View Full Version : Ghost Rider Movie Countdown Thread

So, it's a year away and I figure this is a perfect time to start this thread. You knew it was going to happen eventually...
In most cases people post a comic cover and some information each day as the movie approaches. I'll do the same... though I don't think there are 365 comic covers to post. When we run out, I'll find something else.
So, here goes. 365 days to go.

I'm having to resist the urge to post my first GR comic cover here, but I don't wanna ruin yer mojo, Flamehead^^
Just want to say, the GR forum is the coolest forum on the Hype.
No fanboy fights, no pissing contests.....just a group of dudes who love Ghost Rider.
It's awesome.:up::up:

It rules, I'm happy.
But since you brought it up, how would just a loop of the logo itself look?

Great idea FH!Maybe with alternate covers, or other comics cover appearances we can fill the gap...the only prolem is the continuity...

Like Marvel itself really cares about continuity.....ok, nasty Quesada joke, check, I'm done.:D
I don't care, I'm throwing it up anyway, my first issue of GR:

Don't know what happened, who drew it, or anything, but I'll take the image of that cover to me grave.

Our love for this flaming headed demon is what bonds us together. I agree that this is the best section though. We keep it pretty clean and fight free, when possible.
I'm sure over the couse of this next year we'll have a lot of work on our hands to keep it that way though.

I'll definatly be posting the crossover covers as well... and I'm going to do my best to keep it in continuity. It'll be fairly easy for Blaze... but when we get into the Dan Ketch stuff, it'll be harder.

God these GR covers are really bringing me back. i remember the first time i bought my first comic book. It was Ghost rider(obviously) back sometime between 79 and 82. My Dad was trying to find me something to read while we were going on a looong trip up north(northern Wis). now when i see the cover of the first GR i ever read, ill know it. ive never been much of a collector but id love to find a copy of the first one "I" bought. To me....THATS my GR #1 ,first edition ,super collectable!!!! I have no idea how do discribe the cover it but ILL KNOW it!!! the last few comi-cons ive been to, ive been lightly searching for it(ill drive myself nuts if i get too serious about it). The reason for this post is because you guys have really stired and rekindled my appriciation for GR. Memories like this means alot to me.Not just because of GR, but because my Dad knowing i didnt know squat about comics, thought GR looked cool.(i was really close to my Dad) So i bought it..Damn he was right.. he is cool. (i was like 10 years old). Hope you guys have memories of your first comic ever. And maybe that first one is worth more to you than all the first edition #1s in the world...:ghost: :)

What I wouldn't give to have the entire collection...

I hear that my friend. Having no money sucks my butt. I really want to get all of Blaze's comics as well... but I want to finish my Dan Ketch collection first. I'm very close to doing so and when I do, I can then shift my focas to the first Ghost Rider. Of course, thsoe are more expensive. Damn.

Yesterday i was surfing at the SHH Batman and Punisher forums, heroes that live in my heart as well.
Jeez, low level stuff, specially in the Punisher´s.
It seems like China or Cuba, nobody can have an opposite opinion on the majority. No sir. Idiot, is one of the cute names the guys yell to the member.
And the most unbelieveble: the "hardcore" Punisher fans actually like that crappy movie, and attack everyone who says something against the movie.
They would have to hate the movie the most, because is really bad. Has nothing to do with the character, one the coolest of comics universe.
Anyway, is their problem.
I´m proud of being part of a very cool forum. High level, no low level words, democracy and freedom all the way.
We are the coolest fans around the net.
That´s for sure.

Nice words, Burn Forever. It's good to have you here.
I haven't had posted on any of the other boards, mainly because Ghost Rider is the only character I care enough about to comment on, but I've heard it can get quite catty elsewhere. Sometimes folk can get a bit, ahem, forthright, but I haven't seen any downright slagging on this board. Yet another reason to be proud to be a Ghost Rider fan.

I liked the Punisher movie, especially for the giant skull made of fire in the ending....
:ghost:
Heck, aftger the Dolph Lundgren movie i would defend this one too.
BTW i think it's very easy to be educate in a board of a movie not yet finished, with little to criticize. Moreso if the material showed until now actually please both fans and occasional viewers. Let's hope the board will be like this a year by now.

It certainly would be something special if that was the case but as more people start hanging around those nasty things will surely start. In some places, they have started now. The key is to ignore it as much as possible and not reply to the idiodic posts; something I have a hard time doing sometimes, especially when some people just wanna be negative and condessending just for the sake of doing so.
Anyway, I love this section of the hype and (sadly) consider it a second home. I just hope we don't get a lot of home wreckers in the near future.
Oh, and I really liked the Punisher movie too. I thought Tom Jane was great. They may have spent a little too much time developing it but, it was good none the less and I really can't wait for the sequal.

!~~~!
THE RULES: (for you lucky non-Survivor fans): The original group of 24 is carefully divided into three tribes of 8 from before the game begins. The tribes are constructed and built based on playing experience, talent and ability.
Each 'day' is marked by a new challenge. Each tribe will receive team challenges (instructions for challenges will be explained for each challenge). Right answers during challenges will obviously earn points and wrong answers will be worth none. The tribe with the most points at the end of the 'day' (or round) wins immunity. The tribe with the least points must vote off one of their members via PM in a tribal council. Also, in this game... immunity may be decided by something other than trivia. You will be completely briefed on this before it happens, so do not fret. In the event of any ties, first team with their answers in will win... unless stated otherwise in your specific challenge PM.
At some point the three tribes will be merged into one tribe. The game will only have one merge at a time already designated. Only the hosts will know about this day until the time it actually happens. Until that time, there will be mandatory trading set aside on a day that will be specified at a later time. Once the merge takes place, the challenges will then be for individual points and only one individual will win immunity.
Hype! Survivor is a game of both strategy and deception. Alliances are both permitted, and encouraged. So find a friend, and sex their brains out. Masterminding and forethought are the keys to success. Laziness and ineffective play will both be penalized and exposed. Hosts have the right to intervene at any point in the game for the sake of keeping dead weight out. As a side note: alliances can be with any of the 24 players... doesn't matter who they are... doesn't matter what tribes they're on... just make sure it's someone you trust... or not. As the old saying goes: keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
**NEW** The hosting duties in this game will be a little different. In order to ensure balanced and fair play, a third host will be heavily involved in the game. They will review questionable calls and challenges, and they will also break up conflicts between the two active hosts. In order to allow the game to flow smoothly, their identity will not be revealed until the end so their integrity to the game's fairness may never be questioned. They may also silently assist in challenge structures and the like. In case the Ghost Host feels the issue is too complex to rule on, we'll bring in a Ghost Jury. Both 'sides' will argue their case as complete as possible, and a group of Hype! Survivor experts will read both arguments and make the call. The hosts will be powerless to overturn the judgment call at this point.
The final Jury will be composed of 9 people: everyone voted off from the remaining nine players who didn't make the finals, and ss a bonus, the two game hosts will also have a vote in the Jury by the merits of a final challenge. They will not be responsible for collecting the votes, and will not see the outcome until everyone else does. The work of collecting votes will be up to the Ghost Host! The complete Jury will vote FOR WHO THEY THINK SHOULD WIN of the final two remaining players to find the winner of the Hype! Survivor.
A note on cheating: It's very easy to cheat in this game. Very, very easy. Some of the rounds will be much more difficult to cheat at than others (some will be downright impossible to cheat on). Regardless, hosts have ways of catching you, and sometimes will even set up traps for you. If you feel you have to cheat, by all means, go ahead... but if you're caught, you WILL be penalized. Again, specific rules of what's legal or not will be in each challenge PM.
Please keep in mind that these rules are subject to change with warning. They're merely a guideline for the game, and specific details may crop up here and there. Play hard, read carefully, and allow your cutthroat skills to shine forth. Voila!
!~~~!

Uhmm...the combo of the artist Jim Mooney and inker Sal Trapani seems to have been the best, judging from the covers. It seems that the famous GR curse (everytime a good artist/inker reveals himself on GR pages, making it a success, he's soon moved to more famous comics) started right from the start.
And sadly this will apply even to Clayton Crane.
FlameHead
08-21-2005, 07:13 AM
It's kinda hard to tell that from the covers because most of them weren't done by either of those artists.
Your very right on artists getting taken away from GR though. As sad a thought of Crane leaving us, it will most likely happen. If they had of made this Ghsot Rider series an ongoing one, we probably would have been able to keep him aboard.

Is this the issue that Jesus made an appearance in? I've been trying to remember exactly which one it was, but its been a while. I could look through my archives and find it but that would take some time considering as how my GR archives are quite extensive :) It would be easier if someone would tell me. I remember thinking when I first read it that it was pretty cool. I mean if they're going to depict aspects of Hell than why not include some references to heaven. Just seems fair and appropriate to me.
BTW, really cool thread FH. thanks for starting and maintaining it
FlameHead

Unfortunatly, I don't have that particular issue and I was unable to find any information on Jesus being in it. Somebody here will know though...

Yeah, it blew my mind back in the 90's when I walked into 7-11 and got a glimpse of the comic rack out of the corner of my eye, then did a double take. I was like no way!! I bought 3 :D I couldn't believe GR was back. Imagine, Ketch GR was out when you could still buy comics at 7-11. Haven't been able to do that for years.

BTW, really cool thread FH. thanks for starting and maintaining it
I recently read the essential ghost rider1 and it is indeed #9 that the "friend" first makes an appearance. He is briefly mentioned in a few issues between 9and19. In 19 they tried to say that it wasn't who it appeared to be, just another trick by satan, though I don't buy that, I think that the statement that it was a trick was in fact a trick  because in issue 9 satan had blaze hands down, then the "friend" saved blaze from satan.......why would satan save blaze from satan
I really liked reading the essential its dated stuff but good to read and refresh the memory on the old stories

Actually I did have a chance to look through my archives and find that out, but thanks anyway.
I believe I read somewhere that a new editor took over and made Tony Isabella write off the Jesus character as a trick by the devil. Its funny, some are offended by the mention of Jesus, but are perfectly fine with in depth storylines about satan and demons
Anyway, your right, it was a cheesy way to do it because why would satan save Blaze from himself??? Although my reading of issue 19 lead me to think that it wasn't cut and dry that it was a trick but rather satan was so deceptive that Blaze was left not knowing precisely what to believe.
On a different note, as I was rereading those earlier issues I came across things satan would say like "Blaze your soul will be mine" "you will do my bidding for all eternity". I found it intersting in the context of the upcoming movie because satan never says what that "bidding" is, but is intent on possessing Blazes soul even at the expense of other human souls, ie Witch Woman, etc. Why is Blazes soul so important to satan? MSJ answers--because satan needs the best cycle rider.

Well, here's how it looks; 13 more issues of Vol1, 96 issues of Vol 2 (including 2 annuals and the unpublished 94), 23 issues of SOV, 25 issues of 2099 (which I forgot to mention) 6 issues of Hammer Lane and 6 issues of the new GR (maybe more if it moves to an ongoing series, which we all want). That's a total of 169 covers... which means I'll have 101 covers of one shots and appearances to cover come the last few months.
Don't forget the covers for The Original Ghost Rider Rides Again reprints. Plus there is a killer cover of Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider done by Tex for a reprint titled Highway To Hell. I think I have that cover somewhere.

I definately didn't buy another comic for a long long time after that.

I can imagine it being a hard time havin' the run end. Unfortunatly, I wasn't into comics at the age of 5 so I really have no connection to the first run. The 2nd however, that's a different story...

I was damn happy to see that.
After I discovered (Somewhere in the #20's) that GR was back, everything stopped! I went on a mission the next day to 3 comic stores and got all the back issues. I got 2 2nd printings of this one, I couldn't find a 1st print :down .
This thread got me thinking, between V1 & V2 GR there was issue #274 of Amazing Spider-Man which showed Mephisto using Zarathos in a battle against The Beyonder and an issue of Thor (I think, somewhere in the #400's) that showed Mephisto holding the soul crystal. Thats it. Thats all I'm aware of that took place between the 2 series involving GR.
If anybody knows of any other occurances :ghost: between the 2 series, I would love to know

Ahhhhhhhh yes. That cover brings back memories. Now we're in my era!
:D
I remember when I first bought issue 1. Cost me $18 since I bought it around the time issue 12 came out and Ghost Rider had become quite popular by then.
Then I bought a second one one 4 years ago which cost me $3. That was disappointing, to see how much in price the comic dropped from when it was starting out. But I was also happy that it only cost $3 to get a relatively mint copy of the comic.

I was happy they brought GR back. I was pissed that they cancled the First series too.

I'm happy they brought him back too. Without the 2nd series, I probably would never have read anything about him and then probably wouldn't have been the horror comic freak that I am. I'd be like a Iron Man dude or something. *Shiver*

You're telling me.
Volume 2, Issue 1 is where Ghost Rider really kicked in for me, although I recall seeing volume 1 on display as a kid.
Flamehead: I have the copy of "What If?" which tells the alternate reality of what if Dan had died and not his sister. It tells a single shot story of how she becomes the Ketch-era Ghost Rider instead of Dan . . . somewhere in the cupboard here. I can try and locate it and scan it if you want to add it into this thread at some point (now that you've reached the appropriate era for it).

I have that issue as well; "What if Barbara Ketch had become Ghost Rider". It was a pretty intresting story actually with Barb's Ghost Rider bein' all crazy and not carein' about killin' people.
Anyway, no worries about the scannin' of the image.

Yeah, I really like the Suicide character. It is too bad he didn't stick around longer.
