Good thinking, Lara. :)
I'm wondering if Tom's role in CBTD2 will be really reduced since his time between The Fog and starting up on SV again is so short? It would be nice if the guy was able to squeeze in a little R&R time too.

I thought about that too. There's no way they could make his part very significant considering Smallville is scheduled to start back to work early July. I don't see how they can maneuver it unless they push back the series start date. Honestly, I wouldn't want to do it. I used to teach and that summer vacation was necessary to refuel my brain cells. I wasn't even "on the job" for 16 hours a day. Not saying I didn't work (hey I'm a mom), but there is a difference to dealing with adolescents all day and hanging from wires and pretending to be a superhero all day. Then again........
Cheers!http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I tried to figure out how to split the post and failed miserably. Need to go back to message board 101. O' I'm drinking some nasty guiness my hubby had in the fridge. I'm an insomniac tonight.

...Shoot: June 13 – Sept. 2/05Well, unless they do a lot of Welling's scenes first, his role will probably be like it was in the first film. In a way it makes sense though. There ARE 12 kids in that family to divide screen time among. LOL
Unless the sked has changed, SV starts back up around the 2nd week of July. (ish).

Ok, I know this is politically incorrect, but I couldn't be happier that Tom now is The Fog, CBTD2 and season 5 of Smallville. Tommy overload! Woot! I know the poor boy will be exhausted, but as a huge fan, he's giving us the mother load! (Makes up for last year when he dropped off the face of the earth.)

I just remembered.. what about promo appearances? I hope he has time to still make the circuit of those. I mean, how many times can we watch those same appearances over and over from past years. (Okay.. lots. ;))
I'd *love*to see him appear on Ellen, she's hysterical.

I've been wanting to write her show for ages to get him to appear. Seems natural since they are both produced by Warner Bros. My daughter loves her and keeps trying to figure out a way to get herself on the show. (She's 7). I think he would have a great time on it and she doesn't usually ask really personal questions so he wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. I just want to see some new live interviews. The guy definitely keeps to himself.http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Well, unless he can some work on weekends like he did on the start of The Fog... what a hassle, but they'll probably do what they can to work around his sked.
I don't see SV pushing back their start date, however. Their sked is much tighter than a feature's would be....

Actually, the local teamsters union (http://www.teamsters155.org/WebDocuments/rptProdACtiveList.pdf) site has the production starting on Monday, July 11th.
FYI
That doesn't give him much time to fit in shooting for CBTD 2...
Also, I saw Hilary Duff on Leno last night and the only reason I watched her inanity was because I was hoping she would mention filming in Toronto or working on the film.
No such luck and she was truly painful to watch... a more empty headed actress I don't think I've ever seen, although Gillian Anderson and Katie Holmes are both up there.... ;)
Actually, that list is very interesting... Like they have listings for Scary Movie IV, Dr. Doolittle 3 and Like Mike 2 and all I have to ask myself is why?
Why?

I have a WMV version thats lower quality if anyone needs that format --I rarely use my video capture, so I'm sure I can figure a way to get the wmv higher quality

I watched the Insider piece also, and the what I found interesting was that Carmen Electra is also starring in CBTD2. Isn't she also in her 20s? If so, is she the new love interest for Tom's "Charlie?" I don't see her as the mother of the "other family" the Bakers have trouble with in the film.

Hey, there are sneaks of The Island this weekend (I heard that on the radio this morning) if it's true that the trailer will be in front of that film maybe it will be for the sneak previews too.
Just an FYI....
If anyone has a chance to see the sneak, let us know if it's in front of the film and where...
I'd be interested in knowing if it was the last one shown before the film starts, which would mean it's "attached" to the film.
I think that would be great news.
EDIT: Several films bowing the same day as the Fog already have trailers out...

Coming Soon has posted a 21 minute long audio clip recorded at The Fog presentation at ComicCon today. Here's a snip, which begins at the 11:50 mark...
Reporter:
How about Tom Welling. Why did you cast him?
Wainwright:
One of the things about Tom that suits his role so well is that he's just this sort of great all-American guy who is just charming, great actor, he's got a lot of... you want to hang out with him. What's interesting about his role - it's very different really than the Tom Atkins role, for a couple of obvious physical reasons... you have to really see the movie, but obviously their relationship [Welling and Grace's characters] is more complex than the hitchhiker - they're old boyfriend girlfriend. She left town without letting him know, she moved to New York, and he's freaked out about that. And he's been kind of pining for her and is really upset and when he sees her again, she's come back without telling him, so he's kinda freaked out that she disappeared without telling him, she's came back without telling him, what's going on? And she's almost...
Grace interrupts:
There's a past that can have sexual tension...
Wainwright:
Yeah! [laughter] So there's a lot of great things going on between them.
LMAO!! :D

I downloaded it last night, but have been too lazy to listen to it, lol...is there anything else interesting in the interview? The part I transcribed is the only part of the interview that mentioned Welling and his character. There were a lot of questions about the horror aspects - how scary would the film be, amount of gore, comparisons to the first pic, etc. etc. They talked about Grace's character (and made it seem almost like the film revolved around her? ), and there was some discussion of Carpenter's involvement and Wainwright's friendship with Debra Hill. All in all, a good interview, but I wish Tom had been there. Yeah, I know, duh! :(

Although most had to do with writing for games or comics, writing is writing. I would have loved to have gone to some of those.

Well, the latest scuttlebutt is that The Fog's trailer (which was apparently shown at ComicCon, btw) is going out with The Island.
Wow! Not too shabby. That's a pretty big film to attach a horror movie trailer to, but I'm not complaining.
The info was posted over at IMDb. Take it with a grain of salt though. Guess we'll find out for sure this Friday. I'm not going to rush to the theater, but I was definitely planning on seeing The Island anyway. Bonus! LOL I hope the rumor is true. :)

From FilmForce IGN:
Comic-Con 2005: The Fog Panel
The remake of the John Carpenter classic.
July 18, 2005 - Among the films highlighted Saturday during Sony's Comic-Con presentation was the forthcoming remake of The Fog, based on the 1980 cult classic helmed by John Carpenter. Director Rupert Wainwright and co-star Maggie Grace (Lost) were the only guests in attendance, as leading man Tom Welling was on location filming another project.
The panel began with the debut of the creepy new trailer for The Fog wherein the citizens of Antonio Bay are terrorized by the eerie, deadly fog that comes out at night. The protagonists are the young couple of Welling and Grace. The fog, as it turns out, harbors something else, something sentient that is killing off the townsfolk for some reason.
Wainwright spoke about his respect for Carpenter as a director, and expressed his gratitude that Carpenter was "gracious" enough not to "tread on another director's toes."
Grace proclaimed Carpenter's film "the Holy Grail to so many horror filmmakers," and said she was interested in the part because it was so different from her role on the hit show Lost. Oh, yeah, and because she gets a shower scene with Tom Welling. (Yes, she really said that.)
*** ROFLMFAO ***
Wainwright revealed that, unlike Carpenter's version, his film will delve into the town's past and explores questions the first film brought up. The Fog rolls back in October 14th.

Here's a little bit more from comingsoon.net, I post just the part relevant to The Fog:
The director of the upcoming remake of Carpenter's The Fog, Rupert Wainwright came out along with the movie's star Maggie Grace, who is best known for playing Shannon on the ABC drama Lost. Wainwright started out by giving the audience a sneak peek at the new trailer for The Fog (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=7124), which will debut next weekend. Basically, it set up the premise for the movie, which is about a fog that sweeps over an island, killing people in its wake, and it showed a few scenes of Grace with her co-star Tom "Smallville" Welling, and a scene of the movie's co-star Selma Blair in peril. The audience applauded madly after seeing it.
Wainwright, who made his name directing videos for the likes of Michael Jackson and M.C. Hammer before taking on horror with the 1999 thriller Stigmata, thought that producer John Carpenter was more nervous about this remake even then he was. "I was kind of surprised when I went for the interview at the studio that John wasn't there," he said, adding that co-producer David Foster said that John didn't want to impose his own vision on the movie despite having written, directed and scored the original. "John's a genius at making horror movies, but he's also very respectful of other people's space." Grace said that having a shower scene with Tom Welling was something she considered when choosing to do the movie. Wainwright said that the best reason to do this remake was to answer some of the questions that arose from the original movie, and he said that the movie would delve into the past in order to do so.
I guess the rumor of the trailer being attached to The Island might be true...

But from what Scarlett said over on DTS, not everyone is seeing it with The Island. It wasn't the attached trailer, so I'm not surprised so it might not be in front of that film for everyone.

But from what Scarlett said over on DTS, not everyone is seeing it with The Island. It wasn't the attached trailer, so I'm not surprised so it might not be in front of that film for everyone.
It was the only horror trailer, however, in front of that. The rest were mostly thrillers...
:D
It was so freakin' cool...
Awesome! As is that pic above. I'll be seeing the Island on Tuesday, so I'll let you know if it showing here in California.

Just so you know, I saw The Island tonight (kick-ass film, great car chases) and the trailer for The Fog was in front of it.
It was cool seeing it big screen, it's the exact same thing you've all seen, but what a treat seeing it so big.
It looks like it will be a beautifully shot film.
Triplet, I'm curious if the audience reacted at all during the trailer.

I was too into watching it to pay attention but I think I overheard some people say they thought it looked good after it was over... There was definitely some murmering right after it was over, I just couldn't hear what people were saying.
I'm seeing The Island again on Friday, so maybe I'll be able to pay better attention.
Just Triplet squealing and hooting at the top of her lungs.

LOL!
Not quite.
I think I confined myself to a couple of kinda loud "Cool's" but I think even that got some looks from the two popcorn-inhaling, soda slurping neanderthals sitting to my right... ;)
I might have been more vocal if I hadn't been by myself... ;)

I went to see the Island today, very gripping movie if anybody is into action and twists. The Fog was the second trailer to be shown, and it gave me the chills watching it. Cant wait to see it!
Just on a side, they also showed a Nic Cage movie that was coming soon. As I watching it, I thought that guy always seems to come across the same no matter what movie he is playing in. Its like the only character that he can act is Nic Cage. Sure glad he wasnt given the Superman role.
TW on the big screen tho, awesome. And he was featured just as much as the two females in the trailer.

I think you guys are stressing over nuthin'. CBtD2 isn't an overly complex film to post. Compare it to a film like War of the Worlds. You know, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg? Yeah, that one - the one with over 1000 effects shots. The film went from greenlight to premiere in less than a year. It lensed for four months between November 7, 2004 and March 7, 2005, had less than four months of post (ouch!) and OPENED in theaters (in the US) on July 4, 2005.
So don't sweat it. CBtD2 is general family fare - I don't see it shooting for Oscar attention. I'm sure it'll be just peachy and deliver *exactly* what folks would expect: 2 hours of mindless entertainment. LOL

Which begs a good point: Of all the things that a studio could want from the actors it cast, bankability is numero uno. I understand wanting to have a good script and fine performance, but the studio is content enough to just make a boatload of money. When they find actors who can guarantee big opening weekends and double production budget returns, they turn into happy clams on a mudflat. By January '06, I'd be willing to bet Tom's gonna be three for three, and that's pretty damn good for a n00b, so I'm sure it'll open even more doors for him. ;)

And of course it's smart on his part. He's far more likely to give big returns on movies that cost roughly 20 and 40 million dollars respectively, than he was ever likely to on a movie that is probably going to cost 200+ ...

I think she's great.... I wasn't too impressed with her initially but I think she was underutilized early on in Lost.
She was brilliant when her oily step-brother, played by the equally oily Ian Somerhalder, was killed off toward the end of last season.
Shannon's grief and guilt were devastating, she's a far better actress than I had thought... Hopefully she'll be used more this season now that IS is out of the picture...

I'm worried about the second season, actually. I think they did fine keeping up the suspense but they had some major revelations at the end of the season, but also some killer cliff-hangers.
I dunno, I will probably watch it, ain't crap on Wednesdays at 8pm (9pm for your Right and Left Coasters) that I watch, except for West Wing. I can tivo two shows, so it's no worries for me... If it tanks, I will probably stop watching it...
I love Matthew Fox and Josh Halloway, and there's spoilers a major male cast member will die if it's either one of them, I will stop watching. They're the main reasons I watch, they're both hot as hell and Josh has that burly bad boy thing going on that I like so much... ;)
And Matthew Fox is an ex-male model, so he has that drop dead gorgeous, model turned actor thing that I also have lately become very fond of... ;) (See my sig.. :D )

Okay, I'm like spamming but here's a unbiased site's take on the trailer:
OK, I'm intrigued
The Fog
I hate to say it, but I actually kind of liked this trailer. I'm not usually a very big fan of horror movies, but this preview casts the picture as an atmospheric horror film, rather than a more typical slasher film filled with cheap scares. Of course, it's not all that surprising that this movie would sell itself as atmospheric, since that is exactly how the original The Fog, released 25 years ago, garnered its cult status. Certainly, this is a remake that seems to prefer not to stray very far from its lineage. The young, good-looking cast – which includes Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, and Selma Blair – is culled primarily from popular television series, and in that sense, reminds me of a movie like I Know What You Did Last Summer. It would seem that the film's producers are relying on the draw of their cast, as well as this genuinely creepy trailer, to lead the movie to financial success, rather than appealing to those who might have enjoyed the original. I don't necessarily think this is all that bad a strategy, especially after being pleasantly surprised by this clip.

It'd be like asking why do they make him wear plaid (as Clark) if you happen not to like plaid. Well duh, it's wardrobe. It's just part of the character's "costume." Is "Henley" the designer of that Fog shirt? I never heard the term before, but it "looks" right for a seaport town LOL.
The only minor problem is that he already has such a long neck, and the cut of it makes him look like a giraffe. He DOES have a long neck, though I think it's proportional for his height.

For those of you wondering how much the comic has to do with the movie:
NRAMA: What were the biggest challenges of writing this story? The biggest rewards?
SA: The biggest challenge was to let the events of the film remain totally singular, yet create a back-story that was essential to the movie story. The film is about a sort of a haunting that has no precedent for the characters or the location… so Tom Welling’s character and Maggie Grace’s character have never had any supernatural experiences, nothing worth doing in a comics story.
Their town has never been through anything like this – this haunting. So creating a premise in which similar elements of a haunting—though not identical, or we’d be quoting—similar elements would take place, but in a different location, to different characters was a challenge.
But the real trick was making those elements intimately related to the film, to what does happen to Welling and Grace’s characters. We wanted the comic to be a totally independent story, which you could read and understand without the film, which we’ve done—but we also wanted it to influence and affect the events of the film. We do borrow two pivotal characters from the film as our two main characters, but then we introduce half a dozen others. We introduce elements that don’t remotely appear in the film—the Shanghai traders and the refugee from the Civil War that are mentioned in the promotional material for the comic.
The biggest reward was being able to tell a story with a very funky, very old-fashioned sense of horror, and not be restrained by a hero who must come out on top in the end, not have to build in that scene where the hero fights the monster and reassures the audience that nothing bad can really happen. This is a classic horror story, but not even in the tradition of the EC Comics. This goes further back, while drawing on some of the modern stuff the new film draws upon. And I’m fascinated with the years following the Civil War in America, and the back-story to the film just happens to fall in those Restoration years.
The rest of the interview is here:

A henley is a type of shirt, not a designer. It's basically a long sleeve t-shirt with a button up front, well... like what he's wearing in the new photo. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Well I didnt want to sound like an idiot and ask the question, so I'm glad someone else did. I call those shirts "long sleeve T-shirts".;)

Is "Henley" the designer of that Fog shirt? I never heard the term before, but it "looks" right for a seaport town LOL.Trip answered in part, but here I am for the encore. ;)
Henley refers to the style of collar as far as I'm aware, and I think it can actually have long or short sleeves. And it fits very nicely with a seaport town, because it was named after the British town of Henley, which hosts an annual international regatta. Not heard of the Henley Regatta? Do a Google search. :p

Well you are the source for all things Henley.
No wonder I've never heard about it, I dont follow the regatta circuit too much, in fact not at all.
But yet, the shirt does fit in with the seaside town and it still makes him look yummy.

And to all my fellow American posters out there, I can say that cause I live here and love it to death. :D

Well, I believe here a "henley" is a long sleeved variety, but I could be wrong... often am.

I did not know that, I'll tuck that little bit of trivia away for future use... :D
It is very nautical, but I'm not sure it's a good choice for a guy like Nick to be honest. It's more of a spoiled rotten brat ivy league look nowadays...
My nephew is fond of Henleys but you know what? He's a spoiled rotten brat ivy leaguer so that might be where I've gotten that impression those types like Henleys... :p
But who cares whether it's a good choice for the character when Tom looks so goddamn good in it?
Not me, certainly... ;)

Well, I believe here a "henley" is a long sleeved variety, but I could be wrong... often am.I'm not certain about that part, but I'm fairly sure the name corresponds to the style/cut of the shoulders and collar, not the sleeves. A Henley (at least a "real" one) has a button-up collar with a low, round neck, and no lapels. The length of sleeve doesn't really make much difference to the neckline.

As far as I'm aware, in the States a "henley" is a long sleeve t-shirt with a four or five button placket in the front. In any case, I've never heard of anyone calling the short sleeve variety a "henley"... Whenever I've heard the term, it's only be in reference to the long sleeve type.
But you know, it's been awhile since I've gotten any LL Bean catalogues so I don't know what they call the short sleeve variety for sure.

Well, I was thinking Nick is less a boating type and more a working man type, who don't usually wear henleys (at least, not that I've seen)...

I've only known Henleys to be as you described above. I'm not familiar with a short-sleeve version. And I do think it's a fairly common working on a boat kinda shirt.
Now that we've defined Henleys.. I think Pat made the most important point, he doesn't actually need any shirt, regardless of style. :)

FYI:
I saw Red Eye tonight and the trailer for The Fog was in front of it.
No guarentee it will be in front of it everywhere, going from the spotty coverage with The Island, but you never know. The film was great, btw. Rachel McAdams was beautiful and terrific and Cillian Murphy was way creepy and intense.
I highly recommend it.

Oh yeah.. Red Eye was good too. ;)
What was fan reaction to the Fog trailer? Since Red Eye was the #2 film, I'm just curious. I was expecting the Fog trailer to be a little cheesy, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it.

There was a lot of talking toward the end of it and even some laughter, I wasn't sure what to think of that but James thought it was a good sign.
The only other horrors that were previewed were the Cave and some Mars/Genetic experiments gone awry thing with The Rock... those two weren't as loudly recieved, I don't think. Especially The Rock one.. that film just looks dumb, so i think again that is a good sign.
And the theatre was filled with the target audience: teen girls. Most of the audience was teen girls, in fact.
There were a few couples and a couple of small groups of guys and one or two old farts like me, but mostly teen girls...
I think they liked it. There was a group of them right in front of me that chattered excitedly right after the trailer ended...

My son and I went to see "March of the Penguins" over the weekend and one of the trailers they previewed was for a remake of "Yours, Mine and Ours", a movie that will be a direct competitor for Cheaper By The Dozen 2. Both films with a release date around Christmas. The preview was with Dennis Quaid and Renee Russo, both opposites in everything, meeting eachother, falling in love and bringing their families together. The kids were battling, there was lots of slapstick falling down comedy, and the set for the house looked to be identical to the one for the Bakers in Cheaper By the Dozen. I wonder now which comedy will have more of a draw, which actors have more of a pull over audiences. We shall see.

I wouldn't worry, Cheaper has a better cast, and is a sequel with a built in audience. I guess we'll have to see if either movie moves their release date.
