This film will make way more than 600 million worldwide. It'll be the biggest of 2008 domestic so that's 300-350 just like the top film this year. It should do just less than Spidey 3.

^ They all made a bundle. Adjusting for inflation isn't fair because it's a different marketplace right now completely. So comparing #'s from the 80's isn't really fair no matter which way you look at it. They didn't have blockbusters coming out each week, no online gaming, etc...You have to compare it to the blockbusters of today. I think part of the excitement is that it's been so long.

This is a superhero forum where fans of the genre gather to talk about superhero stuff. Sure there's lots of side forums here on other stuff but it's basically all fans of the superhero genre talking about other stuff. Go to a regular movie based website and Indy 4 will be much more talked about.

F**king MTV VMAs. Oh well.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2007) – The title of the new Indiana Jones adventure, now in production under the direction of Steven Spielberg, is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it was revealed today by actor Shia LaBeouf.

LaBeouf, who stars in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone and John Hurt, announced the title during today’s MTV Video Music Awards, which were broadcast live from Las Vegas.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a Lucasfilm Ltd. and is being distributed by Paramount Pictures. It will be released in the U.S. and simultaneously in most territories worldwide on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Frank Marshall returns as producer, with Kathleen Kennedy joining George Lucas as executive producer.

From my understanding it is implied that Aliens helped primitive human socities advance. I'd say in the same way that alien origin is hinted at in the film version of "2001: A Space Odyssey". I never read Saucermen of Mars but I heard it was similar in some action pieces but different plotwise. That "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is sorta a greatest hits of previous Indy 4 scripts. I hope that is helpful.

I was reading somewhere else, that these crystal skulls could have been left behind from a lost city, like Atlantis...which was rumoured to be one of the titles of the Indy film, back when drafts were being made.

But your theory also makes sense...considering the setting for the film is in the 1950s, which was the boom of many alien-esque B horror movies. :woot:

Look at the previous titles:

RAIDERS of the Lost Ark

INDIANA JONES and the Last Crusade

The title 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is too cluttered. It would work if they did it like Raiders:

I think people will just call it Indy 4, because that new title is too goddamned long, clumsy, and bulky. They easily could have thought of something better. Hell, I could have. No doubt Lucas, known for his many creative (and physical, going by that Jabba the Hutt chin) excesses, came up with that doozy.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a descent title but I much preferred Indiana Jones and the City of Gods. It was simple and sounded like an epic quest.

City of Gods was the title of Frank Darabont's Indy 4 script, which Lucas rejected a couple years back but ironically a lot of Darabont's script has made it into the final product. One of the exceptions being in that script, Indy had a daughter with Marion, instead of a son.

Regardless, I'm still pumped for this movie and it's been a long time in the making. Seeing Indy again after all these years, will definitely be awesome.

Last year I got to see all 3 Indy movies on the big screen. They were running all 3 at the Ziegfeld Theater in NY, which is this HUGE old movie theater (one that still opens a curtain before the movie starts). I don't see the need. It is way over 10 years since Last Crusade. I think it is too late. Spielberg and Lucas have changed. Can they get back to the mindset Indy requires? All I see here is people possibly trying to capitalize on this rivival in Hollywood, and Ford trying to get his carreer back on track.

As a HUGE Indy fan, I am of the mind that we do not need another Indy movie either. I don't like Shia, I don't really like the idea of bringing back Marion, and I don't like a few of the other creative decisions. I think Last Crusade was the weakest of the trilogy, and I see a lot of that movie's weaknesses so far in this one (clinging to the past instead of moving forward, etc.). I expect the same kind of mostly watered down action and lame comedy like in Last Crusade, especially with Shia in this one.

Raiders and Temple were excellent B-movie throwbacks. Last Crusade tried to hard to break that mold while retaining the funner qualities, but IMO failed. Last Crusade isn't a bad movie, just isn't a great Indy movie. Spielberg isn't the same filmmaker as when he made Raiders, and to me this change was evident during Last Crusade. I don't think there is a chance of him suddenly becomming the same filmmaker as he was in the late 70's early 80's.

I don't expect much from this film but as usual, will look forward to it and keep the hope that it will at least be enjoyable.

To me, Indiana Jones is the greatest action hero of all time. He's is adventure. I love the Indy trilogy(the first two being two of my favorite films, the third was just ok). A fourth film isn't necessary, but neither was the prequel trilogy. People survived for years without knowing Anakin was a sausage fest, but I digress.

I think this film is going to be great, and I hope it's the best damn adventure film to be released since 1981. To be truthful, I'm looking forward to this more than any of the superhero movies being released next year. And more than Half Blood Prince too. Even at 65, I know Ford still has it.

I just hope Part 4 doesn't retread the exact same way as Last Crusade did. I want action, a great story, and just a little comedy inserted where it can be, not forced. Accomplishing that while still retaining the qualities that made Indy great in the first place will be hard to do, but I bet Spielberg can still pull if off.

Indiana Jones, the fedora wearing, bullwhip swinging, greatest adventurer ever created has finally returned. And I'm damn glad I can say it.

I agree completely. If the plot details about alien skulls and motherships is true, it doesn't really fit with the overtones of mysticism that the other films had. I mean, I guess aliens and mysticism can coexist, but it just doesn't feel right. Doesn't feel like Indiana Jones.

On the topic of the title itself, I don't really care for that either. It sounds more like a parody of an Indiana Jones title.

Willie

Oh pshh, Willie's no Marion Ravenwood but she certainly kicks Elsa's ass :o

Slapstick

Considering the subject material, I think there's slapstick in all three films...

humour that is derogatory to other cultures

I seem to recall Indy doing a 'humorous' yet 'derogatory' impersonation of a Scottish noble in "Last Crusade" ...

stupid sequences (like Willie getting scared at the campsite, Willie and Indy pacing back and forth waiting for sex, Willie's subtle hints that she was interested in the Ruler, the exotic dinner, pretty much everything with Willie)

Indiana Jones is an homage to 1930s pulp serials...the subject material was spot on.

If you're gonna label 'Temple of Doom's sequences as 'Stupid' you might as well do so with 'Raiders' and 'Crusade' because they're FULL of sequences of this nature...

Raiders and Crusade were smarter than that.

All three are as smart as the subject material COULD be...but they're more "Entertaining" than "Thought Provoking" ... and all three films are "Entertaining"

The title reminds me of the DVD trailer, when it claimed the first movie's title was "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark." Drop Indy's name and it flows much better (sounds more pulp, too).

The Amazing Lee
09-11-2007, 05:26 AM
Yeah but we all know that if they dropped the "Indiana Jones" from the title...the film would not get as much attention...nor would it help to advertise and sell the film.

I wonder who John Hurt is playing

John is playing Abner Ravenwood, Marion's father...

He was presumed dead in "Raiders" so it'll be interesting to see how it is he can still be alive...

Did he fake his death?
Did Marion cover for him?
Did he regain his life through supernatural circumstances?

We'll find out :woot:
