'Frasier' comedy reruns become a legal drama
By Robert W. Welkos
Los Angeles Times
HOLLYWOOD -- How can a hit TV series as successful as "Frasier" gross $1.5 billion and yet be $200 million in the red?
That's the issue at the center of a recent lawsuit filed against Paramount Pictures by two talent agencies seeking answers to how "Frasier" -- the Emmy-winning NBC sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer that ran for 11 seasons -- can claim that it never turned a net profit even though it was one of the most successful shows in TV history.
For its part, Paramount Pictures said it believes the case is "without merit" and promised to defend its position vigorously. But regardless of who's right, the suit filed Sept. 29 in Los Angeles County Superior Court could offer that rare window onto one of Hollywood's juiciest disputes: profit participation.
Objections to the way studios divvy up the profits are rampant within the industry. And it's not just the little guys doing the objecting. Director Peter Jackson is suing over DVD profits from the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. But perhaps the most famous case also involved Paramount Pictures. The studio found itself embroiled in controversy over claims that the hit 1988 Eddie Murphy film, "Coming to America," had grossed $350 million, yet never turned a profit.
Such cases usually end in an out-of-court agreement, said attorney Pierce O'Donnell, who represented humorist Art Buchwald in the "Coming to America" case and went on to co-write a 1992 book titled "Fatal Subtraction: How Hollywood Really Does Business."
"The studios typically do not want to air their dirty-accounting laundry," he said.
The "Frasier" breach-of-contract suit was filed by the Jim Preminger Agency of Los Angeles and the Kaplan Stahler Gumer Braun Agency of Beverly Hills. The agencies represented Peter Casey and David Lee, and the late David Angell, the creative team behind "Frasier," which ran 11 seasons on NBC from 1993 to 2004. Angell died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.Source: http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/living/12989111.htm?source=rss&channel=centredaily_living

They're Back!
Just when I thought it was safe to go back to the dog park!
Famke's back! And her little dog Liquorice too!
I thought she'd left me and the other park people in peace. But there she was, complete with those over-sized dark glasses, fresh from filming X-Men 3 (and that whole Dark Phoenix debacle that's sure to be a major plot thread this time around).
It looks like this time she's back with a vengeance, and unless she has some extra X3 pickups she's here to stay (there’s nothing else currently listed on her IMDB listing, and, apparantly all her scenes on this season's Nip/Tuck were all cutting-room-floor stuff from last year).Source: http://newtola.blogspot.com/2005_10_23_newtola_archive.html

Boldly going where no bowling alley attendant has gone before
Movement on the job front today as ive got myself not one but two jobs! The first, i started on Monday, possibly the most bizarre job ive ever had at a bowling alley made in the 1930's called Commadore Lanes. I work for 3 chinese guys none of which can speak particularly good english. You'd thing my job wouldnt be so complicated, but im going to my third shift tomorrow and im in my myself, having to cash up the tills, fix the lanes (which break at least once every 30mins), clean the place, and work on two tills. Bit of a nightmare job really, but when your desperate for money what can u do :)
I also heard today that im starting at one of the 4 million starbucks in vancouver (seriously in a city the size of leeds theres probably about 50!!). This jobs probably going to be a bit better and for getting the job Ellie gets $50 for refering me which is excellent! Still looking for a "proper job" though. if i could get some marketing work id be looking at $12-18 per hour as opposed to $8.
The most rediculous thing did happen today though. Half way through my shift walked in a bald man with a dodgy Canadian accent wearing scruffy clothes asking where the pool tables were. I pointed him in the right direction and noticed he really looked like Patrick Stewart aka Captain Jean Luc Picard! The girl i was working with thought it definantly was so i went over and asked. He shook off his dodgy Canadian accent that he was obviously putting on and chatted away to me for 5mins. Not what you expect in a shoddy run down bowling alley on one of the scruffiest looking streets in Vancouver!! He seems a nice fella but soon left when i noticed who he was. Unfortunately he didnt tip me for his bottle of water but ill forgive him for that :)
Managed to make $20 tips today though which will go towards the Seattle fund! I've heard from reliable sources (Stenhouse) that its a great place but i think im more excited about who im going with rather than where im going :)
Anyway time for bed, leave some more comments itll give me something to read :)

Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind
Ok, so here's a thread where you can mention meeting any celebrities... But 'meeting' means a face to face encounter, preferably with speaking involved. I never met any celebrities until the last couple years, and suddenly I've met quite a few!
Anyway, this thread is in response to something that happened to me yesterday. On weekends I work part time at the Chocolate/Candy shop in a very popular, touristy public market in Vancouver. I was there yesterday, a very rainy day, bored, standing around.. mind wandering...
I glance over to my left and stare for a few seconds. 5 feet away from me there's a guy that looks like Ian McKellen buying organic vegetables. Wait a minute. IS that Ian Mckellen? No... Wait. It totally IS! That's sort of what went through my head as I realized that Sir Ian McKellen was standing right in front of me, in a long dark raincoat, with his hands full of shopping bags, buying some salad greens!
I started freaking out, sort of turning in circles, trying to say something to my co-workers but really just gesticulating. Finally I was like "I have to meet him. Now!" so I grabbed a 4-pack variety pack of Fudge, and walked out of my shop and sort of around him, so I could be sure it was really him. Just as he finished his transaction, he turns and he's facing me. I sort of babbled: "Uh Excuse me hi I work right over there, and I wanted to give you some free Fudge. I'm a huge fan!" He sort of looks down at the fudge in confusion, for about 2 seconds, then looks up and starts laughing, and he's like "Uh, okay! You want to just pop it in there somewhere?" (his hands were full) so I dropped the fudge into his bag. Then, he totally caught me off-guard by looking right at me and putting out his hand, and he said "What's your name?" I told him my name, as I shook his hand, and he repeated to himself then said "Nice to meet you,". Then I asked him if he was in town for X-Men 3, and he was like "Yup, that's right". Then I wished him a good day, and said bye. It was so hilarious, and completely surreal, I can barely believe it right now. I've met other famous people recently, but he's pretty much my favorite actor. I'm hoping he shops there regularly, and maybe I'll see him again next weekend.
Anyway, these are my other Close Encounters of the last couple years:
1. The Kids in the Hall (met them, got some things signed, 2 years ago)
2. The Trailer Park Boys (they came to my house for an hour, after my family won a massive radio contest last year!)
3. Andy Serkis (AKA Gollum. Went to get my copy of his book signed, and see him speak. Very nice guy).
4. James Hetfield (of Metallica, who I got to meet last year when my girlfriend at the time won a big contest for me).
5. Perry Farrell / Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction (one concert out of the hundred or so that I've seen.. But what set it apart is that, being in the front row, Perry Farrell handed me a bottle of Jagermeister which I drank before handing back to him. Then Dave Navarro came and gave me a high five... LOL).
Anyone else got any good stories?Source: http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?p=284389#post284389

SUPERMAN SIGHTING
Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk, the Super hot stars of the locally shot TV series Smallville, were both spotted at the Paramount movie theatre on Burrard Street in Downtown Vancouver late last week. But unlike their characters, they didn’t go to the movies together. Welling was spotted with a few pals, most likely going to see his latest feature The Fog, which opened at No. 1 but has since fallen to the No. 4 spot at the box office.
No word on what Kreuk’s choice was, but if she wasn’t out to support her costar’s new movie, I would put my money on the romantic chick-flick Elizabethtown starring Orlando “Ladies Love Me” Bloom. And guess who walked through Paramount’s doors the next night? None other than the legendary Captain Jean Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise.Patrick Stewart is back in town reprising his role as Professor X in X-Men 3.
X-SHOPPERS
Speaking of the stars of the blockbuster X-Men 3 sequel, love-struck couple Rebecca Romijn and fiancé actor Jerry O’Connell have been spotted all over town. Our latest sighting has them taking the dog for a walk and shopping for dresses at Vancouver’s Narcissist Design Co. on Main Street.Source: http://www.metronews.ca/uploadedFiles/Metro_Vancouver_1026_2005.pdf
That newly-built Paramount theatre really is a prime spot for star sightings isn't it? The only famous person i saw there was the gardener from Desperate Housewives, Jesse Metcalfe. :(

Exclusive Pics: Hugh Jackman Attends Vancouver Benefit
Art exhibit in support of Kenya's SHERP Orphanage
Last Wednesday evening (Oct. 26), actor Hugh Jackman – currently filming X-Men 3 in British Columbia – took time out to attend a benefit for orphaned African children at AutoONE Lease Inc. (http://www.autoone.ca/) in Vancouver.
The benefit was in support of "Moja! Moja!", an exhibition and art sale in which BC artists in partnership with the SHERP (Samburu Handicap Education Rehabilitation Program) Orphanage of Maralal, Kenya, have come together to raise much-needed funds to assist the orphanage.
The innovative show features interdisciplinary art that has incorporated the photographs taken by the children of the SHERP Orphanage. Several of BC's most distinguished contemporary artists are involved in the benefit, including Lisa Birke, George Vergette, Angela Grossman, Mark Mizgala and Christian Nicolay.
Susan Standfield, a Vancouver-born broadcaster who founded the Children's Photographic Gallery of Kenya (CPGKenya), partnered with Julie Lee of Arthouse, who in turn organized the exhibition and international art sale to raise the funds for SHERP, one of three orphanages with which CPGKenya collaborates.
HNR's own photographer, Paul Duchart, spent some time at the benefit, and had an opportunity to hang with Hugh Jackman during this important event.
"Hugh purchased a piece of art and spoke with its artist," Paul recounts. "They were also selling orange t-shirts [Hugh holds one in our gallery of shots] for $100 with photos that the children took. All the proceeds are going to CPGKenya project. The goal for CPGKenya is to be able to invest $50,000 CDN per year as a fee paid to the orphanages for their services, with the long term goal of building the Children's Photographic Gallery in Nairobi, Kenya, which will act not only as a gallery, but a job training facility."
"It was not announced," Paul continues, "but the PR company told me Hugh paid for the small group of children from the SHERP orphanage to come and visit BC/Whistler. They said he [Hugh] wanted to stay off the radar for the evening, so a select group of media attended. He was most gracious and accomodating to all that approached him, and enjoyed the evening with his wife, Deborah Lee."
In HNR's gallery of photos (accessible by clicking on the picture at the bottom of this page), Hugh is seen with the founder of the Children's Photographic Gallery of Kenya (gold sash) Susan Standfield, an orphan, and Hugh's wife, Deborah.
CPGKenya is a for-profit business that generates revenue for Kenyan orphanages through the sales of photo-based products made with art supplied by Kenyan orphans. All revenue is split in a fair-trade partnership. The organization aims to educate others about the business model, transfer job skills to the children, and bring foreign investment into Kenya.
We encourage you to take a moment to visit their site at www.cpgkenya.com (http://www.cpgkenya.com/).
You can also call 604-726-7826 for further information.
The exhibit is available for viewing at AutoOne, 1755 West 3rd Avenue (at Burrard) in Vancouver, between 6:00 and 9:30PM, Oct. 27 to Nov. 26, 2005.

24 seconds with Hugh Jackman
By Darren Parkman
One of the stars of the hugely successful X-men movies is becoming downright comfortable in Vancouver these days.
Hugh Jackman, back here shooting the sequel X-men 3 was out on the town recently, lending his support to a Vancouver artist's exhibition benefiting African children. 24 hours' Darren Parkman was on hand to chat with the charitable Aussie.....
24 hours: A lot of fans are looking forward to the next X-men flick. How is filming going?
Jackman: I've worked all over the world and I have to say the film crews here in Vancouver are phenomenal. Things are going great. It's a great city to make a movie in.
24 hours: You've spent a lot of time here in the past few years. Is this becoming your home away from home?
Jackman: It really is. Vancouver reminds me of my home town, Sydney, Australia. It's family-friendly, the food is great, and it's easy to get around. What more do you want?
24 hours: You're a passionate supporter of a new fundraising effort involving Vancouver artists. Tell us about the Children's Photographic Gallery of Kenya.
Jackman: It's a great idea where local artists create works by interpreting photos actually taken by orphans in Kenya. This is a self-sustaining business. These kids are not asking for a handout. They are working for their money.
24 hours: Any plans to visit Africa yourself?
Jackman: I can't wait to get there and visit their orphanage myself. It's a great cause.

Ellen Page
Raw talent busts out in gritty Mouth To Mouth
By CAMERON BAILEY PHOTO BY STEVE PAYNE
http://www.nowtoronto.com/graphics/general/critpick.gif MOUTH TO MOUTH written and directed by Alison Murray, with Ellen Page, August Diehl, Maxwell McCabe- Lokos and Eric Thal. 97 minutes. Playing at the Moving Pictures Festival Of Dance On Film And Video, Friday (November 4), 7:30 pm, at the Royal Cinema (608 College). Continues November 11-18 at Camera Bar (1028 Queen West). Rating: NNNN
This time next year Ellen Page might be a movie star. Or she might grow into one of the best actors of her generation. Or both. Right now she's just a girl sitting in a Parkdale restaurant grooving on the tunes they're playing. She's tiny, and with her engineer's hat pulled tight over her eyes she looks even smaller. As soon as I walk in she yanks off the hat. It's a surprising move for someone so clearly shielding herself from the world. But then, that's Page – massively sensitive, suddenly bold. It's what movies feed on.
So this time next year she'll be a name. That's when 20 million people around the world will have seen her in a full-body leather suit playing Shadowcat in X-Men 3. Others will see her tear up the screen in Hard Candy, as a girl who takes revenge on a pedophile. But real fans will track back before her Hollywood debut and her American indie breakout to her first leading role, Mouth To Mouth. Playing a girl seduced into a street-kid cult in Europe, she shows all the torment and vulnerability that could catapult her to stardom – if stardom is what she wants.
Mouth To Mouth gets a special screening at the Moving Pictures Festival this weekend, then goes on to a run at Camera Bar. As Page's director, Alison Murray, makes her way to join us at Mitzi's Sister, the 18-year-old actor explains what draws her to the intense roles she's chosen.
"It's juicy, man!" she exclaims. "All these characters, they have balls!
"If I read something and it grabs me, I just wanna go for it."
Putting herself in the shoes of her parents reading the script for Mouth To Mouth, she admits, "It would be scary for anyone to have their daughter go off to shave her head and have sex on acid and stuff like that. But they believe in me, and I'm really lucky to have that." She laughs, "They're good kids!"
For Page, shooting Mouth To Mouth in Portugal and Berlin changed her life.
"I'd never even gone to Europe before," she begins. But then the music in the restaurant changes and she stops cold.
"I love this song," she says. "It's The Anthem Of A 17 Year Old Girl, by Broken Social Scene. Emily Haines from Metric sings it? When I turned 17, I was very excited because I was like, 'This is my song!' And I'd be all mellow and angsty walking down the street listening to it."
That was a year ago. Where were we?
"When I first met Alison, I was really scared," Page recalls. "She just intimidated the crap out of me. I was like, who is this lady? We were about to start a very intimate process: my first time in Europe, I was 16 years old, I was doing things on film I'd never done before."
After shooting Marion Bridge years ago with director Wiebke von Carolsfeld, Page found herself again befriending her director on Mouth To Mouth.
"I really like to bond, because I can get really emotional, really neurotic, and I really, really want to be able to trust someone," she says. "I have to admit it is better with women, because I guess I feel safer, especially shooting more delicate material."
Not that this movie is in any way girly-girl. Page's character is a raging street punk, and the film draws on Murray's background making aggressive dance films in the UK. Every now and then, little shards of choreography jut their way into Mouth To Mouth, which is why it qualifies as a Moving Pictures entry.
Page has no dance training ("I was always a soccer player"), but she recalls spending a day with Murray in Lisbon "listening to Queens of the Stone Age and hopping down the street." She and her director were finally in sync.
Murray shows up to join the conversation, and it's instantly like two sisters punching each other on the arm.
"Are we friends?" Murray asks Page.
"Are you kidding?" Page jokes back. "You're such an *******!"
"I've tried to get Ellen to leave me alone," Murray deadpans. "I tried to change my number."
The sparring is both sharp and loving, and it hints at what Page and Murray have been through together. The European shoot was hard enough, but Murray also wrote a sex scene for the 16-year-old Page and Eric Thal, the man who plays her cult leader.
"I felt horrible making her go to this place," says Murray. "Her character consentingly, but through a lot of coercion and manipulation, gives up her virginity to this horrible man who also happens to be, like, three times her size. I felt like a pornographer. It was a really unpleasant experience to watch that. But I didn't want it to be comfortable or pleasant for the audience to watch either. It's not supposed to be remotely titillating, and I don't think it is."
On the night of the shoot, Murray recalls, "I wanted to get it over with quickly."
"That didn't happen," Page interrupts. "It took so ****in' long. And those cobblestones were cold."
Clearly still a raw memory. But "ultimately," Page says, "it's a pretend sex scene. Boo hoo. And I was getting paid to do it. And I wasn't actually being penetrated." She laughs awkwardly and pauses. "It seems silly to dwell on it."
Murray has nothing but praise for her actor.
"She didn't filter or hide her confusion, her pain, her uncertainty," she says. "That's what I needed from the performance. It's her ability to stay open and show those things that makes her so good to work with.
"There's an urgency to teenage experience that I certainly remember and that I think Ellen brought to making the film. It's to do with the newness of being in the adult sphere, and the importance of everything that's happening to you because it's the first time.
"So that was really exciting to have. As a jaded 30-something, even though I wrote the script there are some things I couldn't create on the screen on my own without Ellen. There were some things I couldn't even tell her to do as a director. She found those things, and then there they were in front of me."
That's why Murray isn't anxious to see Page become a movie star.
"I think she's better than a movie star," she says. "There's something sad and whorish and plasticky about movie stars. I wouldn't want to see Ellen turn into one of those."
"I don't think she approves of my latest decisions," Page interjects.
But Page is glad that X-Men 3 director Brett Rattner saw her in Hard Candy and that she's getting the blockbuster experience.
"It's very different from what I'm used to," she says. "You'll have four cameras shooting at once while 30 explosions go off and Hugh Jackman's smoking a cigar."
And, she adds, "I never pictured myself in a leather suit. Who does?"
But "it gives me a lot more opportunity," she insists, to do her favourite thing in the world.
"I just love it so much," she says about acting. "When I get passionate, I'll give you everything until I collapse. That's not in any 'Look at me, I'm a saint' kind of way. It's very selfish in a way. I'm doing this really awesome exploration, and it's like a drug, because I completely disappear." MOUTH TO MOUTH (Alison Murray)
Rating: NNNN
Ellen Page stars as a teenager sucked into a street-kid cult in Europe. It's a terrific performance by a young actor on her way up, showing layers of aggression, fear and euphoria rarely expressed with such immediacy and precision.
Even better, director Alison Murray uses the cult story to tap themes of belonging common to any kid. Though the story has the intense feel of a European underground film, the conflicts are universal. There's also some surprisingly effective use of movement to say what words sometimes can't. Mouth To Mouth is brazenly original, and a dead-on portrait of a young woman looking for an alternative. CB

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - William H. Macy, Helen Hunt, Christian Slater, Joshua Jackson and James Marsden have been enlisted for "Bobby," Emilio Estevez's project about the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
Estevez's father, Martin Sheen, and Joy Bryant are in negotiations to join the project, which Estevez wrote and is directing.
The film chronicles the intertwining lives of a grand cast of characters at Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel in the hours leading up to Kennedy's assassination. Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Elijah Wood, Lindsay Lohan, Shia LaBeouf, Nick Cannon, Freddy Rodriguez and Brian Geraghty already are cast in the film, currently shooting in Los Angeles. Estevez also has a role.
Macy plays the hotel's manager, and Slater is the bigoted food and beverage manager. Jackson ("Dawson's Creek") plays the head of the Los Angeles chapter of the Youth for Kennedy brigade, while Marsden ("Superman Returns") is a man whose brother is being drafted into war.
Sheen would portray a wealthy East Coast financier staying at the hotel with his wife (Hunt). Bryant ("Get Rich or Die Tryin"') will play a switchboard operator.

Patrick Stewart to Bring A Christmas Carol Back to London Stage
By John Nathan
November 15, 2005
Patrick Stewart is to take his adaptation of A Christmas Carol to London's Albery Theatre for a run of 23 performances beginning Dec. 6. Stewart’s award-winning one-man show will replace the 16 ducks that are featured in the highly anticipated but poorly received Ducktastic, which is due to waddle off the Albery’s stage after a truncated run on Nov. 19.
Stewart’s version of the Dickens classic — which the actor adapted for the stage himself — was first seen in New York after which it transferred to London’s Old Vic in 1993.
The show — in which Stewart portrays every character in the novel from Tiny Tim to Ebenezer Scrooge — won an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor.
Stewart became an international star playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the "Star Trek" film and television series. In cinema he has continued his sci-fi roles playing Professor X in the “X-Men” movies.
Before he became familiar to television and film audiences, Stewart was, and still is, a highly rated stage actor with many Broadway and West End performances to his name. His Royal Shakespeare Company roles include Shylock, and more recently he appeared in West End revivals of David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre and Ibsen’s The Master Builder.
Ducktastic was originally booking until July 15, 2006. Like the hugely successful The Play What I Wrote, Ducktastic was created by Right Size duo Hamish McColl and Sean Foley and directed by Kenneth Branagh. It leaves the West End after only one month.

Not to be outdone, Wolverine Hugh Jackman is of course shooting on the X-3 film. Brett Ratner is keeping the sequel's budget at a modest $200 million clip. Take that Brian Singer who's Superman is balooning to $250 million. [24 Hours]Brett Ratner, currently helming the X-Men 3 movie here in town, is going to add photographer to his resume when he shoots the new Jimmy Choo campaign. The Defamer: "The visionary Ratner plans to douse both Richie on Hatosy in gasoline, set them ablaze, and have them repeatedly crash into each other until one of them explodes. The images, of course, will be stunning, with the resulting pile of smoldering Choos creating a biting commentary on the emptiness of luxury consumerism. During America’s first introduction with Ashley Hartman, (as a top 32 contestant on American Idol season 2,) viewers immediately agreed with Simon, Randy and Paula when they made comments such as, “you look amazing,” “you’re absolutely drop-dead gorgeous,” “you are stunning,” and “I see a movie star and television star.” Ashley was soon recruited by casting director for The O.C. to guest star in a series of episodes. That summer while filming her episodes, Maxim magazine chose Ashley for a feature that would not only introduce their readers to her, but also represent the show in their magazine. She also appeared in a group of other magazines including W, YM, People, US Weekly, Newport Health and Pop Star! Since then, Ashley became an exclusive model for Girlactik Beauty, Hurley International and Electric Visual Sunglasses. She became more involved in modeling and started high profile runway shows (including the Magic trade show) and fashion shoots. She continued to pursue her acting career and filmed two films, Abominable and Mystic Blood: The Kindling, and appeared on the hit FOX comedy, Quintuplets. Ashley created a buzz when she was declared one of Maxim magazines "The Five Most Gorgeous Girls in Hollywood" earlier this year. She joined the likes of international movie stars and icons such as Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba and Keira Knightley. To top it all off, she also started a management/production company called Go Big and a talent services agency called Star Born Talent. She is currently signed with Nous Models (one of the leading modeling boutiques in LA) and Star Born Talent. Ashley has never lost her passion for music and has been crafting and working on her album with world famous singer/songwriter Leah Andreone and her production partner Kevin Fisher at the Los Angeles recording facilities at Warner/Chappell Music. She is very excited and enthusiastic about releasing her music to the public.

To top it all off, she's currently writing a book for young girls on finding themselves, defining their goals, being confident, achieving their wildest dreams and being successful.

PARAMOUNT CELEBS
Movie theatres were a very busy place over the weekend with Harry Potter fans coming out in droves to earn the latest edition of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire just over $100 million at the box office and to no one’s surprise take the No. 1 spot. However, what was a surprise to many braving the lineups at the downtown Paramount theatre was the arrival of Shawn Ashmore who went to the movies on Friday. The Richmond native is best known for his role as IceMan in the X-Men movies, and is filming X3 in Vancouver right now. The local actor also received rave reviews for his recent portrayal of Terry Fox in the M.O.W. celebrating his 25th anniversary entitled Terry.
Later that afternoon I had a star sighting of my own when I noticed Mathew St.Patrick, formerly of the hit HBO series Six Feet Under, in the lobby with a female companion. One of the movie-goers mentioned to me that when he recognized the actor, he kindly asked him not to blow his cover and
smiled. St.Patrick is currently filming the new TV series Reunion where he plays a detective investigating a murder at a high school reunion.Source: http://www.metronews.ca/uploadedFiles/Metro_Vancouver_1123_2005.pdf

>>Honour for Oz duo
AUSSIE actor Hugh Jackman will be honoured by the Australian Government at a gala dinner in Los Angeles.
The star of X-men and the Broadway hit The Boy from Oz will join Olivia Newton-John as the guests of honour at a black tie dinner during the Australia Week promotion in LA, in January.
LA-based Australian Consul General John Olsen said Jackman's award was a recognition of his achievements as an international star of screen and stage.
Singer Olivia Newton-John will also be honoured at the dinner and will have her award presented by her Grease co-star John Travolta.<<<
It'll be a kick for Hugh since he once told a story that he used to have an Olivia Newton-John poster in his bedroom and when Travolta introduced her to him he was speechless! Plus of he co-starred with Travolta in Swordfish so that should be fun for him.
Also, the AFI Awards were held last night in Melboure, Australia, hosted by Russell Crowe. It was reported that Hugh was featured as a presenter by satellite (I assume from Vancouver).

Hills Have Eyes Too Intense for the MPAA
Source: Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk/news/story.asp?NID=17611)
November 30, 2005
Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk/news/story.asp?NID=17611) talked to The Hills Have Eyes (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=10607) remake producer Wes Craven, director of the 1977 original, who says helmer Alexandre Aja's version is so intense and gory that the MPAA has given it an NC-17 rating for now.
"It's a very strong picture and we're trying to figure out what to do with that, without ruining it," Craven said, "We have to deliver an R rating."
Story spoilers ahead! If you're wondering why, Craven says that the mutants' attack on the family in the trailer from his film remains in the remake but is considerably amped up.
"It's intense. Very intense. The attack on the trailer in my film was horrible, but it was over fairly fast," adds Craven. "This one goes on almost ten full minutes. It's fairly faithful to the original, but Alex added other things that also make it worse, what's happening to these people. It's protracted. It's a long, slow process rather than being a chaotic, relatively fast process. It's just too much for people that have to rate it, by a mile."
While cuts are still being made for the R rating, Craven says you can expect the more intense version on the DVD.
Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film on March 10. It's the story of a family road trip that goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carters soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually the breeding ground of a blood-thirsty mutant family...and they are the prey.

Patrick Stewart appeared as a surprise at the launch party of ITV's new tv series "Eleventh Hour" which he stars in. I have been told by one of my friends that he was EXTREMELY defensive of Brett Ratner and ranted quite a bit about that. It was brought on after being asked whether or not he could say anything to allay fans' fears about the new director. I am trying to find out more about what he said but its difficult as my friend wasn't expecting Patrick to be there and didn't bring his dictaphone.

Today SFX was at the press launch for Patrick Stewart's new TV series Eleventh Hour, which airs on ITV in January - and was surprised by a guest appearance by the star himself (so surprised we didn't have a dictaphone handy - curses!).
As well as chatting about X-Men 3 (he was very defensive about new director Brett Ratner), he also discussed the possibility of a return to his most famous role, Jean-Luc Picard.
Following the box office failure of Nemesis, Stewart's been saying he believed the franchise was dead in the water for ages, but it seems there's been a turnaround, because he revealed there've been lots of serious meetings lately about a new film, and there are money men who want it to happen.
However, he also made it clear that he's signed up to working with the Royal Shakespeare company for the next 16 months, so even if another Next Gen film did get greenlit, he wouldn't be able to start filming it until after that.

Few days earlier:
Back to work on Xmen 3 for me. Man, they've got money to burn on this one. We sat around for 11 paid hours yesterday and got in about 4 seconds of actually filming. This is the best job I've ever had.

From TrekToday, re: Patrick Stewart --
Patrick Stewart popped in for tea and scones at a radio talk show, though he was a bit distracted awaiting the results of a Huddersfield football match - which might be why he couldn't remember many of his own lines, including the last words he spoke as Captain Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Chatting on the Chris Evans Show on BBC Radio 2, Stewart was introduced as "Captain of the USS Enterprise, star of X-Men and all around great British thesp" as he sat with his tea and preserves, admitting that he had been spoiled filming X-Men 3 by 20th Century Fox, which had dispatched him an assistant who found his favourite brand of coffee despite its scarcity in Vancouver, where much of the film was shot.
When a caller to the show asked whether he had recently been in Alcatraz Prison, Stewart admitted that he was, claiming at first that he had visited it with his girlfriend who had never seen it. But then he admitted that he was at the prison for an X-Men scene, though he said that he had been sworn to secrecy about the details of the film. "Alcatraz does in some way figure in the story," he confessed. "There was some talk of having the premiere there, but I think that's been dumped."
I want an assistant. :o

Exclusive: Professor X On His X3
Sequel is 'startling' says Stewart
http://www.empireonline.co.uk/images/point.gifhttp://www.empireonline.co.uk/images/point.gifOh – my – God. As if Empire Towers hadn’t seen enough arm-flapping enthusiasm for one morning with the arrival of the Pirates trailer, we talked to Patrick Stewart to confirm a few details about the long-delayed but much-anticipated X-Men 3.
At last night’s BIFAs, Patrick Stewart, aka masterful bald cogitator Professor Charles Xavier, has said his character will be upping the hardcore ante in the film. Firstly though, he assured Empire that the film was going to happen at all, despite the late start: “Well we lost two directors! But everything was fine when I left the set. I’ve finished my filming now and it’s all looking great.” Phew, that’s alright then.
We asked him about a potential Dark Phoenix plot to the film, to which he looked very mysterious but wouldn’t give anything away except for a rather intriguing smile. (A Dark Phoenix shaped smile? Oh go on…) He did however drop a few tantalising tidbits about Professor X's fate in the second sequel: “You’d need about an hour to hear all about it. There are going to be some changes. Professor X is now very, very startling, very surprising. It’s all very exciting.”

19th Dec 2005 - 2nd Dec 2005
Wednesday i was back at Tahera, and by Wednesday night i was told that i was working Thursday on the set of X-Men 3 being filmed in Vancouver. It was a night shoot, so i had thursday off to try and get my sleeping pattern right.
I arrived last night there at 5pm and some of the bigger name actors on set were Famke Janssen, who is pretty hot, Sir Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman. It is a pretty major scene being shot right now and however after 12.5 hours of sitting around in the holding tent, i did not manage to make it on set. I got paid to sit around, eat free food, read books, talk crap with other extras, and listen to music. Notm many of us got used due to weather problems (snowing), however i am back on sunday to continue to shoot and make my cinematic debut. Tomorrow see's me in my 1st daysshoot starring in 88 minutes alongside Al Pacino in downtown Vancouver. Well i will hardly be starring but i will at least be there and be getting paid to eat again amongst othert things. I am not at liberty to say anymore however as i have been sworn to secrecy over the wheelings and dealings of both major hollywood productions. I think i may find it difficult to go from day to night shoots, but as long as i can stay awake i can;t really get fired. Was a strange feeling getting home at 7am this morning and heading off to bed until 2pm.
This weekend otherwise looks quiet again, which is good for the bank balance, a quiet movie maybe, a dvd to watch and an excursion to the gym as i sit and wait the pending outcome of my future here in Vancouver.
Until the next entry, see you on the message board.

Well, I didn't get a call time to be back on the set of X3 yesterday. I think I figured out why. It's snowing, actual snow in Vancouver in November! Shocking. El Nino, you've done it again. Caily is thrilled. She's never seen snow before. As a life long Canadian, I find it hard to share in that joy, especially considering this isn't real snow. There's barely 3 inches on the grass and man is it wet. Killer iceballs, though. Hooray, a day off! Though I'm not sure what our three resident bunnys, Sketchy, Roach, and Higgins, are gonna do. I think they scared off the skunk from under the garage. Also, Evan's Bong De France is finally complete and is ready to destroy anyone who comes over. It's quite a nice piece. I got 3 offers to sell me weed walking home with it. Ev's real proud. Did you know I couldn't use the whole word "****" in the title because it's "prohibited language?" You guys have to understand...we Vancouverites are afraid of snow. We panic and cancel everything when we see one snowflake. Sad but true. :D
Kelsey Grammer told The Continuum he remains hopeful that the Legend of Isis movie, from his Grammnet Productions, will be made.
The film, set up at Paramount Pictures where Grammer has a first-look deal, was announced last December. Ali Russell has written the script.
"They keep telling us that it's too expensive," Grammer told The Continuum.
"I really like it, though. I'm hoping it's something we can get through."
Blue Water Productions' Darren Davis, creator of the comic, told The Continuum he is encouraged with the film's development.
"The new head of the studio really likes the project and they are finsishing up the final draft of the script," he said.
Grammer is currently filming X3 in Vancouver. The first view of him as the blue-skinned Beast will be on Monday when the film's trailer appears online.

In one hand, I don't believe IMDd because it's made by the users' contributions. Anyone can go there a write whatever he/she wants to.
In the other hand, if this is true perhaps we'll see some students' parents in the Anti-mutant demonstration. Many of the parents aren't aware of their children being a mutant (Iceman in X2), so it would be a great scene those parents in the demonstration and their kids watching TV and recognizing them -or vice versa: the kids using their powers and their parents looking at them half amazed, half afraid. Very dramatic.

No, M has several more powers than Ms Marvel did, and just putting her in the movie for Rogue to steal her powers it total contrivance and would be a slap in the face of fans.
What we do know, is they are doing a spin off of the X students, so it could easily be a build up to that, so not all the characters in that will be completely new.

Bleh, I would hate that too. Again, too contrived. If they want to do something like that, do it in a situation and with a character that would matter. Borrow some of Juggernaut's strength and use that. Or better yet, if you really want her to imperss people, have her borrow multiple powers, and use them all at once. That's what will impress people, not just giving her powers to make her look like a version of her that isn't relevant to the movies.

Having fun: Sir Ian McKellen as Widow Twankey at the Old Vic
Panto's grandest Dame
By Nick Curtis, Evening Standard
9 December 2005
So, I say to Sir Ian McKellen, you're 66 now. You've got the classical theatre career and the knighthood. You've become a late-flowering but energetic blockbuster action hero - you've got your Lord of the Rings tattoo, and you're just back from filming the third X-Men movie.
You've campaigned for gay rights, and civil partnerships for same-sex couples have just been enshrined in law. You've been in Coronation Street, which was a long-held ambition. And last year you played Widow Twankey in Aladdin at the Old Vic, which was another. So why on earth are you doing it again?
"Because I enjoyed myself so much!" booms McKellen. "It was everything I hoped it would be. I'm dreadfully sentimental about the theatre, and believe that it's good for me and good for anyone who gets involved, on-stage or in the audience. Pantomime sums up that spirit and magnifies it so much that you just feel you are in a situation where love abounds."
He launches into a detailed and convincing theory about Dames being direct descendants of Shakespeare's cross-dressing actors, and of panto as a cathartic experience recalling pre-Christian celebrations of misrule and chaos. But basically, he loves Aladdin because it's a good old family knees-up, and because, after years of roles that required received pronunciation, he was able to plant his Twankey firmly in his native Lancashire.
Ian Murray McKellen was born in 1939 in Burnley and brought up in Wigan, where his father Denis worked as a civil engineer. His Dame is not based on his mother, Lois (who died of breast cancer when he was 12), or on his stepmother, Gladys (who is still alive at 99), because they were "petite, very feminine women".
Initially, he looked for inspiration to the "hard-working, sexy, juicy" mill women who terrified him as a boy. But in performance, he was surprised to realise that his Twankey had quite a lot in common with his sister. Jean McKellen was five years older than her brother, took him to see his first Shakespeare play, Twelfth Night, and remained a keen amateur actor and director until her recent death.
"My Twankey wanted to go into showbusiness, then got sidetracked, as many people do, by marriage and having children," McKellen explains. "Jean introduced me to the theatre. She was the actor before I was, in school. She died the year before we did the pantomime - we think it was a stroke, but she fell down some steps at night and banged her head and never regained consciousness - so she couldn't see the show."
He gives one of those familiar, bittersweet smiles. "I don't think she would have approved. She had a clear idea of the kind of actor I was and it didn't include pantomime or Coronation Street. I didn't consciously base my performance on Jean, but there is one photograph outside the Old Vic of me cosying up to [co-star] Roger Allam, shaking my leg, and I look exactly like her. I looked at it the other day with moist eyes and I thought, Jean is still with us, through Twankey."
After Twankey, he will appear next year in a new Mark Ravenhill play, The Cut, at the Donmar. Then, in 2007, will come the part known as the actor's Everest. McKellen quotes - and does a rather good impression of - Ralph Richardson: "I seem to have got my foot caught in a Lear," he says.
When the RSC asked him to play the part in their cycle of Shakespeare's entire canon, he asked his friend from his Cambridge University days, Trevor Nunn, to direct. Now he's casting around for another play - "maybe a Chekhov, in which I wouldn't have a major part" - to pair with the tragedy for a year-long tour, and begging the notoriously timeprofligate Nunn to keep the Lear under three hours.
"For the audience's sake as much as mine," he insists, "but theatre is really a young man's game. I find the most demanding thing about acting is committing to an emotional state which isn't my own: it's draining, night after night."
This admission of weariness is a surprise: the one thing McKellen has never convincingly acted is his age. "You can't get to 66 and have a sibling who is not much older die, and not be aware of your own mortality," he says. "I can't any longer take good health for granted."
At around the time of his sister's death, McKellen went for a chest X-ray which revealed some shadows on his lungs, prompting him finally to give up smoking and take up Pilates, even though it was later discovered that the shadows were his nipples. Then, just before starting in Aladdin, cancerous cells were found in his prostate.
"You can do three things: leave it and monitor it; have it cut out, or have radiotherapy," he says. "I went for the radiotherapy option, but I said, 'Look, I do have to do this pantomime first.' When I went back at the end of the run, the cancer had gone." He smiles: "Dr Theatre!"
Not only his health, but also his romantic situation, makes McKellen think of the future. Although he has had two long-term relationships - with teacher Brian Taylor when he was 25, and with Aladdin's director Sean Matthias in his forties - he currently lives alone in his Thames-side house.
Would he like to be civilly partnered? "Yes, yes," he says, "I just wish they had legalised gay marriage instead, but I don't put out of the question the idea that I won't take advantage of it in the future. And if I were a generation younger, I might consider what I never have done, which is having a family." Really? But you always said you would make a wretched parent. "Yes, but I think that was me comforting myself, accepting the situation that I wouldn't be allowed, legally, to have a child."
Is he lonely? "There are advantages to living by myself," he says. "I can do what I want when I want. But to know there is someone waiting for you through thick and thin is appealing. The older you get, the more you wonder if you really want to be living on your own. I talk to friends of mine, most of them gay, who are on their own, and they are all a bit worried. We wonder whether we shouldn't all decide to live together in some sort of commune. I think I would enjoy that."
And with that prospect cheering him against the vicissitudes of age, he heads back to the community which has always embraced him, the theatre. Source: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/theatre/articles/21154330?source=Evening%20Standard

From The Telegraph:
A man in a suit makes the best Scrooge ever
(Filed: 09/12/2005)
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/graphics/2005/12/09/btcarol199.jpg
'There aren't many actors left like Stewart these days, actors who can speak with such exemplary power and clarity'
Charles Spencer reviews A Christmas Carol at the Albery Theatre
It's turning into the Dickens of a Christmas. Yesterday I welcomed the RSC's gripping and deeply moving adaptation of Great Expectations in Stratford. Now Patrick Stewart has beamed himself into London's West End with his mesmerising solo version of A Christmas Carol.
Stewart won an Olivier award when he last performed it here back in 1993, and one readily understands why.
The show offers a chance to see a great actor at the very top of his game, completely in command of his material (he adapted the piece himself) and spinning potent theatrical magic out of thin air. He clearly loves Dickens, and he beautifully conveys that love. More importantly, he takes a story that is often regarded as twee and sentimental and finds its darkness as well as its radiant light. A Christmas Carol may be a short book: Stewart leaves no doubt that it is also a great one.
He comes bustling on to the stage with the energy of a man who can't wait to get started, dressed in a modern suit and a shirt, and starts arranging the few props - a lectern, a stool, a table - which together with a few lighting effects are all he needs to bring the story to thrilling life.
You notice at once that there aren't many actors left like Stewart these days, actors who can speak with such exemplary power and clarity. When he declares: "Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner", every word, every syllable, is made to count. He relishes all the glorious energy, flavour and humour of Dickens's prose, and Scrooge suddenly seems to stand before us in all his grotesque glory.
He has the perfect face, too. When he smiles, Stewart can look genuinely benign. But when he scowls, that shaved head, ascetic face, those hooded eyes and cruel mouth can seem unforgettably sinister. The famous "Bah, humbug!" becomes a growling rumble of festering malignity. But he also captures the character's terror, and the final glorious melting of his frozen heart, with equal, high-definition precision.
In the course of the show, Stewart plays some 40 characters, ranging from the falsetto innocence of Tiny Tim to the disgusting squalor of Old Joe, the greasy rag-and-bone man in his filthy lair. Has the ghost of Marley ever seemed more pitifully sad, the joy of the Cratchits' Christmas celebrations more touchingly merry? I beg leave to doubt it.
Stewart also proves a virtuoso when it comes to pace and mood. There are rapt passages here when the whole audience seems to be holding its breath as Stewart lays bare the darkness of Scrooge's soul and the terrible urgency of turning it to the light. But then he will suddenly relax into humour and vitality, picking up the narrative thread, barreling through the action and imitating the chimes of the bells ("Ga-doing, Ga-doing") with almost childlike enthusiasm.
There's a particularly extraordinary passage at the end, when Scrooge finds himself safely back at home after gazing in horror at his own tombstone. Suddenly the most ghastly choking noises start emanating from Stewart, and for a moment I feared the actor might be suffering a seizure. In fact, it is just the sound of Scrooge learning how to laugh again, and he laughs until he cries.
Stewart is giving only 29 performances of A Christmas Carol, and I can't recommend it too highly. Amid so much that is cheap and tawdry at this time of year, this is a show that unerringly finds the heart of Dickens's Christmas message about the joys and responsibilities of our common humanity.

Dec. 09, 2005
Painkiller Jane
By Ray Richmond
9-11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10
Sci Fi Channel
"The Bionic Woman" lives on with "Painkiller Jane," a two-hour backdoor pilot for a Sci Fi Channel original series that proves to be slick, intelligent, reasonably entertaining -- and blessed with an alluring lead.
Based on the Event Comics series of the same name, it stars Emmanuelle Vaugier ("Saw II") as Capt. Jane Browning, an Army Special Forces type who gets exposed to a powerful biochemical weapon during an anti-narcotics mission gone terribly awry. She's killed along with the rest of her unit, except that five days later she miraculously awakens fully healed from her fatal gunshot wounds and in possession of all sorts of inexplicable physical and mental powers. She runs like the wind, has superhuman strength, can plot chess moves like nobody's business and, well, you know the drill. Think of her as Lindsay Wagner without the Ford campaign.
Anyway, poor Captain Jane is plenty freaked, confused and uncertain about where or to whom to turn. Her commanding officer and mentor Col. Watts (Richard Roundtree) keeps her locked up like a lab rat in a top-secret medical installation. Bio expert Dr. Lucas Knight (Tate Donovan) has motives that appear sketchy at best. So she turns to a crook specializing in hot merchandise (Eric Dane) as her confidant. It's all a little bit twisted, yet it works niftily in the well-constructed "Painkiller Jane," which sets up our heroine as a covert crime-fighting agent who doubles as the next link in mankind's (and womankind's) evolutionary chain. Not the most secure lifestyle, but hey, it beats being in the ground. Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/reviews/review_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001657625

24 hours in the life of Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer Sutherland meets the press in Tokyo. PHOTO BY HIROYUKI NOMURA
Sutherland is currently in the middle of season five of "24," with 12 episodes already shot. "Everything becomes a blur once the new season kicks in," Sutherland replied when asked about highlights during the course of shooting the previous season. "But one thing I remember clearly is the actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo, who played a Muslim mother. Her acting was really impressive," he said.

Extra speaks a little about his experience with Berry and others.
From Stevedow:
5th Dec 2005 - 11th Dec 2005
Life to be honest has been a little bit routine for me the past week to two weeks, which is kind of similar to how it was with BC tree services, yet even more so as there is less to do outside of that routine due to time constraints. Routine for me consists of this on a daily basis.
(listed in a way that is of more understanding to you normal folk working a normal day)
6:30am: Most of you get up and get ready for work.
Me: I get home from work generally and go to sleep
9am: You, at work
Me, sleep
12pm: Lunch for you
Me, call from my agent, gives me rest of days details, back to sleep
2pm: You, back at work, giv'n ha
Me, rising for the day
2:30pm: You, obviously still working
Me, probably checking emails, basketball scores, sports scores from all over the world, arranging lifts to and from work, calling friends etc breaking up their work day.
3pm: You, Work, maybe a smoko break?
Me: Either off to work for a 3:30pm call, or off to the gym for a bit of a physical thrashing
5pm: You, leaving work, if not at 4:30pm, or if you are a real professional, complaining of your work load and inability to leave work at a normal hour
Me: Off to work for sure now, if not, then i am running late and risking getting fired or yelled at by my boss, who is the military advisor on set and former US Army, not a good guy to be yelled at by.
6pm: You, dinner, gym, home doing some r and r
Me: Suiting up in army kit, going through make-up, hair, and props. Begin playing Crib, reading books, listening to music, studying the canadian health system, talk crap with fellow workers
8pm: You, R&R
Me: Probably on set by about now, running around doing crazy stunts, hanging out with hollywoods finest actors, standing in this freezing cold costume outside in 0 degree temperatures with Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Kelsey Grammar etc for 3-4 hours straight shooting the same scenes over and over 35 to 50 times.
10pm: You, Bed or close to it
Me: Working on set or back in holding doing the above
12am: You, sleep
Me: Lunch!!!!!!!! Crazy as it sounds, lunch. Huge meal, all catered for, curries, chicken, steak, salad's, lamb, veal, you name it, its there, and all free.
1pm: You, Sleep
Me: work
5:30am- 6am: You, sleep
Me: Getting wrapped for the night or about to be wrapped. Home to bed. End of the day.
Based on all that, it gives you some kind of idea of the lifestyle of a famous hollywood personality such as myself. Not being allowed to reveal any information on the script of any of the major motion pictures i have been working on, it is hard to give details of the goings on in and around the set so i hope the above kind of covers it for those of you who are curious. I can say in my vast experience now working with the best of hollywood, Al Pacino is the consumate professional, and a perfectionist with an unbelievable gift to deliver the same line in aboutr 20 different ways at the drop of a hat and make it sound compelling, yet also deliver the same line exactly the same way over and over again, with the same tone, pitch, emotion, expression as the previous attempt, a very difficult task to master. Try it, i guarantee you will struggle with this.
Hugh Jackman is a legend, typical aussie bloke, looking to goof around on set and very talkative, and down to earth. Kelsey Grammar, a very funny man, pretty dry and satirical like his tv sitcom characters. Halle Berry, don't really know, doesn't talk to us cos there have been weird incidence of idiotic extra's in the past making complete fools of themselves and getting restraining orders heaped on them. Experiences like these doesn't instill people with confidence in other members of the same group, so it's fair enough she stays away from these guys.
On the whole, the people i work with are great, but there is an element, and a reasonable element of pretentiousness amongst some extra's on set, for some reason they feel the rank that they wear on their uniform actually applies when the camera's aren't rolling. Yes, my ran is a private and i am the bottom of the heap, but just cos you have major on your chest, it doesn't mean ****, we are all extra's, all the bottom of the heap pal, get over it and focus on your own job. Alot of them feel they are also going to be the next big thing, all with aspirations to be actors, which is fine, i have no problem with that, but for every harrison ford that got picked out of background acting, thewre are 25 million other extra's who didn't, yet they all cling to this hope of being the next one picked. It's not going to happen, if you want to act, go to drama school, do theatre, audition for big parts, don't stand around the background trying to kiss ass. A bit of a moan, but its ridiculously obvious, especially when someone tells me they were in happy gilmore so they know more about it than me and have some type of authority over me. That was possibly the funniest thing that someone has said to me all year.
This was the reference it was in:
Guy: You didn't put that stunt dummy back properly, the sleeve isn't covering the arm properly, you know the camera can pick that up don't you?
Me: Whatever buddy
Guy: Well, they cgi over it,
Me: Let them then, someone comes around and does it for us anyway (pulls the sleeves down)
Guy: Well, i was on happy gilmore, i have been doing this for a long time and i know they get ****ty when you don't do it properly.
Me: Get a day job. (I didn't say that, but should have) I just kind of looked at him strangely.
Overall, this job is the funniest, craziest, best job in some ways that i have ever done. Yeah, i get disrespected by pretty much everyone in the industry apart from the highest echelon, (actors and directors, who are all really personable, in my experience) but i do 13 hour shifts that fly by, get paid to play cards, study, eat constantly, and have a laugh while running around in crazy costumes (and i love dress up pub crawls and fancy dress stuff anyway, so its good for that).Source: http://www.getjealous.com/stevedow/diary/110098.html

Helping hands to Kenya
By GRAEME MCRANOR, 24 HOURS
Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee were in attendance Sunday night at a local fundraiser for the SHERP (Samburu Handicap Education and Rehabilitation Program) orphanage in Kenya.
The fundraiser, hosted by Abdul Ladha at his home after his daughter Sabrina brought the cause to his attention, was organized by the Rafiki Fundraising Society, a society formed by a group of Collingwood High School parents to support the orphanage.
The Jackmans recently sponsored two orphans and their teacher to travel here for the MojaMoja art exhibit, which raised funds for a new well at the orphanage.
The SHERP orphanage is currently home to more than 80 children.

>>When I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last month Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry were in the audience. I saw Hugh when I was backstage after.<<
A response (note: DRS is in the same theater that The Boy from Oz was in, and star John Lithgow has Hugh's old dressing room):
>>So that was what the staff who was manning the merchandise booth at the Imperial was talking about when I saw the show last week. It seems that when Hugh went backstage, everyone from the crew (and cast) came over to talk to him...so much so that John Lithgow opened his dressing room and said out loud "Aren't you going to allow me to talk to my guest?"

Hey Madeline. Thank you soo much for all of your kind words, love and support. It really means a lot to me. I’ll try to answer a couple of your questions: about all of the boyfriend rumors, I really can’t believe people make up the oddest things. I have never dated James Franco or any of the other actors you listed. Between you and I, I’m currently dating an actor named Brandon. He’s playing the lead in a movie releasing next year. It’s gonna be “super” =) Please show him support! Before him, I haven’t had a relationship for about a year or two. “Abominable” should be releasing early next year. Keep checking my website for that. I have no idea how you can backorder magazines I’ve appeared in. I’m really sorry! We are trying to keep it as precise as we can and inform everybody on the site when I’ll be in a magazine, and the Maxim swimsuit issue comes out this month. So today, I wake up. Coffee is made, and a photography magazine awaits (I went to London Drugs last night and found a $20 bill in the parking lot, so I treated myself to the December edition of Outdoor Photographer, and a tin of Tiger Balm. Bad Back.) So I open the magazine, and the phone rings. "Hmm.." I say to myself. "I thought I predicted the Cruise Line call would be around 2:45pm today...and its only 11am." It was a talent agency here in Vancouver that I applied for a few days ago. Apparently I am working on X-Men 3 tonight and tomorrow as a Soldier. Holy $#%!

Celebrity Spottings
Must be the day for celebrity sightings. Or at least for others, not me.
Chris helped Ben Foster (Six Feet Under, X-Men 3) at his job today and they're shooting Da Vinci's City Hall around our office as usual. So we have Nicholas Campbell and the crew running around again. Local actor Nolan Funk was in to shoot an audition today. He's a hard working actor who we see a lot of here. I think I heard him say he was auditioning for Aquaman.
The holiday parties continue, although we haven't been to any since Sunday. Tomorrow night there's another one for one of the bigger agencies that is always a lot of fun, and on Tuesday is my seasonal favorite where you can spot some of the bigger name Vancouver celebs.
Sunday night we saw William B. Davis and Tom Braidwood (X-files, The Lone Gunmen) among other local actors who we vaguely recognized.

True, but the shorter the schedule the more money FOX will have to spend to get it ready on time.
Plus you also have to consider that they may cut scenes (like with Singer) simply because theres no time (and money) to shoot them.

From Abbotsford Times:
Pretty woman pretty nice
By Christina Toth - Staff reporter
Abbotsford barista Brandon Jonah must have a few horseshoes tucked into his back pocket as far as meeting the rich and famous goes.
He ran into Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts while he was in Seattle two weeks ago and even got a photo of the two of them with their arms around each other. He was walking through Pike Place Market with some of his colleagues from the Clearbrook Starbucks coffee shop when someone said they spotted Roberts. Jonah found her half a block away with one of her twins and her husband Danny Moder.
"I was the only one lucky enough to find her. I came up behind and said 'Excuse me, Miss Roberts. I'm from Canada and this never happens to me,' and I asked if I could have a picture with her," he said.
She agreed, but when Jonah first passed his camera to her photographer husband, Moder dropped it. Jonah was so nervous he didn't even realize he had his arm around Roberts until he saw the photo.
"My hands were shaking. But she was so friendly. She gave me a smile. It's an excellent smile. It was an experience I'll never forget," said Jonah.
Earlier in the day, Jonah and 15 of his colleagues were chatting with billionaire Howard Schultz, the founder of Starbucks. "We went for a tour of the facility and roasting plant, and we met him in the conference and asked him questions."
Jonah's celebrity-spotting luck is far from gone. On Saturday Jonah said "hi" to Famke Janssen, who plays Jean Grey on X-Men, while he was in Vancouver. And another X-Men 3 actor, Vinnie Jones, was spotted at the Sumas Way Starbucks two weeks ago, Jonah added.

Aussie A-lister Hugh Jackman has been getting into the festive season, as shooting of X-Men 3 winds down.
Jackman was recently seen enjoying some snowy rest and relaxation during a weekend getaway in Whistler.
He was spotted strolling through the village, before stopping into Lush cosmetics, perhaps looking for stocking-stuffers for wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
Jackman may be hanging around our area a little longer than expected.
X-3 was set to wrap shooting this month, but production has been extended into the New Year.

(IMG:style_emoticons/darklook/biggrin.gif) Well...I had loads of fun at the X-Men 3 Wrap party last night. Had my picture taken with "Famke Janssen" (Jean Grey). ...and one of the many many background performers playing mutants.
The wrap party organizers went all out, ice sculptures, door prizes, unbelievable food ,DJ and of course the infamous "out takes" screening. It was great to meet all the rest of the crew from all locations and finally to all get together and chat about upcoming projects. (Wolverine etc..)
Most of the cast is back in the US for Christmas break (IMG:style_emoticons/darklook/sad.gif)
Everyone agreed that we think this will be the best X-Men yet!!!!
Even though they have had the wrap party they are still filming until late January 2006.

Famke was very gracious, as beautiful as you see her on screen....very tall to my 5'1 she must be 5'10 ?
She was constantly smiling and saying hello etc to all she knew and meeting others like grips/contruction etc that she did'nt know. I walked up to her introduced myself and asked if I could take a photo with her and she said "Sure" .....no hesitation.
She thoroughly enjoyed the "out take" presentation as she is featured in a scene with Wolverine etc.
She danced and talked with all etc. Very classy lady.

When I posted those pictures of Ben working out for X3, the program they were taken from said that the trainer he was using was the same trainer that Halle has used for several of her last films. It's not surprising that they'd work together now that they're filming the same movie.

Who knew the lives of people we barely know could be proportionately and infinitely more interesting than to our own...? :D
And reading the bit on Famke Janssen - wow, she sounded great, elegant and stylish.... Oh my god, I rarely compliment a lady...! ;)

He's a VCA (veteran character actor), broadcaster, former deejay and producer and does voice work. But I didn't know Doug Lennox was an author.
"Neither did I," he laughs, over beverages upstairs at Bistro 990, the downstairs spilling over with Christmas lunches.
He is author of Now You Know, The Book of Answers, volumes 1 through 3. The first two were national bestsellers; the third just hit the market.
Volume 3 features answers to such seasonal questions as: Why is an altered alcoholic drink called a "mickey?"
How did the poinsettia, a Mexican weed, become associated with Christmas?
Considering his workload, how much time does Santa spend at each child's home?
No free samples. You'll have to buy the book to find out.
The books are based on scripts from Lennox's nationally syndicated radio show Now You Know. He is also in the 12th year of his radio program Life in the 20th Century, featuring daily 90-second time capsules of historic moments recorded in music and sound during the 20th century. It airs in this market on CFRB and reaches an audience of more than a million Canadians throughout the country.
His radio career started in 1968 when he took over the overnight slot at CHFI. He has written, produced and directed countless radio and TV programs and worked with everyone from Juliette to Ronnie Hawkins.
"History fascinated me," he explains. "When I became a deejay, I found out-of-date records that had been shuffled away — the CBC archives are especially awesome. The stuff was shoved in a corner."
Lennox made copies and squirrelled them away in his house. "I can't throw things out," he admits. "Don't look in my closet. Thirty years later, I had wonderful stuff. I started a program with Standard Broadcasting and people were interested in stuff like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig interviews. I ran the interviews wrapped up in a nice, concise program and they won a lot of awards."
And while he was archiving the material, he inadvertently became a social anthropologist. "I came across customs, habits, expressions and phrases. I'd come to our technicians and ask, `Do you realize where that came from? Now you know.' That was the kicker line."
He assembled all this arcane info into digestible, bite-sized 30-second feeds and marketed them as Now You Know, which features the etymology of phrases like eenie meenie miney mo: "It came from children watching the Druids choosing the next human sacrifice," he explains. "They were the big `it.'"
Lennox started acting in 1980 at the age of 40. His credits include 60 films and TV programs including X-Men, Against the Ropes, Police Academy, Nero Wolfe, Sins of the Father, Harlan County War and Mercy. He is the voice of Harvey's hamburgers.
He has worked with everyone from Meg Ryan to Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). In fact, he recently finished X-Men 3 in Vancouver, reprising his bartender role.
"Hugh Jackman and I did a scene for three days," he recalls. "It's at the end of the movie. In the first one, I was at the beginning of the movie when we discovered Wolverine's claws after he gets into a fight." On Jan. 7, he appears on the NBC series Darcy's Wild Life.
"I'm playing a big, heavy guy scaring the kids, a major part in my life," he chuckles. "One little freckled kid who was 8 or 9 years old said to me, `You are really a good actor.' I think because as the day evolved, he discovered I was really acting."
Lennox was born in Sudbury.
"Lois Maxwell told me, `If by some strange accident, your parents had gone to L.A. instead of Sudbury, you'd be a rich man.'" He joined the army in 1959 after his father's death.
"I dropped out of school when I was 16 after my dad died. I dug holes in the Trans Canada Highway and worked in the mines."
He was about to join the Mounties but friends dissuaded him, encouraging him to join the military police instead.
"I went down to sign up with my buddies but I was the only one accepted. I ended up in the Gaza Strip for a year of duty with the UN emergency force.
"I did a lot of things. I was a private investigator; I sold everything from business machines to health insurance."
He should write a book about his life. "A lot of people tell me that," he allows. "But I can't assume to be Margaret Atwood. How could I dare — though my story is the story of my country. Take the expression, `Think outside the box.' I was born outside the box. You went all through school and graduated with several degrees. The box is your education. And that is why things interest me; I learn through observation. Here's my definition of the film business: "The writer is the architect, the producer is the contractor, the director is the builder and the actors have to live in the house."
And the agents clean up.
At the end of the movie-does that mean wolvy leaves the x-men,or could he return later on and stand before the memorial like it happens in the trailer.
The scene is at the end of the movie? Let the speculation begin!

3 days? Why would it take that long?
He says he only did the scene with hugh so why would wolverine go to canada on his own? Then again if it took 3 days to shoot...grr need more information!
Maybe some of it was filmed outside and the weather was bad-so they had to delay shooting.

In X1 he told Wolverine to get out of his bar, maybe this time after whats happen and everything the bartender may invite him in?
That or wolverine gets attacked by everyone in the bar. Maybe because of the wolverine movie, logan leaves the x men for a while and heads back to canada. He goes back to that bar to get himself a beer without realising where he is and and Albert A Bartender goes all "OMG WTF FReAk!!" and everyone attacks him for what happened in san fran. Cue fight scene which ends with logan walking out, getting on his bike and taking off into the sunset ready for the spin off film

I like the consistency and the fact that they are reintroducing old characters...
It might be for a flashback. I think the scene will be near the beginning when Wolvy is at Alkali lake - maybe looking for Cyclops whose glasses he finds, or Jean's death place, or answer about his past (you know the things.)
Where abouts is the bar where we first saw the barkeeper in X1? Do we know roughly?

MELBOURNE and Sydney have become paparazzi paradises as Hollywood A-listers return to spend Christmas with family and friends.
X-Men star Hugh Jackman arrived at Melbourne airport yesterday with his sister.
It was a down-to-earth family affair as the siblings were picked up by their parents.
Jackman obliged an excited fan by posing for a photograph before the group left in the family Commodore.
Jackman, the youngest of five children, grew up in Sydney's North Shore. His wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, is from Malvern.
This will be the first Christmas for new daughter Ava, adopted from Texas soon after her birth in July.
Jackman and Furness also have an adopted son, Oscar, 6.
Jackman has spent the past few months in Canada filming the third instalment of the X-Men series.
The bolded quote from Lennox said it was at the end of the movie.

There was another report that said he was spotted shopping in Harrod's in London before he arrived in Australia so he probably stopped there first to visit family that lives there - I believe his mother and at least one sister lives in England. Sounds like his sister traveled home with him to Australia (where his dad and other siblings live). I think this is the sister that was in the gag reel and whose husband is Hugh's stunt double.

I have nearly just crapped myself. I have just been watching something about monkeys who have been given names like Frodo. Then I start flicking through.
I hear a voice. Its Patrick Stewart. Sat down. He starts talking about science. Then it shows blood rushing through the veins. By this time i'm . There is Requiem for a Dream music in the background. I'm still like
I thought FOX had started their X-Men 3 marketing early! Turns out its for his new TV drama called 'Eleventh Hour'. Patrick filmed this before he went over to Vancouver to film X-Men 3.
Heres a bit of info about it:
Eleventh Hour (2005)
Production: TV Miniseries
Producer: ITV and Granada
Director: Terry McDonough, Roger Gartland
Scriptwriter: Stephen Gallagher, Mike Cullen, Simon Stephenson
Cast: Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen
Film Role: Professor Ian Hood (lead)
Synopsis: Professor Ian Hood is called in by the British government to tackle disasters caused by modern science. Eleventh Hour is an investigative series set against a background of contemporary science. Every story involves a human crisis, and every crisis arises out of a current scientific development. The stories are tales of suspense, races to avert disaster, the stories of individuals caught up in the unforeseen consequences of progress.
Filmed in Manchester, UK from May to July 2005.
UK Airdates on ITV:
Episode One - January 19, 2005
Episode Two - January 26, 2005
Episode Three - February 2, 2005
Episode Four - February 9, 2005
Sounds exciting.
There is an article about this show in Novembers SFX.
Shows writer Stephen Gallagher describes Stewart´s character as a mixture of Professor Challenger and Bernard Quatermass. :D He´s an emeritus Professor of Physics working as Special Advisor to the government´s Joint Science Committee.
Sadly, no aliens. :)

Had to add one more thing...The other night when Casey was here she said she saw Famke Janssen (Jean Grey in X-Men, House on Haunted Hill, Nip/Tuck, etc.) walking out of my uncle's building with her dog. I was like, "are you sure? I don't think I've ever seen her here before." So I just went down to the laundry room in the building and was putting my stuff in the washer, when she walks in. And it was absolutely unmistakeable. Like, you couldn't even say like oh it kind of looked like her...no it was definitely her. And she is freakin' tall. Anyway, she was all confusified because someone took her sheets out of the dryer and folded them so she thought someone might have taken them. She was like, "Would someone really steal your sheets?" I was like, "I hope not." But then she figured out they were hers and took them. It was strange. And no I did not say, oh I know who you are, or, can I have your autograph. Thats like way rude when you're living in their building. So that was my adventure of the day. Just wanted to share that

You can hear the most interesting things on movie sets. I like talking with the stars about their craft but I also really love hanging with the crew. When I was up in Vancouver a few weeks ago for "X3" I hung out with the director, Brett Ratner and his enthusiasm for his film was so uninhibited that I wanted him to edit the film then and there so I could see it. I don't have the patience to wait until this summer. I also like sharing lunch at Craft Services with the guys who handle the dolly cranes and fetch the stars their double shot with whip espressos. They have seen it, done it, and still love the business. They just want to make a movie and hopefully a good one at that.

X-Men 3 star Hugh Jackman is leaving Vancouver in top shape, thanks to five months of hard training in Burnaby.
Jackman was recently spied pumping iron at the Performance Institute gym, in preparation for his next big movie role, the spin-off feature Wolverine.
Trainer Steve Ramsbottom says the Aussie actor worked out an hour and a half daily to gain 15 pounds of muscle for his super hero role.
Jackman has also been spotted sweating through the grueling Grouse Grind hike during breaks from his workouts.

There's been drama behind the camera as well as in front with X-Men 3, with the original director, Bryan Singer, bowing out to do Superman Returns. Then his replacement, Matthew Vaughn, dropped out because of "family conflicts", to be replaced by Brett Ratner.
"There's no reason this should worry the fans," says Stewart. "It's true, by the time Brett came on board it was almost too late to start pre-production. You can imagine a film like this requires a lot of preparation.
"But Brett, in every possible way, hit the ground running with this project. I do know that everybody is working just 48 hours ahead of what's being prepped, and the pressure on them is enormous. But the script, I believe, is the best of the three."

From P3 Production Update:
Illinois
• Joliet prison, one of the last of its type, has been closed for years, but it is now seeing some activity as a location for the Fox TV drama Prison Break. The production obtained permission to film exteriors there-- mainly prison yard footage. There is also filming at a studio in Chicago. The producers felt there was "a certain grit and authenticity at Joliet that couldn’t be duplicated on a sound stage in Burbank, California."
Coincidentally, one of the producers, Brett Ratner, is in Vancouver filming X-Men 3, but he has a live feed on his set to communicate with Prison Break creator-producer Paul Scheuring. Ratner is available for opinions and advice, and says "I love watching the dailies this way."
Joliet will be seen in every episode, and producer Dawn Parouse says "half our shoot takes place in Joliet because it is so great to work there. We have a stage that we use there and we are going to build more. It’s so hard to reproduce what has that authenticity."
Prison Break is an eight-day shoot, with half of them filmed in Joliet, and production will be there all year. As expected, the producers received great assistance from the Chicago film office, which noted that the prison has been cabled for use as a set. The State of Illinois has also put the facility up for sale.Source: http://www.p3update.com/content/454

Romijn Praises X3's Ratner Rebecca Romijn, who reprises the role of the blue mutant Mystique in the upcoming third X-Men film, told SCI FI Wire that director Brett Ratner had a completely different directing style from the franchise's previous director, Bryan Singer. "[They had] different energy levels," Romijn said in an interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her new WB series, Pepper Dennis. "Bryan sort of quietly orchestrates how the scenes work, and Brett is very exuberant and over-the-top. A lot of energy."
X3 wrapped filming last month in Vancouver, Canada, and Romijn said that she hasn't yet seen any of the finished footage. But she added that she is looking forward to seeing how Ratner's vision will translate to the big screen. "These movies are so interesting, because when you read computer graphics and special effects or fight scenes on the page, you never have any idea what it's going to look like," she said. "So I'm going to be just as curious as everyone else to see the result."
Romijn said that her character, a shape-shifting mutant who serves the villainous Magneto (Ian McKellen), will have about the same amount of screen time and action scenes in the third film as she had in the first and second. "With the costume, there's only so much I can do in any of these movies," she said. "There are always 15 or 16 principal cast members, and so when you break it down, I never had that much to do. And I'd say I have about the same as I've always [had]." X3 is scheduled to open on May 26.
