* Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (more retarded)
* Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold (I like it but wasn't their a stupid King Solomons mines sequel named this)
* Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant (meh maybe)

i think that "city of gods" title is FAKE! i mean, think about it: Indy has been after the Ark of the Covenant AND the Holy Grail (4 the record, Temple of Doom was a PREQUEL! therfore, the "Indian sacred stones" don't nessisairly count). WHY would HE, a GOD-BELIEVING GUY would go after a place that worships MORE THAN ONE GOD?! I'll just wait until the trailer comes out in November 2 see what this title REALLY is...

That's a good point. The Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant are Christian artefacts. And they both work, so in the Indy universe, Christianity appears to be the true religion.
However, the bad guys in The Temple of Doom worship the Hindu Godess Kali, and the stones they use certainly have some kind of magical powers. So......hhmmmmmm.

They've deliberately registered completely different titles to confuse fans as to what the plot will be about.
I'm still betting it's City of Gods though. Ancient astronauts, Chariots of the Gods, that stuff.

Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds

Ahem, sorry to chime on this, but I consider the Ark of the Covenant a Jewish artifact. it is part of the "Old Testament," after all. It belongs to us.
Also, here's my theory:
So far, the Indy movies have covered 3 big religions: Judaism, Hinduism, and Christianity. I think we should take a step back and look at what big religions are left.

Islam
Taoism

If you read the book "The Films of Steven Spielberg," they talk about the origin of the Indy films. One of those origins is Spielberg's desire to do his own version of the Bond series when he was turned down as a director of a Bond film. The other is Lucas' desire to do a series of movies touching on the three largest world religions at the time.
So yes, you are correct. They did a Judaism movie, a Hindu movie and then a Christianity movie.
However, since that time, Islam has charged up and become the second largest religion in the world! It would be great to see an Islam-based Indy, but I get the feeling that it would be too controversial for America to handle right now. From the sounds of all the spoilers so far, it looks like they're going to a counterpoint instead, and use "science" as the new version of religion in the film.

Yes, I agree completely. Though Islam is filled with plenty of it's own interesting myths and customs, it still is viewed as the "Anti-American" religion.
I like the idea of science. Could be very interesting for a man who has found the Ark, the Holy Grail, and those stones.

Bond is a phenomenon that has lasted 21 movies, going on 22. He has been in virtually every media. The Bond franchise is huge, bigger then Indiana Jones. And it's just going to keep going. No one is going to want an Indy 5 with Shia leannoying taking the lead.
Deal with it, Bond is a close to being a superhero as you can get without powers.

Seriously, it's a fantastic flick. Easily better than Last Crusade, which I always felt turned Indy into too much of a "joke" by having him always cowtowing to his dad and being called "Junior" all the time. Too much humor, not as much genuine threat as in the first two.

CGI is added after filming, so he still has time. He'll probably break into the editing room, use the Force to distract the guards, and steal the footage for his own ILM boys to add thousands of zulu warriors and zombie pteradactyls.

He is in charge, yes, but he also hasn't made a simple, fun adventure film in like a decade. And even when he tries to do a fun action sequence these days, like the alley fight or factory showdown in Minority Report, he fills it with loads of shakycam and washed-out grey tones, just like every movie he's made since Saving Private Ryan...
...so I'm a little concerned that the Spielberg of the Indy era might be dead forever.

And, here's the big thing, the cinematographer is Berg's favourite Janusz 'Murky' Kamiński, who worked on Schindler's List, The Lost World, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, AI, Minority Report Catch Me if You Can, The Terminal, and War of the Worlds.
The previous three movies were done by the veteran Douglas Slocombe

I hated Calpyso. She was of no use. I found it hard to understand what she was saying most of the time. Her growing into a tall giant was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooooooooooooo ... cheesy and over the top and might I add, out of place? hmm hmm. I liked the Humor - well some of it but only the parts concerning the main characters when bridging the other two films to this one. lol "Why should I sail with any of you? Four of you tried to kill me and one of you succeeded." Will turns to face Liz lol. ha... I didn't like how James Norrington was shoved to the sidelines. I was hoping he'd be more of who he became in DMC hense why I liked him so much in the second one. He shouldn't have died. As for the main battle at the end, I wished all the pirate ships fired at the EITC Fleet. that would have been sweet to see but the malestrom was alright.

K I do admit, DMC is better than AWE, but its just I love the characterization of Elizabeth... hehe... :hyper:
Yeah, I wished we had more Norrington. His turn back to good seemed a tad forced.
A lot of the humor was good, but some of it wasn't. Example: I think Jones on the island in a bucket of water was stupid. I mean, his land curse is THAT easy to best?

I got the impression that abandoning his job in the realm of the dead was what turned him into a freaky fish-man. So yeah, Will could come back to the real world, and maybe Elizabeth could just live on his boat with him for a while, or he could stand in a bucket while she goes down on him or something, but he'd probably be covered with tentacles and crab arms by the end of the week.

That is true about the mutation, but no less, the possibility of going on land in a bucket of water is stupid. I mean, you are still on land. I don't care what you are standing on.

That's not in the actual film though. In the film itself, he can only come back every 10 years. The idea that the curse would be broken by her faithfulness was only in the script, and was deleted somewhere along the line. :(

I liked Karen Allen/Marion Ravenwood the most. Followed by Kate Capshaw/Willie Scott. And third, dead-ass-last place would easily be Alison Doody/Elisa Schneider/Nazi Whore, who doesn't have much to recommend her. I basically liked the first two.

And the back-stabbing was effective. Not only was it a surprise, the audience and Indy had grown to care for her somewhat, so it hurt more to find she was a bad guy. Plus, in the babe stakes, it's really no contest.

Douglas Slocombe is around 90 years old, and I hear he is going blind -- I think Spielberg would've used him to maintain continuity had his health had been better. Then again, he probably kept Janusz on as to not destabilize their friendship. ;)
And not all of the Janusz-Spielberg collaborations use shakycam and desaturated footage -- "The Lost World" was pretty similar to Dean Cundey's work on "Jurassic Park" and "Amistad" looked pretty standard in terms of lighting and composition. Even "Munich" (which you forgot) looked pretty good at times, although it also suffered from the shakycam and desaturated approach Spielberg loves. I hope Spielberg doesn't alienate his fans by going the realistic and desaturated approach to Indy 4 -- we want the colorful, burnish red tone like the other three movies had!
I think it's high time Spielberg switch to a new cinematographer -- if he wants another Polish cinematographer, then either Dariusz Wolski or Slawomir Idziak would be a perfect replacement. Wolski in particular would be able to get the colorful Scope look down pat for Indy 4.

It's debatable if he'll really be FIGHTING any aliens. They might not even show-up on-screen - or maybe they'll only show up for the climax. It's more that the crystal skulls some to be some kind of legacy they've left on our world and that's the focus. We don't even know if these aliens are possibly friendly.

There's also no wonder why they haven't gotten work in the past 2 decades. Once Berg married Kate he flushed the others down the drain. They now have no director to screw thus eliminating all acting gig opportunities. Then that brings back the question; why is Karen Allen back in this one lol

Depends on which episodes you watch. Treasure of the Peacock's Eye was probably as close as the series came to emulating the movies - racing across the world in pursuit of a treasure, battling Germanic bad guys. He even swung from the whip in that one.
Most times, however, the show was more like watching a history lesson with minimal action of any kind. Admittedly. Your mileage on that may vary.

^Harrison Ford also wore it in the show, and so did old Indy. What I mean is in General, he only wore it on occasion(just like using the whip)
At least he had balls, unlike nancy boy Sean Patrick Flanery.
The guy playing Young Indy at age 16 was actually in his 30s. Now that was strange.

No searching for artifacts, then what was this show about?
It was basically about Indy encountering historical figures and going through important events. It's like the show a middle school History teacher plays when she hasn't prepared any lesson plans.

I've lost interest in Spielberg as a filmmaker. His obsession with washed-out imagery and shakycam sequences has bored the piss out of me ever since he FAILED to let go of it after making Saving Private Ryan. It worked for that movie. But it sure as hell didn't work for Catch Me If You Can or Minority Report. I can only pray that he's going to go back to what he once was, a truly entertaining filmmaker with a steady hand, now that he's returning to a franchise he made when he was really doing fun things.

I think Spielberg is still one of the best directors, and though The Terminal and War of the Worlds were lousy, his other films since SPR were good to great (unless The Lost World was post SPR).
My problem is that he has changed filmmaking style, and Indy was more like the Spielberg of old, not the one doing films today. I just am not convinced he can get that old groove back, and make Indy great again.

War of the Worlds was brilliant in parts. That sequence where the Tripod first appears was amazing. It did lose its focus once Tim Robbins was introduced though, and the ending was the biggest cop out ever (I mean the son being alive, not how the aliens were defeated).

How the aliens are defeated IS one of the biggest copouts ever, though. It's just that it happens to be a classic copout dating back over a century to the original novel. Doesn't change the fact that historically speaking, it's one of the largest, most impressive copouts in literature!

How is it a copout? It makes perfect sense and has actually happened in human history, with the Spanish conquest of South America. A big part of the reason the native South Americans were defeated is because of the diseases the Spaniards brought with them.

Pretty good is somehow a failure in most people's eyes when it comes to someone who has the filmography Spielberg has. Of course, that's usually from the people who have no idea how hard it is to make a movie, let alone a good movie.

Well, Scorsese isn't nearly what he use to be. Now he's obsessed with putting DiCaprio in all his movies. DiCaprio is a fine actor, but in certain roles. He isn't the badass Scorsese things he is. He was one of the bad parts about Gangs of New York, which BTW should have been a much better film. The Aviator was good, but DiCaprio was NO Howard Hughes...not even close. That movie could have been better too, plus having someone that actually resembled Hughes would have been even better.
But I agree about Coppolla, Lucas, and DePalma. Hell, what was Copolla's last good movie? Hard to look at his current resume and imagine this was the same guy who brought up all the brilliant films like Godfather I and II, The Conversation, and Apocalypse now.
As far as Spielberg, whoever said he's obsessed with the washed out shaky-cam look is way overexaggerating. Catch Me If You Can was hardly washed out as was War of the Worlds. The man is still a genius, albeit not as great as he was. We'll never see him operate at the same level as he did when he made Jaws, ET, Close Encounters, and Raiders. That was the golden age of Spielberg.

Granted it was good, but that's one movie, and it isn't nowhere near as good as Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, or Raging Bull IMO. I just think he should have knocked Gangs of New York out of the park, but he didn't. I almost think his younger self could have. And as Fried Gold put it, Infernal Affairs was a much better movie. Raiders > Temple > Crusade
Crusade is the weakest for me because of how it takes the ultimate badass Indiana Jones and makes him the butt of an endless series of jokes. He's "Junior" now, he's named after the dog, he bickets like a 10-year-old with his father. We get scenes like the one where they're tied up in front of the fireplace in the castle, yelling "DAD!WHAT!DAD!WHAT!" for "comedic" purposes. It's sad. Even his new costume worn in half the movie - an illogical combination of leather jacket and black tie - belies the fact that he's now a figure to be mocked instead of one that inspires awe.
Despite all of that, it's still a damn good adventure. But Indy is no longer treated as the iconic figure he once was, it has the weakest of the female leads, and it's not like there's anything in the action sequences that compares to the truck chase in the first or even the mine car sequence in the second.

Crusade is one of my favorites too... true it took some of the badass element away from Indy... but it still had some elements... noticing the camera on the doors when they went in to pick up Jones Sr... the motor cycle chase. It takes so little to make me happy really. Write the words "Indiana Jones Returns!" for instance on a press kit that reveals absolutely nothing new and I'm still as giddy as Mola Ram after he's pulled a heart out of a Thuggee follower.
This morning we did in fact receive a new press kit hyping the return of Indiana Jones next summer. Nope, there's no title that's been revealed. No new photos of Shia or Cate Blanchett in character. Really, not much of anything besides some a spiffy illustration of Dr. Jones on horseback, the aforementioned "Indiana Jones Returns!" announcement on the backcover, and a few puzzles and trivia questions. What do you want anyway? The movie is still eight months away!
