The Question
06-21-2005, 06:44 PM
I used to be big on sloth, glutony, and anger, but I've been working on thoes. Right now my main thing is envy. It's just that at my last school(I just graduated from middle school. summer vacation. YAY!) there were lots of kids who were more popular, had more money, and had talents in things that were considered cool. And on top of all that, the girl I had a huge crush on started going out with a friend of mine and didn't even give me a chance(and said friend knew I had a crush on said girl). My friend, the insanely talanted bass guitarrest, got the girl, and I, the aspireing comic book writer, is left out in the cold. Doesn't really help a guy's self asteem, does it? So yeah, I'm pretty envious. And I'm bitter! Don't forget the bitterness!

half of the 7 sins don't even seem like what a sin 'ought to be.
They're suppose to be the "seeds" that grow into true self-destructive behavior. When they're small, silly, dismissable habits, you wouldn't think to "weed out" that character flaw.

But, that small seed grows into constricting thorns that "block out the light". That's also why I like Jesus's parables and metaphors about the exact opposite: the kingdom of God is a spiritual condition that also begins as a small seed, but grows into a tremendous, picturesque tree.

If these two sorts of seeds grow in the human soul and mind in much the same way, it is up to us as individuals to decide which to pull up, and which to plant. Which is the weed? Which is the plant? It's up to you.

That, my friend, is rather profound. Yeah, the seven deadly sins, as vibe just said, aren't really that bad, but they can make you one grade A ********* if you let them consume you. Ex:A poor boy liveing on the streets becomes consumed by his anger and greed, and grows up to be a mob boss.

I think I prefer the Paracelsius approach. It's the Dose that causes a thing which is not a poison to become a poison. A balanced amount of the 7's is not a problem but as soon as you let them dictate you things become bad.

ok this does make sense, but without the "seeds" in there, a lot of these shouldn't be considered sins.

nice breakdown though, must've took 5 minutes.

Its not possible to go your entire life without comitting one of these sins...

I made this poll multiple choice and the Virtues one choice.

You can go your whole life without executing a virtue.

blind_fury

well lust destroys families by causing cheating and unwanted children.

Pride can cause a person to be too confident in one's own actions allowing them to do evil without questioning it.

Pride (This I believe is needed to have selfe confidence and to set boundaries)
Envy (You can always praise anothers acts I think)
Gluttony (This is basically "waste" which is not needed at all)
Lust (You need to please your body for it to survive)
Anger (Everyone can crack once in a while)
Greed (All people want more then they already have. Weather spiritual growth or material)
Sloth (EMO)

Anger and Lust.

Yeah, I become very angry and irritable, if someone tries to tease me. Another reason is my misfortune at the school (some teachers just underrate me).

Lust is my second sin. Sometimes I just can't stand form hot girls in my school (especially russian). And I start to stick to them, but as I have a girldfriend, I end up with stopping myself.

Still, I try to control myself.

Also I like to drink and sometimes I smoke.
