Can someone please explain to me how this is a great trailer?
Because it's Indiana Jones. He could be taking a huge dump in it instead, but as long as the whip cracks and the Raiders march plays, people will be excited.

I wouldn't go as far as saying they suck but I don't think they are "teh s**t" like everyone else. The trailers aren't very great IMO and don't make me want to make me see it immediately like the TDK trailer. I'll still see it opening weekend though cuse I have faith in Speilberg that it won't completely suck.

sweet new 3rd tv spot it was cool. As for the whole john hurt character thing. Yea it was long rumored that he could have been abner which would have been cool and all but lately spoilers/rumors keep saying he is dude named oxley and was an old friend of indy's and abner's. But who knows we got 3 weeks and then we know for sure.

Is Hurts character a flash back or does he turn up later in the movie is what i wanna know.
He is found around the halfway point and very prominent throughout the last half of the movie...as for the glitch..he may be Abner..maybe it's a twist you find out at the end of KOTCS

Can someone please explain to me how this is a great trailer?
Because it's got all of the elements of the previous Indiana Jones movies that the fans loved: the hat, the John Williams theme, lots of action and fighting, evil villians, the return of a character from the first film, and the humor as well.
If the first 3 movies hadn't already existed, the trailers wouldn't be getting such an excited response. But people have been waiting a long time for it, and just seeing all of that imagery is just unbelievably awesome.

Yeah, it has all of the elements that made the franchise famous, but they don't feel right, especially not in this newest trailer. It just felt awkward and lame.

Only if you try to over-analyze it. If you go indianajones.com and watch the trailers for the original movies, they're really no different than the newest trailer.

What some people tend to not realize is that the Indy series has always had great production value. For it's time, all of the original films had large budgets(Raiders even won the academy away for best visual effects). Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is now no different. If CGI had existed back in the '80s you can bet Spielberg and Lucas would have utilized it. The Indiana Jones series are B-movies with A-movie production value. The latest will follow that same structure, special effects have simply upgraded since the 80s.
Anyway, after seeing the trailer again, I like it a bit more but I still think the first trailer as well as the latest tv spot were both better.

the greatest thing about these trailers is that you donīt really know a lot about the story after watching them. For example, the Spider-man 2 trailer was amazing, it was like a 2/3 min. film, but after seeing it you knew exactly what to expect.
Here we donīt learn anything more than what we know already. Itīs just a couple of new scenes, a couple of funny lines and a little introduction of the crystal skull, nothing more.
And i think itīs great. Itīs been a long time since the last time i went to such a big film knowing so little... Being un-spoiled is cool!
And they just need to let people know that a new Indy film is coming, itīs not a hard film to sell. It sells itself. Everybody knows Indy.

They have their moments. But for the most part i agree with you fellas. The trailers just seem a bit off. Not to be jumping on the bandwagon for TDK but the trailers for it practically have me drooling for more whereas the Indiana Jones trailers have a very meh quality. But i'll still be seeing both of them opening day.

Picked up the The Ultimate Guide and The Lost Journal today, both exploring Indiana Jones's adventures. The Journal was great, lots of references to the TV show, "torn out" pages for those covering the Max McCoy books, great diagrams of the booby traps and temples in the film quartet, as well as revealing Short Round became an archaeologist.
The Ultimate Guide also had neat illustrations and backstories for Mutt (he's just like Indiana in that he's a boarding school student hiding behind a cool costume), Spalko (she's a psychic) and Ox (presumably the Abner Ravenwood rumours came from him being a student of him, an old friend of Indiana's). The Guide also details Mutt believes his father was an RAF pilot named Colin.

Question.
What's so bad about the trailer itself? It's not edited particularly impressively, but this is a throwback movie, and always has been a throwback franchise. Everything and anything you'd expect to be there is there. The Indiana Jones concept is what it is, and if it doesn't stand up against the kind of movies being made today in a trailer...that's because it is what it is.

I always thought the point of a movie trailer was to peak an audience interest to want too see more of the film after seeing the trailer.
I love Indiana Jones. I think it's a great franchise and a wonderful character. I'm thrilled to have him coming back to the big screen along with Marion Ravenwood.
However the trailers to me are just pretty lackluster, I guess it's all about personal preference and the fact that i hate Shea Labouf with a passion and i don't think he needs to be anywhere near this franchise. But it's a little late for that now.
Regardless as i said.. I'm going to be there to see it opening day despite that the trailers have done nothing for me except show me that the movie is coming.

I liked the trailer more after seeing it again but I still don't think it's great. The first one was far more memorable. Seeing Indy in shadow place on the fedora while the raider's march plays was one of the best trailer moments ever. "This ain't gonna be easy "Not as easy as it use to be" is an awesome line while "Put your hands down your embarrassing me" was far more stilted. No cool lines in the new trailer and I didn't like the pacing as much.
So it's not that the new trailer was necessarily bad, it was just inferior to the first trailer(which I loved). Anyway, here's an edited Youtube trailer made in the same style as the old trilogy. I hope we get one like this, voice overs for trailers don't seem to be used often anymore.

One could say that Indy has given us a taste and held back thus making a more effective trailer. I think the TDK trailer shows too much, the first trailer after the teaser was perfect. They shouldnt have taken it further

Well, at least Indy's not giving away endings or fates of certain characters. And, I think Indy went the right way in not having a real, full trailer until only three weeks prior. TDK is giving nerds too much time to chew on information before the release.

Yeah, Leo wasn't that much of a factor back then, 1. it was an historic epic. 2. it had no competition unlike these days where you have a big movie every week. 3. Titanic was in the cinema about 6 months, these days the turn over to DVD is much faster.

May 5, 2008
Paramount Pictures has started airing these third and fourth TV spots for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=4665), opening in theaters on May 22. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the action-adventure stars Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone, Karen Allen, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent. In the sequel, famed archaeologist/adventurer Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind a mysterious artifact known as the Crystal Skull.
You can watch the third spot here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CM4s5HKP03Q) and fourth spot here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUKEc484vXU)!

So my two cents on the newest trailer... wtf is up with Blanchett's accent??? Man that sounds horrible... trailer was meh and had me worried... its was missing the excitement... but I was just wondering... they should have just signed a Russian actress to play the villain... or maybe Famke Jansen since she is good with that stuff.

Music samples are avaliable. What can I say? Williams is a genius.
The opening phrase to "The Spell of the Skull" was a great little reference for those of us who loved the Raiders score.
Although I have quiet doubts about the rest of the film (better than having unrealistic expectations, at least in my view), the score is one part in which I have no worries whatsoever.

Not surprised with the review. I have a feeling I will feel the same way. The trailers and clips for the movie are dull. LaDouche is a terrible actor. I know they will do the whole "I'm too old for this s***" thing.
I was excited about this movie when announced, when the first pic popped up of Indy, etc. Seeing these trailers, the premise, and the terrible cartoony CG makes me not wanna bother seeing this in the theatre. Shame.

Wow. Original and REALLY cool board "talk".
Anyway. LaDouche........is playing a greaser in this flick. There is no way a person like that could pass as a greaser. He is a scrawny little punk, and would have been killed shortly after his act.
The movie looks like garbage, and it is a shame.
I am right, and this will have a nice opening weekend followed by a massive attendance drop then next weekend.

I can't believe ppl still worry/put faith in the early reviews from AICN, someone from this site actually sent one in for X3 even though he hadn't seen it, just to prove they post anything, and guess what ? they posted it.
Now i expect Indy will be lucky to reach lower 60's on the tomato meter, it's an easy target for critics and lets face it, negative reviews are much more common for these guys than positive ones. They have already had a love fest for Iron Man (Great flick) and they aren't allowed to dislike TDK, so Indy is the next natural film in line to get the big buster critical walloping of the summer.
On a side note, last year showed quite a disgusting tendency for films to get really low scores from US critics with a political stance opposite to the movies. Which just adds another reason as to why the vast majority of regular movie goers don't really take any notice of their reviews.

Well Hunter, tell us what you think of the look of the movie just from the trailers. Would you not agree that it looks slow, over the top silly, etc.? I sure do.
Indy moving like molasses during the fight, when you know he would be stomped dead.
Pimply-faced wuss greaser WEARING HIS LEATHER JACKET through the jungles of wherever.
The terrible plastic and fake CG so far.
I mean....if you watch the previous Indiana Jones, there was at least a believability of the movie when stuff hit the fan. The reviewer at AICN brings this up, and that is exactly what I was fearing. A LOT of people are fearing it. It was a viewer review anyhow..same as the viewer reviews at RT. I see just complete silliness from this trailer, and it makes me roll my eyes in anger. Nothing I have seen has impressed me.
Even at IM, when the trailer popped up, I overheard some people saying neutral to negative things. My father even said it looked silly, and he loves Indy.

ALL Indy movies are B-Movies on a grandiose scale.
That is wrong.
Watch all three of the original movies, and tell me how they are B movies with all of the effects and actors and scenes?
The term B movie originally referred to a motion picture made on a low or modest budget and intended for distribution as the less-publicized, bottom half of a double feature.
Not even close.
George Lucas once said: "When you do a movie like this, a sequel that’s very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it’s going to be the Second Coming. And it’s not. It’s just a movie. Just like the other movies. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way your memory holds up."
B Movies are not made to be the main event, so to call it a B Movie is wrong. A B Movie is something like Cabin Fever, Monster Squad, Saw, etc. To compare the Indiana Jones series to it is silly. Star Wars like that too?

That is wrong.
Watch all three of the original movies, and tell me how they are B movies with all of the effects and actors and scenes?
Well, there are a few shots in Temple of Doom when it looks like a mine car full of action figures are racing through a cave. Not to mention some obvious matte shots in all 3 films, and until it was finally fixed on DVD the snake hissing at Indy in the Well of Souls could be seen in a reflection from the glass separating them.
I mean seriously...who can look at the original movies and say that the effects still look perfect? They don't.
The Indiana Jones movies are an homage to the B-movie serials of the 1940s and 50s that Lucas and Spielberg grew up with. The ones that ended with some ridiculous action cliffhanger that you had to come back to see the rest of the following week. If it wasn't a big cliffhanger, why come back? It was meant to be over the top on that scale and it succeeded.
Those movies were full of over-the-top action sequences and heroics. That's what people loved about them.
Unfortunately the AICN generation needs some dark and brooding remake, full of cynicism and attitude. They don't know how to enjoy the Indiana Jones movies...they just know how to b***h about them. The people who post on that site are more into who can post first and be the most vulgar about it.
I know exactly what the Indy movies were because I grew up with them in the 80s, and this one looks exactly like the movie I waited for for 19 years. The balance of the universe doesn't depend on it, I just hope it's as much fun as it looks.

The serials of the 40s and 50s are not considered B Movies. They are serials.
I believe I referred to them as B movie serials. Which is the same bloody thing. The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Superman, etc. They ruled movie theaters on Saturday afternoons at the same time Gone With the Wind and Casablanca were winning Oscars.
Star Wars was inspired by Flash Gordon...another serial. Lucas moved on to Star Wars when he couldn't get the rights to make a big-screen version of Flash Gordon.
It's not a knock on Indy to say they were inspired by these old serials, and that their intention was to make their own homage to those movies they loved as kids. I remember watching a special on Raiders back when it was first released and they actually showed clips from those old serials to compare the two.
It's a shame for anyone to take the Indiana Jones movies more seriously than they're meant to be.

Those reviews dont even reveal ****. Its just a logical review from stuff we already knew. Therefor its safe to assume BOTH reviews from AICN are fake as ****.
Why the hell is AICN the only website on the Internet with reviews about Indy 4? I'm pretty sure they had to sign some sort of agreement that states they can not distribute their review untill the 20th of May...
Anyway, AICN has been known for the fake reviews. I aint suprised

There are money shots that are definitely not in the trailers. Everything that was gleaned about the film in the last year was 100% correct - EVERYTHING.
The problem is that there's other stuff in the movie that's not in the trailer. Like Mutt trying to chase a truck in the jungle and getting an idea from monkeys to swing after it on vines... which he then does with a whole bunch of cute monkeys following him. (If there's a Tarzan cry, the film's unsalvageable).
Or the long-discussed quicksand scene which features Mutt saving Indy by throwing him not a vine but... a snake!

yeah, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested too. But I stopped really caring about summer movies having great reviews because no matter how good the reviews are, most of them get ignored for real award recognition. The days of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Star Wars, and The fugitive getting best picture nods are done.

I wouldn't be so sure... Last Oscars ceremony got the weakest ratings, so maybe next year's nominations might include several movies more appealing to the masses... And Heath Ledger will get a nom for sure (and probably win)

Hulk? Ooh, ooh, ooh! Or even better the gayest movie ever: Sex & the City!!!
I guess it's fortunate for me that I'm a fan of Shia.
Ditto.
I'm thinking these reviews will be like the early IM reviews which said it was crap. But boy were they wrong.

Not much different, but love indy's little reveal, and the look on his face, Bad ass.
To get back on the positive and away from this review mayhem, what scene, based on footage from the trailers and tv spots, are people looking most forward to seeing. For me it's that jungle chase. Indy movies all have great action, but they also have that one huge action scene to make people remember. I think this one will be it.

A critics have never been big fan of Indiana Jones movies its always been an average movie goers flick. No one back in the day gave Star Wars any hope and look what it did. Episode 1 and Indy 4 are completely two differant films. B Lucas did not write Indy 4 and Speilberg is directing it.
If people doom a movie off of another film not even the same tye of film is kinda idiots for you can't let other people or events judge a film you never seen. Yes be your own judge but don't get swallowed up by critic reviews and negative free press before a movie starts. I guess i am saying its silly too doom a film if never seen it.

I remember I almost got to see it. There was such a big deal about the movie being really scary for kids. My parents said they would see it first, and if they thought it wasn't too bad they would go back and take me (I had not reacted well to the melting Nazi scene in Raiders three years earlier).
So they saw the movie and I asked if I could see it...my mom's exact words were "Not until you're 30." :csad:
