I enjoyed Die Hard AND Rocky Balboa. I thought both would be crap and they really surprised me.
Just goes to show that guys like Willis and Stallone...along with Ford bring something to the big screen that other current action guys cant.
exactly. ROCKY BALBOA was the best film Stallone had sicne Cop Land, and before that since... well since ROCKY 3 imo. And LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD was entertaining, but the unrated dvd was ten times better. And plus, nobodys seen RAMBO (4) yet... so you cant judge it until you're sitting in a theater muching down popcorn. As for BEVERLY HILLS COP 4... suck. Because 2 and 3 sucked, and Eddie Murphy is worthless nowadays (and yes I saw DREAMGIRLS) - my point is, dont count Indy out. This has the original cast, crew behind it and will be terrific methinks.

i have a feeling that this "teaser" wont be a teaser but a full blown first trailer, and think about it... the trailers for the star wars flicks were early jan/feb too if memory recalls...

Is anyone here not going to see this movie? I was thinking about this today and even if I hate the trailer, I'm still going to see it... That's really pathetic. Lucas is good at doing that, though (prequels).

Went to see No Country For Old Men last night and saw the giant-sized Indy 4 teaser poster and it gave me goosebumps. It was extremely crowded at this mega-plex yesterday and i would spot others gazing upon it...it was hung about 35ft above the concessions counters over the flat screen tv that plays previews...
This bit, from the Variety article really made me happy:
Rather than update the franchise to match current styles, Lucas and Spielberg decided to stay true to the prior films’ look, tone, and pace. During pre-production, Spielberg watched the first three Indiana Jones movies at an Amblin screening room with Janusz Kaminski, who has shot the director’s last 10 films. He replaces Douglas Slocombe, who shot the first three Indy movies (and is now retired at age 94), as the man mainly responsible for the film’s look. “I needed to show them to Janusz,” Spielberg says, “because I didn’t want Janusz to modernize and bring us into the 21st century. I still wanted the film to have a lighting style not dissimilar to the work Doug Slocombe had achieved, which meant that both Janusz and I had to swallow our pride. Janusz had to approximate another cinematographer’s look, and I had to approximate this younger director’s look that I thought I had moved away from after almost two decades.”

H-E-A-V-Y-S-P-O-I-L-E-R-S!!!!!!!
H-E-A-V-Y-S-P-O-I-L-E-R-S!!!!!!!
I was looking for more info on the new Indy film when I came across Karen Allen’s fan website http://www.acmewebpages.com/karen_a/ . I was shocked to read the following:
The new Indiana Jones movie started filming in Los Angeles in June, and the rumors are true that Karen will reprise her Marion Ravenwood role. I have heard this from Karen herself. She has been involved with the filming since the beginning, but was sworn to secrecy until today [July 26, 2007].
The film will hit theaters in May 2008. Spielberg is directing and Lucas is executive producing, along with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. John Williams is also back composing the music. Harrison Ford will of course be back as Indiana Jones and Shia LaBeouf has been signed as his greaser sidekick who also turns out to be his son Matthew. John Hurt plays Marion's father Abner Ravenwood; Ray Winstone plays Indy's sidekick "Mac"; and Jim Broadbent plays a bumbling yet useful cohort à la Denholm Elliot's Professor Marcus Brody. Cate Blanchett (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) has been signed as a love interest and/or villain, depending on which rumors you believe. And Kate Capshaw returning as Temple of Doom gal Willie Scott. On July 26, 2007, the day Spielberg announced it to San Diego's ComicCon, Karen told me "yes I am working on the new Indy film. I've been sworn to secrecy until today, but now I can let you know. I'm having a fantastic time shooting it."
We now have a confirmation of Shia’s identity, name, and Kate Capshaw reprising her roll as Willie Scott.

To my knowledge, they want to limit their use of CGi for practical effects.. Unless they want to go back to the old school matte paintings and stop motion of the older films, which is doubtful...
It's impossible to totally disband CGI in a modern commercial film

stop writting crazy stuff.
of course there will be CGI. they will use mattepaintings for backgrounds, they will use computers to add more dramatic clouds, skys.
you think they will use the old techniques for painting out wires? no, they will use modern computers.
noone said that they are filming only with greenscreen. but spielberg uses CGI to make the scenes work.
are they also using the old cameras for filming for christ sake?
reality check.

I like the idea of the people having cameos in the film too bad John and Sean won't have even a picture cameo.
I liked Willie better then Marion but there two good call backs and Shia with transformers kinda says he will be in few blockbusters in his time so its a good momentum casting for his career is hot now.

This film has Willie in it? I wonder how Marion will feel? After all she is tougher than Willie, and I would like to see maybe a little frustration from Marion towards Willie. I think it would be funny as long as there was only maybe one scene when it happens.

Willie? Really? I can't say I'm too keen on that. This movie will only work if they actually try to create something new then constantly calling back to what was in the older films. Maybe as just a cameo, but otherwise no thanks.

Yeah, and even then, it was a brief cameo where she appeared at Indiana Jones' wedding.
Don't put any stock in the rumor that Willie Scott is back. No reliable sources have put it forward, and Koepp seemed to indicate that he avoided making references to other films when writing INDY IV.

Agreed 100%. Now I will say this...Kate Kapshaw being Spielberg's wife could have shot a cameo and they could maybe have kept it a secret. With that said I don't think she'll make the wedding scene for the reasons you stated.

Yeah read that awhile back. At best the movie will look like "Last Crusade" did in 1989.

here's a quote from the article...
“The fans are all upset,” Lucas says. “They’re always going to be upset. ‘Why did he do it like this? And why didn’t he do it like this?’ They write their own movie, and then, if you don’t do their movie, they get upset about it. So you just have to stand by for the bricks and the custard pies, because they’re going to come flying your way.”
now you tell me where it says it's about the fans that "don't" shell out money?
All I'm saying is he should NOT put all the fans in the same group as the ones he's talking about. Fan's opinions vary...Most of the poeple I know think it's great that they are making a new one...and like the ideas they've been hearing. Just because most of the fans gave him **** on the Star wars prequels (which they had good right too) doesn't mean we don't have faith in the movie being awesome and trust the film makers.
Also earlier in the article Ford mentions how stubborn Lucas was because he was obssed with the crystal skull idea...and didnt' want any other "McGuffin." Which again I think was is his pride and ego getting in the way. But again...it's my opinion.
Do I think he's a greedy fat man....yes and no. I don't think he's a great writer though. He can come up with some good plots...but dialogue, and story structure, not great. Personally I feel the Indy franchise has more to do with Steven than Lucas...Steven put the heart and sole into Indy....Lucas just the meat.

I loved Last Crusade as a kid, and I still like it now. It's a funny funny movie, but it's too lighthearted at times. It's like the "Sitcom Bizarro Version of Raiders".

I think it's the weakest of the films so far because it's typical Goonies-era Spielberg. Self-indulgent, lazy, and as every film critic has already said, it's more like a series of rollercoaster action scenes than a story. Willie is bloody annoying. The villains are menacing but characterless. It's also unnecessarily violent. Lucas and Spielberg have themselves admitted the movie is a bit too dark and vicious, and that's why The Last Crusade was the lightest and most comedic of the three.

I think Raiders of the lost ark is the best film
The Last Crusade is my favorite. I love the father son relationship between Indy and Bond (who was prefect for it)
The tank scene was always a favorite of mine.
The holy grail scenes near the end, dodging the discs, walking on the invisible thing.
Then to end it with them riding towards the sunset. Damn I can't wait foer Indy to return.
Mr. Socko
01-06-2008, 04:13 PM
I love Raiders and Temple the most, followed by Crusade. Temple was entirely campy while being entirely too dark at the same time. It became an all or nothing movie. The story involves an adventurer with a Chinese kid sidekick and the usual dumb blonde entering India to fight a cult of evil human-sacrificing Hindus, and half of it surrounded by slapstick. It was ridiculous and I loved it.
My biggest complaint is that it was too contained, there wasn't much globe trotting. They went from Japan to India and that was all. That and Willie yelled all too much. But Mola Ram is my favorite villain of the entire trilogy, the dinner scene was hilarious, and the opening scene, while not as good as the bolder rolling after Indy in Raiders, was a fantastic homage to James Bond.

Again I ask: Why is this movie necessary?
My answer to this question will undoubtedly differ from a lot of others on this board, but I think INDY IV could potentially make up for the lackluster finale that was LAST CRUSADE. I'd like to see the franchise go off on a better note.

Why is this film necessary? Because we need old school nostalgic ass kicking! We need Harrison Ford back in a great movie and the return of light hearted Spielberg. We need the legends to come back to show national treasure and the mummy how it's done. Plus really, is any film necessary? No, so who cares. If Rocky, Rambo, John McClane, and Donner's superman can come back, why can't Indy?

Indiana Jones is a sponser of ESPN's online coverage of the NFL playoffs, and we were told to expect the trailer in February. While there's been no news that Lucasfilm or Paramount have shelled out for ad time during the game, there still is speculation that we could see something with the game.

I always thought Lucas should do a Han Solo film, years after the original films. It could be a smaller scale solo movie. I think it'd work. Possibly have him get tangled up with Boba while on a solo mission. Maybe he and Boba would have to work together to some extent, to show the side of Boba that the films never conveyed. :boba:

Spin-Off Trilogy. I think the idea is that it'd be a series set around Shia's character and a 50's type of scifi thing. Hey but that's speculation.

I believe boba gives his life in the EU for Han. That's after he uses his jetpack to blow up the sarlaac after his badass mando armor saved him from the acids of the beast. Really cool plot elements and character development going on there.

How can it even be asked why there's a fourth Indiana Jones movie? Why make 22 James Bond films? Why make FOUR "SAW" MOVIES?
Indy has been 3/3 so far, I'm all about a fourth and final film.

I also think its very possible that connery will make a surprise cameo- I mean it was pretty recently that he said hed jump at it if he liked the script, which leads me to believe either one of two things. a) he didn't like Indy 4 b) he'll be there.
Retirement too damn fun? come on. I doubt Connery wants LXG to be his last film.

As much as I'd love to see Connery pop up in INDY4... I agree with this guy, I don't think it's happening. If I'm in the theater and then suddenly he pops up and is all like "Junior?" I'll crap my pants, but until then COnnery aint in the flick.
