Yeah, it works when it's refreshed.
Hey there,
I just got back in Los Angeles this past week for a fundraiser in Hollywood that took place on Wednesday. I'm still getting caught up on recent developments, but I wanted to readdress the X-Men casting rumors that I hear are still bouncing around.
I am very close to a producer on the production, and I had asked to audition. With little expectation on my part, some people took me seriously and I met several key people involved with what could be an amazing movie. As it stands, I have not been cast in X-Men 3, and I am not anticipating that this will change.
I have been called back on a few occasions, but as far as I know the character that I was presented for does not appear in the latest version/variation of the script. And if this character does resurface, I am not not holding my breath on anything. I would expect a more seasoned actor being asked to take on the role.

Indeed. I don't mind much if he is refering to the Xavier rumor...but Gambit. I don't know if this can be handled.
It soooooooooooooo better not be gambit cause I am going to kick some ass down at fox.Cause if it is gambit,he was in the film untill that dick-head vaugh came along,so thay better be talking about a young xavier.

If Gambit isn't getting a Cameo in this one that means he will be played by a famous good actor and have a big role in the next one.... understand! When they have a Cameo like Colossus.... that takes away Colossus's part in the next movie... he will have a bigger part, but he wont be that involved in the story.

Keep in mind it was only a rumor at the time they had started their search for Angel,Maybe this was tryin out for Angel and ANGEL got bumped off the script. One of the producers is a Gambit fan and was pushing for him to be in this one,so consider this still the waiting game until Angel gets a confirmed role and someone is actually playing him. I still can't see why a majorly popular character would be cut so the lesser could be in. There's still hope. Avi Arad said either GAMBIT or ANGEL are in it,but "ha ha,I won't say anything cause it'll kill the mystery",get it? He knows the uproar the first 2 films caused cause the lack of the character. They *ALL* know...so I think he's just being a dick.
An insider from Cinescape or somethin said Scott Madej wasn't Gambit, but someone else was in talks for the role or somehtin.

I really won't cry if Gambit's not in it. The only people I know that are dying to have Gambit in it are people who only know the X-Men from the cartoon (aka the same people that want Jubilee). There are so many characters to choose from. I'd be fine with Gambit, but I'd be fine without him, too. I would rather have had a better Iceman, and I'm excited about Beast.

For I've always liked Gambit. Same with my friends, in whome the majority of them are NOT comic book fans but they're familar with the X-men franchise. I'm thinking that Mr. Madej is refering to Gambit, sadly. I hope not, but we'll see.
THe funny thing is that is that hard to give Gambit a brief cameo? It's weird..
And in terms of a rewrite, I think it's possible. Brett Ratner obviously wants to put his two cents into the screenplay, but the changes are probably going to minor (dialogue). But who knows, he might add Gambit in afterall.
We probably won't find out until the X-Men 3 script review on aintitcool.com

why are people still refering to this? he made it rather obvious that he's not going to be in this movie at least. So why is it still being talked about?
Also wasn't it already debunked that he was being thought of for young xavier, since young xavier was actually a character for the magneto solo movie, not for x3 anyway? So I'm certain it may anger the gambit-ites but it does appear that he will not be in this movie, no matter how much you want to change the color of the sky.

06-08-2005, 08:27 AM
it's just that though. there were also rumors that angel was going to be a girl. Also as stated in his response, it was a character that "was" in an initial script but isn't anymore. Another initial writeup rumor was that he was going to be in it for a very short cameo only, more to appease fans of the series than having a relevance to the plot. So as it stands now it seems unlikely gambit would be in it, as I'm pretty certain that fox would release that info especially in these rougher media times to appease the uproar of the fanboys if they had that type of news.
Seeing as this is likely going to be the last X film, I am just hoping they wrap it up well rather than just trying to toss in every character under the sun.

Ultimately, I think it came down to them having an idea to use Beast in the plot that they didn't have for Gambit. Yeah, it sucks but i could see why they wouldn't use him. Now Gambit will be the only popular X-man to NOT appear in one of the films :( (yep, it's true. It ain't like Bishop or Pyslocke are THAT popular).

Gambit's in. And the way Kinberg puts it I'd say it's not a Cameo, like a few shots,he's probably just a secondary character, but hey, that's good enough for me,and that opens the door that if there's an x4....count him in it bigger. Angel is also now confirmed. www.**************.com (http://www.**************.com) or www.xmenfilms.net (http://www.xmenfilms.net)

@diabolical: What do you mean by secondary role?
Probably along the lines of what Iceman was in X1,if it was a cameo,I think he woulda just up and said it,it's easier then dancing around a subject. His exact words are he isn't a MAJOR character. The same was said back in the day about Iceman and such for X2.I'll find that later and post it. He was a "secondary character" in x2,Colos was a cameo. There's a pretty big difference,cameo=sucks,2nd char=not as bad as it sounds. Besides nobody really expected him to play a huge role like Jean and such.

I just checked Madej's site and he posted this under his blog...
"Lastly, some of the emails have referred to X-Men. The role that I was up for was small, and as far as I know, it wasn't one the characters that I have seen associated with my name in recent weeks. Whether those other characters appear in the script or not is beyond me as I was not privy to the entire script. There were also two different scripts in consideration at the time I was being considered. Hopefully this settles that?"

Ok so i e-mailed Scott Madej recently and asked him well as it was nearer the time the movie will be released could you give us a hint on who you audition for. Not expecting a response... he replyed back.
It was gambit he auditioned for. But looks like they recast wonder if it was Josh Holloway?

His e-mail did quote the following.
Hi James
Yes, I read and did screen testing around this time last year. The role was
Gambit. I believe it was recast, and eventually cut from the script. I'm
currently attached to a few other projects at the moment, so look out for those.
Thanks for writing )

I'm begining to think that is possible as well. I do not hate the producers and people involved with making the movie as much now. They obviously tried to get him in there but it didn't work out. Still feeling a little bitter about the whole thing, especially since for about 99% of the mutant population it did work out. :(

He didn't really look like Gambit anyway. Plus he was TOO much of an unknown. I mean, an 'unknown' would be great...but an 'unknown' who's played small roles in a list of some reasonable movies...this guy doesn't even have an IMDB page.
My guess is that Gambit's role would've been the equivilant of someone like Quills or Multipleman. A role where you'd probably see him standing behind Magneto for 5 minutes and get his ass kicked in the 3rd act.
I would ahve accepted that, after six yrs of waiting for him.
Feyd Rautha

Nah, not for me. Gambit can provide a much deeper story than being a background Brotherhood member. It'd be a huge waste if you ask me.
I know 6+ years is a big patience-tester for Gambit fans, but I'd rather see an X4 (or Gen X) movie where he'll have a much more flavoured role.
I saw the email a while ago on Countingdown. I'm sure Gambit will be in X4, definitely, if there is one. Not sure about Scott Madej playing Gambit, though. His face looks...I don't know.
Arad told it a a time they wanted to cast a Gambit (he said that they wanted a major name , for an X4)

Holloways said that they pursued him..

Seriously, Gambit is a pretty complex character. You play him too arrogant, he'll come off like a smug bastard. You play him too soft, he'll look like a wimp. It will be extremely hard to find an actor to really do the character justice, and I sorta understand why Fox wants to stay away from that. Think about it.. we have been waiting a heck of a long time. We will not accept anything short of perfection! :)
