Grrr.

NO WAY!
Cyclops isn't hokey. It's a bad intepretation and representation of the Character in my opinion. No no trust me he is hokey at times

ahem

Cyclops: "Under the rules Gambit..."
Gambit: "I know Cyclops. Je suit mort-- I am now dead. As I always suspected... Redheads, they have a dynamite kiss."
Cyclops: "At your own risk my friend."
Jean: "I must confess, infuriating and arrogant as Gambit can be...Those eyes, that grin, the body--it takes a girlīs breath away."
Cyclops: "Oh, really? When the next opportunity presents itself...remind me to drop a truck on him."
Xavier: (Telepathically) {{Cyclops.}}
Cyclops: "A big truck."
Xavier: {{Cyclops!}}
Cyclops: "A REALLY big truck."
Xavier: "CYCLOPS!"
Beast: "Not to worry, Professor. While you were away, olī fearless here mastered the art...of deadpan humor."

It's just the biggest annoyance to Canadians that we're saturated with American culture on TV, music, and news and yet some Americans don't know anything about the country they live an hour's drive away from.

Alas...

So, yeah, anyways, how bout Cyclops? I'd try to say something here to change the subject but a lot of it's been discussed to death :p

As far as more "X-Men" films she said she hopes it happens. "Our original goal was to have like 'Star Wars', 'X-Men' 7, 8, 9 and 10

And people really think this is the last one. Ha, of the first trilogy.

Calgary is the biggest city in Alberta (the province just north of Montana), Canada. It's where the NHL's Flames play, has the Calgary Stampede every year, and hosted the Olympics in 1988.

okay, I'm from Brookfield........ I don't expect you to know where that is, I know it's probably 1/100th of the size, I don't know much about canada, and at this point in my life I have no desire to learn anything about it, law school full time and a full time job take up most of my time (don't have socialized medicine, so I have to work to get health insurance).......

TromaFreak64

it doesn't confirm them, it just state's what the internet rumors are.......

Right it doesn't confirm anything. It basically just says these are the rumors. However the fact that these rumors are being picked up by major magazines does leave some indication that they will not come to pass.

Typically rumors and spoiler information such as characters being killed in a major franchise that is known to the general public (the general public and media are also aware of the negative response) through spoilers and rumors do not turn out to be true. Marketing departments are aware and can even record these responses and then have it factored to determine how it will affect sales. These rumors rarely turn out to be true especially when film makers and actors have signed contracts stating they won't give any information or spoilers away, why would the studio then continue and promote such rumors?

The marketing concepts are pretty firmly in place. First, the general public (not just die hard fans) are aware of these rumors thanks to Premiere, MSN and other news agencies already picking up on them. Second, leading people on based on rumors is an effective away to promote cheap word of mouth advertising. Fox will want to encourage as many people as possible to be concerned or worried that a major character(s) may die to keep up the efficient advertising method. Third, they will want audiences to still be suprised and satisified with the overall product in order to warrant repeat viewings and purchases.

Currently movies do make money at the box office however the theater movie going expierence is being quickly dwarved by the DVD and Rental market. For example X2 made close to $406,449,694 worldwide. Now the DVD market actually is even more profitable as the cost associated with producing a DVD is low, even rental cost are low. The worldwide total for DVD and rentals combined is closer to $652,544,332 worldwide a year following its release (comic book resources and box office mojo do not seem to have data beyond one year after its release but it would be assume to still generate revenue to this day). On a side note even Daredevil produced over 55 million in DVD rentals and sales in its first five days. This number as well does not provide a proper outlook at how satifisfaction is increases sales. This fails to take into account merchandising which split between Marvel and Fox still made close to a billion dollars in merchandising. Which is currently Marvel's main source of revenue according to their most recent finacial statements.

I guess what it comes down to, these individuals are out to make money. As much as general audiences contribute to this money, they do not contribute the most at least according to the finacial statements. If Fox and Marvel's number one goal is to increase revenue and profit for their shareholders, why would they make a decision such as to kill off Cyclops despite the negative news. Studios and shareholders (who have as much if not more say than the executives as they are the ones who elect those executives and could effectively remove them if they ruin this franchise) why would they make a decision like killing off Cyclops when they know the impact something like that may have on the numbers. Especially after hearing reactions to the "leaked" script. Another common tactic used by businesses to get early consumer data.

I've heard arguments of studio politics, etc. which are actually funny when you think about it. I mean if it were true I know I'd use my votes against the current board for replacement and so would the other stockholders since its their money that is invested there. When leaders make decisions based on emotion instead of the bottom dollar that is when they are removed by the shareholders ie Eisner. There are many more examples, but I guess it all comes down to the numbers why ruin something that makes over a billion dollars in revenue (especially when your company does not have as many strong franchises as you major competitors). It could effectively destroy your market share.

All that said, a decision to kill Cyclops could still be made. Without having seen the numbers myself to know exactly how individuals reacted, and simply making assumptions that they were negative from what I have seen, I am being blind (stuck in my own paradigm) to the fact that many people may have responded positively to such a bold move. Realistically I don't believe this is the case as people naturally fear change. As a result, unless I see some solid proof elsewhere I do believe Cyclops dying recieved the most negative reaction (my assumptions based on the posts on message boards, the fact that MSN and other news outlets have reported poorly on the ieda). Until I hear different I have faith that Cyclops will survive based on the assumption that I continue to believe the dollar rules all.

cyke93
04-13-2006, 02:53 PM
Sure.....but only because I know it's really Mystique as Jean there with Logan....If it was the real Jean it would have been my worst scene from X2..........

we've seen more action between jean and logan than her and scott.... if they do kill off cyclops.. they should at least should have a scene, whether it be a flashback or not, to jean n scott doing the nasty ..lol ! but poor cyke needs play in this movie. i hope they give him that lol

cyke93
04-13-2006, 02:55 PM
Yes, he will. ;) He'll blast the Sentinels out of the sky.

I thought Cyclops had plenty of moments of glory in X2; Cyclops fighting the guards and fighting Deathstrike, Cyclops blasting at Magneto and Mystique, but missed, Cyclops versus Jean Grey.

i did like his scene of fighting deathstrike. it was actually james idea to include a fight scene. i saw that in the trailers and thought x2 was going to blow my mind.. so it was a disappointed to say the least to give cyclops a little spark in that short scene and then completely extinguish him for the rest of the film.

cyke93
04-13-2006, 02:58 PM
Anyone remember this picture, with Jean in it?

http://www.bibliopolis.org/graficos/pantalla/xmen2_6.jpg

Fox could be tricking us. The trailers so far show that Cyclops could die at the Lake, and maybe Fox wants us to think that, espically until now the only promotional image is Scott in causal clothes.

He could be in the final battle, maybe the only person who could stop Jean.

that was pretty sneaky of fox .. i say that whether you have a big movie such as x-men or coming out, they should not show anything (in photos, trailers, tv spots etc) in the last 30 minutes of the iflm.

OK LETS GET SERIOUS NOW....just wanted to start out this amazing cyclops post with a lil joke to mess with your minds :) This may actually be the best piece of news for all of us devoted fans that I have picked up on  THERE IS GREAT HOPE that Cyke lives!

My lil scoop is I was browsing through the new Premiere magazine at Barnes N Noble TODAY after lunch and stumbled on a sentence that I had to do a double take to make sure it was accurate

HERE IS THE Exact QUOTE FROM PREMIERE: In some ways, Marsden says, the third installement felt awfully familiar. Take those leather X-getups. "It was a Pavlovian response once I got into the suit: Ah yes, this discomfort, says the actor, who followed Singer to Superman Returns for a supporting role as Louis Lane's new man."

This confirms that James must of spent a good amount of time in the suit on the Xmen 3 set. What does this mean!!!??? Will CYKE TAKE PART IN THE FINAL BATTLE?? In my opinion its the most concrete evidence weve had so far on this Thread that Scott does indeed live. WORTHY...AND VANILLACYKE.....STORM....I NEED TO HEAR ALL YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS

Look, as I recently converted Ratner-holic, I have to say this:

Do you HONESTLY think the man who will, on May 26, deliver goddess!Storm, a big screen Juggernaut, the Dark Phoenix Saga, iced-up and ice-sliding Iceman, Colossus' role going beyond a cameo, Beast hanging upside down from the ceiling, a realistic-looking Angel, Psylocke, the Danger Room, Sentinels, the X-Men all lined up... whack Cyclops permanently in the first act of X3?!

Brett Ratner did in a few months what Brian Singer wasn't able to do in several years, and to top it off, he even rectified some of Singer's short-sighted blunders (I'm talking specifically about Storm's role here). Come on... This guy is a god!

Well I think it's part of the bodysuits they wear underneath their uniforms. like the one Jean has on when they bring her back to the mansion. His just happens to have a turtleneck.

THIS REALLY IS GOING TO BE THE WORST MOVIE NOW AND I HAVE CONCRETE PROOF HE GETS DEMOLECULARIZED. NOW DONT GET ME WRONG I WAS HOPING FOR HIS SURVIVAL Just as much as everyone here was and I have been posting on this board for quite some time now...........Cyke!! (get it Cyke lol)

I couldn't help noticing you being on here again! You were the guy who posted several spoilers and bits of information a while back (it's all in your post history) including stuff like 'Iceman doesn't do ice slides' and other stuff (such as Scarlet Witch being in the movie with glowing red hands).

Can you explain why you said all that stuff? As you admitted to being a fanfic writer based in Portugal, I assume you were making it all up.

I have faith in Ratner but...all those awesome things could make it into the film and it could still turn out sub-par. Faithfulness to the comics does not a good movie make.

Gladly! Like I explained back then, I got a(n early) draft of the script that was apparently either what Singer started out with, or something that was midway between that and the finished product we'll get on May 26. However, the script I was briefly trusted with was labeled as a "shooting script" and dated late 2005, so I don't know how many drafts exactly this movie went through.

The reliability of the source who handed me the script was such that I was briefly convinced we'd end up with that version on screen. It had Gambit, Scarlet Witch and Avalanche in it, and a slightly retooled ending. I did say that the people who kept attacking me should get ready to eat crow, but now that the draft I briefly had has been revised (and for the better, me thinks) I'm the one who has to do so.

The information I had WAS legit and I didn't make ANY PART OF IT up, but the script went through some changes. Not being Scarlet Witch, I can't alter that.

C'mon, you get an actor (portraying a main and pivitol character) for a brief period of time to film in what could be the last movie in a huge franchise, and you make him a figment of someones imagination?! The most recent news is encouraging and I really hope Cyclops gets his due. The only thing I am worrying about is that every bit of Cyclops info has to be investigated or inferred. I'd love to see one photo of Cyclops, in uniform, on set fighting or a direct statement saying he will be "in battle and suited up". The fact that we haven't had these confirmations means one of two things:

1. He dies.

2. They are doing a really good job of covering up his role.

I'm a pessimistic person, so I think 1. is much more likely but I hope to be proven wrong! :cyclops:

Well, we've seen both the trailers and the scene clip of the DR, and Logan, Storm, Piotr, Rogue, Bobby & Kitty are the only ones in it.

Plus, the first shot of the team in the teaser is assumed to be heading towards or exiting the Danger Room; as it features exactly the same characters in their exact same attire (Logan in civies, rest in X-suits), as well as the group shot with Ratner.

No Cyclops anywhere.

While James Marsden's Premiere quote insinuates Scott's survival (which is very encouraging news--let us pray now  ), I'd like to point out that he could have been merely referring to donning the leather costume for the promotional photo shoot. Certainly even wearing the tight-fitting garb for a brief session would be deja vu for the actor.

However, I'd rather believe he'll actually wear the uniform in the film. We'll see.

That's my point. His quote in of itself doesn't really prove he wears it in the film. It just shows he had to put it on at some point for this production. Post-production would include photo sessions requiring him to wear the uniform. All he mentions is that he experienced discomfort when wearing the leather get-ups...but he doesn't reveal anything beyond that.

As fans we have to keep things in perspective, lest we find ourselves dissapointed. And that's why it's important to stick to the facts: All we know for sure is that he wears it in the promotional materials. Will he wear it in the film? Possibly. Probably. But the fact remains that what we are hoping this quote means is basically conjecture at this point.

I'm not sure if you're well-acquainted with the nature of marketing, but I can assure you it makes total business sense.

Remember, this film is called X-Men. Cyclops is an X-Man. Therefore, for the sake of solidarity alongside other characters, he would be shown in the traditional costuming the franchise is known for among mainstream audiences. Consumers feed on relatable imagery. So to have Beast and Angel wearing X-suits on the cover of a magazine, and him wearing the casual garb we've seen him in so far would look silly on an aesthetic level--not to mention giving away a spoiler.

Cyclops is a face of this franchise--and in both X1 and X2's promotional images he has only been shown in the X-Suit. They wouldn't change his promo image now. So FOX (and by extension Premiere) would show Cyclops clothed in the X-Suit for the same reasons they don't have Angel naked on the cover: to project a united, familiar image to mainstream audiences.

Sorry pal you still have'nt sold me. Besides I seem to recall a character called Nightcrawler from X2 and in all his promo shots he NEVER wore an X-Suit.

Then where are the promo pics of Kate Bosworth post-sex-change, dressed up as a dude? :p

WHAT? that does'nt make any sense.

Good point. I just lost some hope. :(

LOL ;) Don't lose hope man. The quote does give a glimmer of hope--all I'm saying is that we have to keep it in perspective and "think outside the box".

No sense wasting money on a costume

Those costumes only cost a few thousand dollars each from what I recall (for example the F4 costumes ran about $5,000 each--and each actor was given a few for the duration of the filming! ). That is only a small morsel of a whopping $250 million budget, spent by a studio who wants to recoup all of it back plus more. Do you really believe they'd be so stingy as to not spend a few thousand for a costumed photo shoot if it meant the end result would rake in $$$ millions at the box office?

Marketing is one of the largest cost items on a film's overall budget. So $5,000 for a leather uniform is not going to break their wallet.

Nightcrawler was never an X-Man either. He appeared in 1 of 3 films.

In contrast, Professor X has only been shown in tailored business suits (and in a wheelchair) for all promo from 1999 till now. That's what the mainstream expects him to look like; that's what they identify with. FOX's marketing is not going to switch it up now. For example, it'd be out-of-character to suddenly show Charles wearing jeans or an X-Suit--even if he wore such in the actual film.

It is highly possible that Scott will don the uniform in X3--and I hope these speculations aren't dissapointed. But my point is marketing decisions are not always governed by events in the footage.

Dont lose any hope at all people!!! That quote practically says that this third installement felt awfully simmiliar to James Marsden since he had to wear the X Suit. Now Im not trying to be a problem but Lightning really does remind me of someone in the movie business. Its SIMON....I SWEAR IT IS

HE IS GETTING NERVOUS DUE TO OUR EXCITMENT. Now I dont know if this is a good or bad thing. Kinsberg u have been discovered :)

U GUYS THINK WHAT U WANT BUT I am going to investigate all of Lightnings posts....It seems very fishy to me. Someone wanna help me here. Ofcourse he will deny it but somebody help me with this please. I really have a hunch its him

Well I still don't believe they would put him in a suit if he's not gonna wear it sometime on film.

I doubt it. Lightnings been here for a while. Don't get to paranoid.
BTW, I haven't lost all hope I just think that his fate is up for grabs still. I'm hoping and thinking that he'll come back in the final battle.
