I love Buffy, but seriously, why do people claim she started the whole thing of kickass females on TV? When Kim and Trini were doing it wayyyy before her. <3

TheCorpulent1
06-07-2008, 10:50 AM
Because Kim and Trini were members of a team composed mostly of men, and Tommy was the indisputable star of Power Rangers from the moment he showed up. Buffy was clearly the main protagonist of her show, with all the men cast as clear supporters or love interests, and she took charge and made all the tough choices and did pretty much everything your typical male hero would do. That was fairly uncommon before Buffy.

Well bad news guys. Today was that NY licesing show thing. And once again we got giped on getting season logo/season description. Posters over at rangerboard who went to the show said all they had was some stock artwork of the Red ranger for the next season. Kinda sucks they didnt have anything today. But hopefully logo/description is revealed soon. That happened with OO season no logo at the show and it was revealed a short time later.

They should have called me up and put me over PR for a year... I'd put it back on track, shoestring budget and all.

Fans tend to think that, but it goes way beyond producers and often its best left up to the professionals. Or at least professionals who happen to be fans.

If PR were always as action-packed and well choreographed as it was in "Forever Red," it'd cost an arm and a leg and Disney would cancel it. :(

Uh, kick ass females on TV go as far back as the late 70s, not early 90s.

And Xena proceeds Buffy by 2 1/2 years.

I recall a male yellow ranger in Mystic Force, and one of the female rangers was blue. But other than that, I'm not sure. When they [were] using Japanese footage, pink and yellow were the only feminine colors for Kim and Trini. Over there, I guess yellow isn't seen as necessarily a feminine color hence the person in that suit is a guy (which explains no skirt). Jason is the leader, so red is reserved for him. Blue just fits for Billy, can't imagine him in the black suit, so that leaves Zack. The people who think it's "racist" are so annoying. THEY'RE COLORS! Americans...so obsessed with race it's unbelievable; we/they make it an issue.

don't forget WW--linda carter.

I mentioned late 70s to insinuate Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, etc. Although now that I think about it, maybe I should add mid 60s too (Adam West's Batman).

that is so mean. :funny:

in all honesty though, people tend to underestimate just how much of an impact Adam West's batman had on the batman culture. in addition, other than he very first appearance, batman is actually closer to the show than people may think. it wasn't until frank millar and burton changed the character into the dark character he is today.

Tommy is severely overrated for one thing; he overstayed his welcome. If he left Zeo/Turbo he would be appreciated more. However, I do enjoy him on DinoThunder. Jason Frank's acting had improved immensely, although that could be due to him finally being able to play someone his own age.

Jason was a better leader, no doubt about it. Ready from day one. He was the only one who thought [they] could do it [Day of the Dumpster] when everyone was doubtful. I liked Tommy as the Green/White ranger only. Zeo/Turbo red, blah. It was nice seeing Jason again in Zeo as the God ranger!! He looked even sexier too :oldrazz: I like the red, but something about the black made him stand out more. I've always thought it would have been great if it ended with the finale of Power Rangers in Space... they totally wrapped up the whole storyline perfectly, with Zordons sacrifice, all the evil being whiped out, and the Rangers identitys being revealed. It really should have ended there while it was still a series with one long storyline before they began completely starting over with each season.

Well heres the season list:

1-3 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 1993 – 1995

4 Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers 1996

5 Power Rangers: Zeo 1996

6 Power Rangers: Turbo 1997

7 Power Rangers in Space 1998

8 Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy 1999

9 Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue 2000

10 Power Rangers: Time Force 2001

11 Power Rangers: Wild Force 2002

12 Power Rangers: Ninja Storm 2003

13 Power Rangers: Dino Thunder 2004

14 Power Rangers: S.P.D. 2005

15 Power Rangers: Mystic Force 2006

16 Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive 2007

17 Power Rangers: Jungle Fury 2008

18 Power Rangers: RPM 2009

I felt that each Power ranger up until S.P.D had something special about it. Mystic force i feel is where you could officially say the jumped shark.

Hey would anyone mind pm-ing me about ideas to make a more mature Power Rangers series? We could work together on it. Suddenly I'm intrigued to do this for some reason.

honestly, if there was a legit shot, and someone would read it, I think i could come up with an awesome story that is more adult. either as a remake of the show (the original, there is no other), or a semi-continuation where one of the old members recruits a new team (or the same team)

with transformers, GI JOe, adult versions of a cartoon. I think power rangers could work as a remake.

When Power Rangers came out in 1993 I was 9 and I was completely obsessed with it like so many others around that age at that time. I liked it up until 1998 when it turned into power rangers in space. To me, it went downhill from there. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Power Ranger movie 10-15 years from now in the same vein as the Transformers movie that just came out as well as the upcoming G.I. JOE movie. i agree. it would be kinda badass if a Power ranger movie was done in the same vein as Transformers. i kinda want to see it now. Hollywood quit with ur damn remakes and whatnot and give us a good Power Rangers movie in the vein as Transformers with an adult story.

Jason will always be The Red Ranger and leader, not because he's first, but because nobody ever did it like him. It had more than the average PR series, but even that was pretty light.

Oh and, this:

It's Muffin' Time!

Tommy and Kat had 0 chemistry (Tommy sounded more in tune when he would shout HIT-SUIT-KEYAH! a thousand million times during fight scenes...) and she was about as interesting as watching paint dry. Kimberly was great at gymnastics.

Right, because Amy Jo Johnson's acting was so much better back then. Everybody on PR was a terrible actor. That's a given. They were paid table scraps and hired mostly for their athletic ability.

I'm a girl so I don't want to and can't possibly **** her, but I still think she's hotter than Kat in every way. Plus her acting and character annoys me. I know the acting on MMPR wasn't Shakespearean, but God, she was more monotonous than Zordan.

Oh and, this:

It's Muffin' Time!

So true, I always hated her character

See, I made a point to say that no one on MMPR were thespians per se, but they all had their moments (the conflicts during the Green With Evil arc, they all did a good job there, all of them had chemistry with each other, etc) Kat stuck out like a sour thumb. And I'm not blaming it on her being a 'new ranger'. Adam, Aisha and Rocky were new as well, but somehow Johnny Yong Bosh, Karan Ashley and Steven Cardenas they pulled off being a close trio of friends new at Angel Grove very well.

TheCorpulent1

I don't think I get the comparison. He wasn't any darker or smarter than Jason. He was lucky enough to have faulty powers, which made him a prime candidate for the white power coin when Zordon created it. I guess you could say he was more dedicated to the Power Rangers' mission, since he was still active and in contact with other Rangers even after he lost the last of his official powers and Zordon went away, but that wasn't until later.

I think the sequel was made with a lower budget, hence the costumes looked ****ty. Really, no matter how cheezy the dialogue was, i can still sit down and watch the first movie, they did improve on alot of things that the show couldnt. One complaint though, the origin of their ninja powers was totally different in the show.

Ironically, I didn't find any of those improvements. I hated the command center, Zordan and Alpha's new design, as with Lord Zedd's as well, even the communicator beep sounded different. The CGI zords, you would think would be a major advantage, but I prefer the miniatures actually.

Actually, I just thought of one thing I didn't like about DT's presentation: the "rooms" inside the zords. I didn't like how they'd just meld into the zord's head and then a room would magically materialize around them. I preferred the more straightforward mechanical setup of the MMPR zords' interiors to that.

They barely ever used their powers, so I was okay with it. Plus, I liked how they showed Ethan's power.I liked when they fought the Ninja Storm rangers, particularly when Tori and Kira fought. Tori went to do what I call her "water Hadoken" and Kira counters it when her sonic scream.

A Super-Weapon that was being developed by Jum-BoWhale but was only completed when Renn finished the Torkon Soul to power it. By setting the Torkon Soul in wheel mode, GoRoader can transform into a robot mode. Furthermore, it can also grow giant. Also, the Speedor Soul can be set...

The Torkon Soul is set in the palm-sized GoRoader wheel, which then performs attacks in Wheel Mode, and transforms into Action Mode to fight.

I'd have a more expansive version of Space/SPD where various PR teams comprise a literal army of Power Rangers across the universe.

I would stop having the formula of monsters getting destroyed every ep,

i would introduce five monsters max with one continuous boss.

each monster is tied to a member of the main ranger cast.

I would drop the zord fight at the end of each ep as well and have one ranger calling their specific zord to maybe fulfill a task during an ep, a better relationship between zord and owner would also be established with some sentient zords and some tech based ones with the rangers treating them differently.

I would have an internal power struggle for an additional power coin/transformer with each member getting their hands at it, maybe even having a ranger corrupted by the power. let this be tommy's revitalised green power coin, the most powerful and evil of ranger power.

I would have some power coins or zords that worked in unison so some rangers couldn't function without the other even with tension behind them.

I would have less of a happy ranger taskforce. Instead of being designated rangers, I would either have them all being sixth rangers from unknown groups or maybe one being the son/daughter of a sixth ranger killed in battle and inherited their powers.

the goals of the monsters would be to finish their task, they had destroyed all of the rangers within the five teams they all came from and to gain rule, they needed the sixth one as well. It'd be personal vendettas.

The season would be spent trying to get the sixth power rangers to become a single unit by adapting their unique zords and power units to fight together as a collective. What would ultimately happen is that they would reject their sixth emblems and form a coherent ranger group.

I think it could really open up some doors.

A good thing about this is that guest stars from known ranger taskforces can come in to challenge their views and provide input. structured rangers like spd, lightspeed and timeforce can all play an influence on team work.

heck, you could get a bootcamp lesson against eric and tommy and show them working together can take down a batch of sixth rangers who go at it alone. The red ranger brigade could come back to inspire them.

ideally what would occur is that they would see that separate colours and rangers all come from the same morphiing grid, the same white light beacon and would all become 'White rangers' (the original sixth ranger colour (proper not pink)). The white rangers would then set up an institution to collaborate the powers of other sixth rangers into their white light and start an order very similar to the green latern core with white sixth rangers being sent out to take care of sectors of the universe where the original rangers had been disbanded.

the twist is that one of the monsters had secretly been employed as a member of the main group and had plan to destroy the other monsters rather than claiming the prize of complete rule (he didn't trust them). he would seize the white light power from the collective leaving the other four rangers with their original zords and coins to band together to take him out. Effectively, the four all give their morphers to the least trustworthy member of the group (even the ranger to which its his pesonal monster asigned). She fights through all the morphing powers to no avail.

they lie broken.

as the corrupted white ranger monster walks off, the broken ranger whips out a green ranger power coin, green candle and a lighter...they are about to light it...

series ends...

Jack was, like, my reason for watching. I wouldn't have really cared about SPD without him. The Pink Ranger I could take or leave. She had a pixie persona but was built like a female truck.

I like NR's idea... I would take it a totally different direction though.

I'd stick with a traditional team set up, raise the stakes to the destruction of the universe (in a single glorious event) as the villain's goal. Riddle the team with infighting (ie 2 of the 5 don't even want to be rangers for a while, giving the three man team effect at first).

Up the action investment to 'Forever Red' type stuff. The 'canon fodder' would be a challenge, 2 morphed to one opponent early in the season, five unmorphed to one. Later in the season, after the rangers get good, it could be one to one.

In a perfect world the final two episodes would be a war involving an army of rangers collected from throughout time and space, every season, plus a 'What If' team in the DaiRanger uniforms. I think there are 100+ if you count them all up. To save the universe. That'd be what it'd build up to. The season would be riddled with guest episodes... whole teams where logistically possible. Replacements where it befits the storyline. A traitor ranger team could be interesting as well.

Oh well...

besides the weapons they also kept the engine souls( no name so far for american version)

In Go-onger the engine souls are chips that that ranger insert into weapons and their mecha

The rangers mecha are living vehicles. The mecha jumped into our dimension and were split into "engine casts"(tiny versions of the mecha) and their souls became engine soul chips

With the engine soul back into the cast the mecha can grow large but only for 10 minutes.

Not very many people would agree with you guys about SPD being a great season. This is season is constantly ripped on because

1. Plots that were mentioned at the beginning and never mentioned again until near the end of the season. Such as Cruger's wife and the A-squad.

2. Way too filler episodes. I don't mind one or two fillers but I have to agree with this.

3. Not many focus for Z and Syd. Bruce Kalish has stated that because of unapriote(sp?) plots in Dekaranger they couldn't do for focus for the girls. This is a very bad excuse. If anyone here has seen Dekaranger they'll know that one of the episodes had a "Fight Club" theme which was used for SPD, but with a completly different plot. So there's really no reason why they couldn't make orginal plots so the girls could have more focus eps. Unless they were just too lazy to come out with there own ideas.

If I could control the story, there would be a lot more military involvement and more negative reactions toward the rangers from the citizens of the city the rangers protect. I always hated that no one mentioned how much property damage the monsters and rangers cause when they fight. Realistically, a monster vs. megazord fight in the middle of a city should be like 9/11 times 1000.

YES! I've always thought that the military would at least show up even if they let the Rangers handle it, and the destruction to the city would be catastrophic. In fact if you go back and watch the original ultrazord in action, you'll notice that when the whole thing comes together theres a random giant explosion all around it, which would presumably destroy like 3 city blocks... not too mention when it fires most of the shots seem to fire aimlessly into the sky or off to the sides and would hit something.

-As mentioned before in rumors, the visors will be adorned with element-based kanji (fire, water etc.)

-The suits are a mix of dairanger and gaoranger in desing

-Like Gaoranger , there is a patch on each rangers' upper right chest. The patch is said to resemble an oragami samurai helmet

-The suits are also said to give off an Ohranger vibe, because the visors are very original

-The belt buckles are rumored to be Japan's flag, the "Rising Sun"

-Each ranger will have 2 holsters. The right holster carries a sword.

RUMORS for Shinkenger
-The Shinkenger's henshin device may be in the same make as the DoronChanger. I believe it's called an inrougata, but I'm not sure. You can kind of see what could be it displayed on the belt in the pic of red's torso, opposite side of the katana.

-The rangers' suits may have capes

-The single robot changing forms with different weapons is mentioned again.

It's more like the Justiriser mecha line. The rumor states red's robot, a standalone mecha like RyuuSeiOh, will arm itself with the other rangers' mecha. It is unkwown at this point whether the robot will transform from the dragon, but I assume so.

So it's been rumored that the Shinkenger's mecha are in the design of power animals. This still holds true for this rumor, as far as one can guess. However, this rumor gives us a little more originality.

-The Shinkenger Robot will be armed with a simple sword, and modeled after a Samurai. This robot will be able to undergo form-changes by arming itself with different samurai armors which are transformed from the Shinkenger mecha-beasts. The robot itself may either be based after, or transform from red's dragon mecha.

-The first armor, used for fightining aerial enemies, is a lightweight type of armor. It equips the robot with a bow. It is likely this mode is ShinkenPink's, with the robot using the Crane mecha as armor.

-The second armor will be a more robust, heavy armor. While the robot itself is supposedly equipped for ground combat, it is likely this is referring to ShinkenBlue, and the turtle mecha. This mode will arm the robot with a Spear Weapon.

-The third armor gives the robot use of a Broad-Axe weapon. This is likely ShinkenGreen's horse-mecha mode.

-The fourth gives use of a Naginata. This is likely ShinkenYellow's tiger-mecha mode.

-The fifth gives the robot the use of a cannon. It is unknown what animal this represents.
