the screening isn't saturday, the tickets TO the screening will be given out saturday. or something
me and my friend Mike, (who co owns one of philly's comic stores) went out drinking, and decided to stop by the Marriot, the hotel closest to the convention centre were most of the celebs are probably staying. We were hoping some people might be around the bar. it was active, and we saw some people we knew were geeks, but no big names. sat down and had a drink, and I spotted Quesada. Mike's met the man many times before, and they know each other on a professional basis, so we attempted to catch up with him but necessity to pay the bar tab held us up. we gave chase, having seen him leave the lobby with some friends, but weren't sure where he'd went, so we ducked into every bar in the vicinity to see if they'd gone there, but no sign. but, the weekend should be a blast, and I'm sure I will have many more interesting stories to tell when it's done

Oh, I saw the shirt in that Newsarama article but I didn't actually read what it said. I was too dismayed by the Super-New Un-Old Excalibur crap. :(
Can't wait until they visit the Heroes Reborn world, or as it's known now, Planet Doom. :D

And I agree DBM. I hope they go straight to the Pitt!!! (I'll buy them a drink!....Damn you Byrne!)

I like the redesigns of Cap Britain and Juggarnaut. A little bit retro and still updated.

I don't like Captain Britain's presence. What happened to Excalibur (the sword) and Otherworld? It looks like they're sacrificing all that just to toss him back into the stupid, muddled X-universe as just another face in the crowd.
I do like the Juggernaut redesign though. The helmet's a little weird looking, but otherwise it's cool.

Who's the guy in the middle? Is that the guy Kitty was having a fling with (Pete Wisdom or somesuch... I lost interest in Excalibur before all of that)?
I'd like to hear what the concept for this is. I didn't much care for the recent Excalibur, and I like these characters.

as far as complaints go, isn't that kind of petty. you don't like that they're putting Braddock back in the mix instead of retiring him to limbo so that no one else can read about him? yeah, it was cool that he was King of Otherworld. but it meant the end of his story in some ways. i think it's always better to let the story continue if possible. now, i would be angry if i were a huge fan of Kelsey Leigh, although i think she should have been created as just another UK hero instead of an actual 'Captain Britain.'

I stopped reading Exiles soon after Austen came onboard but I might check out this 2099 story, I'm a fan of the line too.
Have there been any 2099 stories after PAD's "Time Flies" story in Captain Marvel, not counting those 2099 one-shots that didn't seem to have anything to do with the original 2099 "universe"?

Not that I know of.
I'm a little more excited about the New Universe. I'm pretty sure it hasn't even been mentioned in any way since it appear in Quasar a long time ago.

Marvel's X-Panel @ WW: Philadelphia
Marvel’s X-Panel at WizardWorld: Philadelphia just wrapped, and along with pretty pictures, we've got a report from the floor:
Attending the panel: Tony (Exiles) Bedard, Joe Quesada, Chris Claremont, Marketing Manager John Dokes, Editor Nick Lowe, and Assistant Editor Sean Ryan.
Kicking off the panel with a Powerpoint presentation of X-related images, Dokes emceed, and moved right into the info. Following the slides, the panelists had their say, as did attendees, making with the Q's that needed A's.
Claremont named the lineup for the November-debuting New Excalibur: Nocturne, Juggernaut, Dazzler, Sage, Pete Wisdom, and Captain Britain. The writer said that the new series will go back to basics, as the team takes the responsibility of cleaning up a major repercussion that comes as a result of House of M, adding that the title will be for fans who are looking for cosmic comedy, romance, and adventure in their books. Obviously, it’s set in England as well.
Asked why he chose to use Pete Wisdom (a character created by Warren Ellis), Claremont said he’d been something of a secret admirer of Ellis work, (“even when I wanted to beat him with a stick” Claremont joked) and felt Wisdom was a wonderful character to use. The writer added that things between Wisdom and a “certain brunette” will pick up right away. As for another reason to use Wisdom, Claremont jokingly said that other creators had been stealing his characters for years, so it was time to “steal some back.”
More art from New Excalibur by Michael Ryan (Captain Britain - the male one, Juggernaut, and Dazzler):
Chris Bachalo will debut as the regular penciler on Uncanny X-Men, (as announced right here at Newsarama earlier today by Joe Quesada in his weekly Joe Fridays Q&A) with issue #464.:
Colossus: Bloodline, written by David Hine with interiors by Jorge Lucas (also announced in Joe Fridays). - Speaking to the upcoming Colossus: Bloodline, Quesada reiterated what he had said a couple of weeks abck in his Joe Fridays column that solo X-minis needed to be special and carry a significant impact for the character, and Bloodline, by David Hine and Jorge Lucas, does.
The creative team for Wolverine #33-#35 (a House of M tie-in arc) will be Daniel Way and Javier Saltares. Quesada declined to name the ongoing creative team for the series following the HoM tie-in.
As the image below shows, Exiles goes on a “Worlds Tour” starting with #69, and running through issue #82. The first issue will mark the debut of Paul Pelletier on the series, re-teaming him on a regular basis with his former Negation War partner, Tony Bedard.
New X-Men will see a creative team shift, with Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost coming on board as writers, and Mark Brooks joining as penciler. Given that Yost and Kyle created X-23, the clawed teen female will join the cast with the new team’s first issue, #20.
It was reiterated that an entire, full year of Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday is coming.
Asked about Wolverine being on the New Avengers, Quesada said that it will be a different kind of “membership” than what many fans may expect, and, given that he just showed up in New Avengers, urged people to wait and see what Brian Bendis has planned.
Quesada also reiterated that House of M will have major repercussions for Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man, and these will be touched upon after House of M.
Asked who the third Summers brother was, Quesada said he had no idea, and turned to Claremont, who replied with a “Yep.” The writer added that the question will be addressed in X-Men: The End v2 #5.
Speaking as to why Marvel seems to continually kill Jean Grey, Quesada joked that she was the Kenny of Marvel’s South Park. On the more serious side, Quesada said that she wasn’t coming back, and that she’s really dead…today. Quesada continued, saying that he still feels that characters should only come back from the dead if the return is part of a great story, and given the poignancy and heart of Greg Pak and Greg Land’s Endsong, it would be a major challenge to tell of her return.
Naturally, the panel was asked a question if House of M was an alternate universe, Quesada reiterated that it’s not, and that there will be major repercussions throughout the Marvel Universe. “Fans will be hugely surprised and hugely depressed” at the coming changes, he added.
Also on the House of M front, Quesada stated that this summer’s crossover storyline is only the beginning, and that there will be five major “tentpole” events coming in 2006.
Asked about coming changes in the X-Men, Claremont said that there will be changes as a result of House of M, as well as events in solo titles, such as Wolverine, and Phoenix: Endsong. It was hinted that the entire cast of the X-Men will be up for grabs in the coming months.
“Fans will be hugely surprised and hugely depressed” at the coming changes, he added.
Why do they always say stuff like this and act like it's a good thing?

Another report from the X-Men panel:
WIZ PHILLY: X-MEN: What Happens Next?
BY PULSE CORRESPONDENT MITCH MALTENFORT
The panel was made up of Joe Queseda, Chris Claremont, Tony Bedard, Mike Marts, Nick Lowe and Sean Ryan. If the Crisis Dan DiDio panel was a pep rally, the looser tone of the X-Men panel was reminiscent of a mellower frat party. Joe Quesada was moderator, although that may seem a mismatch of concepts.
The event began with a slide show with future artwork. Among the items:
*According to a mock-up of a T-shirt labeled "Exiles World Tour," Exiles 69-82 will take them on a tour of Earth-616 (mainstream Earth), the New Universe, 2099, the Squadron Supreme's world, and the Future Imperfect world.
* The New Excalibur is based in England, and its membership includes Captain Britain and Pete Wisdom. Chris Claremont promised comedy and adventure, and declared that everyone who complained that the Excalibur series set on Genosha abandoned Excalibur's roots was obligated to buy three copies of the first issue. Other members will be Juggernaut, Sage, Dazzler and Nocturne. The team will be formed to deal with particular repercussions of House of M.
*X-23 will be joining New X-Men. When asked why so many of Marvel's series were "New," Joe Q replied "I like the word. It's just an adjective, like 'Amazing' and 'Incredible.'"
*Colossus will have his own mini-series as pointed out on THE PULSE here: http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=003841 , written by David Hine, which would have a "massive impact on his life."
*Kitty Pryde returns to Japan in a mini-series by Akira Yoshida and Paul Smith.
* The X-Men have a cross-over with Black Panther, X-Men 175 and 176 and Black Panther 8 and 9. The featured artwork reveals Storm mostly revealed by a drape of fabric, reminiscent of how she appeared after Arcade and a Doombot turned her into organic chrome way back when. The original artwork was done by Frank Cho, and an undraped version is supposedly available. (A nude version of Shanna the She-Devil was also promised, with the same grain of salt).
During the questions from the audience, answers usually came from Joe Quesada:
QUESTION: Any cancellations following House of M?
ANSWER: "Not...[pause]...immediately."
QUESTIOIN: What consequences would Wolverine face following "Enemy of the State?"
ANSWER: Chris Claremont indicated that Wolverine would face a number of consequences from that plotline and from his "very unique way of severing relations with women of the Grey family."
QUESTION: When will the third Summers brother be revealed?
ANSWER: "X-Men:The End, Volume 2, number 5," Claremont promised.
Joe Q responded to the charge that Wolverine is overexposed by pointing out that in X-Men: The End, "Wolverine has nothing to do with the story. He's had his end. This is the X-Men's turn."
When asked about future work with Kevin Smith, Joe Q said "I forgot to give my usual disclaimer. I don't know when Spider-Man/Black Cat and Daredevil: Target are due." Joe Q was then asked about Daredevil: Father, and replied "September."
QUESTION: A young woman in the front row asked "Why do you keep killing Jean Grey."
ANSWER: Joe Q replied "She eats with her mouth full. That'll show her. She's almost been created to be killed, like Kenny from 'South Park.' " She is dead for the foreseeable future, and her return would have to be part of a very strong story.
Joe Q said that there has been a lot of focus on his exact words, "dead is dead." He stated that character resurrections, like character returns, should be significant. Even if the death is made with the plan to return the character, the return should be a good story or it would not happen. Colossus was cited as an example: an altruistic death followed by a poignant return.
Psylocke's return seems to be an exception, but as Claremont points out "no one was expecting it." X-Men 460 has hints that something was behind Psylocke's mysterious resurrection, and that there may be problems for her down the line. "Is she her own person, a pawn, or a zuvembie? She has a second chance and doesn't know why, and is looking over her shoulder in case it happens again."
can we change the law so that i can punch Quesada in the face? he manages to piss me off whenever he opens that gaping maw of his. he calls Colossus' return poignant? buh-whuhhh?? that's his example of an exception to 'dead is dead.' how is there an exception to an absolute statement like that anyways?
Sure, it's petty. So? I prefer the Captain Britain who has one foot in Avalon and one foot in the multiverse, not the Captain Britain who's relegated to being a random face in a sea of mutants.
Also, his Nazi pants suck. The rest of the costume is cool, but those pants... let the Nazi look die. :(
fair enough. but from what i remember, he had one foot firmly in Avalon and that's that. he wasn't going to appear anymore unless it was some giant see-through apparition. how boring is that? sounds to me like he's leading this new team. that's not being a random face. i could do without the mutants but oh well. if it's just his costume you're ragging on, i can agree with that. i didn't mind his costume in the last Excalibur mini or his original costume. and since when do Nazis own a fashion?

So, Joe Q's response to the fact that Wolverine is overexposed by appearing in his own comic, New Avengers, every X-title, and many, many guest appearances is that he doesn't play a big role in X-Men: The End? What the hell kind of answer is that?
Also, "New" is not an adjective that's just like "Amazing" or "Incredible." It's trite and it becomes dated after like 10 issues. Plus, it loses all of its meaning if everything Marvel publishes features a "New" before it.
In all likelihood I won't be reading New Excalibur anyway, so Captain Britain's presence doesn't really bother me that much. Just seems like they're squandering him in the muddled X-universe when they could've put out a few more minis like the last Excalibur one, focusing on the Arthurian and multiverse aspects of the character.

If it does, I will be pleasantly surprised and take it all back, same as I did for Young Avengers. But it doesn't look like it's focusing on Arthurian stuff at the moment, considering the rest of the cast, the fact that it's supposed to deal with repercussions from House of M, a mutant-centric story, and the fact that it's being written by Claremont, who's pretty much only concerned with the little X-corner of Marvel.

Marvel's House of M Panel @ WW: Philadelphia
Marvel’s House of M panel has just wrapped at WizardWorld: Philadelphia, here are the notes and news:
And yes, it looks like the King of Spain no longer has a role in House of M, given the revised cover to The Pulse House of M Special Edition.
Given the secretive nature of Marvel’s House of M, not many plot points were revealed at today’s House of M panel at WizardWorld: Philadelphia, though that’s not to say the gathering wasn’t without some interesting bits.
Keeping a theme of starting their panels with music, the panel had Black Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get it Started” play as people entered. Joe Quesada quickly moved to the Powerpoint presentation, channeled Magneto for a brief period in presenting the individual images, and then opened things up to comments, questions, and answers.
While the covers to House of M #2, #3, and #5 were shown, the cover to #4 was not, replaced by a “Classified” image.
“Everything we do for the next 18 months comes out of House of M,” Editor Tom Brevoort said, with Mike Marts adding that, “The event is big enough to force us to cancel or end certain titles, and start new ones.”
Brevoort added that status quos of characters will change as a result of House of M, some of which will hearken back to previous relationships seen in years past.
Asked how the Young Avengers will be affected by the House of M storyline, Brevoort said that issues #9-#12 of that series will deal with fallout from the summer’s uberstory.
Quesada twice reiterated that a writer has been selected, and cool plans are afoot for Moon Knight, hinting that the character will see a return round the beginning of 2006.
Asked about feedback on the early issues of Black Panther, Quesada said that it’s been similar to other Marvel series, no less positive, and no more negative.
Much of the Q&A came down to fans asking about favorite characters, and as such:
There are plenty of plans for Carol Danvers, though whether or not she will take the name Ms. Marvel again following House of M was not stated.
Marts said that there are long-terms plans for Polaris (Lorna Dane), following House of M, which will address questions surrounding the character, assumedly, whether or not she is, in fact, Magneto’s daughter.
There will be more information in House of M about the “Magneto” who virtually destroyed New York near the end of Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run. It has been speculated that the version of Magneto who acted as such and perhaps even posed as Xorn was a construct of the Scarlet Witch in her pre-Avengers Disassembled madness.
Asked if Luke Cage will ever get a costume, Brevoort said that the issue will be addressed in The Pulse #11.
Talking about Young Avengers again, issues #7 and #8 will deal with the characters’ backstories – parents will be introduced, and more will be learned about the characters themselves.
Though not saying who, Quesada said that Marvel has secured a “stellar” creative team for Iron Man, post the Warren Ellis/Adi Granov run. The Editor in Chief implied that the announcement of the new team would be coming later this summer.
Likewise, Quesada said that this summer, Marvel would announce a major exclusive creator signing.

And JMS Q & A:
The J. Michael Straczynski Panel @ WW: Philadelphia
The J. Michael Straczynski panel has just wrapped at WizardWorld: Philadelphia, and here are teh news and notes...
A storyteller, even in his panels, J. Michael Straczynski’s panel at WizardWorld: Philadelphia was peppered with anecdotes, remembrances (his first meeting with one of his heroes, Rod Serling, for example), hints and teases of what’s coming up in his comics, as well as a focus on the smaller, more character-oriented moments he enjoys writing, and is proudest of.
Getting into the questions, answers, and teases…
Asked about the complications that living in Stark Tower could present for Peter Parker and Mary Jane (as a result fo Aunt May’s house being burned down in Amazing Spider-Man #518), Straczynski agreed that it does present challeneges for the characetsr. The writer further elaborated by telling of an upcoming story wherein Peter and MJ will become separated late at night, forcing Mary Jane to travel to Stark Tower on her own.
Upon arriving, she’s spotted by paparazzi who ask why she’s going to Stark Tower at 2:00 am. A quick story about a meeting with Tony Star later, MJ and Peter will find their marriage the subject of tabloid speculation.
Along the same theme, Straczynski said that coming up in Amazing Spider-Man, Aunt May and Jarvis’ relationship moves to the next level, much to Peter’s dismay. There’s a strong likelihood that Aunt May will stay at Stark Tower when Peter and MJ eventually move to their own apartment.
Also on the Spider-Man front, JMS began the panel asking how many of those present liked the “Sins Past” storyline. A smattering of applause came back. When asked how many people didn’t like it, only one hand slowly went up.
Asked who he felt Peter should ultimately be with, Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy, JMS tossed ideas back and forth for a few minutes, centering on the fact that Gwen is dead, and Peter having a relationship with a dead woman would show an entirely new, and disturbing side of his character. Ultimately, addressing the context of the question, JMS said that he feels Peter is a better match with MJ than with Gwen.
Straczynski said that he is currently working with Marvel Productions in regards to developing a television series based on Marvel characters. According to JMS, budgeting talks will be held in August, and if the series is greenlit, and moves forward, a debut could be as early as late 2006. Familiar with television, JMS added that nothing is definite at this stage, and urged attendees not to be disappointed if nothing comes of the talks, though he is hopeful.
Asked (jokingly) if he has plans to reveal a secret tryst between Sue Richards and Galactus, now that he’s writing the Fantastic Four, Straczynski laughed, later promising that there would be no revelation of relations between Sue and Galactus.
On the FF front however, JMS said that an upcoming storyline will see Child Welfare coming to the Baxter Building to speak with Franklin Richards about his parents, and the adventures he and his sister find themselves having, living with the Fantastic Four. The story hits the major appeal of the FF for him, Straczynski said, a blend between the cosmic and the family relationship sides of things, and this coming story will explore the family side of the equation, and the fact that the children do live in an occasionally dangerous environment.
As for continuing with Dr. Strange, JMS said that he has a full workload now, and that Marvel is waiting to see how the Strange miniseries performs as a whole, and what to do with the character from the launching pad the miniseries represented. JMS added that he won’t be involved with the character’s immediate future.
On the subject of other publishers and characters, JMS retold the story of Jeph Loeb telling him that whenever he’s no longer exclusive with Marvel, there’s a Superman book with his name on it at DC. Straczynski said that his rules are to work with anybody – and not restrict himself, but he wondered aloud at how well he would work with DC, commenting that the publisher, compared to Marvel, is more “handcuffy.”
The film rights to Rising Stars, previously held by Atlas Entertainment, have expired, and currently, according to JMS, there are three studios vying for the rights to the story.
Speaking of Supreme Power, JSM said that Mark Milton/Hyperion will decide that the world would do better if he was in charge, a parallel of sorts to the Squadron Supreme maxiseries of years past, but with its own twist.
As for Babylon 5, JMS said that he told the story that he wanted to tell, and plans for a feature film based on the property never really came together. Right now, there are no plans for B5 for film, television, or books, according to the creator.
Also on the television front, Straczynski fielded a (or the obligatory) Star Trek question, about a reported meeting that he had with Paramount about him writing Star Trek. Setting the record straight, JMS clarified, saying that he and Bryce Zable (creator of Dark Skies) wrote a treatment for a reboot of Star Trek. They did speak to Paramount about it, but as JMS explained it, the studio has a bad taste in their mouths over what has happened to the franchise over the years, up to and including the cancellation of Enterprise. He said that Paramount is looking to take two or three years off of the franchise, but the day they decide to come back to it, JMS said, “I’ll be there” (not in a contractual sense, but willing to work if called).
Asked about a scene in Amazing Spider-Man #500 which showed Peter Parker receiving the costume that he saw his future self die in, JMS said that he created the costume with a mind towards Marvel’s The End series, so there is a story behind it. While the story could be akin to a Dark Knight Returns version of Spider-Man, JMS said that there are no current plans, but he does know the story behind it.

This Spidey stuffs sounds good. :D

Maybe we'll see Spider-Man: The End by Jms someday, but I really don't want Peter to die in it. Give him a happy ending.
TheCorpulent1
06-04-2005, 02:14 PM
Maybe his happy ending will come before that. He could retire from superheroing and live to a ripe old age, then something happens and he's gotta put on the webs one more time. That'd be ok by me.
The tabloid stuff and the Aunt May/Jarvis relationship does sound pretty good. I really hope JR Jr. is back on ASM by then though. I just enjoy ASM less when Deodato's penciling it for some reason. :(

I agree, JR Jr is sorely missed.
I know he's doing that Sentry mini with Paul Jenkins but JR jr has to be the fastest penciler in the biz so that shouldn't prevent him from returning to ASM.
Make it happen Marvel!!
TheCorpulent1
06-04-2005, 02:20 PM
It's funny, JR Jr.'s basically an average-speed penciler for his era. He was cranking out Spider-Man and Thor comics simultaneously for a while, but it got to be too much for him so he dropped one while other artists from his day could pencil 2 or 3 monthlies at the same time consistently with only the odd fill-in now and then. But now he's considered one of the most efficient artists in the business because he's working alongside Marvel's new crop of artists, almost all of whom are horribly slow. :o
twinkle
06-04-2005, 02:26 PM
Sure, when compared to the artists of the past decades he isn't that fast. I don't think slow artists are solely Marvel's problem though, DC has plenty of them too. The difference is DC is more prone to use fill-in artists and maybe they also solicit their comics more carefully than Marvel so it only seems their books are less late.
TheCorpulent1
06-04-2005, 02:30 PM
Maybe. Marvel has this totally unfounded fear of fill-in artists though, like it's some cardinal sin to give an artist a breather by having a fill-in cover an issue or two. I can understand why they don't want to use them on The Ultimates or Supreme Power or anything; those are Millar/Hitch and JMS/Frank's babies, respectively. But come on, if an artist is lagging behind on a comic, throw another artist in. Marvel's list of shipping changes would probably let up quite a bit if they did that more often.

Didn't it say that "characters" were being considered? Wouldn't it be cool if they basically made a Marvel Team-Up series like DC's JLU series? It'd be a great way to get many of Marvel's second- and third-tier characters known. They could have each episode be a combination of lesser-known characters and a "star" character (Spider-Man & the New Warriors, for example). That'd be sweet.

Yeah, I've been kinda disappointed with the title too. Still, I'm gonna continue reading it, the next issue looked promising (Jessica sweared a lot :D ) and I'm interested in seeing what will happen to her and the baby. She's one of the best new Marvel characters in years.

A baby of two superhumans will probably have powers but it could take years before they manifest themselves.
TheCorpulent1

I doubt the baby will ever actually grow up enough for powers to be an issue. Aging the baby would mean aging other people in the Marvel universe too, which is something Marvel tends to shy away from.
I still haven't read Alias, so I can't comment on what kind of a character she is in there, but from what I've seen of her appearances around the Marvel universe, she doesn't seem all that special. Maybe my mind will change whenever I finally get around to reading Alias.

But that's what I don't get about people saying she's one of Marvel's best characters. If she's not really appealing outside of Alias, it seems like her usefulness has run dry. Especially since her own creator's the one writing her in the other Marvel universe stuff.

Cup O Joe
The traditional Cup o’ Joe panel with Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada has wrapped, so let's look at the highlights.
Given the nature of the Cup O’ Joe panels, information flies fast and furious, so…on with the bullet points:
• In regards to a reaction to the news that Adam and Andy Kubert, who had been Marvel mainstays for the past 15+ years had signed exclusive contracts with DC, Quesada said that Marvel is very happy fro the brothers, and understood their desire to try something different, adding that they’ll most likely be back someday.
In regards to the Kuberts’ workloads, Andy will complete the first five issue Ultimate Iron Man miniseries, while Adam is drawing an upcoming issue of Incredible Hulk, as well as Daredevil: Target #2 (not a misprint).
• Richard Morgan and Sean Phillips will team for the new Black Widow project, with inks by Bill Seinkiewcz. The first issue is slated for a September release. Regarding the first issue cover image, Quesada commented that, “in this series, DD gets his nads shot off!”
• The Dan Slott-penned She-Hulk series begins in October.
• The backup Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius stories that appeared in issues of Power Pack will be collected shortly, with a new story added in.
• Jessica Jones & Luck Cage’s baby is born in Pulse #11, at which time readers will learn if it’s a boy or a girl.
• The Book of Doom, a six-issue miniseries which tells the origin of Dr. Doom, by Ed Brubaker, Pablo Raimondi and Mark Farmer kicks off in October.
• The Dan Slott written Thing miniseries kicks off in November. Slott, who was in the audience, said that the story is “big fun and action,” suggesting that it will be in the same vibe as his recent Spider-Man/Human Torch miniseries.
• Drax the Destroyer will run for four issues. Editor Andy Schmidt said that they’re not throwing out the character’s past continuity, but they are looking to make Drax cool. Keith Giffen writes, with Mitch Breitweiser on art.
• Runaways #9-#12 features Cloak and Dagger.
• An announcement as to Neil Gaiman’s next Marvel project should be made around Chicago. According to Quesada, it will be set in the Marvel Universe, and will have ties to House of M, adding that it will most likely be a single character story, rather than a team book.
• There will be creator team and character shakeups on the X-titles following House of M.
• An announcement about the new Daredevil creative team will be made soon, meanwhile, Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev are already talking about their next project together.
• Bryan Singer’s Ultimate X-Men arc should be a December or January launch. Quesada confirmed that the director of X-Men and X2 is still on board to write the arc despite his move from the movie franchise to Superman.
• Asked about newsstand distribution and Marvel’s upcoming deal with 7-11, Publisher Dan Buckley said that Marvel will be moving from 5,000 outlets to 25,000 outlets (assumed to be newsstands in general) soon, under a new distribution deal.
• In regards to ‘70s characters, Quesada said in response that Marvel will be publishing an interesting team book in early 2006, and that some ‘70s characters will shortly be seen in interesting situations.
• The Sentry limited series by Paul Jenkins is slated for debut near the end of the year.
• Following his New Avengers and Ultimate Secret stings, Steve McNiven will launch a major new project in 2006.
• In regards to developing new talent and how Marvel is bringing new creators into the fold, Quesada called on ex-Marvel editor CB Cebulski, who pointed out that in 2004, approximately 35 new writers who had never written for Marvel before told stories via the company’s titles. That is a trend Marvel plans to continue throughout 2005 and beyond.

JMS is a huge Superman fan but I don't think he'd like to write Superman book right now unless DC gave him free hands.

THE THING (launching in Nov.) is an ONGOING title.
Honest. No foolin'. Comin' at you each and every month. NOT a mini. A monthly book. Really. I kid you not. One will come out, another will follow a month later, and so on and so and so on. And so on. And so on and so on. For as long as we can. Yes, it is a regular title. I stand by this statement whole-heartedly, without any reservation. Twenty Two pages of goodness... then-- BAM-- four/five weeks later... Twenty two MORE pages of Benjamin J. Grimm. A book by me and Adrea Divito. Starring the Thing.

...
Marvel’s panel dealing with the Ultimate side of things has wrapped. Hosted by Marvel’s Marketing Manager, John Dokes, with Ultimate office editors Nick Lowe and John Barber fielding questions, the panel itself was peppered with news, but leaned heavily towards attendees asking about their favorite characters or possible Ultimate versions of their favorite characters.
On with the bullet points, then…
• In the Ultimate Spider-Man Annual, Spider-Man gets a new girlfriend – someone who has appeared in the series prior, but would be about the last person fans would expect to come back and be a girlfriend.
• In showing the cover of Ultimate Fantastic Four #21, the panelists implied that they weren’t supposed to show the image, which appears to be an Ultimate version of Reed Richards looking at his 616 counterpart through a hi-tech looking glass. No further details were given on the possible story arc, entitled “Crossover.”
• Also, in Mark Millar and Greg Land’s Ultimate Fantastic Four story, the team is sent to stop time-traveling terrorists who have gone back in time, intent on squashing humankind’s distant ancestor just as it crawls out of the ocean.
• Brian K. Vaughn’s upcoming “Magnetic North” arc in Ultimate X-Men will be his last solo arc, and deal with the Ultimate version of Polaris and the return of Magneto. Why “solo,” you may ask? After “Magnetic North,” X-Men director Bryan Singer’s arc will kick off, and Vaughan will co-write it with the director.
• Along the lines of “will we ever see…” questions, in regards to Ultimate Apocalypse, Barber said there will be a good chance before Brian Vaughan is done with his time on the series, implying that the character might show up during his and Singer’s time on the title.
• On the business side of the Ultimate Universe, Dokes confirmed that there will be a corresponding Barnes & Noble edition of an Ultimate X-Men hardcover volume like the Ultimate Spider-Man volume published by B&N. While details were light, the Ultimate Spider-Man version collected the first 39 issues of the series, running 992 pages (and is now currently being remaindered for about $25 at stores).
• In regards to Shang-Chi and Iron Fist, the Ultimate versions of these characters will show up in the “Warriors” arc of Ultimate Spider-Man, beginning in issue #79.

God DAMN those Ghost Rider pics are awesome!
Looking forward to The Thing, Dan.
That JMS Spiderman/MJ story is pretty cool. Can't wait to read it.
Maybe Jess' baby is Scott's...
Nah.. (http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=36&t=003854)
*Pulse 11 apparently introduces Jessica and Luke's baby to the Marvel Universe. The panel assured the audience that the baby's skin tone was only Caucasian because the cover art was still in development. "We used the Marvel stunt baby." The Cage-Jones family are surrounded by the Avengers, with Captain America looking bemused and Wolverine looking outright frightened.

I Hate to Be Proven Wrong I:
I'm on record many times as saying how I don't like painted art in comics.....
...but that Ghost Rider looks pretty darn good.
I Hate to Be Proven Wrong II:
I've never thought the Thing series of the past were all that good. MTIO was ,imo, a pale imitation of MTU, which had some really good stories. When it morphed into Thing, it was better, but not great. NEVERTHELESS, Dan has yet to disappoint. And the preview art looks good too. If they haven't already, Marvel better lock up DS to an exclusive contract, or they'll be regretting it.
I'll be picking up both of these titles.
Things of interest:
- JMS' ASM plans and possible Marvel tv-series
- Brubaker's Doom mini
- Exiles visiting 2099 (can they time travel too now?) and the New Universe
- The birth of Jessica's baby (is that cover an homage to some DC cover? it seems strangely familiar)
- The Thing ongoing
I wish they would have announced Gaiman's next Marvel project already. :(

I don't like the fact that Doc Ock and GG seem to be on that Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man cover. They were the two most overused villains of like all last year and they already appeared together in their last appearance.:(

I think Ill pick up that Thing series. But, not to offend Dan Slott or anything, but how can there be any hope that itll last past issue 12? Really, 18 at most.:(
Doom sounds cool:up:
We'll see about Ghost Rider. Im not saying I dont think itll be good, but I dont think its something Id pick up regularly. Still, hope it does well. Ennis hasnt really done much outside Punisher at Marvel, so its good to see him do some more stuff.
I like the Pulse cover, its pretty funny, as i guess it should be. But i guess its not gonna be the final cover (unless they just color the baby brown:()
Overall, good stuff, though.

I actually thought he dropped Thor because he planned to draw both Spider-Man books, but ended sticking to Amazing because an all new creative team was decided for the other Spidey book.
Ive heard JRJR say in interview that he can do two books a month, solid, so Id say he was pretty efficient even back in the day.

Maybe you're right, but no other villains seem to be implied on the cover, and it seems wierd that Weiringo would pick only two villains for the cover.

The only thing better than JR Jr drawing a monthly Spider-Man book would be JR Jr drawing two monthly Spidey books. ;)

Hehe. I dont know, at the time, I thought it was kind of a bad idea for both books to have the same artist. And don't get me wrong, I loved JRJR probably even more than i do now at the time, but i enjoy me the diversity:up:
But then again, he'd have replaced Byrne, so I don;t think Id really mind:)

I know he's doing Black Panther, what's the other book?
But yeah, he's been with Marvel longer than like anyone, they should give him the big projects:up:
Oh man, Brubaker and JRJR on Daredevil, now that's something I'd prematurely wet my pants to:up:

Wolverine with Mark Millar. After that he's going to do a Sentry mini with Paul Jenkins (of which I'm mildly curious about).

I can't believe I forgot Wolverine. Hell, Im even reading that:(
Ill also pick up that Sentry one, although its too bad its not Jae Lee doing the work there:(
I don't know about Lark. I mean, I love his work and all, but I think its just too similar to Maleev's. That really seems to me why everyone wants Lark on Daredevil. Still, I hope Lark gets some other kickass projects:up:

FROM THE DOM POV: BRUBAKER ON THE BOOK OF DOOM
Announced as being on the schedule at this past weekend’s Cup ‘o Joe panel at WizardWorld: Philadelphia, Ed Brubaker’s The Book of Doom promises, according to the writer, a look inside Doom like none before.
First off, if you’re a Brubaker watcher, yes, you have heard about this project before – it was one of the first things mentioned when the writer began working for Marvel after ending his exclusive relationship with DC.
“Doom came a while back, like late last summer,” Brubaker told Newsarama. “[Editor] Tom Brevoort called me up and said, ‘How'd you like to do the life story of Von Doom?’ He said that Marvel wanted to do something different, to make it like a sweeping Russian epic or something, a giant tragedy about one of the coolest characters of all time, and I said, I don't have time for this now, but do not give this to anyone else.”
As Brubaker said, the story of the six-issue miniseries will be the life story of Victor Von Doom, starting appropriately enough, just prior to his birth, with issue #6 wrapping just before he takes the throne of Latveria. “Each chapter covers a different period in his life, told mostly through his own words,” Brubaker said. “So, we'll see his time in college with Reed and Ben, and his formative years when the Fantastic Four first appear. This is a real world from Doom's point of view story, though, and he's the sympathetic lead, well…as much as he can be.”
While Brubaker knows that a lot has been written about Doom in his 60+ years, The Book of Doom isn’t about re-writing continuity, or juggling things to make every divergent story somehow fit. “I took all the research about Doom's life before the armor we could find, and studied it all, all about his mother delving into the black arts and conjuring demons, all the stories we all know so well, and I just built a big narrative around it all. So, this is sort of like the, ‘If you've never read Doom's life story this is all you need to know’ book. It's very new reader friendly, but there's a lot of new stuff in here, as well, and I do think I've found an angle that no one else has really explored in much depth, yet. I won't reveal what it is, but it really excited me when I realized it had never been touched on - this huge part of the tragedy of Victor's formative years that shaped him and made him what he would become. It was so obvious, too, that it just leapt out at me.”
And given that the story is told from Doom’s point of view, he’s not evil, really, Brubaker said. “He's just the smartest and most arrogant person in the world, a man who the world has tried to break since his birth, but who has never given in, but he’s not evil,” Brubaker said. “He feels he's got a destiny, and it's something that drives him, and makes him more important than other people. Like I said, I'm writing this as if it's this giant twisted tragedy, so you watch him going from an innocent kid to the ultimate tyrant. It's a lot of fun, and deeper than most people would expect from something like this, I think. It's a mental journey, and I'm trying to give it the weight of a novel or something like Citizen Kane. Not that it'll be as good as Citizen Kane, but why not swing for the fences, right?”
That said, Brubaker has assembled a key list of inspirations to pull from on The Book of Doom - along with Orson Welles: “Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Chekhov, Shakespeare, pretty much in that order.”
The Book of Doom is illustrated by Pablo (Madrox) Raimondi and Mark Farmer, and is slated for an October release.

Apparently Dan Jurgens will be drawing the Hyperion mini.
http://www.buzzscope.com/features.php?id=997
I got to hear Dan talking to fans about subjects like his short stint in Spider-man, where he said he’d actually like to get back to the character someday. See, when he was on the title, it was revealed that he was in fact writing the stories of the “dreaded” Ben Reilly. Dan considers himself still never having told a true Spider-man story.
He also has a few projects on the way from Marvel, some of which are: a Supreme Power project that teams him with J. Michael Straczynski and Klaus Jansen & a “How To Draw The Marvel Way”-type book that would feature him giving instructions on art technique.

Weird. Not the kind of artist I would've expected on a Supreme Power project. Jurgens has always been kind of hit-or-miss for me, but usually he's pretty solid.
