Sounds great Afropik. Something new, yet not a vast departure from Ottman's work. And it does have a Spider-manesque feel to it...which is not a bad thing here.

yes, spiderman is what it reminded more more of, it is elfmans work so yea.... but it still sounds enough like x-men....

WOAH...

It didn't really sound like Danny Elfman to me and I've seen:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Spider-Man 2
Big Fish
Hulk
Men in Black II
Spider-Man
Planet of the Apes
Spy Kids
The Family Man
Scream 2
Good Will Hunting
Men in Black
Mars Attacks!
Extreme Measures
The Frighteners
Mission: Impossible
Dead Presidents
Batman Returns
Edward Scissorhands
Darkman
Batman
Beetle Juice AND
Beverly Hills Cop :p

But, I guess that's only because Elfman is the most recognizable composer to compare it to... ;)

I think this music is absolutely beautiful...it works perfect, its got the right tone...it actually makes me wanna buy the soundtrack  ...and I know that sounds a bit ticklish but I think this Powell guy nailed it...lets hope the rest of the movie is as good as his score...Kubric once said...that music can either make or break a movie...and X3's score is just as important as the rest of the film..effects, style, story...the music will help carry the audience the whole way through.

Powell is probably the best talent behind the camera linked to this film (I'm not trying to diss any of the others, btw). He's really going to add to the experience.

Sorry Maze but you talk a load of ****! I'm a musician and I will tell you now that theme is in no way generic. I mean the temp music in the Danger room scene that was generic, this theme really takes ideas from Kamen and Ottman and I think it's going to be great in the movie along with the rest of the soundtrack. The first set of chords are identical to the Ottman theme and I really think powell has captured the epic feel of the X-men movies so I am definitely going to be buying the X3 soundtrack and look forward 2 hearing all of his wonderful music on May 26th!

X2's theme was more dynamic than that of X1, and this theme seems to set this forth, like how over the three movies the conflict intensifies.

Like X2 was like a fanfare to tie in with the theme of X-men UNITED - proud and like a rallying trumpet in those old fashioned war films.

This one is gritty and dramatic, just like X3 hopefully will be

i own the soundtrack, and it was one of the worst investments i've ever made. it sounds like a poor man's danny elfman. the themes are simplistic and childish, but if that's what floats your boat, then so be it. :)

Hey guys,

Lovin the music John Powell's composed for this film, it's epic and very consistent with the previous X-men film scores. I really think music is gonna be one of the aspects of the film that will make it so brilliant! Track 1 by the way sounds like the Phoenix theme at the end because we hear that in the clip with Jean levitating the cars- this theme strongly reminds me of the Phoenix theme from X2 and the Wolverine/Jean love theme as well and I really like how Powell has kept faithful to Ottman and Kamen's work so rock on Powell and I can't w8 til May 26th!

Backdrifter
05-13-2006, 06:42 PM
I agree with Chi-Boy. X2's score is amature at best. The X3 score is better, at least it sounds like it is right now, but it seems a tad over the top. Kamen understood X-Men better than anyone, as far as music is concerned.

I like what I hear...I like most of what I've heard from the score except all the use of vocals and choir...both movies had 'em but these choir vocals are sounding like christmas carol-ers or Elfman like.

But yeah the theme sounds pretty damn good...I think I was the only one who didn't like the X2 main title opening theme all that much...but other music in the X2 score is brilliant...like when Bobby makes the ice-wall that separates Wolverine and Stryker...good stuff...

I'm really looking forward to the X3 score...I'm thinking of buying it...but not even Amazon is offering it for pre-orders yet...just another mystery like the running time.

it was an interesting piece of music during the cyclops/wolvie scene (the solo one, just released)
but i found it distracting in the other scenes. like it seems almost unecessary.
just seems like a score to have a score, nothing exceptional about it.
the X2 theme was brilliant, very moving.

To tell the truth i'm scared of seeing anything on the 1 page, i've crossed my eyes to find this thread without reading the GIGA-spoilers that are being disscused, but anyway there are 5 sample songs from the soundtrack for the ones that haven't heard anything yet (i really have to see the movie to GET the soundtrack, so far the music sounds a lot like everything John Powell has made with little influences of John Williams, and the bridge scene sounds like a little bit like Danny Elfman, who's one of my favourite composers, so all in all it sounds like a very promising soundtrack)

John Williams can write better music with his farts. Not saying this is bad. But that comment was just plain silly. This music is exciting, but Williams is the best. I actually knew that fact because of his recent nominations (nominated twice this year for Geisha and Munich). He is the second most nominated person in history next to Walt Disney with 59.

thanks for the clip afropik.. kind of a dissapointment, if that is the opening titles music. Why can't composers nowadays keep an exciting peice going, why must they end it so aruptly these days? IF that is the main theme, that's a big downer, in that it really isn't a theme, just your typical background rises that are indistiguishable from one movie to the next. What happened to great, memorable themes like Williams and Poledouris used to do back in the day? Film scoring is a lost art. :down

Yeah, Spidey 2007 is right. That song is definitely 7 minutes long . . . it's a really long theme song.

after listening to the full version to theme...in the first 20seconds there is softer eerie music playing...this seems like a perfect spot for Xavier's narration...I can't believe they wouldn't continue that...seems like a minor request...you write 20 seconds of dialogue for Stewart and get him in a booth and record it...and say "hey, we forgot...we needed you to come record this opening narration like in the other movies"
anyway give it a listen and try to imagine it...it just seems to make sense.

I'm surprised so many are surprised it's good. John Powell is great. I had no fears as far as the score as soon as he was announced.

If you all like his stuff on this movie, you owe it to yourself to check out Powell's work on Bourne Supremacy, Italian Job and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Regardless of what you may think of those films, his scores for them were absolutely fantastic.

Suite From X2 is a suite, its not an actual track fromt he film..it is several cues from the film written together into one long track. The main titles are not long at all. Maybe a minute and a half or so...

The LAst Stand is my favourite
very inspiring...feels very comic bookish to me :)
I wonder if Ororo will have a little theme of her own, she did for both X1 and X2. In X1 u can hear it when she flies out of the elevator and when she causes the fog to cover the X-Jet and the snow storm. In X2 u hear it when she creates the tornadoes...very cool :)

Wow! That music sounds terrific! More emotional and exciting than Begins'! It sounds like a mixture of the theme from the first X-Men, Zorro's theme, and Supes theme. Fairly unique and I'm definetly picking this score up.

Yeah, I know that sample sucks but it's the closest I could find. Maybe, it's not necessarily Zorro, but a slight Horner influence or something. All I know is when I first listened to it i thought The Mask of Zorro...lol.

They're very different, but I think that Begins' score was weak in spots, but I still love it. This sample right here sounds about as emotional as any Begins' piece:
http://www.cinemusic.net/audio/x3/cinemusic_xmen3_02a.mp3

Begins was a slow build, where as this just seems like it is constantly hitting you.

Yeah, I said that was a horrible example, but I know for a fact that there are large builds in the Mask of Zorro score that sounds extremely similar to that part. If I had the score I would upload some for you, but I don't.
