I have no idea why, but i've found myself becoming more and more interested in art work. I can't draw worth a s**t, and it isn't even the most important thing I look for when buying comics. But whenever I'm on line, I find myself browsing around lookin for art wherever I can find it. So, I decided I will put this current obsession to good use and start a thread. Post your favorite art from DC. Anything goes. Old school, New stuff, hell, even fanart if it pleases you.

Oh yes, you are quite right. I usually tell the dufference between artists by the way the faces are drawn, but the only face I could really see in this pick was Darkseid's, and his face usually looks the same no matter who draws it.

Alex Ross is a modern master. You could post almost anything from the interiors of Marvels and Kingdom Come. It's all a feast for the eyes.

If I were to break it down by decade, though, my favorites are:

1960's - Jack Kirby
1970's - Neal Adams
1980's - George Perez
1990's - Jim Lee
2000's - Alex Ross

And of these, the greatest of the greatest is still the King, Jack Kirby. Not that I consider his artwork the best, but it was years ahead of its time and the sheer amount of creativity and visual impact practically invented comics as a true artform of the 20th century. In other words, all of the ones that came after him would agree that Kirby elevated comics to heights they had never seen before him. 'Nuff said.

Btw, (slightly off topic) - I've often thought i'd love to know what Alan Davis opinion of Bryan Hitch's artwork,seeing as how Hitch changed his style to copy Davis' some time back, I believe with was Death's Head 2 for Marvel UK'S 'Overkill title, (anyone who used to get the UK editions of G.I.Joe/Action Force will know what I mean - Hitch had a totally different style back in the day!) although Hitch has evolved more since, adding a bit more realism to his work.
The same goes for Paul Pelletier (used to draw the Outsiders and Green Lantern) he copied Davis' style also. Would love to know what an artist thinks when someone imitates his style.

Yeah, I remember there was a time when it was obvious that Hitch was aping some of Davis' artistic elements. I know that it isn't obvious in the pics I posted but I've always loved how he can draw different body styles in one comic. I loved that about him in Excalibur, Kitty wasn't an uber breasted babe and you could actually see the difference in body structures between Nightcrawler, Capt. Britain and Kylun.

I was skimming through this thread yesterday and wanted to post some Mike Wieringo art but since I couldn't find any images that I felt showcased his talent, I put off posting until today. Weird story though, just by chance (or perhaps subconsciously) I took out the DC 1,000,000 80-page Giant to read last night and was delighted to find that the first story was pencilled by none other than Mr. Wieringo. Even better, it was written by Mark Millar and features the DC 1,000,000 Batman and Superman counterparts teaming up against O.W.A.C. (One Woman Adversary Chamber). The book also features a couple of Grant Morrison stories, one pencilled by Cully Hamner who I'm not too familiar with but whose style I love based on this story alone. But what really threw me for a loop was the last Morrison tale, pencilled by Dusty Abel. Mid-way through the story Mark Millar's Superman: Red Son makes an appearance, a full 4 years before the series came out!

That's the problem with censorship in America. Nudity isn't very likely to scar a kid at all, while extrime violence could ruin them psychologically.

And yet kid's shows are full of physically impossible violent stunts (Power Rangers) and there is loads of violence on the news, and nudity and swearing are no nos on TV shows, even ones oriented to an older audience. That's effed up. Nudity is natural. Kid's won't be scarred by it. In fact, they'd be socially better off by being exposed to it early on. It's not that they should be taken to a strip joint, but we shouldn't be up in a fuss because of boobs. We shouldn't shelter our kids from sometjing completely natural. Now, again, we shouldn't be giving them porn, but we should be so uptight about it.

Thats Manchester Black. Superman Villian. He and his original team called the Elite were like DC's answer to the ultra violent superheros of the time like the Authority. They first appeared in action comics #775. One of the greatest SUperman stories ever written. "So Whats wrong with Truth Justice and the American Way?" Some time after Our Worlds at War, in an attempt to drive Superman to kill, he made Supes think he killed Lois. (He's a high level telepath you see.) But Supes wouldn't do it. And realizing that he was really better than him, he blew his own head off. I think, I didn't read that story. That pic came from the JLA Elite mini that was out last year. I think he came back from the dead. Either that or his sister (Vera Black) was seeing things. I didn't finish the mini. Money problems.
