I'm grateful for it. Without that review, we would never have known the truth. We would be walking into X-Men 3 totally unprepared for Cyke to get killed, and as a result, we'd walk out seething with rage and hate. Now at least we can prepare ourselves for it mentally.

3. Novel says he dies. That infamous "novel" link turned out to be a total fraud, the guy has since retracted his statements saying it was a "fan treatment" of the Novel....I also was sent the info on what happens in the "novel" and apparently Cyclops is ressaurectted, though its at the very end

4. Absence in the trailer.
Absence, quiet the opposite...he has been in everyone...quiet prominently to be fair. This "fan novel" sounded like a plausible explanation...however since he already falsified his own information, I can no longer trust it

Well, not to say it's impossible, but the whole rationale for Cyclops' "demolecularization" (shudder) in the first place was Marsden's unavailability. At the time the draft was written, it wasn't known yet whether he'd be able to return at all, let alone the 15 some-odd days he finally was able to. So that was the temporary quick-fix.

So I'd pretty much figure that was his curtain call, at least in that draft.

If that script review was never released, there would be no fan backlash to potentially influence the changes that were indeed made.

Although Cyclops could still possibly slip between those changes and die, but don't think for a second that Fox didn't hear the cries of angry fans.


I also think that if the script review never came out, the trailers would be very different in what they reveal. If Cyclops were to die, they'd keep it under wraps and not blatantly use it as a marketing scheme. But there is a script review and a lot of people know about it, so they're playing on our emotions. They said things changed yet we're seeing his infamous potential death scene in every trailer, it's all to get you in the theater seat to see what's up.

Anyway maybe Movie cyclops big role is he sets of Jeans rage. movie cyclops is not a great charatcer anyway, not one compared to his real comic self. So a role like that would save us the trouble of Mardsen attempting to act for to long.

I think I remain optimistic about Cyclops fate because it drives me nuts to think that the people making this movie are so out of touch with the fans and what they really want to see. They want to tell a Dark Phoenix story, but have Cyclops barely involved, which will be the case if he dies at Akali Lake. This is in no way representative of ANY Phoenix story I have ever read. And yes, this may be a new version, the movie version, but you know what, I'm not going to these movies to see the hollywood version. I'm going to see the stories that I read. I can understand slight differentials in storylines and characters, but killing off people, thats a major difference. Especially with a story that needs that character. It's like making a movie based of "The Killing Joke". Maybe they could do The Killing Joke movie, but lets not include the Joker, instead they could have Mr. Freeze shoot Batgirl. It would be stupid, you know it would be.

This has definitely been a HUGE rollercoaster ride! My opinion changed 2 pages back with Worthy's post with Kinberg's answers but I'm still keeping my expectations for Cyclops low and going in to the movie with an open mind. There's some optimism creeping back in though, I can't help it damnit!

I care about the treatment of Cyclops in the movies as well since I really enjoyed the last two and have both on dvd. I know his part wasnt nearly as good as the Comic books but I still loved those movies and seeing Cyke on the bigscreen was great. Now for him to be gone from the franchise forever when they are planning future movies would be propostrous and the worst move in any comic book movie.....period

I love Cyclops. Sorry Ghostman for not answering this earlier, but I guess I missed your first post. I was a huge Cyclops fan from the comics growing up. He has some very dramatic scenes in this film, and definitely a few surprises. The Cyclops/Scott in X3 is not the clean-cut boy from the first two films. Jean’s death in X2 really impacted him.

Jimmy is great fun on set. He’s actually a world-class impersonator, so he spent most of the time mimicking the other actors. I wish we had more time with him, but Superman held him hostage in Australia.

There are so many stories from the comics that I would love to see on the big-screen. I’m a religious “Days of Future Past” fan, and I love all the Weapon X storylines – though I guess that’s more appropriate for the Wolverine spinoff. Our biggest inspirations for X3 were clearly the Dark Phoenix Saga (my favorite storyline in the history of comics) and Joss Whedon’s “Gifted” run.

as i said before on here there is no such thing as 1st 2nd or 3rd gen lenses its all in the quality control of oakley. That pic has wierd lighting and focus(i took it with my phone) so the color is off, they are actually a lot more red than that. But if your asking if they have the largely sought after purple hues then yes... they do

also oakley made special pure red lenses for x-men that as far as I know you cannot buy. I saw them on ebay once, and they were something like 2,000 dollars... but what you see there is as red as you can get... officially

All we need is five heartfelt minutes between him and Jean at the end of the movie, and his absence during the second act will be forgiven. I think the writers will give us that. It's too important a plot/character point to alter from the comics to film.

I sincerely hope Jean can be saved, but even if she is defeated, Cyclops will have to be there to allow Jean to hold back her powers enough to be defeated. And I think we need Cyclops because we feel that grief and loss through him...

Well, that's with Logan. We only begun to see how much he loved Jean at the end of X2. To not have Scott be the one to bring Jean back (as it should be the person she has the closest connection to, to bring her back), would waste what Singer started to show.

Very true. I was only assuming that since MOST of his scenes were shot first. It would be great if most of his scenes were at the end! And then he came back just to do brief mansion and lake scenes!

In either event, Scott will appear in more than the two scenes we know. I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised. I think he isn't seen much because I think he leaves the X-Men, proabably for good, when he goes to the lake. But then when Jean comes back. He rejoins them at the end. Thus Wolverine and Storm are handling the whole mutant cure dilemma.

I've made this point before: Why would they custom fit Mardsen into the uniform JUST for the photoshoot? It's a waste of time and money if they don't use it properly.

I doubt that they would use the uniforms from X2 either.

While it doesn't prove that he'll live onto X4 (I hope) it shows that he has more scenes than yelling at the camera at the lake.

Well, if he would appear in a magazine or on a magazine and he does die yet he never appears in suit in the movie, whats the point of having him wear the suit for promo if he won't appear in it?? It makes no sense what-so-ever. If he wouldn't wear the suit and every else is wearing what they wear in the movie, they could've just simply not had him there and replaced him with somebody like Colossus or Iceman or whomever else isn't there.

It's a damn good sign he's there and just goes more toward the side I've been trying to get people to see; the positive side.

So you're thinking that he's 'dead' throughout the movie. Then surprise, he comes back near the end. Then he dies. It would ruin the tension building up for his arc. It's like "He's dead. Wait, he's alive! No, he's dead..again."

Which points towards something we don't know about happening. If rumors and true and logic prevails, then the movie opens with the Jean Grey childhood flashback, then opens up on the present with her funeral, Scott leaving the X-Men and the mansion behind him, and traveling out to start a new life and/or to sulk and grieve for Jean, so he goes to Alkali Lake to either A) Let out his anger or B) Say his final goodbyes to Jean in private amongst the last place she was alive, which explains his absence along with Wolverine's and Professor X's at the funeral. So there-fore, there'd be no room to show him in a uniform if he's just about to leave.

Yes but there is a difference in this case Halcohol! For X2 Rogue and Iceman were heavily marketed in their X uniforms and did appear in them for a few seconds. Here however all we see of Cyclops is him in his jeans and jacket, there's one, now two shots of him in uniform - Cyclops has been severly undermarketed, especially when it comes to him in uniform - secretive marketing strategy??
Imo these rare shots do hint that the leader of the X-Men will appear in uniform and hopefully longer than Rogue and Bobby in X2(let's face it, they were just X kids then, Cyclops role in X3 is much more important vs. their role in X2)
I'm still not sure how Cyclops fate will play out in X3 but imo this is a very positive sign that Cyclops will have more scenes than the ones we've seen!

They still wore their suits at some point in the film though! Think about it - how many opportunities is Cyclops gonna have to wear his uniform in X3?! He, more than likely, doesn't wear it before he goes to Alkali so doing the maths that leaves a very good chance that he'll have to wear it later on in the movie ie. possibly in the final battle.
