I've seen separate threads for the casting of individual villains and/or villains who haven't been used in the prior Batman films, but how about a thread where we list any and every villain and who you'd like to see play them in one thread... Assuming this Bat-franchise goes on as long as the Bond series, cast any villain you'd like from A-list villains such as the Joker and Two-Face to obscure villains such as Abbatoir and Steeljacket.

Here's my ideal cast for future Bat-villains...

I've never thought of Jason Lee as the Joker. I think that could work.

Strong disagreement with Pressley. I thought we wanted actors, not B-movie late-night Cinemax poptarts. Better off with a Blaylock

Still think Liev Schreiber for Dent. But thinks Pierce is great.

Doesn't Paul Giamatti look more like Gear head in that pic?

And I'll have to go against everyone's easy choice for Catwoman. Still believe she'll be passed over.

I Officially declare this the 99,000,000,000th "Cast all the villains" thread. It's about the fifth to have a picture comparison thing in the first post.

I'll do mine in the morning.

Strong disagreement with Pressley. I thought we wanted actors, not B-movie late-night Cinemax poptarts. Better off with a Blaylock

Jaime Pressly is more than a B-movie late-night Cinemax poptart. She has talent, and the role of Poison Ivy does not require someone of Julia Roberts calibur; just an actress with a beautiful bod/face who knows how to make the male audience members begin to sweat under their collars (which Pressly has down). Her face (the chin-line, the eyes, etc.) IS Poison Ivy, and her body is flawless. True, she has been in some pretty lame (late-night) movies/TV shows, but this could be her moment to shine. I am confident that she would nail the part if she were to get it.

Thanks to those who complimented my casting ideas; I have a few more I'll be posting soon.

i'm going with Cole Hauser as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. he looks a little more aggressive (like he could snap on you) than Liev Schrieber; stronger chin. he's also about the same age as Bale and has the raspy voice from the cartoon.http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/1007/Events/1007/mcg2?path=pgallery&path_key=Hauser,%20Cole

JOKER: Crispin Glover (probably the only one who could POSSIBLY top Nicholson's performance)

HARVEY DENT/TW0-FACE: Liev Schreiber (was my pick LONG before his name began popping up in sequel talks of late)

EDWARD NYGMA/RIDDLER: Hugo Weaving (originally had Edward Norton as my choice, but Weaving has since grown on me; either one's fine with me though)

SELINA KYLE/CATWOMAN: Angelina Jolie (a virtual NO-BRAINER here, lol)

JERVIS TETCH/MAD HATTER: Martin Short (looking like the actual character is scary enough)

PAMELA ISLEY/POISON IVY: Julianne Moore (in Nolan's take on the Batman franchise, she'd definitely be my pick)

KILLER CROC: Bill Goldberg (much as I like Vin Diesel, he doesn't quite have the size of someone physically able to look DOWN on Bale's Batman)

OSWALD COBBLEPOT/PENGUIN: Bob Hoskins (Suchet is much too "Poirot" for my tastes)

TALIA AL GHUL: Kate Beckinsale (5 years ago I would've picked Catherine Zeta-Jones in a HEARTBEAT; Maestro gets an honorable mention as well)

BANE: Batista (of WWE fame; doesn't he just LOOK like the very same character after he gets that "venom" stuff pumpin' through his system?!?!?! LOL)

VICTOR FRIES/MR. FREEZE: Daniel Day-Lewis (why not, he's an actor's actor anyway; 10 years ago Patrick Stewart would've CLEANED UP in this role! DAMN YOU, SCHUMACHER!!!!!!)

Slipping_Halo

Joker - Vincent Gallo

Catwoman - Angelina Jolie (No contest)

The Riddler - Edward Norton (A cerebral, non-Joker rip-off Riddler, btw)

The Mad Hatter - Johnny Depp (Just look at him as Willy Wonka)

Mr. Freeze - Ben Kingsley (great pic, Salemdog)

Talia Al Ghul - Kate Beckinsale is almost a shoe-in anyway. She knows Bale from Laurel Canyon, great actress, not too huge, stunningly beautiful.

Other thoughts:

Bane - An ACTOR please. The wrestler thing didn't quite work out last time.

Two-Face - You've got me. I don't think it should be Cotton from Scream though.

The Penguin - Danny DeVito was actually very good despite the crap movie, but someone like that....

Poison Ivy - Lets try a natural redhead who also isn't Uma Thurman. Ugh...

For Joker, either Johnny Depp or Jim Carrey.(Yeah I know he was the Riddler, but it's still a good idea.)

Riddler- Bruce Campbell

Joker: (my choice changes on a daily basis. There are a lot of good options)
Two-Face: Guy Pearce (My top choice. He's worked with Nolan and played a two-face in Count of Monte Cristo)
Catwoman: Angelina Jolie (She's an inch off Catwoman's height and a good actress)
Penguin: David Suchet (another perfect casting. A fan favorite and good actor. Kinda looks like him too)
Riddler: (same with Joker. A lot of good options)
Mad Hatter: Martin Short (looks like him and can play insane)
Mr. Freeze: Ben Kingsley (Great actor. It's time he did another good movie)
Talia: Kate Beckinsale (perfect choice IMO)

I've refined my choices:

The Joker: I like Vincent Gallo, but Crispin Glover looks definitely the part and can probably kick ass.

Harley Quinn: Brittany Murphy is bonkers enough, I guess. Though I really like Fairuza Balk. She's already pale so they'd save on make up.

Catwoman: Angelina Jolie. Nobody compares. She's the comic brought to life. Sexy as all hell, long legs, beautiful cat-like eyes, but a scary first date. That's Catwoman to me.

The Penguin: I'm not sure about any of these, but Bob Hodgekins is looking pretty good.

The Mad Hatter: Johnny Depp I KNOW would be amazing, but Martin Short is just too good.

The Riddler: Hands down, Edward Norton. Absolutely no contest.

Mr. Freeze: MALCOVICH!! Kingsley's good though.

Two-Face: Definitely NOT ****ing Cotton Weary from Scream. Guy Pierce is fantastic. His doing Memento with Nolan puts him close before there's even talks about it.

Talia Al Ghul: Kate Beckinsale. Gorgeous, mysterious beauty. Also has done a movie with Bale before, so she's connected already.

Poison Ivy: NONE of you guys' picks have made me happy. I can't think of anybody either though. She needs to be the sexiest thing anybody's ever laid eyes on, a lot of the girls you all picked are pretty or cute but not what's needed. She also needs to be a redhead.

Oh, and NO WRESTLERS FOR BANE. Haven't we learned our lesson? I hate to speak ill of the dead, but that guy sucked and it wasn't just because of the script. No self-respecting human being would break through a wall and say "EXIT!" like that unless they didn't see anything wrong with it. Ugh...that memory won't go away now.

Another thing. Vin Diesel should NEVER, EVER, set foot 100 miles from this movie or any other for that matter. EVER.

And American_Idiot, I disagree. I think Depp could probably pull off the females pretty well too.

ok first off clayface would ruin the whole realism side that nolan put in the movie..which by the way makes it so much better then the last 4..i wanna see ralph fines, liev shalfghaf (what ever his last name is) or the guy who used to play jag on the show jag

and i would love to see the blackmask as a new mob boss maybe taking over falcone's empire but not have the mask be permenant..just a black kobuki mask something freaky yet subtle we dont want any forever or batman and robin style costumes..were going for realism..but with escelation more and more nut cases r going to be doing there own personas

This thread has some really inspired casting, and some that just don't sit well with me. The thing is, there's already been an amazing cast assembled, and they're all talented actors, with maybe the exception of Holmes, though she did just fine.

What they have done is proven that multiple villains can work together, but not in the overly-campy "Hey, we all hate Batman, so let's fight him together! Huzzah!" kind of way that Schumacher loved so very, very much.

There's no doubt in my mind that Martin Short is the Mad Hatter, but I really don't want to see him. Although I have no doubt Nolan and Goyer could pull it off, I can't see him translating as any more than a pseudo-replacement for the Scarecrow.

Christopher Lloyd would fit well with the cast already in place, and he really needs to pull himself out of the chasm that he's dug for himself lately (read: Stacked). He would be a terrific choice for the icy persona of Fries, but there's something really itching me to see him as the meticulously timed Clock King, including that Clockstoppers-like device he had in his second TAS appearance. It's just far-fetched enough to provide an interesting hyper-reality to the films.

I could see the Ventriloquist and Scarface as one of many people to fill in the vaccuum that Falcone was sure to have left. Rick Moranis, for anyone who's seen Little Shop of Horrors, is as great a casting as I could hope to see. Not sure who would be Scarface, though I like the idea of Kevin Pollack. The Ventriloquist would be another person that would fit well into the "altered perception of the world" category, like Scarecrow. I can see them doing a very Calvin and Hobbes-like trick with this. Everyone else sees Moranis holding a puppet. Moranis sees a living, breathing entity parading around him, and talking only through him. It would make for a great cinematic end to have Scarface be destroyed, leaving Moranis alone for the first time. It could actually make you feel bad for the Ventriloquist at the same time you felt justice was served with the destruction of Scarface.

I would rather not see Penguin as the drooling monster he was in Burton's movie, not that DeVito wasn't great, and that it wasn't an amazing movie, but we've seen that before. My choice would definitely be Bob Hoskins. After seeing Unleashed, it's hard to see him as Mario anymore, and anyone who's seen that Don Quixote movie they made a while back knows he's got the acting chops to pull it off.

As for Hugo Weaving and/or Willem Dafoe. I'd really like to see either of them in this, though I'm leaning more towards Hugo. He's just a great dramatic actor. I could see him as either the Riddler, or Fries. Either choice would make me ecstatic.

Joker, I could see Jason Lee doing him, I could see Crispin Glover doing him, I could even see Hamill doing him, but there's no point in fighting over who he's going to be. Nolan and Goyer have not let me down so far, and I doubt they'd set all this up so meticulously only to be a big letdown. We're going to get a top-notch. Joker-worthy performance no matter who they choose.

^^^wow, that is sucha good idea for ventroliquist, might even make it interesting although no way is he a top villain, he should be around the lines of Zasz in the new one except with lines. Maybe see him in session with Quin or see him caught by batman in the begining of one of the movies or maybe just joker's cellmate

Nice ideas Oniwago.

Try imagining Christopher Lloyd as Cornelius Stirk. He has the look; we've all seen how creepy he can be in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and how digusting he can be in Dennis the Menace; take away the humor and you have Stirk.

I have thought about Harvey Dent(and Two-Face) and Joker the most, since David Goyer would apparently put them in his sequels. For the Joker, I have most often thought of The Killing Joke, and considered Crispin Glover. However, recent posts about his voice quivering(which are probably right) made me rethink my choice. Now, I think that Tim Roth would be good, and better than Jason Lee. Also, Harley Quinn is a great character, and I think that Natalie Portman would be awesome. I don't think she'd have to grow her hair out first. I saw a picture of her from V for Vendetta with a shaved head. It shouldn't be a problem, since most of the time her head is covered, and in her 'origin', she could just wear a wig. Or not, it wouldn't matter either way.

Harvey Dent(and Two-Face in movie 3) would ideally be cast as Liev Schreiber. Now, I don't know if there are talks with him going on, or anything, but I've had this opinion ever since I read Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. Dent is a man who believes in the law for the most part, but his 'other side' is more than willing to cross the line. I believe that, after seeing the Manchurian Candidate, Schreiber would play the Gotham DA perfectly.

As for other villains, I think that Hugo Weaving would be a great Riddler. I would think that though Hugo is older, his voice would match the character better than Guy Pearce's would.

Mr. Freeze shouldn't be just anyone-older-with-a-shaved-head, like Kingsley, Malkovich, or Stewart. We have to believe that he was once a scientist, and he has to have the look of a tortured soul because of his wife, and his body. Therefore, I think Ralph Feinnes(uh, spelled right? The guy from Red Dragon) would take the cake. Just because Mr. Freeze is bald doesn't make him old, though many people have a tendency to draw him that way.

And Selina Kyle. Boy, Angelina Jolie would do good, but I think Rebecca Romijn would do equally as well. Plus, I think that she'd be more willing than Angelina after the X-MEN films and the Punisher. I also think that she's a better actress, but that's just me.

There's just many many people I'd rather see cast as the Joker. Eric Roberts would be just above Christian Slater at slot 75 or so on a list of the 100 People Who Could Play Joker.

True, Ralph could do it, and I'm sure he'd do a fine job; it's just that Patrick Stewart encompasses everything I've come to love about the character. He has the look and looks the age of Freeze in both the comics and TAS, his voice is reminiscentof TAS Freeze and is how I picture his voice sounding when I read his dialogue in comics, and could convincingly play a brilliant scientist.

Nathan Jones look more like Killa Croc to me; or he would if he had a lot of fake scales on his body.

Cole Hauser for Harvey Dent (Fiennes has already played a disfigured psycho in Red Dragon and Pearce's frame is too small to make him a believable physical threat to Bale)

and, if Vince Cassel doesn't get the nod to play the Joker, then i'd like to nominate him for the Riddler spot. hopefully, the character would be a little bit more cerebral but still creepy in this new Batman series.

Great thread. I might as well stick in my two cents.

Joker: Well, I dunno. I don't really like anybody who's been mentioned.

Two-Face: Undecided. Guy Pearce - He's in the top because of an existing relationship with Nolan and he does have the acting chops to pull it off. Johnny Depp - A personal favorite of mine. After seeing his invention of Jack Sparrow and reinvention of Willy Wonka, he's just a proven character actor.

Every other character would be in cameo or reserved for later movies. Some are just pointless to mention because they clash with the direction in which WB is taking the franchise.

Catwoman: Angelina Jolie - No contest. Hotter than Hell, great actress, and she can certainly kick ass on screen.

Mad Hatter: Martin Short - He owns this role. It was almost as if God read a Batman comic and said, "you know, I wanna make a guy just for that character."

Penguin: Paul Giamotti - David Suchet and Bob Hoskins are interesting, but I think Paul fits the role a little better. Of course, I'm using TAS's Penguin as my template. I think the concept of the sweet, well-mannered man with a short temper is the way to go for Penguin, and I see Paul Giamotti nailing that.

Ventriloquist: Undecided. Austin Pendelton - He has a perfect, semi-whiney, pathetic-sounding voice to pull the role off. His cameo in My Cousin Vinny still kicks my ass whenever I see it. Great stuff. Rick Morranis - Rick could make this role his. I think he could do something unexpected and original with it, but still keep the essence of the character.

A note about Ventriloquist: I think he'd be a good replacement for Falcone. I know some would want another mob boss, but I'd like to see Ventriloquist. There's a lot that can be done with him in a short amount of time to give him depth and make audiences realize he's not just some random boss. Plus, I'd like to see Gotham presented, as much as possible, as a city full of potential Arkham residents.

Ok, that's it for now.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Riddler. I had been leaning toward Jude Law, but the mention of Hugo Weaving sent my brain into a tizzy. Either one would be perfect; they're both my top choice.

I love all the casting calls for the villians but if Nolan is going to do this right he needs to make sure he has a Harley Quinn along with the Joker. Also I think that if he wants to setup for a possible third movie by going ahead and picking out his Two-Face. Go ahead and introduce a young Harvey Dent, the bright DA attorney, and towards the end show the incident in the court room with Boss Maroni. Hopefully somewhere in the storyline they bring back Cillian Murphy. I believe he is the only person nobody is talking about. Along with M.Freeman, they stole the show.:hq:

Wow, so many good choices it's hard to pick which i like the most. Here's what i think:

THE JOKER: Mark Hamill.
He has the voice, no question about that, and if he lost a little weight he could gain the look.

Someone in another thread made these and it's obvious Hamill could play a really creepy Joker. If not him, i'd have to go with maybe Tim Roth.

TWO-FACE: Liev Schrieber or Guy Pearce

CATWOMAN: Angelina Jolie
Without a doubt Jolie. She's hot and she kicks ass. Someone earlier mentioned Eliza Dushku and i remember a while back she was rumored to be in talks to play Black Cat in Spider-Man 3. If Jolie doesn't do catwoman, i wouldn't mind seeing Dushku fill that role instead.

THE RIDDLER: Hugo Weaving or Edward Norton
Two of my favorite actors, they would both be great as The Riddler. Mr. Anders... i mean Batman!

HARLEY QUINN: Brittany Murphy:hq:

PENGUIN: Bob Hoskins

MR. FREEZE: Ben Kingsley

MAD HATTER: Martin Short

:unishr: You know, over the last day or so, I've been thinking about my post about the Riddler. If they were to have him at any point in the franchise, I said that Hugo Weaving would be perfect, and that Guy Pearce would be a close second. I've changed my mind. When I think of the Riddler, it reminds me of Batman: Hush, so although Hugo Weaving would be good, he's a little too old, and I think he's to big for a guy who's physically no real threat to Batman(not that combat skilled, right?). I think that Guy Pearce would be bettar, since he's younger, and I think that he's good as that very intellegent man who get's a little lost in thought( after watching the Time Machine again).

Also, if you don't know, here's how David Goyer would write the rest of his Batman Begins Trilogy. In sequel 1, Batman would get helpfrom Gordon and the Gotham DA Harvey Dent to take down the Joker. In the end of the film, he'd be caught, but not killed like he was in Burton's film. In sequel 2(movie 3), the Joker would go on trial, and during the trial, throw acid onto Harvey's face(not Sal Maroni). I think that the Joker would escape and wreak havok on Gotham, I'm not sure, but the film's featured villain would be Two-Face.

These are just basic outlines from a quote of David Goyer.I hope that this will make people think more about key characters like Joker and Dent. Also, I never read anything about Harley Quinn, but that doesn't mean that she(or other villains) won't be in the direct two sequels.

william_blake05
06-24-2005, 01:38 AM
I'd like to see a sequel NOT get bogged down with too many villains. We don't want the franchise to descend into a vaudeville circus show.
With that in mind, let's hope they dont throw villains in for the sake of it. Joker obviously would work well, as would Two-face, but its doubtful they'll include some of the sillier Batman villains.

Brian Cox would make a worthy addition as a mob-type criminal. He's one mean bastard on film, along the lines of Wilkinson's performance.

Personally about 95% of the casting picks for Joker are SOOO far off (Depp? Law? KEATON for frick's sake?)
Psychopathic comics: Rockwell, Roth, Malkovich.

I really don't like anyone who's been mentioned for Joker. Many of them I very much dislike, such as Crispin Glover and Jason Lee. I think we'd be better off having an unknown in the role. Maybe someone like Cillian Murphy. Someone established, but without any kind of name recognition.

Paddy Considine for the Joker

He seems similar to Cillian Murphy in that he's a great(Hell, Empire Magazine called him the English De Niro) but not very well known actor. His films include 24 hour party people, In America, and Cindarella Man. The movie to check out though, is Dead Man's Shoes. Plus, I think that grin is just great for Mr. J.

Supposedly, he's very good friends with Mr. Nolan as well.

Crispin Glover is the only person for the role. Anyone who thinks differently has no interest in the Joker, or simply doesn't know Crispin Glover's work. If you honestly believe old, ugly men could ever be the elegant, beautiful jester that Joker is meant to be, you truly have no clue what the hell you are talking about. True, both Cesar Romero and Jack Nicholson began the trend for old, ugly Jokers, but all Batman fans know the animated Batman series with Hamill's voice absolutely redefined the Joker. The lanky, elusive Joker is both youthful, energetic, skinny, and has a nose like Crispin Glover. To cast anyone else, would be to mock the vision created by those who truly cared about this great iconic villian. Shame on all who believe Del Toro, Penn, Pitt, Roth or any of these losers could ever approach the magnificent portrayal Hamill created.

Crispin Glover for Joker.

Clown "prince" of Crime isn't just a catchy nickname, his elegance and beauty is what makes him so damn easy to watch, and so shocking when he turns from absolutely ammusing to brutally insane/homicidal. Jack Nicholson was just homocidal, rarely elegant or ammusing.

The Rock does resemble that version of Harvey Dent, but THAT Harvey Dent is based off of the black Harv from the '89 film I do believe. When they switched from TAS to TNBSA and made revisions to the characters (for better or for worse) Harvey looked white like his comic book counterpart. I do see the resemblence in the two pictures above though; however, casting the Rock as Two-Face would probably end up being as sorry as Ahhhnold as Freeze.

Well, BatSignal, I will say that I can see Leo as Harvey, but I dunno if he can pull off aTwo-Face. I certainly won't give you heat over it. And I'd have to agree with Two Face on Charlize. She's definitely my second choice behind Angelina. Actually, I wouldn't really care which one of 'em got it, they're both equally qualified. I also had a good idea for Mr. Freeze, if they ever use him again. What about Christopher Lloyd? I think he'd be great at it. Let me throw in some ideas. I have my casting choices on the front page, but I feel like getting deeper into the roles.

The Joker, obviously, has to be an insane nutjob. He's gotta have the creepiest laugh you've ever heard, and eyes that make you want to piss yourself. It would be nice for Joker to be tall and lanky, but it's certainly not a requirement. 10-15 years ago, Robin Williams would have owned this role. But, he's a little old now, and we've got to look younger. Jason Lee would nail the terrible one-liners, the scary-as-hell laughter, and he's even got the face for it. At the same time, Jude Law is the better actor, and could get into the role just fine. Glover, while dead on in the look department, has a timid, shaky voice. The Joker needs confidence. Glover can't do that. Joker has to be over-the-top, nuts, and scary all at once. The top five for the role, in my mind, are Jude Law (Road to Perdition), Jason Lee (Dogma), Matthew Lillard (SLC Punk!), Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind), and Vincent Cassel (Oceans 12).

Catwoman has to personify 'sexy.' Everything about her has to scream "do me!" Angelina Jolie is literally sex in human form. She is definitely the best for it, but there are certainly other actresses who can get into such a sensuous role, but at the same time, be threatening. The top five are: Angelina Jolie (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation), Winona Ryder (The Crucible), and Kate Beckinsale (Van Helsing).

Two-Face may be the hardest role to cast. He has to have two distinct personalities. He has to be a nice, hard working fellow who believes in justice, but after being scarred, he has to become psychotic and evil. Always though, and this is the key, his two conflicting sides have to be at war with each other. In my mind, Peter Sarsgaard is the best actor to play the duel role. The top five are: Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator), Matt Damon (The Talented Mister Ripley), Guy Pearce (Memento), and John Cusack (Identity).

The Riddler has to be a creepy, cerebral guy. I've always considered him a quiet Joker. He's creepy, cerebral, but without the over-the-top attitude. You've got to get the feeling he's always ten steps ahead. The top five are: Edward Norton (The Italian Job), Jeff Goldblum (Jurasic Park), Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction), David Hyde Pierce (Frasier), and Quentin Tarantino (From Dusk Till Dawn).

The Penguin shouldn't be a creepy sewer monster. He needs to be a smart, business-like mafia boss, who just happens to like birds - and carry around an umbrella. I doubt he could carry a movie by himself, but if he were a boss trying to fill the void left by Falcone, it could work. Everyone should call him by his name, with Penguin being an insult he can't stand. The top five choices are: Bob Hoskins (Unleashed), Kevin Pollak (The Usual Suspects), Peter Dinklage (The Station Agent), Jack Black (King Kong), and Brad Dourif (The Two Towers).

I don't feel like going in depth into many more characters, so here are the best choices for them, IMO.

Harley Quinn - Brittany Murphy (Sin City)
Poison Ivy - Kate Hudson (Almost Famous)
Bane - Nathan Jones (Troy)
Mr. Freeze - Ed Harris (The Rock)
Talia - Keira Knightley (The Jacket)
Ventriloquist - Hank Azaria (Eulogy)
Rupert Thorne - John Goodman (Beyond the Sea)
Black Mask - Ray Liotta (Narc)
Killer Croc - Vin Diesel (Knockaround Guys)

People like to make fun of DiCaprio because after Titanic he became such a "hearthrob", but the truth is that he couldn't stand being seen as a teen pop icon either, which is why his movie projects are so few and far between. He is an actor, and wants to be treated as an actor; not a prettyboy face to plaster all over teen magazines.

I think he could actually be a good canidate for Dent. Guy Pearce is still my favorite choice, but I think DiCaprio could be a solid choice as well. Didn't C. Bale audition for the role of Robin as well?

The Riddler: Hugh Laurie, Jude Law, David Hyde Pierce
Mr. Freeze: Ben Kingsley
Penguin: Jim Broadbent
Catwoman: Angelina Jolie
Poison Ivy: Kate Beckingsale, Scarlett Johannson
Killer Croc: Ron Pearlman

My only longshot, I think, is Hugh Laurie, who I chose as my top choice for the Riddler. Laurie stars in "House" on FOX. He's truly snide and could be extremely creepy if he was given the role. Plus, I doubt we'd see the likes of Croc or Freeze in this series, so I didn't put a lot of thought into them per say.

And while I could see Jolie doing a very good Catwoman, she's too much of a "celebrity" to really do the role justice. If you thought Katie Holmes' publicity circus hurt the movie, wait'll you see what an "Angelina Jolie is Catwoman" would do!

My choice for Catwoman is down to two actresses:

I like Carrie-Anne Moss for the role if Nolan and co. wanted to go the Ed Brubaker/Darwyne Cooke direction for the character. Plus she has a history with Nolan (Memento) and proved she could pull off the fighting in black leather (Matrix):

The Joker - Lately I've been loving the manips of the Paul Bettany, but yet to see any of his films. He has the height (6'3"). But on acting skills, I'd like to see what Johnny Depp would do with the character. Sure he's only 5'10, but that can be inhanced. But I think no matter the manip of Conrad Veidt which has been going around will be used as the inspiration of design for The Joker, just like the comics. And if The Joker is going to be dressed in style, as he should, no purple. Just the black tuxedo. I like that Alex Ross approach.

Harvey Dent/Two Face - This has been around for a while. Liev Schreiber. The important thing about Dentis that he is the Appolo. He's a young, good looking guy with everything going for him. Then its destroyed and he goes nuts. Schreiber can play Dent and he's a good actor, he can tap into Two Face.

Penguin - I approach this as one of the minor characters for the films. A mob boss at the iceberg lounge with taste for tuxedos, booze, cigars, and women. I think Bob Hoskins would work marvelously in this role.

The Riddler - I hope they don't drag this series down with doing more after the supposed planned trilogy with Joker/Dent. The character, and in this case the actor, deserve more than a cameo. My pick? Edward Norton. He is fast becoming, if not already, one of the best actors today. He, along with Liam Neeson, saved Kingdom of Heaven from being absolute *****e. Check out Primal Fear and Fight Club, he's cerebal too. And he'll look awesome in the suit and bowler cap.

Catwoman - I like the approach of Year One and The Long Halloween. The prostitute who becomes a thieve and moves up into high class society. This is early in the Batman mythos therefore she has to be young......say 20. Kiera Knightley is already an action star and can actually act.

As for Paul Bettany, I could see him being a good Joker.
Also, I think that the purple he's wearing here is a good example of how Nolan and Co. would portray the Joker's color scheme. Nothing overly garish or cartoony, but nice dark, subtle purples:

Another actor I don't believe has been mentioned yet, who was originally rumored to be up for the role of Ra's Al Ghul, and probably could play a very good Joker...Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence).

http://www.moviepublicity.com/image_assets/lotr2_viggo_LApremiere.jpghttp://www.geri.net/images%20viggo/Viggo002.jpg
The problem with casting Viggo is that he wouldn't do it.
He wasn't just rumored for Ra's, he flat turned down the role.

^ I've always seen Viggo as The Reaper... He'd be great!

As for the Riddler, I'd go for Ewan McGregor. He's perfect for the role!

I recently bought the 'HUSH' serious and I have to admit... The way they portrayed the Joker in it is just aweful! Since reading it, I just don't like the Joker anymore... he was just pathetic, nothing more. Still, if I had to cast him, I'd obiviously go for Adrien Brody.

Hmm.. Some interesting ideas.. Here's my two cents.

Joker -- Willem Dafoe, obviously not int he running because he's played a superhero villain before, but I'd still love to see it. Or, Paul Bettany; the consensus amongst fans.

Dent/Two Face -- It has to be Guy Pearce. If you want to see a movie with him twisting both sides as a friend and an enemy, see The Count of Monte Cristo. He plays a friend, and then turns on the friend because of jealousy.

The Penguin -- David Suchet. Looks like the penguin. Enough said.

The Riddler -- If Bettany doesn't get cast as the Joker, I wouldn't mind seeing him as the riddler. If not him, probably, Ed Norton???

Catwoman/ Kyle -- Milla Jovovich (I can't believe she's not suggested more..) http://www.soroni.worldonline.co.uk/images/MillaJovovich3(50%25).jpg

Harley Quinn -- Brittany Murphy

Viggo is no more a manly looking Joker than Del Toro and despite being cast as the gruff rough hero of Lord of the Rings, he's really not that big of a guy...at all. His jawline is very defined, unlike Nicholson who barely had one at all, and his face is not long and skinny, but the Joker is not always drawn that way anyway (i.e. the Dark Knight Returns, Batman/Punisher, etc.)

Viggo is not my top pick by any means, but I wouldn't be upset if he was casted either.

Sorry, BANEofEvil, but Bettany is not the conensus. I love the guy, he was the only thing that got me to watch Wimbledon, but I dunno if I like him as Joker. No one mentioned has struck me as Joker. I'd take Bettany, I'd take Mortenson, or even Hamill, but I wouldn't campaign for 'em. I would, however, campaign hard against Glover. Don't want him anywhere near this franchise.

American_Idiot

I don't like the idea of Glover for Joker either. He has the chin and the nose, but the similarities end there. He just doesn't impress me in any of his roles. Back to the Future is about the only film I've seen him in so far that his character doesn't get on my nerves and the movie as a whole doesn't suck.

Actually last night I thought about Jason Lee as well for the Joker. He can manipulate his voice rather well (Incredibles). Also, think about how he carries himself physically in movies (Mallrats). He could do the manic and comedy. I like a lot of the choices in this thread.

FYI, I have been tempted to start a thread somewhere else regarding "Dream Casting" a Batman film. Any past or present star in any role. EX: Peter O'Toole circa 1960 as the Joker.

(Please don’t hurt me. >.> )

My big concern for the Batman Begins franchise is them hiring anyone with a HUGE name. We don’t want someone who will take the spotlight away from Christian Bale and Gary Oldman, again. (Like what happened with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. Those a**holes.) This is a story about Batman, not the villains. That being said, let’s move on, shall we?

My Cast:

Joker: In an ideal world, Willem Dafoe. He looks like him, he is an AMAZING actor, and I absolutely adore him. But, as this is not an ideal world, I shall go with Paul Bettany. When “The DaVinci Code” comes out and he’s playing Silas, the homicidal albino, I hope more people will agree with me. And as for Jason Lee, I can see it working. Because seriously, he is a TRUE comic book fan. He is. So, if in this crazy world, he did get cast (by some ungodly fan miracle) he would do everything within his power to stay true to the character. Because he is a fan. And as for physical resemblance, it is pretty creepy how much he looks like him. Large smile, pointy nose, and he could do psychotic very well. I also like Quentin Tarantino, mainly for comedic reasons. If you think about it, it is kind of appropriate. Haha.

Two-Face: Had Batman Forever never happened, I’d have gone with a younger Tommy Lee Jones. I love that man, and he’s so brilliant as an actor. As for a realistic choice, I am not sure.

Riddler: I’m also torn on this one. I like David Hyde Pierce, though. He is calm, can be calculating, and I think he could do the “I know more than you know” personality rather well. If the script for BF wasn’t so terrible, Jim Carrey could have done much much better as The Riddler. He CAN do serious, (ex: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and he does have that air about him. I also think he’s calmed down now that he’s older. Less campy. I also like Hugh Laurie. Jeff Goldblum is funny. Mainly because I keep thinking of SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy.

Penguin: Bob Hoskins wins. He just does. This way, I can stop thinking of him as Mario and that guy from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Poison Ivy: I honestly have no idea. I really, really don’t. Anyone else at a loss with this? I’ll just say Kate Beckinsale. Whatever.

Catwoman: Anyone but Angelina Jolie. I can’t stand her, and I don’t want her near this franchise. I’d go with Kate Beckinsale or Charlize Theron, if I had to choose. I’m so gonna get flamed, but I just really don’t want Catwoman in the movies again. I don’t think they will, because they just did a (terrible) movie with her, so it’s much too soon. Milla Jovovich is interesting. And she’s quite pretty. Can she act?

Harley Quinn: Brittany Murphy. Something about her just screams Harley to me. The accent, the look, the adorableness, “I’ll worship you, Mista J.” I can just see it. And I’m usually not a fan of Ms. Murphy, either.

Mr. Freeze: This one is very difficult for me, because all the males listed would be amazing, so no complaints here. I love Jeremy Irons, Christopher Lloyd (although, he is a bit old *cough* 70 *cough*), John Lithgow, and Jason Issacs.

Mad Hatter: Martin Short. No one can do it better than he can. Y’know why? Cause he IS the Mad Hatter. Like it was said before, it’s as if God read a Batman comic and said, “I have to make someone to play that guy.”

Bettany, Lee, Carrey, Brody, Theroux

I wouldn't lose sleep if any one of them were cast as the Joker. Hell, I even like Vince Vaughn if somebody got him into a gym. See Clay Pigeons. Not a good movie but he plays a good homicidal maniac. There's also that flick with Travolta and Terri Polo. Never saw it, but he was a nut in that one too I hear.

Just don't give us the uninspired casting of Depp or Law as the Joker.

And no.... no freakin' Crispin Glover.

My two cents:

Jason Isaacs or Billy Zane would be great choices for Mr. Freeze. I've been lobbying for Isaacs for a long time on BOF, but Zane might actually be better.

Daniel Craig (http://www.kcet.org/media/about/daniel_craig.jpg) or John Cusack as The Riddler

Scarlett Johannson or Julianne Moore as Poison Ivy. Two ends of the age spectrum.

Love the Kevin Pollack as Pengin suggestion. He should be more of a high society criminal this time around as opposed to a mutant. I like the David Suchet suggestion too.

As for Catwoman, I like Rose Byrne (http://rose-byrne.org/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=1705&fullsize=1) or Keira Knightley (http://www.kkwavefront.org/media/albums/magazines/arena0804/05_Arena_0804_Oencross0251.jpg). I always thought Catwoman should be more of a petite gymnast type. It makes more sense for a cat burglar. I did a manip of Keira some time ago. Check it out here. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/jroneal3/catwomankeira.jpg) I like Kate Beckinsale too though. I think she has good chemistry with Bale (see Laurel Canyon). Oh, then there's Christina Ricci (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/jroneal3/Christina-Ricci.jpg) . I'd buy that too.

No Jolie. No Theron... please.

I still would like to see Timothy Olyphant (Sheriff Bullock from Deadwood) as Dent/Two Face. Although I could live with Guy Pearce.

I agree that Brittany Murphy is perfect for Harley Quinn.

Viggo Mortenson as Kirk Langstrom (Man Bat). Not sure they'de ever do that, but he'd be perfect.

Bruce McGill as Rupert Thorne

Mia Maestro IS, without a doubt, the perfect Talia.

I like the John Cusack idea for the Riddler. Better yet my dream casting for the first franchise was John Malcovich (see Dangerous Liasons the scene where he walks past the hedges and pops back). I like David Hyde Pierce. One of his best moments of Frasier was a Valentines Day episode where he pantomimed the whole scene. FYI Robin Williams was the first choice for the Riddler in the first franchise.

William Dafoe would be perfect for the Joker. He was perfect back in 1989 before they chose Nicholson. But now he is too associated with the Green Goblin. Ray Liota was mentioned for that part as well in 89 as was Tim Curry. I’ve seen some really good suggestions for this part all around. I think most of them are solid choices with a couple obvious exceptions. I have been wracking my brain though coming up with a comedian’s name that could use a good push and a solid enough past reputation to pull it off.

The part of the Penguin could go a couple ways; stocky Bob Hoskins (mentioned with Devito the first time around) or thinner Stanley Tucci. But Kevin Pollack would be inspired (Frankenstein never scared me. But Marsupials do, cause their FAST!)

Catwoman I don’t want Jolie. Not just because I’m not crazy about her, but I think the part is wrong both ways. I say let’s be patient on this one. We are in the beginning stages of this franchise. We may see someone come out in the next two years that could carry this part better. The closest I see doing it right now would be Jeri Ryan. I just want this to stay true to the comic and not wander into the supernatural the way Return & Catwoman did.

Mr. Freeze, Patrick Stewart is by par the best choice, visually. I like Loyd a lot but not the right person. I actually think they should steer clear of this character, too many other great ones to choose from. But if they do, Freeze shave Alan Rickman’s head.

My only apprehension with Martin Short playing the Mad Hatter he is taboo for movies. There is actually a “Short Curse” mentioned in some movie circles. And am I correct that he already did the Mad Hatter on TV? So, no. Mike Myers would be good but already associated with another hat. I say give someone who has fallen a bit an opportunity to come back up, Chris Kettan. This part like the Joker could easily fall to a comic actor. Preferably someone with improve experience.

Two-Face is an anomaly to cast. It really is wide open as far as type or race goes. I would really like for them to cast this part to a very “pretty” person very GQ and handsome, Narcissistic to a degree. Remember before Tommy Lee it was going to be Billy Dee in Burton’s vision. And in BTAS Harvey looks ethnic. So, if we open it up that much I wouldn’t mind Denzel who has been mentioned (Glory is on my top 10 list of movies). He has the range. And I feel could be very disturbing as Two-Face. But, he probably wouldn’t want to sign on for more than one movie. And I feel that they need to take their time with Harvey/Two-Face. What about Luke Wilson?

I would like to see Bane and/or Killer Croc in this franchise done right. Either one could go to a pro-wrestler. I’ve seen the Rock mentioned but I think he is too marquee for the part. Some in the business could walk through either part since they are not really driven by dialogue or any deep interpretation. Just big hulking beasts wanting to put the smack down on Batman.

That’s my thoughts for now.

Catwoman:
Carrie-Anne Moss - Sheanu cannot be in these movies. I forbid it.
Shannyn Sossamon - Not a bad choice, but I would bet anything people would says she's too flat-chested to play Catwoman.
Angelina Jolie - While not as bad as Sheanu, I still don't want her as Catwoman.

Poison Ivy:
Julianne Moore - Great casting, but she just seems too old. I know they could make her look twenty years younger than she is, but she'd still be too old for Bale.
Dina Meyer - She's just damn cute, and she's not foreign to the Bat-verse. She was Oracle, but not enough people watched Birds of Prey to make it confusing. All seven people who saw it are on this board, and can probably tell the difference between Pamela and Barbara.

Don't know. But as you can see above, Dini, who created the character based on his at the time landlord, who also voiced Harley, said she is the official Harly Quinn as certified by him. I am not sure. I hope she at least gets a screen test by Nolan.

No. Arleen Sorkin, is an actress who has always been the voice of Harley. She and her hubby were his landlords when he started working on Batman the Animated Series. I believe her hubby is Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the play and the screenplay for A few Good Men, and who created The West Wing. I don't know how it happened, but Dini created the character for her. There is an article somewhere were he talks exactly how he created Harly Quinn. Maybe she did the voice one day and he thought it was so great he created the character based on that voice. But he created it for Arlene to play.

This girl is someone who showed up at comic con 2001 as Harley, and Dini certified her the official Harly Quinn.

Alexa Davalos would make a good Catwoman/Selina Kyle. She has that deadly demeanor and sharp beauty that Catwoman needs. Plus let's not forget that she already played a jewel thief in Season 4 of Angel as well as a deadly convict in Chronicles of Riddick

It looks to me like she's just doing Harley-like poses. I know it's an opinion, but I think many people will agree with me that she's way more attractive than Moss.

eww but then again thats your opinion.

i for one think carrie ann moss is a hottie. yep, and i dont think she looks mascualine, maybe a little in the matrix, of course, they were going for that look i think, but cmon, tight leather, she kicks ass, perfect catwoman incarnate, they just have to make sure she doesnt look to masculine like in the matrix movies. then again ALL the females in the matrix movies looked like guys, but carrie ann was of course the most attractive, i envy keanu! also, has anyone here seen chokalte? with johnny depp? moss was in there too and she looked very attractive and womanly, oooooooo how can you say shes ugly!?? ok, thats not the best pic of her, but it shows her catwoman ish side. she doesnt beat pieffer in skin tight leather, but maybe she could! for some reason i could only imagine her talking pieffers place, not anyone else. but thats just my opinion...ill try to find a better pic of moss later.

Sorry but Moss looks manish all the time.

American_Idiot
07-15-2005, 01:05 PM
I've seen Moss in other movies as well (Chocolat, Memento) and she just isn't an attractive woman. If anything, she's average. I'd let Angelina Jolie get away with eating crackers in bed, but Moss...I'd kick her the f*&^ outta bed. Not my ideal choice as Catwoman, obviously, nor somone whose face should ever grace the pages of People's 50 Most Beautiful...

Carrie Moss did not look that manish in "Hide and Seek". If you read Batman Year One Selena Kyle looks very butch. So being too manish is not that great of an arguement. I would like a more street wise Selena Kyle.

I think their could be an actor on the brink of major discovery out there somewhere that will make a better Selena then anything I have seen suggested thus far. There are some really good suggestions. But my guess is that the future choice is an unknown actor right now.

Mad_Hatter

Suppose I'll give my two-cents on this subject...
I believe Liev Schrider would make a great Two-Face. He's a good actor and is capable of pulling off the darkness and tragedy of the character.
Jude Law would make a very good Riddler, as he can pull off the contemplative self-amusement the character possesses.
If Mr. Freeze is ever used, I would think Christopher Lloyd would accomplish a great deal as one of the most tragic characters, and could perform leaps and bounds over what Arnold did to the character (though I don't blame him as much as Schumacher and the script-writers...).
And finally, for my personal favorite, the Mad Hatter. As far as I know, this is a new name being thrown out for Hatter, but I could be wrong. Curtis Armstrong...famous for his role of Booger in "Revenge of the Nerds." He's mostly a second-rung comedy actor, but I think he could pull off the creepiness of the Hatter. He fairly looks the part, as well.

What do you guys think?

Hugo Weaving for the Joker

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b304/JackBauer24/joker5.bmp

He has the necessary pointed features, can pull of the maniacal laugh and smile - and is a brilliant actor. If you've only ever seen him in the Matrix and Lord of the Rings you're missing out. He's certainly more suited to the role than Crispin (no!) Glover.

And Kiefer Sutherland as Two-Face

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b304/JackBauer24/twoface.jpg

However, that said - I am coming round to the idea of Liev Schreiber. Saw the Manchurian Candidate remake the other night and thought he was really great and would be a fantastic Two-Face - just haven't done a manip yet.

MY VILLANS CASTING CALL(IMO THE BEST CHOICES)

tHE jOKER: (IF GOING FOR THE MORE TRADITIONAL TJK LOOK) ADRIEN BRODY
(IF GOING FOR A DIFFERENT MORE MODERN AND NOLAN CRAFTED REAL WORLD JOKER I LIKE BELIEVE IT OR NOT SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT TOTALLY GET HIS ASS SO EASILY KICKED I LIKE GUY PEARCE ONCE AGAIN A POPULAR CHOICE FOR HARVEY BUT LOOKING AT THE JOKER FROM A MODERN WORLD CEREAL KILLER PSYCHO PERSPECTIVE MUCH MORE LIKE SE7EN IM THINKING THE LOOK OF THE ACTOR'S HEIGHT OR THINNESS ARENT WHAT IS GOING TO MAKE HIM SO SCARY )

HARVEY DENT/TWO FACE: DEFINETLY ONA MY FAVORITE ACTORS EDWARD NORTON. THOUGH LOTTA PEOPLE SUGGEST HIM FOR JOKER AND RIDDLER KNOWING HIS ACTING TALENTS AND HIS RANGE OF PERSONALITYS (WATCH FIGHT CLUB AND AMERICAN HISTORYX BACK TO BACK) HE SCREAMS HARVEY DENT TO ME AS A SEEMINGLY BOTTLED UP TICKING TIME BOMB WAITING TO EXPLODE .

CATWOMAN: I AM DOUBTING WE'LL SEE HER IN ANY OF NOLAN'S MOVIE BUT WHO KNOWS I GUESS ID SAY ANGELINA JOLIE. SHE IS A GOOD ACTRESS AND THERES NO MISTAKE SHE HAS GOT CAT EYES.

RIDDLER: THIS IS WHERE IT GETS HARDER AS THE RIDDLER IS POSSIBLY MY FAVORITE BATMAN VILLAN. I GUESS I MIGHT SAY DAVID HYDE PIERCE WHO CAN PULL OFF INTELLECTUAL SOMEWHAT QUITE CALCULATING. I HATE TO SAY JUDE LAW ONLY FOR THE REASON HE SEEMS TO BE THE TOP RUNNER BUT I DO THINK HE'S GOOD AND HE DOES HAVE THE ESSENCE ID GO WITH LAW.

PENGUIN: IM SORRY TO ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE PENGUIN FANS I JUST DONT CARE THAT MUCH ABOUT PENGUIN IF ANY1 REALLY WANTS TO EXPLAIN TO ME ABOUT WHAT MAKES HIM INTERESTING PLEASE DO AND PLEAS UNDERSTAND IM NOT BASHING HIM I JUST DONT GET THE FASCINATION. HES A CORRUPT MOBSTER. OK. HE HAS PENGUIN LIKE FACIAL FEATURES.ALRIGHT.HIS UMBERALLA HAS HIDDEN WEAPONS AND STUFF..FINE.
I MUST BE MISSING SOMETHING HERE SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HIS STORY IS OUTSIDE THAT REALM.

MR.FREEZE: ONCE AGAIN I DOUBT NOLAN'S MOVIES WILL GET TO FREEZE BUT UD WANT SOMEONE WHO HAS A VERY MATTER OF FACT COLDNESS TO THEM. IM GETTING KINDA SICK OF SEEING PATRICK STEWART NOT THAT HES NOT A GOOD ACTOR WHO WOULD UNDOUBTABLY PULL IT OFF WELL. ITS JUST THAT I CANT HELP FEELING LIKE THE REASON HE COMES UP IS CUS HES BALD. THO IVE SEEN SOME OTHER GREAT IDEAS FOR FREEZE. I REALLY LIKE JEREMY IRONS HE HAS THAT FACIAL BONE STRUCTURE THAT DISPLAYS A GUY WHO THINKS WITH SCIENCE NOT SO MUCH HEART.

BTW ON A SEPERATE NOTE I WOULD PROBABLY NOT CARE AND CAST GIOVANNI RIBISI AS ANY OF THESE VILLAINS (ASSIDE FROM CATWOMAN) FOR THE SOLE REASON THAT I'VE NEVER BEEN LET DOWN BY THAT GUY EVEN IN ****TY MOVIES HE SHINES AND HE COULD MOST LIKELY MAKE UP FOR HIS LACK OF APPEARANCE WITH TALENT IN MOST ANY OF THESE ROLES... GIMME SOME RESPONSES GOOD OR BAD I DONT CARE JUST LIKE 2 HEAR FROM U

You know, I was watching Sin City for the first time last week, and after seeing Del Toro's performance, it became abundantly clear to me why people think he would make a good Joker. The whole time I was thinking "My God, he'd make a great Joker!"...

Del Toro is now second on my list, next to Jason Lee of course. :)
