This is the official POTC 2 thread. Post anything new here!
This was shown at Comic-Con and it looks really interesting. Will it be CGI or a costume with prosthetics?

It's just the way he is. Nothing is ever good enough for him.
Anyway, Davey Jones doesn't look anything I'd imagine seeing in a POTC movie, but that thing does look pretty awesome. From other descriptions I've heard, such as Orlando Bloom letting it slip that a Kraken was going to be in it (I'm pretty sure that's what it was, but it's been months since I read it) this movie seems like it's going to have a monster theme to it. More giant creatures than curses.

you can say that again:( i like a little more reality in movies more now then ever now, thanks to nolan, im not crazy about overly fantastical things (cept LOTR's, that was GREAT!) but for POTC? dead skeletons are one thing, a friggin sea monstor is goin a little too far for my taste, i hope it isnt gonna be el dorky.

Johnny Depp was on Leno just a week or two ago and said he was currently filming Pirates' 2, and he even had his gold teeth in during the show. And Pirates' 2 and 3 are being filmed back to back so that they can keep the whole cast together for both films.
Whoever told you he wasn't returning, give him a nice swift kick to the shin.

No no no no no no no!! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!!!! Johnny Depp would be much better for Jean Paul Valley aka Azrael, and I'm not talking about the wimpy ass version of Azrael that got himself killed off. I'm talking about the Sword of Azrael era Azrael that was crazier than a loon. Johnny's got the sword skills to play him effectively.

Lee Boards Pirates of the Caribbean 3
Source: ComingSoon.net
August 1, 2005
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/reggieleepirates3.jpg
Reggie Lee (The Fast and the Furious) has landed a supporting lead in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=8627), directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Lee stars opposite Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Chow Yun-Fat as a villainous Pirate named Tai Huang.
Lee filmed some initial scenes with Depp in April while both sequels were filming concurrently on St. Vincent in the Caribbean. He resumes filming in late August in Los Angeles and the Bahamas through 2006. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=8627) is due in theatres in 2007.
Lee's character is involved in several of the film's stunt sequences for which he will undergo 'pirate training' in preparation. He looks forward to the physical demands of the role, which will be no problem for the avid athlete.
Lee recently wrapped filming the lead in the horror film Dimples, written by Dusty DePree and Ron Johnson and directed by DePree. The film is due in theaters in Fall 2006.
Lee has appeared in several films including Masked and Anonymous, Frankenfish and the upcoming feature X.C.U. (Extreme Close-Up.) He had recurring roles on television as Dr. Oliver Lee on CBS' Judging Amy and rookie cop Jim Chang on Lifetime's The Division and starred in the Fox series Luis with Luis Guzman.

Hmm... The title for Pirates' 3, "World's End" is starting to make a bit more sense. If it's going to have Asian pirates in it, then it probably takes place near asia, which was at one time reffered to as "the end of the world". Hmm...

First Pics From Pirates Sequel
Source: ComingSoon.net
August 22, 2005
The first seven pictures from Walt Disney Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6175) have been revealed. Directed by Gore Verbinski, the sequel will hit theaters on July 7, 2006.
In the action-adventure (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10901#) follow-up, Johnny Depp (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10901#) returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and is caught in yet another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. It turns out, Captain Jack owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones, ruler of the ocean depths and captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman. If Jack can't figure a crafty way out of this one, he'll be cursed to an afterlife of eternal servitude and damnation. And as if that weren't enough, Captain Jack's problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner (Orlando Bloom (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10901#)) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures.

Pirates Sequel Poster in Theaters
Source: ComingSoon.net
August 26, 2005
Walt Disney Pictures has distributed the first Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6175) teaser poster to theaters. The highly-anticipated first of two sequels, directed by Gore Verbinski, hits theaters on July 7, 2006.
This time around, Johnny Depp (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10980#) returns as Captain Jack Sparrow and is caught in yet another tangled web of supernatural intrigue. And as if that weren't enough, Captain Jack's problems throw a huge wrench into the wedding plans of the blissful Will Turner (Orlando Bloom (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10980#)) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), who quickly find themselves thrust into Jack's misadventures.

Found these really good Q&As.
Q: So is Keith Richards going to be in the sequel(s)?
A: So far, the Two Ts (Ted Eliott and Terry Rossio) have said no; Lately however, Johnny Depp has been saying in interviews that he’s hoping Keith will be in the third film. (KR can’t be in the second one because he’ll be on tour.)
Q: Wait a second… Why the heck is Barbossa back? Isn’t he, like, dead?
A: Apparently, Davey Jones has an army of the undead, which explains why he’s being featured in the two sequels. Also the monkey has nothing to do with Barbossa being in the sequel. He died when Jack shot him, and the curse was lifted. Only Jack the monkey is affected by the curse, since he took a coin directly from the chest.
Q: But, but – Stellan Skarsgard looks NOTHING like Orlando Bloom!
A: Stellan is getting, shall we say, an extreme makeover. (Myself, I don't know HOW extreme, because I didn't read the huge spoiler over at Ain't It Cool, but if you want to read what he looks like, head over there.)
Q: My cousin’s best friend’s sister’s boyfriend worked for a day on the set and he said that there’s a role for Jack’s long-lost daughter…so is it true?
A: No. No mention is made of any other members of Jack’s family. That whole ‘Cora Sparrow’ post IMDB has is a joke someone decided to play on gulible people who don't know that whatever info is submitted is never checked. That’s how the Rent page ended up with, ‘James Earl Jones… Tom Collins’, at one time. So say it with me THERE IS NO CHARACTER CALLED CORA SPARROW IN THIS MOVIE!
Q: Since Bootstrap Bill is in this movie, won't there be flashbacks, 'cause he's dead and all?
A: First of all, there are no flashbacks in DMC. Let me repeat: NO FLASHBACKS! Bootstrap Bill could have very well survived, given that he had years to untie himself from the cannon. Then again, he could also be somehow apart of Davey Jones's army of the undead, given that he wasn't just thrown underwater at first, but to the crushing oblivion of the deepest depths of the ocean....
Q: Who is Tia Dalma?
A: One creepy lady, that's who. She's a clairvoyant, a practitioner of voodoo and she's got a history with our Captain Sparrow. She also "sees something" in Will (paraphrasing anon22). Also, according to anon22: "Her role in the story is essentially that of a fortune teller, -someone that the main characters go to for advice on how to proceed in their quest. It's a relatively small role in Dead Man's Chest but grows more prominent in the third film."

Keira Knightley Reveals Pirates Scene
Source: MTV, iF Magazine
October 13, 2005
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2story.jpg
Keira Knightley (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11543#) spilled the beans to MTV (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1511401/story.jhtml) on a new character in one of the two "Pirates of the Caribbean (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11543#)" sequels.
"I had my first day back [recently], because we had a little bit of a break over the summer. My first day back was being dragged across the deck by an invisible giant squid, invisible because it's being put in by CGI afterwards," Knightley giggled.
"So I just spent the entire time pretending that it was tentacles everywhere, and the director was running around going, 'I'm a tentacle, I'm a tentacle.' It takes a little bit of an imagination; I have no idea what it's going to look like, but hopefully it'll be cool (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11543#)."
Meanwhile, the films (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11543#)' director Gore Verbinski told iF Magazine (http://www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=2416) that they are "a quarter of the way through the third one and three quarters of the way through the second one. It's madness (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11543#)."
"We actually have a pretty good second script and the third script is still on the operating table," he added. "And we're in triage constantly, everyday. I don't recommend making two movies at once. I think that we're going to get there, but it's just madness...There's a lot of fun and I think that the second movie is strong and clever and has a lot going on. The third movie we're still working on."
Verbinski also commented on the rumor that the production is still trying to get Keith Richards to play Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) dad in the sequels. "We hope so," he says. "We're trying to work out his dates. We all want it to work, but it's his tour dates and his lawyers."
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6175) will hit theaters on July 7, 2006, while Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=8627) is coming in summer 2007.

hmmm... sooo... I still don´t know if the two sequels are related to each other? i mean, like Back to the Future 2 & 3...
Because i don´t really like all this "filming both at the same time" deal... It sounds like we´ll be getting a "To be concluded" ending in the 2nd...
the Pirates sequels should be more like Indiana Jones. Same characters, different stories. That´s all.
(and in my perfect world... Will Turner and Elizabeth will die in the opening credits...)

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Set Visit!
Source: Andrew Weil
October 24, 2005
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set1.jpg
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6175) is bound to be one of the most anticipated films of the upcoming summer movie (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11591#) season. Touring around sets on the Universal Studios (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11591#) and Disney (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11591#) lots, ComingSoon.net was able to discover a few scant plot details, as well as see some incredible sets from the film (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11591#). We were also able to talk to Production Designer Rick Heinrichs and Visual Effects Supervisor John Knoll.
The tour started on the back lot of Universal Studios. While walking into the first soundstage, Stellan Skarsgård, who stars in the film as 'Bootstrap' Bill Turner, walked by. He was in full dress for the film, wearing pirate regalia, yet he didn't look like any worldly pirate seen in the first film. He looked as if a barnacle was growing off his shoulder and his face looked to be dripping off. The makeup was incredible to see. Also seen hanging around the set were cast members in all-grey spandex-looking suits, covered in small white balls. Their heads were covered as well; the only thing exposed being their faces. These cast members were obviously stand-ins for CGI models added in post-production. According to Visual Effects Supervisor Knoll, there will be 800 total visual effects shots for "Dead Man's Chest," compared to 326 made for "The Curse of the Black Pearl."
After this quick sighting, the tour promptly started with a look at the Flying Dutchman deck. The Flying Dutchman (click image below for a larger version) is a ship featured in the 2nd film and its captain is none other than Davey Jones (Bill Nighy). According to Knoll, "He's got a whole octopus for a face (and) a crab claw hand." Davey Jones also walks on a "crab leg," which is like a peg leg. The writers borrowed from popular Pirate mythology to craft their story and it was eluded that the crew all resemble each other.
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set2small.jpg (http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set2large.jpg)
Knoll elaborated on many details about Jones and his crew. "The design is really cool," said Knoll. "Him and his whole crew are collection of sea life. They are very complicated. It's actually like building one of the characters is like eight characters because they are a conglomeration of things. One character's got an eel growing through him… The longer you serve on the Dutchman, the more you sort of become of the sea. Someone who has recently joined the crews looks human, but someone who has served on the crew for 200 years doesn't really have a face anymore. It's a gradual placement of reprocess." (check out ComingSoon.net's exclusive image of Davey Jones crew member Jimmy Legs by clicking here (http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set3large.jpg)).
The deck of the ship was undergoing water tests, in which water cannons on the side of the set sprayed water on the main deck of the ship. The ship was very rickety-looking, with many barnacles growing on all sides of it. It was a dark brown color and the cannons looked rusted and moldy. The set sits on a gimble, which is able to make the ship tilt as if it is on the ocean. The scene that was shooting featured the aforementioned Nighy, Skarsgård, and Orlando Bloom (http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=11591#). The only details given was that the ship has been undersea for one hundred years and resurfaces to collect the souls of pirates that died at sea.
According to Production Designer Heinrichs, "The Dutchman is the most elaborate (ship). We are almost done building it. (It's) elaborately sculpted; it's not a floating barge." Knoll said, "The Flying Dutchman is going to be CG for wide shots cause its going to do some stuff we can't do with models." Knoll then describes the Kraken; a sea monster that will be featured twice in the film. "It's half squid, half octopus. (It's) just really big and it attacks the ship." Knoll also mentioned scenes taking place on "Cannibal Island."
http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set3asmall.jpg (http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/pirates2set3large.jpg)
The rest of the sets were on the Burbank Disney lot. The most impressive of the lot was "Bayou" set. Filling a rather large soundstage was an entire swamp (with a four foot deep tank of water), surrounded by massive trees (made out of foam) and two shacks. One shack was an obvious tribute to the Disneyland ride. The other was home to soothsayer Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris). Her shack overlooked the swamp and was cluttered with tons of props. The shack features a giant crocodile head, small lizards hanging, alligator skins, wax sculptures, crosses, spices, bats, and snake skins. The shack looked very rickety and looked to be made out of rotting wood. The actual bayou was huge; during the film, there will be boats in the swamp. Also, the scene will feature all principals of the cast.
The Black Pearl Captain's Quarter was next on the agenda. The set from the first movie was completely rebuilt. It also features more details than the first set. The Captain Quarters was built completely out of black mahogany, which is heavy, costly, and very authentic. There are gold-plated decorations and ornate candles in the film will light everything. The skylight in the set was made of glass imported from Germany from the early 18th century. The set is used only for interiors, with a Black Pearl sailing to St. Vincent for location shooting. Thus, every window is filled with blue screen.
The next set scene on the tour was the Port Royal prison that was featured in the first film. It is a newly constructed set, but the set was given the same look as the first. There are stone walls and iron doors, exactly like the original set. Also, the key-ring dog will return.
A new ship featured in the film is the Edinborugh Trader. The set on the tour was the Captain's Quarters of this ship. The set looked very different than the Black Pearl; much brighter and more sailing details. The set featured many maps and was built very close to scale for the ship. The actual ship used for location filming for the Edinborugh Trader is the HMS Bounty. It is being reformatted from the 1962 Marlon Brando film and is unrecognizable.
Finally, the last set viewed was two cross-sections of the Black Pearl. The entire set was full-sized and on a hydraulic system making it rock as if it were on the ocean. The two decks were the cannon deck and the underneath deck (or the sleeping deck.) The Cannon deck obviously feature gigantic cannons; five on each side. Everything looked very authentic. There was aged wood and rusted nails; everything was newly built for the second film. The set had a very dark, moody look. Also dark was the sleeping deck, which featured hammocks and many other random props (there were many bananas around for some reason.)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6175) opens in theaters on July 7, 2006.

Is it just me or does Davey Jones and his crew sound really cheesy?
It just seems a bit too much and almost comical.

Eh, maybe they can pull it off and keep the tone some what serious.

A bit more POTC news today:
Zizzle to Create Pirates Product Line
Source: Zizzle October 24, 2005
The box-office bonanza that made pirates cool again is back in action with the next installment of the franchise, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Everyone is back including Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski driving the ship. You will see fantastic action, new spectacular special effects and even more laughs than ever before. To accompany one of the most anticipated films of 2006, Zizzle LLC will deliver the first mass market toy line ever offered behind the Disney franchise, which encompasses the recently announced sequel and the yet to be named final film in the trilogy.
Zizzle, a team of proven toy marketers led by Roger Shiffman has come on the scene and are gaining momentum quickly. The company's first product launch iZ, an animatronic character and iPod(TM) companion has received acclaim throughout the toy business. Included in this year's "Hot Dozen" toys from Toy Wishes Magazine and more, it is being heralded as one of the most exciting things to hit retail shelves in years. Product development for Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" will be equally innovative, and marketing will seek unique, fun ways to drive Pirates at retail.
"The tremendous success of Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' caught retailers by surprise, and the inherent excitement for 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' combined with our fresh ideas on product development make for a powerful opportunity," said Shiffman. "The play pattern and property are the perfect fit for kids, and we hope to drive the business worldwide to a magnitude that few other major film properties have seen before."
Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" products, which will launch just prior to the movie release will include: action figures, play sets, role play, interactive hand held games, novelty electronics and more. The line will play off the incredible depth of characters, storylines, movie sets/locations and pirate fantasy. Highly detailed action figures will include all of kids' favorite characters, from Captain Jack Sparrow to Will Turner to the new villain character, Davy Jones. Figures and accessories will be launched in multiple sizes/scales and with built-in features from slashing swords to smoking cannons. Kids will be able to take to land or sea with different play sets, including an Ultimate Black Pearl ship measuring nearly three feet long! And, of course, role play toys will allow any child to become "one" with their favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, using all of his great gear.

And just because i felt like it:
Trailer description
First, we start with the Disney and Bruckheimer logos while we hear a bit from the 'Yo Ho, A pirates life for me' from the previous movie.
Then we see some flashes of some pirates gathering in a cave or a ship deck, couldn't really tell.
And then we see a the camera following a pirate captain from behind at a ship deck lightened by moonlight. We think that it is something similar to the skeleton pirates but then we see him turing his face to the camera and see that is in fact Davey Jones, and we see some of the CG work that he has (or you will since the trailer was in a small size)
Then we see Jack Sparrow staring at his hand, and in it a black mark (couldn't tell what it was, like i said small size) and while these last three things happen we hear a voice over from Davey Jones. I can't remember what he exactly said, it was something about Jack selling his soul or that his soul belongs to Jones, and then he said that his time is up and that he's now a marked man (that's when the mark appears).
To be continued...

Not sure if these are in exact order, but they do appear.
Then we see some shots of the black pearl (with white sails now) while Jack is screaming stuff to his crew.
Then we see some shots of action and stuff, nothing with much VFX.
And some texts that say "Never trust a pirate"
Then we see Jack beign tied on a stick an beign cooked on a fire by some natives (and jack trying to blow out the fire, ala Han Solo in ROTJ).
While this happens we hear Bootsraps Turner talking about how he can't talk his way out of this, and we see a flash of his face.
We see a british captain (Norrington?) talking something about how Jack has to settle on the main lands (or something like it) and then we see a shot of a large map.
Then some flashes of action and natives, i can't precisely remember.
Then we see Will Turner on the shore of an island (with one the pirates of the 1st film next to him, i think that was the one that hated 'parlay') that he won't leave without Jack. Then we see him on a beach beign chased by natives (a lot of them). Will then saying that they better leave.
Then some shots of action, something with a giant cage falling through the side of a hill, jack walking on cementery and falling on a grave, someone falling off a log bridge, some Elizabeth sword fighting, some jack and will sword fighting (not sure if it was in a carriage or in the previously mentioned cage).
Then we see the title and then it says 'Captain Jack is back' the credits and end trailer.
Sorry for the vague description (i might have missed some bits) but i only saw it once.
P.s: nevermind there's a thread with the trailer.
