Yep I am subscribed....I noticed in a previous email you told a person who is not involved that they could vote. Is this a possibility for anyone, because I am not sure if I like the idea. Someone could contact all of their friends and get them to vote for their characters....

JewishHobbit
07-25-2005, 07:01 PM
I'm okay with voting from outside of the game but be warned that if I get even the slightest hint of someone bringing in friends to vote for them then I will not only ban the voter but the person who got them to come in and vote for them as well. I'm sure there will be warnings but I'm not a very forgiving when it comes to cheaters or bullies. Getting your friends in to vote in general is fine as long as I can see that they aren't being biased toward you. I'm friends with just about every one of you but I don't want you to vote for me based on that. This is a gentlemen's game and I want it to remain like so.

It says at the beginning of each voting thread. Last voting day is Wednesday, I believe.

Yeah, I PMed everyone who had matches this week on Friday night, same time I set up the matches. (In fact, I now notice that hardly any of the pictures I posted showed up. That hopefully won't happen, as Nightwing was really nice to help me out and sent me pics and bios.)

Well the voting will end on Wednesday night (my time here in Ohio currently 11:55pm as I type this). I don't know exactly what time but it'll be late, probably around 11:00 PM (after "Lost" goes off :))

Off Topic: Are you a Lost-aholic too JH? Do you go to the ABC forum?

JewishHobbit
07-25-2005, 11:45 PM
Well.... I wanted to watch it when it first came out but because it came on when I was at church and I don't have a VCR I just couldn't. Then when summer started it started to come on an hour later so I could catch it. So now I'm about 6 or so episodes into it and my wife and I are both 100% hooked. I doubt it'll run full before season 2 starts so I plan on buying the DVD as soon as it comes out to get caught up. It's the only thing on tv that I watch. I hate tv and only watch 1 hour of it a week.... and that's Lost!

But yeah.. I'm a Lost Junkie now! (Don't ruin anything for me. I already got the death ruined,... NO MORE!)

Trust me you don't find out much...I watched it religiously and watched the repeats in between the new shows. There is a couple of answers solved but a whole lot more unresolved. After you finish watching last year's shows go visit www.spoilerfix.com there is a lot of neat information there, as well as other shows.

But anyways...So there is still one full day of voting...you got anxious to start the voting, didn't you JH?

Haha...I just started watching the reruns of Lost, too. I missed the first episode, and decided way back when to wait for the reruns. Plus, my other shows were interfering with it. I'm really enjoying it, though.

Thanks for that, I'll look into it. And I didn't really want to vote so early but I had gotten a few questions on how to vote so I just went ahead and did it so everyone could see. For now on I plan on waiting until just before I close the voting late Wednesday night.

It's definitely got some good information for next season. AND don't worry they don't go full blow out spoil any information. It simply states vague information like "Michelle Rodriguez" will be in season 2 as more of a main character.

Actually what I meant about the early voting was that I thought it wasn't going to start until midnight on Tuesday evening.

Battlefield Question:

I was wondering what is the battlefield? Is it simply NY city, is it a stadium, is it a room, etc....

I think if we leave a vagueness to it all that it makes it confusing for both the opponents and people reading. If we simply set a location then we can work with that and be able to more clearly describe situations.

As well, I think we should have multiple possible locations and it will be picked radomnly for each match that week.

i.e. Wharehouse, Boat Docks, Park, Building Top, Street corner, bridge, Stadium, graveyard, simple room, bank, etc....

JewishHobbit
07-26-2005, 11:49 PM
Some locations will be vague and others detailed. I figured I'd leave it open this week and let people fight anywhere in NYC so they could let their imaginations run free. Don't worry, not all weeks are going to be so vague.

Phaedrus45
07-27-2005, 12:25 AM
By the way do you think we should continue with more matches per thread? It seems (at least this first round) there is a lot of ownerless characters.

The problem would be that some people have numerous characters in a given week. For example, Sparta had six characters this week. I think to add more matches might even make that situation potentially worse.

What people can do though is take the ownerless characters and try to find ways in which they might win to advance them. Especially if you notice a character who is ownerless might advance and face one of your characters in the next round. Now, that would be a strategy! "I don't want to face Thanos in the second round; so, I'm going to find a way to make Beak advance.")

Hmmm, JH, if you want to argue an ownerless character, do they have to be battling another ownerless character?

JewishHobbit
07-27-2005, 07:01 AM
For now I'll say ownerless characters are free for debating,... but if it seems that everyone is debating for this character and teaming up against an owner I may put a stop to it or limit that match for that week. But for now if you see an ownerless character, yes you can debate.

From Thread 1.

It has come t my attention that once we vote we possibly wont be able to edit or change our votes. If thats the rule then ill stick by it but if nothing is decided then i would like to vote against that. First i think that this is a tournament on who we want to win. If a person has posted but then decides that the other character would in fact win then i think its fair that they should be able to change it. Its not for the person being able to convince me to change my vote but for the voter who should be able to vote for who they would actually want to win.

Also a question about debating. Do we only have until Monday to debate or until voting has finished. Again i think that it should be until voting has finished. For example if a person has a lot of matches in a given week and decides one isnt as important as the others as he thinks they're bound to win but then sees that the votes are actually against him, he should be able to take more time to argue his point. I think people should given the chance to convince others of there character and it could lead to a more exciting and fun tournament.

Johnny Blaze
07-27-2005, 05:34 PM
Personally, I think you shouldn't be able to change your vote at all, once it's cast.
All one has to do is show a little self control and not vote immediately when voting is opened. Just relax and do a little research on the characters before you vote, and think things over. It's as simple as that.

Nightwolf
07-27-2005, 05:43 PM
Yeah, you could do that, but why should you have to?

Johnny Blaze
07-27-2005, 06:00 PM
Because you should know the facts before you vote. That way you know who would actually win and won't just be voting by name only. And, if you can't demonstrate a little self control, it's nobody's fault but your own if you rush and cast your vote immediately once voting begins.

Nightwolf
07-27-2005, 06:20 PM
The fact that you want to change your vote proves that you have put thought into it. If i'm not mistaken you have to vote for every match in the thread. Well I personally dont know even the basics about some characters let alone their histories, past battles, changes in powers. If there hasnt been a lot of debating I may be forced to vote for name only. If something comes to my attention that might change that I would at least like the option of being able to change my vote. Voting for who we think would win is what this tournament is about isnt it and if i or anybody had made a rash decision I still dont know understand why we have to be punished for it?

This is definitely a JH decision. But, the problem with changing votes is that it could lead to possible errors. Right now, it's very simple to go through the posts and tally up who got votes. If people started changing votes, though, there would be quite a bit of having to go back and forth, seeing who really voted for whom. And, as some races are very tight, we could create more animosity between participants. (For example, even though I thought Elektra faired an excellent chance of beating Cap, if people started changing their vote, the owner of Cap might get a bit upset seeing his former victory turned into defeat. It's not too hard to see your character lose when people think he/she would in a normal fight, but it wouldn't be as easy if you felt like it was stolen from you.

As for debating, once Saturday and Sunday are over, I believe the debates are open for everyone, right? This is your chance to put in your two cents and be heard. (Yet, the problem is that even if you are debating, most people have already made up their mind and voted.)

Ok Here are my thoughts

1. I don't think votes should be changed. You have the opportunity to vote anytime until the end of voting to make your decision. You can do research if you feel unsure of the debate process (if any). I take into effect the debating STRONGLY. But if I am not convinced, than it's not enough. I also feel that names are pulling a strong sway towards the voting, but it's difficult to tell with some of the matches having no debating.

2. As well, I think we should have a set debating period. ie. Saturday 12:01 am - Sunday 11:59 or even Monday at 11:59. Do we really need almost 3 full days for voting? This will leave more time to argue your points. As well I think once the voting has started there should not be any mention about points that could sway votes because there is a debating period set for that. As well we should not mention anything in owner matches this could again sway votes and might leave it open for people to gain up on someone. Person 1: We forgot about "___________", Person 2: Yes that's right because ____________". Person 3: I see what you mean because "______________". So as we said previously the debating should be between the owners. If they are both ownerless maybe leave a bit of flexibility to that.

3. If we allow debating after the voting process has started than someone can put all their points at the end, and possibly get the advantage because some people might only read the last couple of posts.

4. I agree with Phaedrus, I would hate to be happyone day because my guy is winning 8-4 then the next day 3 people change their mind and it's 7-5 for my opponent.

Wanting to change one's votes does not prove that someone put thought into it. It proves the person was impetuous and couldn't wait another day or so until all the facts are in, or could not take five minutes of their time to actually research the characters a bit for themselves. There's tons of sites out there with info on all kinds of comic characters, it's not that hard to take a few minutes and compare the combatant's experience and/or abilities. Especially since there are links to a bio for each character already.

Even still, here's a list of sites in which you can find bios for the characters in this thing:

Marvel Appendix (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/appchar.htm)
Marvel Villains (http://www.geocities.com/marvel_villains/)
Marvel Directory (http://www.marveldirectory.com/xoops/modules/news/)
Dr. Strange Site (http://www.drstrange.nl/)
Comixfan Board (http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=188)
Spider-Bob (Marvel Index) (http://spider-bob.com/comicspage/marvel/marvel_index.htm)
Thor Site (http://immortalthor.net/)
Classic MU RPG Site (http://classicmarvel.com/)
Silver Surfer Site (http://marvelite.prohosting.com/surfer/)
X-Men Site (http://uncannyxmen.net/db/characters/)

Between all those sites, anyone should be able to glean info on pretty much every character in this thing.

Not to mention that, as Phaedrus touched on, changing votes can lead to a lot of bitterness between posters as well as arguments.

Nightwolf
07-27-2005, 08:20 PM
Ok, well after this post I think I'll wait for JH decision but i will say that I thought this tournament was more about the characters than the people behind them. If you have changed your mind on which character you think should win then I think that you should be allowed to show that in your vote.

Johnny Blaze
07-27-2005, 08:30 PM
Yes, it is more about the characters than the posters. As such, people should take time and think things through to make sure they do the character's justice and make the right decision instead of voting impulsively.

JewishHobbit
07-27-2005, 11:42 PM
Okay... here's my opinion. There is to be NO changing of votes... once the vote is placed it is final. If I learn of anyone going back and editing their vote there will be punishment for the action. This doesn't make it more about the posters than the characters at all because all votes should be thought through, not quickly thrown out there. If you think there may still be some arguments to read then don't vote until you feel your mind is made up. If this means waiting until the last minute to vote then wait until the last minute.

Now since some people do not want to wait before voting,.. and because I can see the point in the 3 day voting period being too long I will rearange the schedual. I will post this in the first post of each thread so if you have any questions beyond this point refur to it there. But it will be as followed:

All matches will begin late Friday night (when Phaed is able to get them up). From this moment on debating will ensue. It will continue through until the end of the match on Wednesday.

Voting will be pushed back to Tuesday at 6:00pm my time and will end on Wednesday night between 10:00 and 11:00 pm. (I'd put a more detailed time but my availability varies). Any votes posted at this point are final,.. DO NOT CHANGE THEM! If you wish to read all arguments before voting,.. do so. Even if it means you vote last minute. Be patient, otherwise I don't want to hear complaining.

I hope this clears up this mess and if not then ask away and I'll try to help further.

There are times I like Sandler, but more often than not, not. I thought he was the worst thing in The Longest Yard (come on, him a football quarterback?) and also terribly miscast in Spanglish. His acting is really just awful...he just plays the same person lately, and when I watch him, I don't see the same excitement and freshness from his earlier movies. You need a photoshop program that can display pictures....hmm try downloading it from download.com

here is a link:
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=photoshop&tg=dl-20&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21

but even then you don't need to open it from you computer, you simply open your album from Photo bucket and click browse, look through your files to find the pictures and transfer them. Then once you have them in the album you can view them there anytime and when you want to add the pictures to the thread you simply copy the tag line for the image. ie. mypicture and paste them in your post.

Okay,.. more specifics toward locations. Take them how either Phaed or I say them and they will always be in the 616 universe unless otherwise noted.

Example: If we just said New York.... it's the basic New York. But if we say New York with Asguard floating over it,... then it's NY with Asguard floating over it. If you can use Asguard in your defense go for it. Otherwise if there is no stipulations given to each location it's the normal location.

Sorry to see you leave, Nightwing. If there is anything we can do for you, just let us know. If the debating part is too much, but you'd still like to vote and see your characters move on...I don't think it's too much of a problem. Speaking for myself, I would like to see you stay on in any way that would be possible.

Okay, two things:

First thing is that 1) I am making the drawn out brackets slowly. The first bracket is done and posted in thread one on the first post. Click the link and you'll see the first bracket layed out. I'll be taking a break from the book I'm writing over the next few days to work on the rest of them.

and 2) Reguard the event of a tie:

This week we have a tie going between Mesmero and Omega Red. My thinking is that in the event of a tie we will repost the match the following week (with the new matches). This will be a second shot for the owners to debate their characters but I will also now open it up to everyone else,.. open floor discussion on this match only. Then we will vote again, hopefully do a differant outcome.

Sound good to everyone else?

#2 sounds good. I also thought of a possible solution...especially if it's a tie again. Since Sparta is also in our little contest, we could always beg him to post the tie match in his thread, and since he get's about 18 votes per match, we would get a good result.

I know some of you guys are watching Lost, like I am. Did I miss an episode...because, they skipped over from the one I watched last Wednesday.

Phaed

Yeah I'm kinda bad about that (lost that is). I'm loving them now that I"m catching them on rerun and then suddenly it jumps ahead. I think they skipped only 1 episode because the Iraq guy had just got back from being kidnapped. I'm guessing that it's gonna start skipping a lot to cover the important things to simply refresh people's minds before season 2 starts. If it does it too much then I'm going to stop watching and wait for the dvd. If it comes out after season 2 starts I'll have my mother tape them all for me as she watches the show and I'll watch them after I watch the rest of the season. (I added spoilers because I think Nightwing is saying it's just starting over there so I don't want to spoil anything)

And reguarding Sparta's thread. I like the idea if we get a tie two weeks in a row. If he agrees with it I'm okay with it.

Yeah, it's nice the the guy from LOTR has such a nice role in the show. And, it's just so different. There is so much mystery about what the island is, what's on it, and all; but, it's also such an uplifting show. You think you kind of know the characters, and they give you a little bit each week from their pasts to realize how great or misunderstood they are.

My only gripe is that seeing previews for shows starting up next season, there are a lot that look like a lost rip-off. Not stranded on a island kind of show, but a "look, we've got this real mystery" type of show.

AS for the hunting for survivors...??? I am not sure what you mean by that, but I have seen every episode at least twice. As well, I know some valuable information for next season. I can't wait, I have been in withdrawal since the........ending.

Oh, crap! I'm glad you said something, because I looked at this weeks match-ups, and we seem to have a character who battled last week. Starfox is Eros, right? So, JH, I need a character who can replace Eros in the Tigershark vs. Eros match-up in Bracket #8, Match #5.

Giving a brief glance, here are the people who have match-ups this week:

Wolverine = 3
JH, Iceman, Harlekin = 2
Powderman, Dwarflord, Ang, Spiderman, Sparta, Blaze, Wiegeabo = 1

Plus, Wiegeabo and Harlekin will go again with Omega Red vs. Mesmero.

(There are 5 match-ups without anyone participating in them. So, feel free to debate those .... I'll try to do that to.)

Here are the standings so far:

WINS:

Wolverine = 5
JH, Blaze, Powderman = 3
Nightwolf, Sparta, Harlekin, Victor = 2
Spiderman, Phaed, Wiegeabo = 1

Losses:

Sparta = 4
Ang = 3
Wiegeabo, Wolverine, Dwarflord, JH, Harlekin, Spiderman, Blaze, Victor = 1

From the characters that moved on this week, this will now be round #2 match-ups in about 14 weeks:

Bracket #1: Jean Grey(JH) vs. Ghost Rider - Danny(Wolverine)
Bracket #2: Dust vs. ???? (to be determined)
Bracket #3: Deadpool(Wolverine) vs. Silver Surfer(Wiegeabo)
Bracket #4: X-51(Wolverine) vs. Morg(Victor)
Bracket #5: Maverick(Wolverine) vs. Living Lightning
Bracket #6: Carol Danvers(Nightwolf) vs. Baron Zemo II
Bracket #7: Starfox(Phaed) vs. Sersi(Harlekin)
Bracket #8: Thena(Blaze) vs. Karnak(JH)

It's a good thing we are having the easier round now, because by the time we get to round two, it's really gonna heat up. (Personally, I don't look forward to going up against Sersi....especially with the way Harlekin can debate a match!)

OK, as I've been going through my extras, I have found this following collection to the winner of this game. You have the choice to choose something else you might like, but thought this is a pretty good Marvel pack.

Unless otherwise noted, the winner of the Contest of Marvels will win:

Uncanny X-Men #250-258
Uncanny X-Men #260-263
Uncanny X-Men #265-266

I was worried, but I've examined all the books, and they all seem to be in NM condition...VF would be the worst...but, I didn't notice any problems with the books. For those of you who don't know, X-Men 266 is the gem in the collection, being the first full appearance of Gambit (Wizard currently has it listed as $60.00 and Mile High at $90.00 with no copies in stock.) Plus, you are getting the first appearance of the new Psylocke with issue #256.

As I've said, I have other comics, and if you already have these in your collection, you will be free to choose from some others, like a pretty much complete collection of the Death of Superman.

Again, good luck, guys,

I was hoping to have a 1st Jim Lee extra copy to add in, but that is issue 248. Missed by two. The funny thing is about less than five years ago I found these X-Men comics for around $1.00 each at half priced books. That's why I was worried they might not be in the greatest condition, but was happy to see they looked fine.

As for the storylines in these books, I can hardly remember much about them. Like most of my comics, I have only read them once. (Now, I look at these 14 boxes of DC comics I bought off this guy for $20.00 a long box and wonder when I'm ever going to have a chance to read these things. Part of me says, "Sell them, they will just sit around." But, the other part says, "It's so nice to have them in your collection. Keep them.")

Shriek is a great Spidey character they need to bring out of limbo! What was the last thing she was in.... Trial of Peter Parker during the Clone Saga wasn't it?

And Phaed you don't have to PM me either as I keep up on the threads and matches daily. And I have an idea of what you can do with those DC comics....... My address is 897 Laurel........

yeah she hasn't been used for awhile. She is/was one of the best female villains that spidey has faced. Another good one is/was Lady Doc Ock.

Here are her last couple of appearances:

Apr 1995 App: Spectacular Spider-Man #223
"Aftershocks (2 of 2), Parker Legacy (Part 3) Galleries"
... "Jackal removes the Carrion virus from her"

Jul 1995 App: Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #403 (Rev, Rev)
"The Trial of Peter Parker (2 of 4)"
... "Cameo"

WOLVERINE25TH
08-16-2005, 02:35 PM
Well, think about it...I'm sure these ownerless battles basically fall down to who would definitely whup someone else's ass when people vote...so what if in th' final braket ya get a dude who owns Jubilee goin' up against ownerless Galactus? Or ownerless Watcher vs. Ownerless Spider-Ham? Are you gonna vote fer Jubilee 'cause it has someone attached to it or are ya gonna vote fer th' fact that Jubilee would be a smear in a milisecond no matter what defense th' owner made up?

Think about it.

POWdER-man
08-16-2005, 03:12 PM
Yeah I would vote for the better character but I will say there a couple of ownerless characters that have a bit of power but all and all most of the good characters have been chosen by people.

So the likelyhood that an ownerless Flatman will beat a Thanos, Magneto, Morg, or Hyperion would be unlikely.

I agree. I put it into place for the sake of everyone being on level playing fields but now that I see it in play I really don't like it. As of now that rule is lifted. Everyone comes into battle only knowing about their opponant however much they would naturally know or be able to find out using their resources in the 24 hour prep time.

It's actually wuss...:D

But I have been there and done that. When I was in my younger years I used to be a roughneck on a oil servicing rig in Alberta. Talk about difficult labour jobs! Every guy on the crew would be missing a finger (s) and/or toe (s). The equipment was dangerous, the area was dangerous, the job was dangerous. About 6 people die in that area every year from working there. But I must admit that the pay was GOOD. Just starting out without any training or experience you could easily make over $75,000/ year working there . But work over a year and you can nearly double it. Once you get to drilling you almost have it made and then one lucky day you have your own rig and your a tool push. Those guys have it made, I am not actually sure how much they make but all they do is sit in the dog house all day sipping on coffee, reading the newspaper and once in awhile come out and tell you how much of a crappy job you are doing .

I have done other labour jobs but now I work in an office all day....different kind of intensity....

Figure JH must be kind of busy. Anyway, so everyone can get their votes in, we'll have this go until early Thursday, if that's alright with JH.

A question because I have searched long and hard for a good description of Kid Omega's powers but haven't found any good ones. I know he is a genious (I am not sure at what degree. Can he invent things? Is he a master planner? etc), telepath (doesn't give more that that so I don't know what he can and can't do), after becoming addicted to Kick his powers mutated into Omega level (which I guess means no limitations to his powers), and his brain is now pure energy (I am not sure what that means powerwise). Do you know of any other powers available to him?

BTW is Kid Omega considered in this tournament to be at his Omega level or prior to that. However he was known as Quentin Quire prior to becoming Kid Omega. As well, since it's part of his character I imagine that he can take the drug Kick in his prep time to enhance and strengthen his powers...

He is at his Omega Level mutation. And technically I suppose he doesn't even need a body to live as he was in a test tube in Phoenix Endsong and broke out and just made himself a new body. But basically he's just an insanly powerful telepath,.. made Wolverine whimper on a whim and that's something most telepaths can't do.

Hmm....very cool...so does that make him immortal, able to regenerate and can resist physical attacks/injury?

What sort of abilities has he shown for telepathy (mind control, read minds/thoughts, cast illusions, psychic blasts, thought kill, etc...)

I am sorry for all the questions but I spent a long time researching this guy, and everything was so vague on his abilities...

Poor Songbird. A fantastic win this week with instant death coming up with the next round. Chase Stein is limping away very happy he lost in the first round.

And, next week, I'm the first player who must decide who I want to win between two of my characters fighting each other, Xorn II vs. Famine.

JewishHobbit
09-01-2005, 03:12 PM
I like Xorn II,... he's an awsome character. And correct me if I'm wrong as my memory sucks,... but didn't I set a rule that everyone can debate either ownerless matches or matches where both characters are owned by the same person? Man,... of all people I should know that shouldn't I.

POWdER-man
09-01-2005, 03:40 PM
Yeah I think you decided on something like that. As well as, the person with both people can't automatically resign one of the characters. It still goes up to votes...(unfortunately)

So, where's the locale for this next week?

POWdER-man
09-01-2005, 05:06 PM
Well, I PM JH a list of about 25 starting locales. So I am not sure which ones he wants to use from that list...

JewishHobbit
09-01-2005, 10:23 PM
Okay, the match this week will take place at the X-Mansion (the classic version as more people are more familiar with it, not the current version). So basically there's the three main levels and the sub basements with the danger room, cerebro, etc. Same rules that applied to the Avengers Mansion in week 2 applies here. Anyone who would have resources in the X-Mansion can use them (such as Xavier or Jean or Emma using Cerebro or any of the X-Men using the Danger Room controls, etc) but everyone else can use the stuff that would naturally be lieing around for others to pick up and use.

And powderman, I like the list and I'll Pm you a list of the ones I need clarifying on probably tomorrow (as I have to get to bed now). But after that I'll give you the okay to pick the locations each week (or at least for around 25 weeks).

POWdER-man
09-02-2005, 12:36 AM
It was a quick thought of those ones last night....please add ones you would like and I can it to the list. As well, I have other locations that have came to me since but we will deal with those at a later point...;)

Hey guys,.. just wanted to brag a little bit! I was at Half Priced Books a minute ago and was looking through their little comic book box... I found Crossgen's Sojourn issue 1 (an estimate of about 40 or 50 bucks worth),... for a buck fifty!!!! $1.50!!! The first 6 issues were all a $1.50 each!!! The frustrating thing was that I use to have the whole series save the first issue and it was frustrating because I never even saw the comic before and so I sold them all figuring I'd never get it. Oh well,.. now I'm selling the first 6 issues on ebay again :) And the Green Arrow Quiver hardback,.. which I got for about $14.00 a while ago. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

Dang...that's really funny of you to say. I was looking in those comic boxes I got recently for just something different to read late last night, and I came across Sojourn issues 1-20, plus the prequel issue. I looked on Mile High at there regular price, and they have it listed at 75.00 before savings for the first issue alone.

If you could, give me a link to your ebay item. I'm interested to see how much it sells for when I decide to either do ebaying or starting a trading thread on the Hype.

JewishHobbit
09-04-2005, 07:38 PM
Sure thing,.. but I also don't think the hype would allow a trading thread. I'm thinking people have gotten trouble for it before. I traded with a guy once and though I never got in trouble because I just PM'd him he got banned. I'm pretty sure that was the reason. (I traded him my extra copies of Origin 1 and 2 for Runaways 1-8 and Mystique 1-8 which both were completely up to date at the time) You may want to run it by some mod's before you actually do it.

Phaedrus45

I thought this over, and I came up with a rule...not sure if it had been addressed, but I believe it is fair. If you submit votes before JH or I say Voting may now begin, they will only be considered if no debating has occurred after your submission. i.e. We had a submission that I allowed this week because nobody debated any matches after the votes were posted...but, in another thread, I dismissed the same person's votes because debating was still continuing.

Remember, ideally, you are considering various reasons in making up your votes, with one of these STRONGLY being attached debates for each match. And, while nobody might be able to present a realistic case in which Beak can beat Thanos...we must consider an argument. Some contestants spend a good amount of time thinking through strategies, and it is the least we can do to spend a little of our time to consider what they write. For this reason, I ammended any possible rule considering this. And, while it might be easy to say that all votes before the Voting may now begin shouldn't be considered, I like to see as many votes for a thread submitted as we can get, as long as it's reasonable.

That being said, if you feel this isn't fair or right, please let me know. I will ammend the voting totals in the particular thread if it is so desired .... or if JH said he's made a ruling and it should stand a particular way. I just don't want to count votes that, even though nobody might notice, wouldn't be fair to count.

Thanks,

Phaed

BTW, I am going to give out consolation prizes as the game goes on. The person(s) who have the most wins and loses will each win a comic prize when the first round finishes. As usual, you will get an assortment of comics, including a VF/NM copy of Battlestar Galactica #1 (Marvel copy!!!). (And, even if a bunch of people get #1 status, I have around 10 copies of this issue, so I'm not too worried about promising it out.) The prizes, as you can see, won't be nearly as nice as the grand prize, but there should be some goodies for the casual collector.

No problem, I could do that.

Well, if we are tied next week I will let you go first, how about that?...;).

Actually, I typically see a tie ranked by how many points (in this case votes) each person/team has, or how they compare in their previous matchups (ie if we had faced each other 3 times and you won twice, you would be positioned ahead of me). But for this I probably won't bother.

BTW I don't think we have met up yet in the tournament.
