At the end of the day, Wolverine is still obsessing over a woman who outright rejected him TWICE in TWO MOVIES, just because he's had the hots for her since he first looked at her. This guy seriously needs to get laid, because he's got some serious problems. At least Cyke (A) won Jean's heart and (B) still has his balls by the time he checks out. :p
Haha . . . figuratively speaking . . . otherwise, they get demolecularized with the rest of him. Ouch.

i have the dvd on now. deathstrike shoots him (doesnt specify w/ what) and it then shows cyke from the shoulders up. it hits him lower (off camera, he looks down) and then he looks back up and blasts her. he blasts a security guy then punches 2 to the ground. then deathstrike leaps (breaking some kind of distance record) puts her feet against a wall w/ cykes head in between and kicks him silly
Thanks! ....though I personally have no idea how to interpret that as to Cyke's level of being at fault. I mean, maybe he was weakened immediately, or maybe he just didn't want to go full blast on someone else (he always seems a little wary of that), which may have been a bad choice in this situation.
I'll let the others debate it out.

Oh I'm sure they just haven't shown us his castration scene yet. For what we know already, I doubt FOX will leave him with that much dignity.

I remember getting this far into the movie, and thinking "finally, their starting to portray Cyclops in a good way". He leaves as Xavier's right hand man, and puts up a great fight, and gets beat because it turns out the girl he hit first was a lot more powerful then she appeared, and she caught him off guard. Then his charcter gets mostly sidelined...and then we get this.
My biggest fear is about the effect this will have on the comic books. I remmeber when X1 came out, and then get an issue of X-Men where Mystique shows signs of blue scales, and toad looks like his movie part.
what will this bring us? Jean back to life just long enough to decide she really likes Logan...and blasts Cyclops away?

I know what you mean. The Superman comics have been royally screwed by Smallville, and I remember when Riddler became a cackling goon for a while because of Batman Forever... Peter Parker now has "evolved" organic webshooters thanks to the movies... yeah, you have a point.

I heard the only reason why Cyclops fought at all at that point was because Marsden thought it would be better that Cyclops put up a fight instead of just going down.
Also...while the character is well trained in martial arts :D!, how would anyone know to counter deathstryke's 'pinning' manuever? It's really odd; that and Cyclops only wanted to incapacitate, not kill, her and did not know her to be a mutant.
*sniff* such a nice guy to err on teh side of caution...like assuming Jean isn't evil... *cough* :o

I have 5 bucks riding on Callisto coming back out of the blue with normal looking arms, tatoos all over, and the ability of superhuman speed.
I guess we'll just have to live with Wolverine being in even more places at once for a while. At least I'll have Whedon's stuff to keep Cyclops in the mainstream.

Looks like I was wrong about him living. Oh well, least we tried and fought hard till the very end.
That picture represemts everything that is wrong with this movie.

Hi guys, I'm kinda new here. Like a lot of you I was very dissapionted with Scott's fate in the movie. I just hope he is portrayed better in future movies (preferrebly a reload of x-men franchise and have the story revolve around the original five).
Well, at least we have the comics right? I mean Scott (along with Kitty) is pretty much the main character in Whendon's astonishing and almost all the core x-men titles have stories that revolve around the Summers clan.

here is a quote from marsden from comicscontinuum.com before x3:
QUESTION: Where would you like to see Cyclops go in future installments?
MARSDEN: I think the great thing about the X-Men Universe is that you have 40 years of backstory and characters that you can draw from. So we really left the doors wide open to go anywhere. I would like to see Cyclops mix it up with some of the bad guys a bit more. It would be nice to see him a little more liberal with that optic blast.
I think that's because I really enjoy the action aspect of the film. I enjoy getting in there and getting bruised up. It would be nice to see a little more action, a little more fighting sequences for Cyclops.
And, also, on the other end of that, to see where he goes emotionally now that Jean is evolving, to see where that takes him and what kind of road he chooses to go down with his relationship.

Its sad to know that the only person with any real ideas about using Cyclops in a way actually anywhere close to how Cyclops is portrayed in the comicbooks, has no say in what role his character plays...eventhough he's a good actor who could pull off the bigger role with ease.

His death is sadly going to have little to meaning to the mainstream seeing as how he barely got anything done in the entire franchise.

I'm afraid that's too late...the general public will wonder "Where did X-Man...you know, the guy with the claws, go?"
Basically, I'm just hoping for a TV series more in the vein of Ultimate X-Men...Then we could at least get a more rounded team focus, instead of a one-man show.

Has anyone in here discussed Scott's role reversal in the beginning of this movie? How carless he is? Thats not Comic-Cyclops, and I think this is an important clue in piecing Scott's fate together... If Scott dies as a careless, rough, mourning character - his character arc and emotional arc have not come full circle, let alone a suitable conclusion. Just thought I'd point that out.

From Yahho! movies:
Three Good Reasons
More mutants, including the brainy but furry Beast, winged Angel, and the unstoppable Juggernaut.
More drama, with a resurrection, a love triangle, and the death of a team member.
More action, from training in Professor X's "Danger Room," to a battle on the Golden Gate Bridge

That was what I had to respect about X1 - the climax wasn't IMHO the most exciting - but at least we had the whole teamwork thing going on - in fact, it was very much like the comics: especially the whole thing with storm elevating Wolverine and Jean balancing him out with her powers to rescue Rogue.
X2...not so much in the obvious sense: there was still teamwork though - just a little more split up (ie Jean dealing with brainwashed Cyke, Nightcrawler and Storm getting the kiddies and them poofing into the fake Cerebro, Wolverine taking out Deathstrike) - still, it worked well.

Reasons to Be Happy...Sorta....
Because I believe in seeing the good in this disaster, no matter how small...
1. Cyke was eliminated because he was a threat to be reckoned with
Let's face it: this film should have had Cyke at it's heart - I don't need to explain the details or reason: you folks know this already. If Cyke lived past Alkali Lake, there would be no way to prevent him from getting his due - and with the desire to place Wolverine front and center and expand on Storm - Cyke had to go, and go in a permanent fashion. He was so powerful an adversary to the will of Fox he had to be killed.
2. Cyke: Enough to fill two characters
Cyke's role and persona in the X3 story and X-men in general was (it seems) deemed great enough to beef up not one but two other characters (Storm and Wolverine) - not to mention the leading pair of characters Fox most favored. That says a lot about Cyke.
3. Cyke >>>Storm and Wolverine
Despite the attempt to graft Cyke onto Storm (as leader) and Wolverine (as lover/savior of Jean), neither Storm nor Logan can match Cyke in these roles. Storm can't save Xavier. Wolverine can't do much to redeem Jean either. They're still no match for Cyke.
4. A Special Place in Hell.....
Let's face it: the AICN leak was the will of the Comic-verse Powers That Be (or whatever deities oversee and protect the great comic stories and characters within them). These Powers knew that Cyke didn't deserve the shaft and gave any and all involved who had the resources and will to turn thing around the chance to do so and make all things right in the Comic-verse.
While these individuals failed to take this opportunity to do right by Cyke and the X-Men, I take comfort in the fact that the Powers That Be are very very angry and have a special place in hell for these people.
lol..
but i think i should stop going here. theres never any good news. there was so much promise with that interview hugh gave, but omg we went through a complete reversal with the jr and claremount novels and things went from bad to worse with the first round of press screenings.

You know, I was just thinking how great it would have been if Cyke had lived and he and Wolverine were forced to team up to save Jean. Cyke would have to acknowledge that someone else cares about Jean; Wolverine would have to realize that Cyke is the ultimately the one truly capable of saving her.
It would have been nice to see their clashing personalities come full circle and their issues resolve due to their dedication to Jean. Fox would still have plenty of Wolverine scenes, and we'd still get Cyke fullfilling his part; in addition, we'd get some resolution to the Wolverine/Cyke drama and a real evolution of their personalities.
In X1 and X2, there was the running joke that Singer and Co threw in with Wolverine stealing Cyke's thunder (macking on Jean, taking his bike and car, etc) - it was like they knew Wolverine was a threat to Cyke, but never let it go too far and hence they could joke about it...
....now, it's not a joke anymore.

if the movie was like that then it would feel like there just mashing two storylines that dont coincide or have anything to do with each other...
the whole final batte and magnetos crazy army is all based on the cure...putting that cyclops relationship would be like "what the hell is this doing here?"

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND'S JAMES MARSDEN
http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclops1th.jpg (http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclops1.htm)
NEW YORK -- In the which-is-going-to-be-better debate -- X-Men: The Last Stand or Superman Returns? -- James Marsden can't lose.
That's because he's in both films, returning to play Cyclops for a third time in X-Men: The Last Stand, and playing Richard White, Lois Lane's fiance and father of her child in Superman Returns.
"It feels like a dream, really," Marsden said during the X-Men junket on Friday morning.
It could have been a nightmare, too, with X-Men filming in Vancouver and Superman Returns in Sydney, Australia. In fact, when Marsden was hired by Bryan Singer -- director of the first two X-Men films -- for Superman, rumors swirled that Cyclops wasn't going to be in the third X-Men movie. The nastier rumors even had Marsden fired. http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclops2th.jpg (http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclops2.htm)
They couldn't have been further from the truth, Marsden said.
"It was really a pretty easy thing," Marsden said "It was just like a scheduling issue.
"When Bryan called me and asked if I'd be interested in playing a part in Superman, at the time the director hadn't been set yet on X-Men 3 and they were targeting an August or September date. And I think Bryan's film was starting in March, so I just proceeded like that.
""And I knew that when it got down to the wire we would have to work out dates, and Fox and Warner Bros. thank God for them they were just really collaborative in making it work."
Cyclops is featured heavily early in X-Men: The Last Stand which picks up dealing with Jean Grey's apparent death at Alkali Lake in X2.
"Obviously, he's taking it real hard," Marsden said of his character. "As an actor, I admire Scott's devotion, his feelings, toward Jean Grey. And it was fun for me. http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclopsmugth.jpg (http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0605/14/cyclopsmug.htm)
"There's a bit of role reversal between Logan and I in this movie, where I actually become a little more irresponsible and emotional and he's a little more responsible. It was fun.
"He's a little more weathered and he's mourning Jean's death. I think he's at a crossroads of his life and is being haunted by her presence and he doesn't want to close the book just yet because he fees like therešs something nipping at him, her presence or soul or whatever. He's having a tough time."
In Superman Returns, White is the nephew of The Daily Planet's Perry White and the object of Lois Lane's affection, which causes Superman no small consternation upon his return.
"It was great to be with Bryan again," Marsden said. "I think he's doing a pretty amazing job with it. It was a long shoot, eight, nine months.
"In many ways, it felt like you were working on an X-Men film because Bryan has a very specific way of working and creates a very specific tone on the set. And he has a group of people Mike (Dougherty) and Dan (Harris), the writers, and (director of photography) Tom Sigel so, it felt safe. You feel very safe with Bryan because you know he's going to take your best and put it up there."
Marsden said Singer wasn't overly curious about how X-Men: The Last Stand was going.
Bryan has an unwavering focus when he's working on something. He can't be bothered with," Marsden said. "Obviously, it's a great part of his life and he's very close to the X-Men world and he's proud of what he created. I donšt want to speak for him, but thatšs what hešs told me.
"I went to do X-Men and then I went actually went back and finished more work on Superman afterwards. And I was waiting for him to ask me something about it. And he said, 'Oh, how was it? How as it?' He's very good with friends with Brett (Ratner, X-Men: The Last Stand director) and therešs a great mutual respect for each other."
And while it's highly unlikely you're going to get Marsden to vote for one film or the other, he did favor Superman Returns in one regard: "I don't have to wear the glasses or visor," he said with a laugh. X-Men: The Last Stand opens May 26. Superman Returns opens June 30.

I have a serious question for all Cyclops fans. On the 26th, what will you do when it gets to that scene? Will you shut your eyes and plug your ears, leave, or simply sit there and watch while shaking your head?
I know a few people are refusing to see the film because of this, but what do you all intend to do?
Me? I'm afraid I'll probably just my eyes and not see it happen at all.

For the sake of absolute argument. IF Cyclops lives and this is all just a huge elaborate hoax to catch people off guard, then I know for a fact that I'll burst out with tears of joy.
But I do appreciate the positivity and the whole belief that some fans have at this point, however, Fox wouldn't go to such lengths to mess with fans and hope for the best.
Granted if the movie was to be released late June or early July, then the theory would hold true and actually make sense due to the length of time available. Unfortunately I just don't think it's meant to be. :( :( :(
For those who believed and stood strong, we held on long enough and even though it's disappointing, disgusting, and stupid to the large degree, we can hold our heads up and say that we fought to the very end for the character of Cyclops.

Things we were told we'd see, but weren't seen in Previews/Press Screenings:
Phoenix Effect - Its been confirmed we'll see FIRE, not just creepy eyes and shadows
Phoenix Rising - This is the Phoenix Saga's movie! It has to be there, and besides, it was shown slightly in the TV Spot. Why would they waste money on effects if it won't be in the movie?
Storm vs. Phoenix
Colossus vs. Juggernaut
Psylocke's Powers - Mei said we'd see Psi Blades, her merging into walls, and turning into shadows...
Iceman's Ice Slide
Logan's Bar Scene
Storm's Tidal Wave
Rogue's Mother
Mystique's Voice
Kitty/Bobby Kiss

Darth Ratsomething said taht we'd see Storm's tital wave for a couple of seconds and PWR said we'd see Psylocke trasport once and glow a little. Also Wolverini (if he's telling the truth) said we'd see the Sentinel leg and a ten second Colossus Juggeranut fight. And were the ice slide and firey Phoenix effects really confirmed confirmed? The others puzzle me too though.
Wow a whole ten seconds for Juggernaut vs Colossus!!!!!!!

Has anyone seen the Continuum interview with Marsden? It's good to hear he's happy about everything even though most of us are'nt. But it's funny they say "Cyclops is featured heavily in the begining" they should of followed it up with "because he dies about 10 minutes into the film" They also say to stay and watch after the credits cause it involves one of the characters fates. Which we all now is the Professor and not Scott.

in regards to that interview james gave.
ofcourse he's happy. he gets to be in 2 of the biggest movies of the summer. im pretty sure he didnt want cyke to bite the dust, but figured it was better than nothing, complaining or saying anything negative about his treatment with x3 will make him come off as a "diva" he's not a big star like hugh or halle to demand certain things so he took the high road. "beggers and cant be choosers." i bet you that deep down, when he first got the script he said: "thats it" but you'll never hear him in public say that. in the end, he'll have the unwavering support of all cyclops fans.
this by no means justifies fox' action. come may 26 give 'em hell !

I wish I had money. I'd print a ton of shirts, saying C2: Cyclops Fans - United, give them all out to people who show up the the premiere in the US. all the media and everyone involved in the film will see all those people wearing cyclops shirts. I'd also do the same thing for lets say the London premiere, etc. ... then id distribute them to theatres all across the country, esp in major hubs like in ny, la, chicago, boston, philly, houston, dallas, etc etc.

the whole final batte and magnetos crazy army is all based on the cure...putting that cyclops relationship would be like "what the hell is this doing here?"

When Wolverine borrowed Cyke's motorcyle in X1 (and X2) it was funny - a little in-joke between the film-makers and the fans - but in the end that's all it was, because Wolverine never really replaced Cyke no matter how much of the show he might have stolen. Cyke still had some nice scenes, he still got the girl....

This so confusing.....
I dont think your version is the one coming out... Cyclops definitely is DEAD, Jean doesnt supernova though I suppose it is sort of a sacrifice and there are no sentinals in the movie (Well there is a HEAD of one but its in the dangeroom). There is a suprise ending involving Xavier and Moira after the credits though, but that might not stay in the theatre version.
Jean did nova (you could tell it was unfinished but it looked cool), Cyclops wasnt dead, But Jean thinks she killed him and that sends her over the edge. We see more than the sentinel head. Xavier and Moria was never in the version I saw.
"Is there a set-up for X-4? Also, is there anything if you stay till after the credits?"
There is a set up for X-4, and there is a scene after the credits involving cyclops

They showed two versions which had variations in a few scenes* but they made no difference to the films plot at all.
*In version 1, Reed & Sue have a romantic chat in a planetarium, for Version 2 this scene (almost line for line), took place at the Statue of Liberty and Reed did an stretching effect with his chin.
In V1, Bens kicks over the fire hydrant and aims the water straight at Doom. In V2 the water shoots at a streched Reed first who funnels the water onto Doom.
In V1, When Reed proposes he just goes down on one knee. In V2 he does the same but his head remains where it was at first before stretching back down to his body.

James, I am a huge X-Men fan, and am a big fan of your portrayal of Cyclops in the "X-Men" trilogy. Rumors of your characters' death in X3 have myself and many other fans weary, as we'd like to see Cyclops finally get a big piece of the action, and think that your capabilities of an actor more than qualify you for more than just a supporting role in these films. How would you respond to fans concerning this particular issue?

James, I am a huge X-Men fan, and am a big fan of your portrayal of Cyclops in the "X-Men" trilogy. Rumors of your characters' death in X3 have myself and many other fans weary, as we'd like to see Cyclops finally get a big piece of the action, and think that your capabilities of an actor more than qualify you for more than just a supporting role in these films. How would you respond to fans concerning this particular issue?
I soooo wish that would go on air!!!

Good one. Maybe he'll confirm his death.
It's confimed anyway, but I'm sure if he was to answer it that he'd be tactful in his answer. He did the right thing by taking the high road and being a professional about it.

In which way are you disagreeing? He couldn't have raised hell about what they did to Cyke-it'd give him a bad rep and cost him work. He's not a big enough star to pull that kind of stunt.

Very good question. I'd like to see it answered.

I heard from someone who is working for an exec who USED to work for FOX that Scott's diminished Role is because Marsden wasn't a big enough star...
By the way, I think we should be very thankful because I think its clear that Marsden came back for the fans...honestly, if he is to die like that, he could have opted out. But what would have been worse than his death is having another actor, Fake Cyclops, dying. So thanks ac kudos to James for coming back despite the treatment he's been getting.
BTW, after all I;ve heard about Bryn Singer, I'm kinda glad he's out. Honestly, if he pulled what I heard on a movie I was producing, I would have fired him in the middle of shooting!

I also hope that there is a different version coming on May 26th.
I think we'll finally get our answer on whether Fox cares about the fans by seeing if they kept in Cyke's death despite fan outrage for over a year!
I also heard that Fox does NOT plan to do an X4. I think the Wolverine moview will continue the franchise and be cheaper to produce. I've already decided I will NOT see Wolverine: the movie!
BTW, anyone see the new clip of Jean, X, and Mags at her house. It aired on Carson Daily and is incredible! I think other hat Cyke's treatment, this movie will be phenomenal.
I just bought my midnight ticket for the first showing in Burbank, CA. Anyone done a midnight showing before? How earlly should I get there? Ten o'clock?
