I have no idea why, but i've found myself becoming more and more interested in art work. I can't draw worth a s**t, and it isn't even the most important thing I look for when buying comics. But whenever I'm on line, I find myself browsing around lookin for art wherever I can find it. So, I decided I will put this current obsession to good use and start a thread. Post your favorite art from Marvel. Anything goes. Old school, New stuff, hell, even fanart if it pleases you.

Definatley Tropico! Art Adams is unmatched when it comes to the X-men. He really brought them to life for me. (That very first pic of the X-men you posted is my favorite X-men team picture ever, and the pic underneath it, of all the characters is my desktop wallpaper right now! haha)

Hell yeah, Arthur Adams is truely one of the greats.

The fact that two artists (Joe Madureira and J. Scott Campbell) started as clones of his and then went on to succesful careers speaks well of his talents. I agree with you, Sparta, the cover to X-Men Classic #1 has always been a breathtaking one. It's a shame that now he's basically used for covers and that's it.

Funny, Anubis' first post says to just post your faves. Besides, many are just pictures I've grabbed here and there over the years so for many of these I don't even know who the artists are. The ones I do know are quite famous and obvious, so I didn't think there was a point (Bradstreet, Maleev, Quesada, Alex Ross).

If you want to find out who the appropriate artists are, be my guest. :)

Alright Anubis, here is some Sterenko, Kirby, and Kubert for ya...

First up is Kirby. All these cards come from the "Marvel: The Silver Age" Card set.

After that is some Sterenko. The first 3 are from the 1993 Marvel masterpieces set, and the bottom 3 are from the 1994 Fleer Ultra X-men Set.

Last but not least is Joe Kubert. The majority of these scans are from the 1996 Fleer Ultra X-men set. This set came in chrome and non-chrome, but I have the chrome ones, and thats why the scan is a little off. The last card is from the Marvel VS D.C. Card set. I like Joe Kubert, but I definatley think hes second best to Andy and Adam Kubert

Totally agree with you about Davis. He draws characters with different bodyshapes and faces (unlike some artists who draw all their characters with the same Mr.Olympian builds and faces structures -which is fine also -it's just that Davis really distinguishes each character and gives them their own identity).

Love Art Adams' work also. First time I ever saw his work was in a Superman/Batman UK reprint back around 1988 (?) fighting vampires. Both these guys have the talent to really give the characters they are drawing real grace and dynamism (much like the late Gil Kane - Davis' way of drawing flight certainly reminds me of Kane's). Small Heads, disproportionate anatomy, small feet, shoulder and knee pads on like, every charcacter, headguards and guns that looks like hairdryers. First time I saw JL cartoon, I was just horrified, such great detailed characters reduced down to 5 minute sketches.

no no no, not better, I just appreciate his style of art more, I prefer things with detail as opposed to without. I just find Timm a lil too "cartoony" for my tastes.
Not saying Liefeld is a better artist, I would just prefer to read a comic with his stuff than with Timm's stuff.
Also I'm a bit biased since DeadPOol is my favorite Character ever... and Liefeld helped create him, so that is a big part of it.

I've always felt that Timm is a inspired a lot by Jack Kirby. And you can tell by the look of alot of his Marvel art. I like Kirby. And I think that his style, is a great homage to Kirby's work. With Leifeld, you get bad proportion, but does it have the same...artistic integrity that Timm has? I mean, I purfer Ramos or Scottie Young art to Leifeld. His art, and his ideas for stuff, I just don't like. Hated Young blood. Didn't like Supreme, (although Moore took the character as far as possible) hATE cABLE, and I like Deadpool, but I would rather he was drawn by the folks at Udon than by the man who created him. It's the guns. It's the pockets. It's the sholder pads, I mean, yuck.

Sometimes less is more, my friend - just because something has more detail does not necessarily make it artistically superior. Look at the work of Alex Toth - same as Timms - on the surface their work might look simple - but it takes real talent,skill and subtlety to contruct an image the way they do (something Liefield would do well to learn. 1 word -restraint).

I agree that Liefeld is not the best artist in the world, I just am not jumping on the timm band wagon, I as well as some of my friends ( I'm afraid they are classicaly trained artists) are just not big fans of the cartoony feel that Timm projects. I'm not saying that I love or even really like him, just don't dislike him as much as others seem to.

Issues 14 to 25 (series 1) I think. Some of his work was just amazing in that run. This was a time when he had his own distinctive style and Harry Candelero inked his work superbly. Seem to remember (perhaps issue 18?) where Cable is having the last showdown with Stryfe. There is an awsome splash page of Cable (might be the first page) where he is all tooled up and ready for action (note to Liefield: this is how you draw armour and weaponry!) http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

That last photo with Colossus is a little off. His arms are too stubby, so it creates a lack of proportion. It almost seems like the kind of mistake that Rob Liefeld often makes in his art work. It was the cover to an issue of the Hulk. I think it was the one were we find out that one of the agents that released Abomonation was really Betty with exstensive plastic surgery or something. Bruce Jones' run was very confusing.
