Hello. I just registered because I just wanted to say thanks to those of you who have written me (via imdb.com, I guess) the past couple of days saying you enjoyed the movie, etc. Chris Nolan and the gang are the ones to truly thank, of course, as I just played a very small part; but I'm honored and blown away that any of you would take the time to actually get in touch, and I thought this would be the most efficient way to reach everybody. Again, thank you so much. Sincerely, Larry Holden

Ok, cool but from that comment i would take that as a YES because if nothing was cut for the big screen then you could of said a simple NO , it shows that Nolan and WB is hiding something and also your death screen was pretty quick and seemed like it was cut.
Are you planning to do any signing conventions in the U.K any time soon?

You and Nolan should get a cameo in the sequel as inmates at Arkham, then you two could get into some kind of fight. You can get even with him :D

I heard you got injured from the fight sequence or scuffle with Guy Pearce (Memento). Method acting or something? :D

IMO Next time you see Chris tell him to drop Goyer bring in his brother in for the screenplay, drop Zimmer and Howard and bring in David Julyan (http://imdb.com/name/nm0432382/) for the score, they all seemed to work perfectly together in Nolan's past movies and i think it would the right decision to bring them back for the sequel if Nolan decides to return.

I would love that! He's ten years younger than me... I think I can take him. Ha. Memento... yeah, got a little banged up (lost skin up and down the back of my legs from being dragged down the stairs take after take, but at least I got my butt whipped by a good Guy. The damage on Insomnia was minimal, just a little blood from falling on the rocks after I got shot. I always try and guilt Chris and his wife Emma about my injuries, so they keep hiring me... Ha. i did, but not as good as expected, it felt scenes were heavily cut in places as the pacing of scenes didn't seem to flow well unlike Nolan's previous films, the score was good but seemed to be used a lot with the dialogue which felt annoying at times, fights scenes were a bit dodgy as you couldn't tell who was hitting who and the last 20 mins of the film felt rushed to me but from saying that the cast was excellent including yourself and bale is the best batman to date, just was hoping for a more gritter batman movie overall in the style of memento.

Right now I'm focusing on finishing my own films, which are in post right now, but Batman Begins seems to have a lot of filmmakers getting in touch, especially indie guys who want to use me to raise funds, which is always cool (the low budget ones are incredibly fun to do, believe it or not). So, yeah, it seems like I'll be busy soon. And regarding Dent or Gordon, I'm sure everybody was pulling for other guys, and who can blame them. i think it's so cool that you all accept he's the real deal simply based on the fact that his username is larryholden. i guess i'm just bitter and jaded.. it all stems from the time JackNicholson conned me into sending him my laptop to sign.. turns out it wasn't really jack nicholson at all! i never did get my laptop back :(

a pic of larry holden holding a piece of paper saying "to all those at shh!" or something would have been so awesome.. guess it won't happen... it is a tall order, i suppose.. as opposed to him calling me.

Hi Larry, perhaps you can answer this debate: who is better - The Clash or Rush?

Bob Dylan. Ha. Seriously? I like them both a bit. I listened to Farewell To Kings alot when I was young. But how could you not like what Joe Strummer and the boys did? LH

I believe this is the real deal. No offense to holden, but why would someone try to pose as him, when they can easily pose as chris nolan or something like that?

I have a question though. Is it true that you denied being in this movie and said that "99% of what's on the internet isnt true"? someone said that you said that. In fact, i think it was Rocky Batboa, so its probably a lie.

Thanks.

well...that's the thought i got from watching the film, but i could very well be wrong. i don't remember anyone besides both ra's al ghuls and bruce's parents actually being killed in the film. it's not rated R where everyone and their mom gets killed......but like i said, i COULD be wrong. Rachel DOES say her boss is missing which means she should start looking at the bottom of the river.

hey, sorry for the late post. and sorry it'll be short, but i have to hit the sack. first, i sent one of you guys a few photo's to show that i am indeed me, as silly as that sounds.. secondly, yeah, i tried to bone up on batman, as best i could. i was in norway prepping for a film i was supposed to direct there, but i did as much as i could. and i must admit this - i still own the original album from the adam west series. i was a huge fan as a very young kid. that show scared the hell out of me. i never thought him and robin would make it to the next episode. seriously. i meant to give it to chris nolan as a gift, but it's in storage in nyc. i plan on having it sent to me soon. and yes, i will try and check back in when i see it. but you can always reach me at: larry@holdenautomotive.com.

C. Lee. Hey, I'm still up, but wanted to ask you to let everybody know that I was notified yesterday by a fan in Australia that somebody was selling Batman Begins posters will signatures from the entire cast basically. And since that fan knew my signature from Memento stuff I had scribble across for her a few years back, she knew that was not my signature. And she was right. I can't speak for any other members of the cast, but my name is forged. But sure, if you ask me, I bet all of them are forged. She has a nice little racket going it seems. So, here's one of this sellers Ebay auctions (1 of 2 Batman Begins posters as of today). Tell everybody with a different thread maybe - I hate seeing people get ripped off from scavengers like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7523596764&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

hey larry what was it like working with robin williams and al pacino?

Hey, like your handle (bbb), but I can't tell you why (has to do with a childhood nickname I had). Al Pacino actually became a friend, even though I ahven't had contact with him in awhile. After Insomnia, when we were all back in LA, he invited my wife and I to watch a film he directed called Chinese Coffee, because he knows I direct, too. He's an amazing man, and an amazing artist. He still cares so much after all these years. Incredible. I was honored to work with him. Bummer is, we had a much longer hospital scene in that movie, but it had to be trimmed. Robin I met years before when a friend of mine, Danny Baldwin of the Baldwin clan, was on a show called Homicide. I flew into Baltimore to hang with him, and met Robin back than. And I tell ya, that guy can do it all. Seriously. I watched him joke and kid around with Danny and I - and then they would say, Robin, we need another take, and instantly, he would get up on the witness stand (his wife had been nurdered on the show or something), and would just come apart. Each and every time - and in between takes, he was... Well, he was Robin Williams - manic and funny as hell. Another amazing man. But during Insomnia, we never even met, believe it or not, because our schedules were so different (a stunt double was used in the fog scene when I got shot with Al). Hope that answers your question. Thanks again. Best, Larry Holden.

wow, thats class! Thank you Larry for reaching out to the fans... Some of us have literally waited years and years for a genuine Batman movie and thats what we got... congratulations for being a part of something great and thanks for posting!

(here's hoping that you get a "Bruce Campbell" style cameo in any and all sequels.)

 :batman:

Thanks, man. But hell, I look like crap. Sorry everybody. My wife told me to take that damn hat off and take a shower, but I didn't figure anybody would care. And as far as my "directing hat" goes, I put it on so people could check the pic with what they have at imdb.com. Plus, my hair is out of control right now (and it was dirty!). But I'm getting old boys, and it's showing. Thanks for the kind wishes. I'm growing my hair out long and have started to grow a beard (for a movie I'm supposed to do late this year), so maybe Chris will be able to sneak me in the next Batman (if he does it) as some sort of thug or psycho, etc. Ha. Have a great weekend. Best, Larry.

hey Larry whats next for you ????

Hey. Well, a lot of indie guys are getting in touch, because I am one of the few actors who people can actually reach without dealing with my agents (my email address is right there at imdb.com). And the erason i do that is because I know what it's like to to both low budget films and extremely low budget flicks (which agents hate for us to do! matter of fact, my agent begged me to turn down Memento... because it was "only" a 4.5 budgeted film, if you can believe that. And that is NOT low budget in my opinion. 4,5 thousand is. Anyway, so a lot of scripts are coming in. I signed on to do one late this year (dates unknown) in Delaware (tentative location). Other than that, I've been editing all the films I've directed, so I can send them to fests this year and next. I have five waiting. But if anybody has something they would like me to do, just get in touch, and let me know. In some places my name means something ($), in other places it means a cold bowl of soup. But I'm always open to reading scripts and hooking up with fellow filmmakers. Hope I answered your question. Stay in touch. Best, Larry Holden.

Larry, I just want to thank you so much for just dropping in here and talking to us fans. You don't know how much it means to me for someone involved with Batman Begins to recognize the fans and how much we have looked forward to this movie.

I loved the movie and I'm sure you can confirm how lucky we are to have Nolan directing and the amazing cast we had acting in this movie.

Thanks again from a true fan.

He sure like his stetsons :D

Yeah... I don't know about my hat. Bought it in Arizona or somewhere back in 2000, before I shot my first film, because I was driving to a little rural town in Maryland called Bel Air - and I thought it might help me blend in with the locals. It didn't. But it did keep the sun off me, and kept my scraggle hair out of my eyes. But I'm not a cowboy, trust me. Just don't know how to dress myself! Ask my wife. I went to the Memento premiere wearing a shirt from the seventies that had an image of Ireland and the words: Brits Get Out! to tease Chris Nolan, and the press almost attacked me. My wife just said, I told you so. She's an ex-model and a fashion designer now. And I embarrass her almost everywhere we go. Trust me. Anyway, felt like I should let you guys know that I'm not f'ing Garth Brooks or somebody. Ha. Best, Larry Holden. ps: I have to say, this has been fun, chatting with you guys.

Good Stuff Larry!!
Pass this on to the rest of the crew (if you see them):

The film is amazing! All of us have begged to see this version and it's finally here.
As you can see, there's nothing but praise in the air for BB. I have seen it 3 times already and a 4th showing is not far from my radar.
BTW, you did excellent as DA Finch!! Hopefully Nolan can assign you a thug role next to Zsazs (Booth) in the next flick.
Cheers.

Thanks Larry - you did a great job in all your films, I've pretty much seen them all. Also, Batman Begins is one hell of a film, and it's getting so much positive word of mouth up here in Michigan it isn't even funny........

Thanks for stopping by and being so genuine...........

Man, thanks so much. Appreciate it. I always think I suck. Michigan... TEd Nugent and Bob Seger country to me. Never been there. Do you live near that Ambassador Bridge? One of my best friends, actor Josh Charles, did a movie with Stevie Baldwin and Jason Gedrick there called Crossing The Bridge. Make a movie there and hire me! I'd love to see where the Motor City Madman (Nugent) calls home (even though I haven't been a fan since I was eighteen, and he's out of control these days with his whole Republican b'sh't. Ha. Thanks again for the kind words. (Man, you guys a re gerat for the ego!). Best, Larry Holden.

I will, promise, when they get back from their little "world tour" promiting the movie. Thanks so much. I didn't play a big role, but I tried to make him kind of a big wimp, really, trying to pose a bit to snag Katie's (Rachel's) attention. You know, the insecurity thing. I'm surprised you guys even remember the character to tell you the truth. But I haven't even seen the film yet. The wife says, "Today, dammit." But we'll see. Best always, Larry ps: And trust me, I hope Chris hires me again, too! I always tell him I'm his lucky charm... so if I'm not in whatever he does next, and it blows, you'll knwo why. Ha. Big ha. Nolan does not need me or anybody else. There's no stopping that guy. I knew it back in 99 on Memento (even though I thought NOBODY would ever see that film.) He's got it all. He's "together," as they say. But feel free to start the hire "Golden Holden" (which is what him and the gang all jokingly call me) campaign. Ha.

"What a gift! What a joy! Just when the cinematic landscape feels like a vast, boring desert of sameness, along comes a triumph of low budget brilliance like Larry Holden's "My Father's House" -- a beautiful, delicate study of men's lives and relationships. The film was so good I could hardly believe it. I held my breath as I watched it, waiting for a false note, a weak line delivery, or a sentimental moment. But there was none. Holden probes his central characters' emotions without a single misstep. Watch carefully because this film is as subtle as our most interesting interactions in life. Holden understands that with men in particular, everything or almost everything emotional is hidden under the surface, between the lines, in the depths -- and the miracle (and this film is miraculous) is that he finds a way to take us down there into the emotional depths of his characters' lives to help us to see what is going on inside them. The succession of scenes may at first seem random or haphazard, but shot by shot Holden wonderfully weaves the strands together to tell the story of a life. One of the truest, subtlest, best films I've seen in years." If you havent paid the man to write that, I absolutely have to see that film:joker:

Thanks, but I'm just learning, too. It never stops. But I have always tried to ignore the "rules" when it comes to my won films. Not that I re-invent the wheel or anything, but I make them to please me - because so many times as an actor you have to do stuff you hate to pay the bills (or, for me, to pay for my films). Esspecially most of the Hollywood stuff. But I no longer blame Hollywood. I blame audiences for paying to see crap. The suits and ties want to make money, and that's all. So if people stop going to see crap, they will stop making it. Simple as that. John Cassavetes once said, They would make a movie about all the studio heads get executed if they thought people would pay to see it. And he was right. Anyway, send your address to me at : larry@holdenautomotive.com, and I'll send you a copy. But know that I'm not a big fan of that first film. I like it, don't love it, and it took me two years to even say that. But Paige Moss is great in it (Buff The Vampire Slayer), and Howard Keel, too (who died recently), and Cameron Diaz (cameo), and Josh Charles (deleted scene on dvd), and my nephew, Ryan is great (he had never acted before)...and Robert David Hall from CSI. You might just like it, who knows? But please be gentle with your review. Ha. Best, Larry Holden.

Hey Larry, I have a question.

I have this story, not so much script, that I'm working on. I havent even really started it yet cause I know it would work better as a film than a book. Problem is a book is easier to have published than a film is to have made. I have specific actors I think of when I do think of the characters and how they would help the characters evolve, or become more of what I have in mind. I know if I were to sell a script that the actors I have in mind would not all be involved, maybe a few, but it would be hard./ There not even all A-list so to speak but thats how it goes I guess. Anyway...

...what I'm getting at is this. I haven't started writing and it's all in my head when I'm bored or smoking a cigerette or going to sleep. I know it's good and I keep coming up with more and more and changing things I originally thought of. David Goyer said just start writing it andI told him I have a begining and an end but in between is kind of random ideas. He said just have an outline and go from there.

Should I even start wasting my free time by writing this story/script that I know may not ever go anywhere as far as getting to the public or work and pay my bills and try and just keep a balnced life hanging out instead?I believe in this story very much and it's very different from the rest of the crap thats out in hollywood, oh, it has absolutly nothing to do with comics in any way at all either. It's more reality based and it deals with different kinds of relationships between people ann how things never go right in life and you deal with it anyway and the things that do are never the things you ask for and so on...I just feel it would be such a waste to dive into something so time consuming to have nothing come of it. How hard is it to shop a script or a book? I don't even know how to write in proper script form.

What do you suggest as a regular guy who is into indi film making and an actor as well, from all sides?

Wow... sounds like a story I would love. I really have to run soon (the wife ran out to do an errand, and I promised her I would be ready when she got back. If you saw her, you would know why I try to listen. Ha), but let me say this: My sound man was interviewed last year and asked about working with me, and he said one of the nicest things about me ever in my opinion, God bless him - he basically said that I was like a blues or jazz director, and so he felt honored. And then he went on to explain that. He said that there is no real pay off for me financially, and that I only do it for the love of telling my stories on film, etc. So, that's my advice. F#@k selling it. Make it, buddy. Keep control and make it with barbie and ken dolls if you have to. But keep it, and own it. It's never easy selling things to those money hungry jerks in Hollywood. And unless it has dollar signs all over it, they will not care. It sounds like a great idea, an important one in these times. So keep pushing, finish it. And screw the typical way to write scripts. None of that matters. Actors should respond to the story, that's all, not how it's displayed and in what format. And plus, believe it or not, most people write production scripts, not author scripts. Meaning, leave out all camera stuff, like an author would, not a production guy por gal, and just tell the story as simply as possible. Ig you do feel the need to, though, try and find this book by Rick Schmidt (spelling?) called Formatting your Screenplay, which will explain it all very simply. Don't base it on what other people are doing. You ought to see my scripts! They look like outlines, really. Ex. "John looks at Bill and says something about how much he dug the new Batman movie. But Bill just shakes his head and says, Are you serious? I thought that Holden guy wrecked the whole film!" Ha. But keep it simple. But never give up. The world is full of quitters, quitters of their own dreams, people that just settle for paying bills and watching football on Sunday - if the wife and the kids will let him! Ha. Don't ever settle. Think "big," or end up "small." Theres a great Van Morrison song that says, For the healing, go back to the dreaming. And he's right. Whenever you're down about crap, think about your film, and sit down and chop some wood. can't wait to see it. Write a role for me! Ha. Best, Larry Holden.

larryholden, like i said, a phonecall wouldn't have been as much use since i had no questions to ask you. the pics are way better, and despite the flaming directed at me (pure entertainment), I'm simply chuffed that I nagged you into posting that pic. so respect for the pic.

did u ever get a chance to chill out w/ gary oldman? is he as smooth as he is on screen?

no worries. it was funny. gary oldman... well, no offense to the rest of the gang... but i was so bummed him and i didn't get a chance to hang out. hell, i never even got a chance to meet him. we had different schedules. cillian and i, along with richard brake (a cool cat who played joe chill) were all acting like kids at the thought of being in a film with one of the masters. like, "can you believe it? we're in a film with oldman...! alright, gotta roll. best to you, buddy, and don't let them razz ya too much. it's all good. best, larry.

Thank you Larry......thank you, I will do more with my story and just see where it leads me. I'm sure I can think of something for you, I still need a hard cop who has his own share of problems and has to deal with a new partner as well as his boss in his face all the time while still dealing to figure out whats going on with what my story involves. Very minor character, infact police play a very miniscule part of the story, but cops are always watching what people do so it only makes sense to have them involved one way or another. I only add what is absolutly vital to the story telling to make the story evolve and progress. I would need to see more of your work and how you are to judge just how you would help this character evolve from just a basic one. I have a pretty good ideaso far now from Insomnia and Batman and your personality via message boards but I'll see what I can do, you seem like a pretty good guy and I'm kind of caught up in thought on this particular character anyway as to who he is and what he does though he is the most important of the 3 cops I need.

Im rambling now, anyway, I qppreciate your words of motivation Larry.
I'll just add a little as I go along even if takes a couple of years lol.

Thanks for everything bro.

Thats my advice as well. You shouldn't do it for the money anyway. If you love to make a film do it for you and your friends. Dont think of actors who could play this or that role. Think of people you know who'd participate instead. I also wrote a screenplay and I wrote all the characters inspired by people I know. Furthermore I wrote the whole script regarding the fact that I have not much money to put in the film. Anything else would end in dissapointment.

You're welcome, my friend. Good luck with it. We'll see where I am when you're ready, but keep in mind that I used to plat extreme psycho's / croks / rapists before Hollywood saw me as a "nice guy" the last few years, and that I am going back to that "look" to try that route again for awhile. so i may look like charles manson by then. ha. but i guess i could always be an undercover cop, like the ones who busted me for a drunken street fight i was a part of in chicago back in 85! (i'm a bears fan and flew in to see them the year they won the superbowl) ha. okay, wife's home, going to see BB, i guess! best, larry.

So if you'd be interested I'll send it over. I would really be interested in know what you think and any comments you have. Thanks a lot!

Especially coming into these forums considering we can all be a little critical on these films. But everyone involved with this film truely hit one out of the ballpark. Certainly one cool cat yourself. Thanks again.

Mr. Holden, do you think you could put in a good word for Tim Roth to play The Joker in further sequels to Mr. Nolan. :D

that's if Nolan will even be directing it ... remember, Singer did a GREAT job with Xmen, and Fox screwed him over because they wanted the movie too soon ... hopefully, if Nolan is interested, they don't pressure him out with schedules or casting "movie stars" ... forcing certain casting decisions.

1. Yeah, and he was wearing black. But I made him my b#$ch first. Ha.
2. A few days ago. My best friend was killed in Iraq, and sometimes it gets the best of me still. Be two years on 30 July.
3. Hmmm... not sure how to answer that one... But hey, listen Neil Peart (spelling?) and Geddy Lee... and I forgot the other guy. Wow. Like I told you last night, I used to listen to Farewell To Kings every day when I was a kid. Even wrote a letter to Rolling Stone complaining about their lack of exposure for the group. Then, because I felt like I wanted to REALLY hear what these maniacs were doing, I started smoking pot so I could get in between the instruments, if that makes any sense. And if you have ever been stoned, it will. Ha.
4. Ha. Pretty damn good, that. I would say that is pretty much true, 90% of the time. yeah.
5. Man, I just don't want to die. I hope God just keeps me alive. So, immortality. Ponce De Leon (spelling) kind of action. And hell yeah, I would love to be invisible!
