What are some good places online to get Marvel figs? The Wal-Marts around here where I live kinda suck, but boy if I wanted Spider Man I would have no problem at all. One of the fig I'm looking to buy is the Blaze GR from Legends, I have one but I open some figs and also have a unopened one. Like I have an opened Blade and a unopened Blade.
Might be a good ideal to look around to see if a thread is about like here (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153321)

Hey all! My first posting here.. altho I've been following along all the while.
First off, I'm almost 30 yo.. and have been a HUGE ghost rider fan all my life. Well since my uncle gave me my first GR comic back in the early 80's. By the time I hit 16, I had every issue and just about every appearance.. which was a pretty daunting task back then. Right about then, my dreams came true and the 2nd GR series came out.. I actually have a letter published in one of them =) I forget the issue # (sleep depravation robs the brain at the moment..)
Just thought I should let you hardcore old GR fans know there is a statue available through www.monstersinmotion.com! I pre-ordered it early last year, and I finally received it about a month ago.
http://www.monstersinmotion.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/5441
First let me say, THIS IS GORGEOUS!! Whoever did the sculpt and casting, as well as the painting, did a tremendous job! The statue is HUGE (13.5" x 10"), I didnt pay attention to the dimensions when I bought it, I just had to HAVE it. Well, I had to clear off a good portion of a display table to put it up as the centerpiece. It's also heavy as hell, feels like solid stone. This is worth, to me, at least twice what I paid for it. You guys wont be disappointed!
I'm not sure how many are being produced.. monsters in motion usually sells stuff on consignment from artists (resin kits, models, etc). The box it came in was really nice, packed perfectly.
Anyways, the picture speaks for itself. I'm SORRY if this was posted elsewhere, tho I didnt see it! Enjoy guys!

Welcome to the hype indeed! I hope you visit out little section often. We don't bite... but we do pursue vengeance.
You got a letter in a 2nd series comic? Awesome! That means I've read words by you before this post. I love the letters section of the comics. It gives you more insight into the characters and those who develop them. Let us know which one it was, when you remember.
Man... I wish I could afford that statue. It looks so awesome. I was jealous when BG got one and now I'm jealous of you. I need to get rich... and soon..

Thats a good example of one of the things I disliked about grII. It seemed like every other cover they showed gr getting his ass beat. I know that grI was more powerful than grII but they still didn't have to show him getting his ass beat so much. It wasn't the kind of thing that made one proud of their favorite character, or at least the character that looked like their favorite character. :bomb:

I think the point they were trying to make (and one of the things I love most about GRII) was that he was impossible to kill. He had an extreame unwillingness to die, no matter how badly he was beaten.

Exactly FH...hes like the Terminator in that sense. no matter what is thrown at him he keeps on coming like a force of nature...
that was one of the cool aspects of GR....a being that could get ripped to shreds and still come at his opponent(s) w/ fierce anger and hate. that alone is a pretty terrifying idea

I'm looking at issue #21 of GRII...
But, no letters by Lee Barker..
We got..
Dewain E. Peek, Neil McAllister, Jesse Mumford, Shaun Padden, and Michael Todd "Twilley" Hagley.
Maybe another issue?
Crap, really? <think think> I was sure it was 21, not sure why. I'm going to have to stop over at the parent's and steal my closet back =) It's got to be before that issue then. Did you look at any of the others around #21?

If that was the point they were trying to make, than I feel better about the whole thing, but not great, it just seems demeaning to constantly show him like that. I swear, when I was buying the ketch issues and I would see a cover like that, my first thought would be that those guys have no respect for gr. Every now and then is one thing, but it happened a lot. Maybe it is as your saying but it just seems there could have been a better way.

My letter was:
"To the great editors of Ghost Rider,
First of all, I want to thank you for bringing back one of the most unique titles that Marvel has ever created. I know that I am not the only person that feels this way. This chain of his is an awesome weapon, but he's getting carried away with it. One of the things that made Zarathos a hit was his hellfire ability. But he also overdid it a bit. Add the hellfire into the new demon's arsenal, and it will ensure his success.
About issue #9: Zodiak? Didn't Zarathos fight a guy named that in the old series? G.R. seems to be taking over Danny's life, forcing him into a transformation against his will -- just like Zarathos forced Blaze all the time. G.R. is causing a drastic personality change in Danny. The million dollar question is: Is it for the better or the worse? But to top off the issue; NIGHTMARE! DOCTOR STRANGE! And a guy that I'd bet is Johnny Blaze! I'd say we're looking at a serious incorporation of the old series into the new. This is certainly going to heat things up for 'ol bone head, isn't it? Keep up the good work, and whatever you do, I'll keep reading. "
Their response:
"Whatever we do...? We certainly hope so, Lee, 'cause wait till you see what we do next issue! Trust us -- it ain't pretty!"
I guess I was being a bit nostalagic and whining for the old Zarathos heh.. But that was before they even showed that it wasnt Zarathos, but a different demon in itself. I need to bring home my closet full of crossovers and such.. Was amazed to find that most of the older GR comics were in damn good shape, even the marvel spotlight #5 and up were all in great shape. Wonder what these will be worth after the movie comes and goes.. I remember my TMNT #1 1st ed selling for quite a bit after the movie.. NOT that I'd sell any of these. Anyways enough rambling for me.
edit: This probably belongs in the comics section.. sorry all.

Hey!!! that was an awesome letter. I wrote similar letters to them on the same subject, but mine were never published. I used to read all the letters pages and I just know that when I read your letter I was glad as hell at least someone with the same train of thought as mine was getting through.
Don't worry about whining for Zarathos, I still do it, although I try to pace myself :)
Yep I never got any of mine published in vol.2 but I did in vol.1 #72. It was the one with the statue falling toward GR on the cover. The name's Lee Ferguson, the last letter on the Ghost Writers page. I was basically saying that GR was better than Spider-man....they didn't like that. I recall thinking, damn the freaking writters of GR like SM better, that sucks!
BTW, good name, you must be a really cool guy

We all know there are going to be toys/figures/t-shirts etc. etc. So, what would you like to see available to buy from your local toy store/comic emporium?
How about replica hellcycle/chopper bikes for the kids and maybe a limited edition fully working replica for big boys with very deep pockets?
Darth Vader style voice-changing skull masks?
Replica leather jackets?
Johnny Blaze wigs?
Ghost Rider the flamethrower?
Whaddya think?

sortve...the store at marvel.com had one up for pre-order but cancelled it for some unknown reason. guess they didnt get enough orders i suppose but its also possible they could put it up again once the movie comes out.
the jacket did have that trademark white stripe on the chest but it also had the spikes on the wrists and shoulders like the 90s version.

If they can have Hulk and Thing hands, there must be a Ghost Rider head...
Contains:
1- rubber Ghost Rider skull mask
1- 16 oz. bottle of lighter fluid
1- Special Edition "Johnny Blaze" Zippo lighter.
Not only would this decimate the fanboy legions, but it would create a ****storm on CNN as well:D

Although I'm not the biggest fan of the medallion, I thought it was cool the inside lining of the jacket had the medallion on it.
It looks similar to the jacket in the promo pic minus the detail and chest flap. I suppose any jacket released for sale would be the movie version and not this one though. I still think they should've included the blaze detailing in the movie jacket, if they didn't like the pronounced white of the detailing they could have put the detailing in a different shade of black or something, made it blend better. It would look cool, pay homage to Blaze series and seperate the jacket from your standard run of the mill biker jacket, after all GR is not your standard run of the mill biker.

There's a good chance that we'll see a whole biker line of clothing; jacket, chaps, cloves... all kinds of stuff. That is, of course, on how big the movie turns out to be. I mean, this may do for bikers what Fast and the Furious did for Car people.

True enough. They're both geeks like us, that's why.

I know, picturing somebody else as Blade is not easy... and it's not going to be easy to take when first seeing it.
Renolds thread is freakin' hilarious actually. He's one sarcastic dude and his use of vulgarity is quite inventive. It's a good read if you have the time.
Goyer's comments were quite insightful too though, after seeing the movie, I've always said "If Goyer spent more time workin' on the flick rather than talking about it in the site, we probably would have had a good movie"

Although, I thought Blade: Trinity was a pretty good movie..

I only saw it once, and that was a few nights before opening weekend, and I was so excited to get the pass and to actually get into the theater.. I could've seen House of 100 Corpses (1/10 to me) and thought it was awesome.
I had a pass for Hellboy too, but I couldn't even get in the theater, there were so many people... for Blade, showed up nice and early to assure my spot.
Reynolds was the best part of BT I think, I'll definitely have a look at his thread.
The DVD watch of B:T was much better. I wasn't impressed the first two viewings in theatre though. Hellboy is Awesome. Ron was made to play that role.
On a note more related to the thread. These Mega Morph toys come out this month...

Back in the early 70's when the original stingray bikes were out, they made these handle bars with a half circle cross bar, I took a bottom of a Webber type grill and turned it upsidedown and put it on the handlebars, and even had two lights on it, I had the hole bike black with a sissy bar in back. I have that figure as well and yes, you can take off the front shield. It did take me several months to actually open it though. I was going to leave it in the package... but decided against it one night while wanted to play with it.
I love the thing actually. Ghost Rider looks so freakin' awesome and you can even move his bottom jaw up and down.

Oh yeah, I can't wait to see some of the figures that come out from the movie.
I think I'd be tempted to buy 2 figures... to keep one in the coverings of the plastic and wrapping, and take the other out cause "Touching is good"
I have a Hulk figure that I bought and never opened as well...
:D
I almost did buy two of them beforoe thinking that was a pretty silly thing to do. I mean, the only reason why I would keep it in it's package is because it may be worth money someday. After thinking about it, these things are never going to be worth anything because they're so mass produced. So, I opened it... and I'm very happy for doing so. It so freakin' awesome.

Ghost Rider toys for pets? Interesting...
JAKKS Pacific Signs Master Licensing Agreement to Produce Pet Products Based on Marvel Properties
MALIBU, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2005--JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (Nasdaq:JAKK) has signed a Master licensing agreement with Marvel Enterprises, Inc. to develop and market products based on Classic and Movie Marvel Characters for categories including dog accessories, cat accessories, pet food and pet tents. The agreement covers products marketed under JAKKS' new pet division, JPI(TM). The products are expected to ship to retailers nationwide in Spring 2006.
JAKKS Pacific currently has rights to produce Plug It In & Play TV Games(TM) and other products based on Marvel properties. The new agreement includes classic and movie characters including, Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Captain America and Fantastic Four.
Jack Friedman, Chairman and CEO, JAKKS Pacific, Inc., states, "Blockbuster movies drive sales of licensed products, and Marvel has one of the best portfolios of top entertainment brands. Pet owners regard their pets as an integral part of the family, and this drives the sales of licensed pet products. We believe that pet owners will choose the Spider-Man squeak toy or Fantastic Four snacks for their pets as an alternative to generic commodity versions."
Tim Rothwell, President of Marvel's Worldwide Consumer Media Group Division, adds, "We are excited to expand into this category with JAKKS Pacific and to be able to offer pet toys, accessories and more based on our Marvel classic and film properties. Our high-profile, globally-known characters are an ideal match for JAKKS' pet product line, and we are confident that their vision will result in yet another successful line of Marvel-licensed products."
JAKKS Pacific expects to begin shipping the new Marvel pet products in 2006 to retail locations nationwide.

speaking of toy previews there was an interesting rumor posted on the Raving Toy Maniac forums. seems that someone who suscribed to a special retailer's catalog for Toys R Us listed that the Ghost Rider movie line will also have a "build your own figure" pack in like what Toy Biz did for the Marvel Legends line (build your own Sentinel, Galactus, ect). seems to me the only character that would need a 18" version would be Mephisto....either that or it could be a build a properly in scale Hellcycle.

Here's some good news. TOYS!!!
Buzz Report: Mass Market Wrap-up
By Staff
Playthings -- 10/28/2005 2:13:00 PM
NEW YORK — Wouldn’t you know…the biggest industry buzz came less than 24 hours following close of mass market toy fair. And the big news came in a one-two punch.
First, that the Toy Industry Association will reopen the search for a new International Toy Center, finding the proposed Church Street location unsatisfactory. The follow-up punch came in the form of a resignation by the TIA’s President Tom Conley.
Conley’s resignation came suddenly in a prepared statement from the TIA, which stated he was resigning “for personal reasons.” He will, however, remain in place until March 1, 2006, to assist with Toy Fair and the transition to a new leadership.
“Tom has accomplished a great deal during his time as president,” said Arnie Rubin, TIA board chairman and president of Funrise Toys. “We appreciate his contribution to the industry and we know we can count on his leadership through the transition.”
Added Conley, also in the statement, “These next few months will be very important for TIA, with a number of major items on the agenda. I am happy to stay on to help the association through this period.” A search committee will be formed immediately to identify Conley’s replacement.
See playthings.com for the full report on both stories.
As for the rest of the toy biz…the mass market show was deemed a huge success with plenty of action; as in lights…camera…action figures! If the action figures of 2005 were impressive, Hollywood, comics and unique cars (think, urban graffiti and robots) are taking it a step further in 2006.
The Ghost Rider, based on the motorcycle rider Marvel character, goes to film in July, and Toy Biz will extend the line to feature Ghost Rider figures of all scales.

Marvel Mania
“Ghost Rider,” the live-action version of the comic book (stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze gives up his soul to become a hell-blazing vigilante, natch), has moved up its release date by three weeks to July 14, 2006. Can anyone say “action figures”? This is making the collectibles market go wild. One retailer is so excited, he’s devoting a whole wall to Ghost Rider merchandise. There will be a big push on these toys to coincide with the release of the movie. Even if the movie doesn’t do that well, the toys should hold their own.
And now that Marvel Enterprises Inc. has changed its name to Marvel Entertainment Inc. and is going to make movies (hey, the lure of X-Men and Spider-Man was just too much), where go the toys? The licenses for these products are gold, and Marvel is picking and choosing with care. Since they will produce the movies themselves, they can really bargain from a position of power. Paramount is going to be the distributor of the movies, but with Captain America, the Avengers, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Cloak & Dagger, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack and Shang-Chi, who will be the licensees? As a little executive bird told us: “It’s the goose that laid the golden egg. Everyone has come knocking.” With that kind of brand recognition, and the success of previous superhero endeavors, it’s going to be a Merry Marvel Marching Society for years to come.

Doesn't Marvel own toybiz?
blades_shades
10-29-2005, 02:37 PM
Marvel & Toy Biz have a relationship that I don't fully understand but they've said conflicting statements about who owns what though they have some sort of agreement with them which benefits Marvel as if they did own them. They made the Lord of the Rings Toys and the new Curious George Toys coming out, as well as SpiderMan toys. Everthing else is outsourced to other companies. Avi Arad used to head Toy Biz.
This is from Toybiz.com so I'm assuming it's correct. Toy Biz is a division of Marvel Entertainment formerly Marvel Enterprises.

Something looking like fire is clearly hard to do with plastic figures, or pretty much any solid material. Just look at earlier Ghost Rider toys. A good solution might be opaque plastic with yellow and orange coloring.

The second one doesn't seem like it's 100% GR-inspired.
After all, flaming skulls=bad-arse! :ghost:
If I had an Xbox, the Marvel skin is pretty tight, as is the above, and the "Drifter" skin looks familiar? Is that Simon Bisley art from Melting Pot?
Oh, and "Necrosis" is totally frigging metal.
One can hope some third-party manufacturers will make some nice stuff for the 360. A nice GR faceplate could make a 360 that much cooler.

Blah, according to the UK toyfair, the GR toyline was pushed way back so that Hasbro could oversee how they're going to be made. Anything ToyBiz had going (like the build-a-figure pack in) is up in the air, Hasbro is going to have to look at it all now.

MGA Inks Vehicle Licensing Deal with Marvel
Feb 2, 2006 6:05 AM, PROMO Xtra, By Amy Johannes
MGA Entertainment is adding the likes of Spider-Man and Captain America to its roster as part of a new licensing deal with Marvel Entertainment.
Under the multi-year agreement, Marvel has granted MGA Entertainment licensing rights to its Superhero universe of more than 5,000 characters, including Spider-man, XMen, The Fantastic Four and Captain America for the die-cast and toy vehicle category. The deal covers the classic comic book look of the characters, upcoming Marvel-inspired films, including Ghost Rider and Spider-Man 3 and Marvel's pre-school property Spider-Man and Friends.
Best known for its popular Bratz doll line, MGA will develop a range of Marvel Super Hero products, including personality and movie-based die-cast cars and remote control vehicles. Products in the category are rolling out in stores.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"This agreement will further our mission of extending the reach and retail presence of the overall Marvel brand by teaming with category leaders with the marketing savvy, product innovation and distribution strength to maximize awareness of...Marvel product lines," said Tim Rothwell, Marvel Entertainment's worldwide president, consumer media group, in a statement.
Marvel terminated its licensing agreement with Toy Biz Worldwide Ltd., as of Dec. 31—one year earlier than the license's scheduled termination date. As a result, Marvel this year will produce Marvel-branded action figures and other toys normally manufactured by Toy Biz Worldwide.
And just last month, Marvel signed a five-year deal to license Marvel's lineup of more than 5,000 superhero characters (Xtra Jan. 11). Products will include action figures, role-play and preschool toys, board games and puzzles. The licensing deal starts Jan. 1, 2007Source: http://promomagazine.com/news/mga_marvel_deal_020206/index.html

props are gonna be a must for this flm...cant wait for the GR spiked glove set! heh
as far as Hasbro goes....i dont have alot of hope. Hasbro is REALLY strict on safety conrol for their toy lines...a typical Toy Biz Marvel Legend figure would probably not pass Hasbro's standards. many collectors think that Hasbro will scale back on the articulation and maybe even the BAF pack ins (the cool "build a figure" gimmick that TB created).
i read that a few weeks ago Hasbro was going to look over the GR toy line and decided what to do w/ it. they may scrap the already sculpted TB line and create a new one w/ less articulation and no bonus pack ins. hope this isnt the case as ill be mighty ticked off if they drop the BAF 14" Ghost Rider and Hellcycle

Okay, now I want to get a converatble and get that Ghost Rider paint job on it. It just has to be done.
When the hell did Ghost Rider become so popular again? Just seems so out of place to me. First the Megamorphs, then I saw a chibi-Ghost Rider toy on the back of a chibi-Spiderman toy package, and now the convertable (which is confusing, at least use him for the crotch rocket toy series). Don't even remember him being this popular in his own toy line.

i wouldnt call it becoming popular again but rather a savy marketing move
but you can leave it to Avi Arad for being so sneaky
he is an admitted GR fan and has said (at least to me :D )that the GR movie was what he called his own pet project. it seems hes been slowly re-introducing GR to the public in very small doses. like he wants to make sure there is something related to the character sitting in stores. great way to make sure people will be somewhat familiar w/ the character when the movie hits.

Avi is brilliant, no doubt about that and it makes me extreamly excited that he's such a big fan of Ghost Rider. To have this as his 'pet project' is very refreshing. It makes me think he'll never let anything bad happen to it... especially now that he learn't a lesson from Elektra.

Well shoot, I didn't even think to look in there. I figured something as cool as this would be in it's own thread so I didn't look there.

Normally, it probably would have been it's own thread but, we're so freakin' good about threads here.
No worries either way. No big deal.

You know, I could never understand why GR had spurs every now and then.....he rides a motorcycle not a horse  but then both western versions (movie and comic) did ride horses.
Looks even better when you see the the full figure. Nice touch with the spurs, too.

That's so cool. I can't wait to see him in the movie. Like Sam Elliot's voice isn't cool enough; imagine what it'll sound like when it's Riderised!
(Assuming he is the old west Rider, that is).

Well, that maquette wears almost exactly the same clothes he wears in the comicon trailer... the combination of azure shirt and red scarf is amazing though, it's a classics homage, it reminds me thousands of famous western movies... he's got also the right Lone Ranger style, among others...

I'd imagine so cool costumes coming for Halloween too. The DVD should come out around Halloween.

Ahh, you're right. I never thought about that before... but, I bet they did. I'm sure they realize how big the DVD market is (and they better have some cool ass behind the scenes stuff too) and Ghost Rider + Halloween = Good.

Hulk fists, Thing Fists, and of course Ghost Rider fists with flaming chain for kids. LOL
They'll make something cool. The Hell Cycle is gonna rock. I already told MSJ is Nic Cage doesn't roll up the red carpet at the Premiere in the Hell Cycle it would be a huge mistake.
