The grail is worthless beyond the seal so why collapse the place if someone tries to remove it?http://secretunicornsforum.com/forum/images/smiles/kidsthesedays.jpg

Thats lame. Wasn`t it that the grail itself could not pass beyond the seal? I don`t think they extrapolated that the effects were limited as well.

Surely the whole reason plotwise for the place collapsing and the grail falling into the pit was that it can make you immortal wherever you go but now that the grail is lost forever only indy can benefit from it.

Otherwise that end scene seems a lil over the top in its efforts to destroy any hopes of refinding the grail when the grail is apparantly mostly useless to most people.

Think of it this way: the only reason they needed to find the grail was to get to it before the Nazis did. Hitler wanted the grail because he believed it would give the power of eternal life and make him and his armies immortal.

Of course they find it, and learn that it will give eternal life, but they need to stay in the cave, as the knight explains: "But, beware: the Grail cannot pass beyond the Great Seal, for that is the boundry, and the price, of immortality."

In other words, the grail can't leave, and neither can you if you want to live forever. There's kind of a gray area regarding healing wounds, but since a person doesn't immediately die if they drink from the grail and leave the cave, I guess a person's gunshot wound wouldn't immediately re-open, either.

The cave began to collapse once Elsa walked past the seal, just as the knight said would happen. And even if she hadn't, I don't think Nazis would have given up and gone home and not try to take the thing by force if they had to...after all, look what happened when they opened the ark. :cwink:

This is my most anticipated movie of the year, Indy can never come too late!

Lucas and Spielburg are idiots. They had the nigh perfect franchise and ruined it.

How you ask?

At the end of last crusade both indy and indy`s father drink from the holy grail. It heals the dad`s wounds and apparantly grants eternal life. The only apparant proviso is that you can`t remove the grail form the place they got it from.

The effects of the grail must extend beyond the interior of that building because otherwise indy`s dad would have died from the wounds immediatly he got out of range.

So where doe this leave us?

Indiana Jones should be Immortal!!! (Barring of course death through injury and murder, the immortality is obviously an extension of life. He would have an unending life expectantcy he would NOT be invulnerable. He could still die from getting shot its just if he doesn`t meet with nay fatal encounters he would live forever.)

And by casting Harrison Ford again they blow the immortality bit out of the water because he has aged. Now the only way we will see future indy films is with indy`s stupid kid running around temples.

It is laughable considering spielburg and lucas had set up the perfect bit in last crusade.

If indy had been left as an immortal they could have had a never ending james bond style franchise where everytime the actor decides to leave you recast. Because indy would be immortal and forever aged about 30-40-ish.

But instead we get geriatric ford and indiana jones junior junior. what a waste.

well at least thats what i think.

Spidey 3 was fine. They had to wrap up all those storylines before the actors contracts were up and fans were demanding Venom while Raimi wanted Sandman. It wasn't perfect but it was fun enough. I'm just happy to see Spidey swinging on the big screen.

so umm..

is the video game going to be for both PS3 and Xbox360?

Mr. Socko
11-26-2007, 11:54 PM
Yeah, it'll be for just about all systems. This was released last year when the game was scheduled for 07 but pushed to '08 to coincide with the new film. And there's a teaser trailer for it out on youtube.

http://www.theindyexperience.com/video_games/img/next_gen_indy_game_cover.jpg

I found it interesting that Indy in the video game is in his 30s or 40s like Ford was during the original trilogy as opposed to making Indy of the video game in his 50s like the newest movie. Guess it wouldn't be as fun to play as an older Indy, eh.

The pics look reminiscent of previous Indy movies, at least the bottom 2 do. The second one reminds me of Temple and the third one of Last Crusade, when young Indy is looking down in that hole at the beginning.

Yeah, the old man is George Hall who played Indy in the television show. The show would sometimes start with Old Indy telling a story to proceed the show.

Indy is one of few men who can still pull off the old man beard look and still come off as awesome.

Golgo13, I don't know about the fedora. I always thought it was the same one. If you really wanna know, go hit up the Club Obi-Wan forums and ask there. That's the best place to find any info on any piece of gear or prop.

It's never been said by Ford, Lucas, or Spielberg if he wears the same fedora or buys new ones. The guys at Club Obi-Wan will tell you that the fedora in Raiders is not the same as in Temple of Doom. The width of the brim is different, actually larger in Temple. So no, in reality it is not the same fedora. But I wouldn't imagine they would use the exact same hat for filming each movie as well as the television show either. But George Lucas has set up a running gag that Indy will do pretty much anything to keep the hat. Like how he almost has his arm crushed in Temple just to grab his fedora.

Guys, i didn't really mean the fedora as a prop in real life being the same one, i meant within the Indy universe itself. When the guy placed the hat on his head at the beginning of TLC, it appears that Indy was born, so to speak, and that 'particula'r hat had sentimental value.....

That argument is completly illogical.

What evidence points to the fact that healed wounds would have to be re-opened after crossing the seal simply because the imortality does not last past the seal?

Henry Jones Snr. had yet to die of the wound. The pouring of the water heals the wound and restores his health. In the realm of the movie, the wound now no longer exists. He's cured, so to speek. Why then, would the wound re-open? Again, it is 100% gone. Immortality does not last past the seal, but the wound is irrelevant to the seal.

It would be almost like this: Say in your family you can drink Pepsi in the kitchen, but once you go into the family room, you are not allowed to have it anymore. You drink some Pepsi and go into the family room. But, when you enter the family room, your body still contains the liquid you have already consumed. Does this mean that you are allowed to have the Pepsi in the family room? No, that doesn't make sense. It just means that you have already drank some Pepsi and that isn't going to change!

You are not allowed to take the grail across the seal, and the powers of immortality follow suite. But, before they crossed it, they heal the wound. When they leave, and the wound is still 100% healed, does this mean that the grails powers extend past the seal? No, that doesn't make sense. It just means that the wound has already been healed and that isn't going to change regardless.

Last but not least, that would be a terrible idea to have Indy young in all the films due to immortality. James Bond isn't immortal. James Bond lives in an impossible timeline where he is always young. No, the audience doesn't care. He is a fictional character. But, if you gave Indy a reason for always being young in every movie (the grail), regardless of the decade, suddenly it is rediculous because of the fictional explination.

Having Harrison Ford in the film is the only answer. And making it take place in the 50's only makes sense!

This is plausible. Obviously, the Knight has the means to drink from the cup whenever he chooses. Indy only had a glass full. He used most of it on his fathers wound. In total, Indy and his dad only drank from the cup one time a piece.

Altough it's ultimatley irrelevant. The Knight specifically says that it is the cost of immortality not to be able to pass the seal. The other thing is NT2 is about six months to the day before Indy's release. It's perfect.

I figure that becoming immortal has a price, and that is that it becomes up to whomever drinks from the grail to therefore guard the grail for the rest of their existence, which is forever or until the next Indy comes along to try and take it or what not.

“To celebrate Close Encounters of the Third Kind's 30th anniversary, Spielberg has gone into the storage warehouse and dusted off those rubber Extraterrestrial dummies for a cameo appearance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. You are probably wishing that I made that up. But, no, I am not.
The one thing everybody knows about the new Indiana Jones adventure is that it deals with aliens. Of some kind. There is a really cool article over at MTV that gives you all the information you'd ever want to know about the emergence of the Crystal Skull in our culture. How they came to be, what they are, and what many believe they are used for. These artificial artifacts make for the perfect Indiana Jones treasure. Read the article and it will all make sense to you. It's cool.

One of the things that Spielberg has gone on record as saying is that most of the special effects in the film are practical. Now that appears to be true. The aliens in the film are puppets. There are three of them, seated on thrones in The Kingdom (an Aztec structure that turns out to be a spaceship). And, guess what? They bare a striking resemblance to the little naked bald headed midgets that were seen running around at the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. They are indeed supposed to be the ascendants of the Extraterrestrials seen in that film. They are related. Though the film doesn't come right out and say that. A lot of kids haven't even seen Close Encounters. They aren't going to get the joke.

This makes sense. Editor Michael Kahn and Steve Spielberg first worked together on Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Kahn has been with Spielberg ever since, and is also editing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Plus, this isn't the first time that there have been crossovers in the Spielberg-Lucas Universe. Star Wars figures are prominently featured in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. E.T. and his army of alien friends then showed up in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. "THX-1138" shows up on the wing of a plane in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. In Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom, the cafe at the beginning of the film bares Obi-Wan Kenobi's name. This type of self-referential "humor" is expected at this point.

The puppets have been updated slightly, and I have no idea if they will be modified digitally. But next summer, I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be saying, "Oh, ****...It's the aliens from Close Encounters!" When they see the finished project.”

My informant has expressly confirmed that INDY IV deals with crystal skulls of extraterrestrial origin, and that the pyramid of the finale is indeed a space ship (they've been correct on countless other details, so I don't see why they'd be wrong on this).

However, I was given the impression that we never actually met live aliens. I suppose that this report, if true, means that these aliens will be deceased aliens inside the pyramid.

If that's true it's going be a bit silly

Depends. I just googled "crystal skull" and found some interesting stuff that sounds in line with an Indy movie:

http://www.crystalinks.com/crystalskulls.html

People who believe in the psychic power of crystal skulls say that the skulls are a center of radiant psychic energy and have the power to increase happiness and improve people's lives just by being held, handled and spoken with; others have suggested that crystal skulls can be used like crystal balls, to aid divination.

The healing and supernatural powers of crystal skulls have never been scientifically established. The scientific community at large has found no evidence of any unusual phenomena associated with the skulls nor any reason for further investigation.

There are legends that speak of indigenous peoples who have ancient crystal skulls, which contain hidden information, that they keep secretly hidden from the rest of the world.

The article also mentions that crystal skulls are also often associated with extraterrestrials, and also lists some famous (?!) crystal skulls, including one that appears to articulate when held a certain position in the light. :wow:

Suit yourself. I stand by my source very confidently (especially since he's gotten so much right that has slowly been confirmed through other channels). It's not like I'm the only source of information to report as much.

Aliens and Indiana Jones have been tied together with INDY IV much earlier than this final draft. There was the Jeb Stuart draft, which featured aliens, and the Frank Darabont draft, which also featured aliens. Now, from numerous distinct reports, we've been told that KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, which shares a lot of similarity with elements from both of these drafts, will also feature aliens. Seems like there's some continuity there.

Holding out hope that there won't be aliens seems pointless. We have plenty of indication for aliens. We don't have seemingly valid reports to the contrary.

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=4665) is now planned for a debut in February. While we don't know for sure with which movie (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/startreknews.php?id=39869#) it will show, Paramount's biggest film that month is The Spiderwick Chronicles (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=13847), so keep your eye on that one. Of course, it's possible Paramount will decide to debut footage earlier during the Super Bowl, but we're not sure.

Was Aliens in ET not enough? Was Aliens in Star Wars not enough? War of the Worlds..............Close Encounters............and the other billion alien movies they've done.

I go an idea, why doesn't Spielberg just allow Uncle Bullfrog to insert some aliens in Jurassic Park as well and re-release it in theaters! American Graffiti too! Berg and Lucas can put Aliens in all of their newest films and all of the old ones too thanks to the powers of ILM. Let's just re-edit Temple of Doom and remove Mola Ram and digitally replace him with Jar Jar Binks. That way it can be a nice little easter egg!

Yay, and why just stop there? What's wrong with Indy fighting Aliens, they can even kidnap him then have MUTT JONES(stupidest name ever created FYI) fly across the moon in his motorcycle with a little brown alien made of chicken wire.

Another Spielberg movie with Aliens! Who'd a thunk it, I mean I sure as hell see the originality:dry::dry::dry:

Not entirely true. Recent science is demonstrating more and more how rare the necessarily conditions for life are, and how increasingly unlikely it seems that there's substantially developed life elsewhere in the universe. It's called "Rare Earth Theory."

But that is just based on what we know. Who says we know all the necessary conditions for life, or that they cannot be repeated in an infinitely large universe?

From what I've heard, the presence of the aliens is going to be the exact same as the presence of R2-D2 and C-3PO in Raiders. If you know when and where to look, you might see them. If you don't, you'll never know they were there.

All science has to be done by what we know. Perhaps we don't know all the necessary conditions for life, and there is some scenario we don't know by which it could exist. But that's entirely speculation.

Furthermore, the universe is infinitely large, but it's not infinitely full. It's infinitely large because it's continually filling up with dead space.

Frank Marshall on Indy 4
Source: Edward Douglas
December 5, 2007

Producer Frank Marshall has earned his reputation from working in the movie business (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=40003#) for over 35 years, mostly working with Steven Spielberg on movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Amblin films, but also having huge hits on his own with blockbusters like The Sixth Sense and more recently, the Jason Bourne trilogy.

While we were talking to Mr. Marshall about The Bourne Ultimatum (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=13889), we wondered whether there was any serious possibility about a fourth movie, after Matt Damon has told reporters in recent months that he's reticent about returning. "There were only three books written. I know they've written a fourth but it wasn't written by Ludlum," Marshall said. "Look, we would love to continue the franchise. We just need a great story, and we're not going to do it unless we have a great story, but we are working on coming up with one, and Matt said to me, ‘Look, you hand me a great script, I'm in.' Unfortunately, we're not able to do any writing at the moment, but we're all thinking about it."

He also has a bunch of new movies coming out next year including The Spiderwick Chronicles (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=13847), Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=22245) and David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=20703), but no movie is more anticipated than his latest with Spielberg, that being Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=4665).

He told us why Steven and Harrison Ford (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=40003#) felt that now was the time to return to Indy. "It's kind of been out there in the air, but we never had the right script, and we kind of put it on the backburner and then back in 2000, we all went to the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award for Harrison. George and Harrison and Steven and I and Kathy were all backstage all dressed up and we were looking at clips from the movies and we thought, ‘God, those were really fun. Maybe we oughta really focus on trying to do another one." And that's what happened. David Koepp came up with a great script finally, and we're done shooting and now in the editing process. It's pretty amazing."

"What we've done is we moved it from the '40s to the ‘50s so we're acknowledging that everybody's 10 or 15 years older and it plays into the story," he told us when asked about how things would be different from the earlier movies. "We're not trying to hide that Harrison's older, but we have Shia LaBeouf coming in as his sidekick, so we've got a young element. The best way to describe the movie is that it's an Indiana Jones movie. It's got all the style and elements of the old movies, and we're not really trying to do anything different."

"You're going to see a teaser poster later this month," he said when asked when we might be seeing some more from the movie.

I'm not the only one to report this. CHUD.com and IESB.net, both sites that have broken information that was later confirmed, posted it.

But I have a source of my own that was able to read a summary of the film given to advertisers to help come up with clever campaign strategies and ideas. He also told me some details that have later been confirmed as they came out through other sources. He's been entirely right so far on everything we can confirm, and he matches up with the other more reliable reports.

I think people forget that Indy is a copy of the great treasure and adventure films that came before it. The bottom line is, NT and Mummy aren't really copies, they're other films in the same genre.

You know what would be perfect? If they showed the Indy trailer with National Treasure, and it said, "The one that started it all", and it would make National Treasure look like the copy-cat piece of crap it really is.
Hell, National Treasure is simply a combination of things.... Indy, Mummy, and Da Vinci Code. Don't deny it. :word:

And Indiana Jones isn't?

Gunga Din was obviously an influence on Indiana Jones. In Gunga Din, they fight the Thugee! Great adventure film with the charismatic Cary Grant as one of the heroes.

I'd say Treasure of the Sierra Madre was also an influence. Great movie as well.

Why is it that whenever I mention my opinion that Indy 4 will suck, someone brings up SM3? It is getting old. Yes, I LOVED SM3, but that has no bearing on my views on this movie.Because people can't handle the fact you think differently to them, so they try and discredit you through the popular opinion. It is both lame and pathetic. I say this as someone looking forward to Indy 4 and who believes SM3 was a badly done movie.

It'll be better than Spider-Man 3, I assure you.

LOL, watch Matt come in here and ***** at ME for getting off topic again!

from The Raider Dot Net:
Cate Blanchett & Ray Winstone's characters revealed
07/12/07, 4:48pm EST

Rest assured, the SPOILER character details are still hidden from plain sight on TheRaider.net!
The roles Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone play in the new Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are no longer a secret! During an exclusive interview with MTV News producer Frank Marshall finally revealed some more info on the roles these actors are playing.
And while you would assume that these actor instantly jumped at the opportunity to star in the fourth Indiana Jones, it wasn't like that exactly.

"Well, no," "Indy" producer Frank Marshall laughed. "I think it's an opportunity that doesn't come along very often — to do these kinds of big movies — but they talk to Steven and he pitches the role. [Before they commit], they want to know, rightfully, what the part is."

"Well, Cate [Blanchett] is just spectacular, one of the finest actresses working today. She went from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to playing [ the villainess in 'Indiana Jones,' so she's up for anything," Marshall enthused, confirming speculation that the Oscar winner joined the cast as Indy's main adversary. "She makes a great villain. She had a really fun time. ]

"Ray Winstone, he came from Beowulf to this," Marshall continued, describing Winstone's character, [ Mac, as a sort of cross between villain Belloq and friend Sallah. "He plays an archaeologist competitor to Indy. Friend and competitor." ]

And Jim Broadbent? He plays [ a Yale colleague of Dr. Jones' that "sort of replaces Marcus Brody," ] Marshall said.

All three, along with Shia LaBeouf, Karen Allen, Harrison Ford, Spielberg, Lucas and Marshall himself, face a particularly "huge expectation" with "Indy 4," the producer said — a pressure to succeed that led screenwriter David Koepp to recently tell MTV News that his biggest hope for the film was "just [to not] screw up."

It's a pressure they've faced and successfully surpassed, Marshall insisted.

"I think the best thing I can say about it is it looks like an Indiana Jones movie in all the best ways. It's the look, it's the way that Steven designs all the shots, it's the style, it's the lighting, it's the way Indy is — all of those things. We haven't strayed," he giddily explained. "It sounds trite, but there's no other way to describe it. You go, 'Oh — Indy.' There's sort of a language that Steven developed for this character and for these movies. And you're going to get exactly what you got in the other three movies, which is really kind of thrilling when you see it."

Frank Marshall also denied all rumors that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would be the start of another series. Not with Harrison Ford or with Shia LaBeouf.

"I don't think so. We're all getting too old," Marshall playfully reported. "We have to hand the [adventure] torch to somebody else. I don't know who that's going to be."

Cagefighter, you might want to clean that up, cause it's kinda hard to read. For those of you who do not want to read through it, I'll make bullet points.

Cate Blanchet is the villain (we already knew this)
Mac (Ray Winstone) is a competitor, but friend, to Indy (we already knew this)
Steven's style for the film hearkens back to the original Indy movies
BIGGIE: There will be NO continuation of the series with Harrison, Shia, or anyone else

The fact that there will be no spinoff series should relieve many. The fact that Frank Marshall stresses Shia in that statement could be a subtle confirmation that Mutt is indeed Indy's son.

I literally just scroll down the page real quick to check for new pics. I've all but stopped reading posted in fear of finding out something I didn't want to know.

Wow, that cutter-tank-thing would be pretty crazy if it's in the actual film...

The cutter tank is in the film. We've had set pictures of it, and it's included in an action sequence that I've heard described as something like the tank chase in LAST CRUSADE.
