..."My favorite action scene playing Angel was my first flying scene,"...
The key word in that quote being FIRST FLYING SCENE, which means he did multiple flying scenes, yayness....
ditto. that free fall one looks dizzyingly amazing.

any thoughts about ben foster's recent slip referring to his character as "archangel"? do you think that during this film angel somehow loses his wings (i.e., burned by pheonix while he's in flight) and perhaps choses to replace them with metalic prosthetic wings?

I notice that too. Maybe at the end his wings will get cut off revealing a follow up plot scenerio for X4. Apocalypse?

He has been referred to as Archangel at times when he didn't have metal wings. I really don't think it means anything.

All we know of Angel's role is that it involves a flashback of a younger version of Angel trying to cut his wings off. Then we know that his father is the person who gave the 'cure' the green light. He saw Warrens mutation as a curse so he wanted to cure it. We see the image of Angels wings strapped down and him looking out of the window. I get the impression that he wants to break free.
So, we see in the teaser Warrens father attempting to give Angel the cure. Warren struggles because he doesnt want it. I am sure we will hear something along the lines of 'Its for your own good.'
Angel breaks free. Jumps out of the window.
THAT is all we know. What happens after Angels breaks free? Does he fly around? Does he see a bridge being destroyed? Does he have a flying race with Jean? Will he fall to the ground because this is probably the first time he has actually flew?
I am sure we will find out more things from the next trailer. Anyone have any ideas about what he does after he throws himself through a window?

I think its safe to assume he steals something from the lab as well - perhaps the cure. I remember (From memory) that he has a brown bag or something when he jumps out the window from the stunt pictures..

All I heard was Angel flies right over the crowd outside, then just flies away.
I had a really sweet dream last night. It was one of those dreams where one can actually feel it. I dreamt I had wings and just flew and dove around. I can still feel that feeling of flying high, and diving straight below, narrowly avoiding the ground.

angel's wing should have looked like gundam wing zero custom's in the film endless waltz.
he should also have had a similar reveal...

a layered multi wing idea would have been more than adequate and far more realistic.
anyone who has watched the reveal on endless waltz will know that's the way wings are supposed to be. it's a shame they will look better on a mechanical being than what this real person is going to have to work with

And since when did Angel have a multi-layered wings in the comics? Never. What animal in the world, period, has wings like that? That is definitely NOT more realistic.
November Rain
02-22-2006, 06:37 AM
he's a mutant, it's not about looking realistic but being able to provide the sufficient life needed for flight
besides the film world is an adaptation, not a translation of the comic one. changes are allowed.
I do hope that he does get a wing configuration like so if indeed apocalypse is introduced in further films.
Specter313
02-22-2006, 06:42 AM
Certain changes do get made, but not something like that. Those extra wings, placed like that, wouldn't do much of anything else besides look pretty.

Specter313
02-22-2006, 06:50 AM
And that's all it's good for. Looking pretty. They'd be too big and take up too much room so he wouldn't be able to hide them at times when he needed to. And they'd create extra cost to the film. Overall they add nothing to the character and therefore they should just stick to the traditional version of the wings.
November Rain
02-22-2006, 07:50 AM
to be fair all and any different wing design used would have added nothing to the camera.
at least have them be pleasing to the eye.

Quick thought... anyone else think Cameron Hodge could possibly be in this movie? IMO he would fit perfectly for this storyline.
I really wish they'd have put him in, though, i wouldn't want him to be just another 'young' actor like they got with Foster (Hodge and Worthington are supposed to be the same age, right?). IMO Robert Patrick would've been an awesome Cameron Hodge.
Anyway, i think it's cool someone mentioned him on here.

Q: Does she have a few scenes with Wolverine?
Ratner: She has a bunch of scenes in this movie. She's one of the X-Men; she has scenes with everybody. For Beast…I can't take credit for casting Kelsey Grammer but I can tell you that now that he's put that costume on, I don't see another actor who could play that part better than him. I think Kelsey Grammer was probably born to play Beast and not Frasier [laughs]. This guy-his intelligence as a person and as an actor, his voice, and the way he's personified. When I see Kelsey Grammer I get freaked out on the set because it's not him, he's Beast. He's been cured, temporarily during the day. He is fantastic. I think all the new characters…and what I've done really is taken Bryan Singer's essence and put it into me. I don't know if that's said properly [laughs]. If Bryan was directing this movie, who would he hire? So I was very careful and it wasn't because I wanted to make sure that he was happy with the movie at the end when he sees it-even though I care what he thinks because I do respect his work-but it's moreso that I didn't want to all of the sudden have some 'Where did that come from'. I knew the focus on these movies cause you can't complain about Ian McKellen cause he was in the first one with Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry. But what did Brett bring to this movie as far as the new actors and new characters? And so I was very careful in choosing the new characters, the new actors for the new roles and making sure that it was within the universe and it wasn't like 'Where did that come from'. You know, like Brett was catching butterflies over there while he was casting this movie. I stayed very true, I think, to the universe. There's some other evil mutants. We refer to as 'muties' -I don't want to give you their names because it's not official right now-but there's muties that have actually joined Magneto, and a very talented young actress by the name of Dania Ramirez who is one of Spike Lee's muses or favorite actresses, and I put her in this film. She's fantastic. And Angel, that was a hard thing. Every handsome, gorgeous young actor came in and wanted that part. Even Edward Norton who I worked with on Red Dragon called me and goes, "I wish I wasn't in China right now making a movie! I wanna play Angel!" I mean, it's like everyone's favorite character. And for me the important part was getting a great actor. In the comic he's drawn as kind of a beautiful, angelic actor but I wanted to go for the guy that personified him. Angel is a pretty tormented character, and I think one of the most powerful scenes in this movie is with Angel, I believe, emotionally. So I saw hundreds of actors and Ben Foster just came in and stole the part. He was just like, "I am this guy" and I believed him. He's done a fantastic job at acting out the complexity of Angel, because you could have been safe and just had a beautiful young man who can spread his wings and fly, but there's more to that. These actors and these characters especially have a lot of dimension, and you need an actor that could bring that dimension to the role. Ben Foster definitely did it. And he's worked out harder than Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull". This guy works out like 12 hours a day and his body has just completely transformed himself for the part. They're heavy wings, you can't just be a skinny little Jewish kid and carry them on your back. You gotta have some muscle so he put some mass on. He's devoted to the part.
WorthyStevens
02-23-2006, 12:32 AM
Q: What does that mean to you as the supervisor? Is it just like a seven day a week grind for you? Are you just always on the go with not a moments rest?
Bruno: Well, this film, I've been here 7 months, had 2 days off, because if it's not first unit, it's second unit. And the problem we've got, no, it's not a problem, it's just the issue we have is the biggest sequence, visual effects wise, is the entire end of the movie which we are shooting now. Usually you try to schedule that in the beginning, and the original approach to the film was that there are so many visual effects shots, we should try to get as much done in-camera as possible. So we built a full size section of the Golden Gate Bridge, which I don't know if you've seen, and a 1 to 1 section of Alcatraz that matches Alcatraz that we have to basically line up visually, and with photographs and real helicopter footage, and footage we shot looking at the island from the ocean. So, it's very complicated and part of the concept, even with the second unit working with Simon Crane, is that we try to do as much, he can do as much in camera as possible. Like Angel flying for real in a location. What Simon's been really helping with is putting the actors in the real environment, for real flying them on wires, dropping them off the roof up here. We have our Angel character, we pulled him 200 feet up in the air and swung him over the street in Briarton, out here, it was supposed to be downtown San Francisco. We really did it, and then basically what we have to do, in that concept, is take the cable and the rigs out and then add wings in CG. So the lighting's going to be right, we know what the shadows are supposed to look like, it will advance us into our schedule, and there will also be a guy, where we're not compositing him into the shot, just adding the wing. So that approach on a lot of levels throughout this film will take it to another level. The whole goal that I've seen studying the first two films, because I wasn't involved in the first two, is that realism is the goal. It's not fantasy, it's not a 'Lord of the Rings (http://www.superherohype.com/news/featuresnews.php?id=3866#)' approach to anything in there. These people don't do magic, they really have some strange power, and what it has to do is lock somewhere in reality. So whatever we do has to be based in nature, and that's the goal, and we're trying to stick to that.

it would be nice if he pretended to be a hunchback so people wouldn't question the bulky back he has when in civilian costume...

To me, well obviously there is going to be a slot in the back for his wings.
I'm guessing now that his uniform is zipped up in the back rather then the front. It would make no sense to have a zipper in the front of his suit really. His suit should be designed thathe puts both arms into it, in the front and zips up a portion behind is neck and then a portion on his lower back. In his Ultimate X-men uniform its more of a tanktop design so no room for somparison there. But most logically i would assume it zips up in the back, besides 10 feet wings arent the most flexible

The budget would go to the special effects, on scene that last more than a few seconds, on Jugg's body, on Collosus, Storm's eyes, and the list goes on..........it wasn't something that's very noticable as I said, They show it off on the trailer on a close camera angle yet hardly anyone actually notice it themselves, why bother? IMO

Oh, believe me, someone would notice. And they do still do small stuff like this on movies with large effects. This reminds me of something I saw on another SFX heavy movie. Remember in Jurassic Park, when the people are crawling around in the ceiling, the one raptor pops it's head up through the panel the girl is crawling on, then gets kicked back down by Sam Neil's character, but the panel falls through with the girl? She's hanging there and they have to pull her back up before the raptor gets her. Thing is, that was her stunt double, and there was a part of it where she ended up looking straight at the camera. And even though she looked quite a bit like the actress, they still went back in and put the actress' face on that one quick frame so no one would notice it wasn't her.

Oh no. I never said nobody would notice, someone would eventually. But not the majority public would be aware though. And the possibility is always there for them to do a little touch up here and there, but I highly doubt it. I think every movie is detail oriented however there's usually a few slip-ups now and again such as the blue folder in the presidents table or the nightcrawler scene where he's saving the kids, I suspect it'll be one of those cases.

Alot more people than that would notice, and than those people would put it up places where others would find about it and then for some people that could take them out of the scene because they know about it then and the scene won't feel the same to them. Don't laugh, it happens.

So much power in that one simple line. It represents the everyday struggle between father and son in our society. And the symbolic Angel spreading his wings and flying away. I have been very excited to see Angel in this film ever since I heard Foster nabbed the role. He is a very underrated actor.

Visually, they look around the same age...Shawn is a year older, but if the movie told me that Angel was 2 years older than Iceman, I think they can pull it off and would make sense because Iceman is still supposed to be a late teen in the movies I think..

There are pics on some german site that comics2film has linked to. Loads of screen shots, and some posed shots (probably testers) of Ben in his X-Man uniform. I dont know if that is one of those sites that is illegally posting pics (they do have Fox on em) so I wont put them up here. Looks pretty cool - though more and more I'm disappointed in the individuality of the uniforms. Other than colour piping, not much changes from person to person. (Cept Beast and Colossus)

I hope so - it would be strange to introduce an important character like Angel only to serve as a plot device.

I think he may be used to carry around some of his teammates, so they can do some of their most absolute worst from above (especially if it's against a Sentinel).
That, and I hope he finds a bazooka. :p

This may be slightly off-topic, but what the hell.
Right now I'm playing X-Men Legends II and I got to see a cutscene where you find out Angel has been kidnapped by Apocalypse, who has been experimenting on him so he becomes Archangel. I was like "wtf?". I once read that happened, but I forgot. His appearance completely changes, he's bald, has white skin and has some kind of tattoos on his body. And I think his wings have changed, but I could be wrong. He says he now hates the X-Men and is looking forward to killing them. Or something like that. I really think it's a pity, I always liked him the most to go and talk to. So I hate the idea of him being a Horseman of Apocalypse and I would hate to fight him, wich I probably will have to do.
So when I defeat Apocalypse, will everything be alright with Angel? What about his hair, body, mind(,wings)? Will he still hate the X-Men or rejoin them?

Wow, wouldnt u wanna just find out by playing the game!?
If the story pans out like the comics then obv eventually he will rejoin the xmen and go back to normal. took a while in the comics though, prob speed up the process in the game

Hmm, I wonder, if they do go down the Archangel route, do you think they'll definitely give him the same look he had in the comics, or go a bit different like mentioned in the game above?

Well, we have enough blue mutants already. I would leave it as it is. The description of the game Archangel sounds pretty cool. Bald, white skin and tattoos.

Yeah, you will have to fight him. Once you defeat Archangel, he returns back to normal, but you never see him again until the fight with Apocalypse.

More realistic, but lesser in class.Angel I guess will surprise the regular moviegoers more than with Jean since very few ,if not all of them, knew there's an angel in xmen. :lol Good thing I have come here or I wouldn't know he's one of the original 5.

For me its because I started with him. I like him that way. I especially like how the original 5 mesh together and feel like a family. Seagle's neglected run on Uncanny had some great scenes with Angel and the other 4. I dont like him angsted up and despairing.

mid 90's. Read some scattered comics around UXM 160-220 but I really got into it when I read the absolute first run up through the end of the Phoenix saga (1-137). So those were pretty much my first experiences with X-comics.
