wars you can't hold him to anything. Originally ObiWan brought Luke to HIS OWN brother Owen Lars - not Anakin's half brother Owen.
And Yoda HIMSELF - in ROTS casts doubt on the validity of their INTERPRETATION of the prophecy. What does balance mean? Well - no one can be sure. So grow up.
And Anakin doesn't destroy the Sith - even in Jedi. The Emperor isn't dead. He lives past it. As do other Sith Lords that arise after him. So the death of the Sith is NOT the balance referred to. It simply doesn't happen. The balance must mean something else.

You can keep living in a fantasy world where that is the case, but that doesn't make it correct. Anakin destroys the Sith, period. This is central to the story, and can not be contradicted by a book or comic or whatever you're getting that filth from.

The main reason why I like Anakin/Vader vs. Obi-Wan (In Episode III) is you get to see The powers of The Force. the fight is both fast but very emontional,
It was one of the reason why in ROTJ, I like the battle between Luke vs. Vader more, than EBS. Because (ROTJ) had a very emontional, (Luke didn't want to fight his father, His father didn't want to kill him etc... So that's why ROTS battle between Anakin/Vader vs Obi-Wan is now my number 1 favorite.

Empire Strikes Back will always be my favorite film in the series and the duel in that one will always be the best, to me. A close second would be Return of the Jedi. I think the only reason I like the one in Empire better is because of the "I am your father" part. That scene is forever immortalized in cinema history, more so than any other part of Star Wars. I also voted for Episode III as well, because Obi-Wan vs. Anakin was pretty hardcore.
An honorable mention would be the last duel in Episode I, but it just doesn't compare to the others because its like one of the fight scenes in the Matrix Reloaded: a lot of ass kicking, but no dialogue or emotion (at least not until Qui-Gon dies... then it gets a little better). Just continuous pounding the crap out of each other.

http://www.acadiacom.net/vaderson/Yoda.htm
Like many of the ancient Jedi, Yoda's past remains a closely guarded
secret. According to Yoda's own words, he trained Jedi for more than
800 years, and it is known that he was about 900 upon his death. Yoda
proved a stern instructor and would only teach the most serious and
committed students. Among these was Obi-Wan Kenobi, a young and
reckless youth who proved incredibly strong in the Force.
While training his students, Yoda demanded that they improve their
bodies as well as their minds. Aspiring Jedi endured marathons and
learned to balance their bodies in strange ways. They also expanded
their abilities to levitate objects and sense the future.
Despite his vast power, Yoda was forced into hiding by Emperor
Palpatine's campaign against the Jedi. Yoda retreated to Dagobah,
where he kept careful watch over a sinister tree hollow that served as a
link to the dark side of the Force. On Dagobah, he subsisted on a diet
of roots, plants, fruits and fungi, and built his home of mud, sticks, and
stones. He also used the Force to monitor progress of Luke Skywalker
and Leia Organa, the children of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader.
Eventually, Luke found his way to Dagobah and, after some debate,
Yoda agreed to teach the boy. During the arduous training, Yoda
lectured young Skywalker about the Force while Luke performed
rigorous physical and mental exercises. As part of his teachings, Yoda
warned Luke of the dark side, which had claimed Vader.
As his powers expanded, Luke learned to glimpse the future and
discovered that his friends were in great danger. Despite Yoda's
advice, Luke left Dagobah and traveled to Cloud City. There, Luke
almost fell victim to Vader, much as Yoda had feared.
A year later, Luke returned to Dagobah to continute his training with
Yoda. The venerated Jedi Master, however, was near death. He
informed Luke that he had to confront Vader once more before he
passed away. A short time later, after the Battle of Endor, Yoda,
Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker, appeared before Luke as
luminescent beings at one with the Force.
The Jedi Master Yoda lived to be approximately nine hundred years old before he finally died. For most of those years, Yoda served as mentor and teacher to Jedi Knights. A member of an as-yet undetermined alien species, Yoda spent his last years in seclusion, hiding from the eyes of the Emperor on the swamp planet Dagobah. Two of his best students were Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.

A light saber's color is determined by the crystal that was used during is construction. The jedi as part of their training build their own saber using natural cyrstals found on Illum. As stated by an earlier poster jedi sabers are either green or blue. Mace only got a purple saber as a favor from Lucas to Sam Jackson. The in galaxy explanation being he found a very rare crystal that produced a purple blade. The sith use synthetic red crystal that obviously produce a red blade. Anakin/Vader had not had time to build a new Sith saber before being dispatched to Mustafar, nor did Sidious present him with one when he received his new sith name. Which I think would have been cool. I would assume Ventress from the clone wars cartoon got her blue and green sabers from jedi she had bested.

His mistake was in making Anakin out be so "powerful" in the first place. All that talk of a chosen one and mitichlroines (sic). The impression I got from the original Star Wars was that Anakin was more like Luke. He grew up being a starship pilot and for some odd reason this "Clone Wars" business wasn't going so well and Obi-Wan tapped him to go on some "fool crusade" with him and taught him the ways of the Jedi in the process and because he couldn't train him as well as Yoda (implying Yoda didn't lose students; he's a freaking MASTER and Obi-Wan was only supposed to be a Jedi Knight and that's the whole POINT there).
Anakin wasn't supposed to be that powerful. He chose the QUICK and EASY path of the Dark Side as a SHORTCUT and was seduced by its power (not tricked into joining it to try and save his wife; that's not seduction AT ALL). It wasn't that he was so powerful, but that he betrayed the Jedi and helped the Emporer to make them extent and hunted them down (I didn't see any hunting happening there). He LOST against Obi-Wan because Obi-Wan was his master at the time and he wasn't fully trained. This movie makes Anakin out to be vastly superior to Obi-Wan at the onset and then he somehow loses anyway. Anakin completes his training with the Emporer according to the original Star Wars and Darth Vader says, "When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master" implying he got his butt kicked because he wasn't fully trained, but this movie makes him a full fledged bonafied fully trained Jedi Knight that Obi-Wan even admits is better (more talented) than him in his one little speech. It doesn't jive with the original movie dialogue and that's why it falls apart. It also needlessly puts that scientific chlorine cell crap in there that largely defeats the religious nature of the Force and turns it into science instead.
They also wasted the first movie showin him as a kid and there was NO need for that. Ep III is rushed to address all the REAL story elements for Ep. IV-VI and it's too much for one movie to do it right. There shouldn't have been a Phantom Menace as such and II and III should have been I, II and III to properly cover it all and Anakin should have turned MUCH sooner and lost and then trained as a Sith and destroyed the remaining Jedi (somehow avoiding Obi-Wan as Vader at that point to deal with the learner line). That's the way I see it, at least. I just find it ironic that Lucas is responsible for those very lines in the original Star Wars and yet he doesn't even seem to understand his own story anymore....
