I love Phoenix Rises! But I really like anything with the Phoenix theme in it. Its great.

Did anyone notice in The Last Stand, near the end, it de-exotifies Phoenix's theme to make it the central theme? Very nice tough, it shows how important she is in this movie.

I'm right with ya on the Phoenix theme, its written so it can sound so majestic, but menacing and mysterious at the same time.

To me, it (The Last Stand) also makes it seem like the whole Phoenix thing is still somewhat unresolved. Based on the music alone, I'm debating if she dies in the end or not, and whether theres somewhat a sequel setup in this movie, seeing s theres that after-credits clip which apparently reveals something important.

Let me tell you, I have a large collection of scores, and this is by far the best. During Phoenix Rising and Whirlpool of Love, I almost cried. They are just so powerfull and saddening.

Hearing the main theme during the DNA/Cure sequence in surround sounds was awesome. I'd say that John Powell has definitely pulled it off.

I think im glad that i listened to the soundtrack first. so it'll help me enjoy the film. Score does help to make the film enjoyable. It works for me especially with SW... so. yeah. this is the best soundtrack I've heard since Sith. :) THANK YOU AND I LOVE X-MEN.

I'd combine Anakin's betrayal and battle of the heros with all the Phoenix tracks together... then you'd have... Anakin/Vader's and Jean/Phoenix's story interwined with each other

This score pretty much sucked. I usually never *hear* the score the first time I watch a movie because it's usually good enough not to distract me from the story I've been pulled into - but with this movie, I was actually LOOKING for the score to rise up and fill the emotional void that was not captured or portrayed well on screen. Still, the action did a lot of the damn talking! Good flick. Great flick? Probably not. But still good.

Catman

I'm not saying it was a bad score, but just not as good as Ottman's stuff.

The score was not horrible, but much worse than the first two. The opening music was abysmal. I did like the "Phoenix" theme. The most important flaw in the score was the music at pivotal moments where some of the major mutants (besides Phoenix) are using their powers. The music that went along with the Golden Gate Bridge scene just failed to convey the awe-inspiring nature of what was happening.

I would compare the score of this film to Spider-Man. Not bad but not Memorabel. The X-men:Animated series opening themehad a more memorable score than this movie. I wondered why they didn't use a variation of this time.

Aside from the choir, it wasn't bad. Although, it could have used a few more references to the Kamen score. Ottoman did a wonderful job at mixing his new stuff with Kamen's hero theme.

Except for the "tragic Pheonix" theme which was pretty damn good, the score was horrible. Overwrought and way too cookie-cutter. Sounded like the music for a sentimental kids flick at times. Reminded me of Fantastic Four's score.

The score sucked - it was corny and over-the-top. I actually got pissed off when Angel broke through the glass and flew away, and the score tried to turn it into an epic/triumphant moment. Subtlety would have served that scene well.

The other cue that pissed me off was the fight scene at Jean's house where Chuck died. Again, too over-the-top. I felt like it was almost condescending. Yeah we get it buddy, it's a big scene. We're not six years old.

It seemed to go hand in hand with Ratner's over the top directing style. I wonder if the cheesieness of the score is actually Ratner's fault. I can imagine him listening to some temp tracks and demanding "more more more!"

Alright, I have the X3 OST. And not all songs are bad. I love nr. 14 Dark Phoenix's Tragedy (when Xavier gets killed) and nr. 27 The Last Stand (music from the credits, after some time there's a beat rolling in which I love). I havent listened to them all yet though...

I think overall, this score isnt the best..

i think there are certain songs from all three films that have worked really well, i cant say one is better than the other as they all sound slightly different but good

in X1:
the main theme
mystique's theme
brotherhood theme
final battle at statue of battle of liberty
logan and rogue's theme

in X2
jeans theme when she uses phoenix power
the main theme
some of the mansion attack theme
tornado jet sequence theme

in X3
the main theme
phoenix theme which occured several time the music but in different ways

i can remeber less from x3 cos havnt seen it as much, but when i left the cinema, the phoenix rising theme was in my head for hours, still kinda is so something was right about that score

Ok I've listened to the whole album now. And I came to like it a lot. The Phoenix song is so catchy. Someone said this movie didnt have a superhero theme like X2 did, but when I listen to the song 'The Last Stand' (at 03:25 minutes) it's like the X2 theme is mixed in it just for a second and it deffinitely sounds like a hero theme to me. I think X3 has the best soundtrack of all the X movies.

angel's theme is better just by itself though.
jean's theme is heartbreaking!

i dont think so...there must be their own closets and such. Cyclops seeing Storm pasing in front of him with her bra...then Jean looks at him and gets pissed...while Wolverine intentionally passes really close to Jean in his underpants...and Rogue stares at Logan, while she's taking off shirt and gloves... then Cyclops optic blasts Logan...and Rogue absorbs Cyclops...then Storm creates lightning, then Jean kill everyone. Well all the uniforms are kept in the same room but since this is an institution there would be at least separate bathrooms so the men can admire themselves in the mirror and high-5 each other and go "good mission, dude" while the ladies can do each other's hair and gossip about the men :D

I have to agree on this. X3 has some interesting parts that give in an epic, almost haunting sound to it but overall I found the tone to be wrong an the music very rushed. Especially the alkali lake scene, the music sounded as rush ed as the scene itself. When you look back at other epic soundtracks, especially the work that John Williams does he likes to come up with a basic tune that gets reused in different scenes, arranged differently according to the mood. Like Luke and Leia's theme in ROTJ for example. It can be epic when necessary or gentle and soft if it's a delicate scene. X3 on the other hand doesn't have a tune that's instantly recognizeable or one that you can hum to yourself over and over again. Especially the "Whirlpool of Love" melody. What should be gentle he builds into a loud crescendo, and the tune itself sounds like it's cut 1/2-way through and changes to something else. The music interferes with the setup of the scene IMHO and doesn't flow smoothly, too jagged.

I was expecting perhaps a lame imitation like for t3, I dunno I found x3s music to pass the litmus test. It sounded professional, although x2s score did have the most memorable parts. All 3 films are very well done music wise imo.

I can say that I was most impressed with the soundtrack of x-men 3. I like the movie, it is great. But the music in it is on a supreme level. I am most impressed by the way it was incorporated with the scenes. I cannot say anything about Phoenix's theme, because words cannot describe emotions it holds. I especially liked the X-Men's and Brotherhood's themes, they are strong and fast. But most of all I think Phoenix Rises song is a masterpiece. I hold it on a level with O Fortuna. When looking at that scene and listening to that music no man can't feel anything. It is like a part of some epic scene. I see Wolverine as Sisyphus who must climb a mountain with a burden no man can bear. The burden of Phoenix's external force and his internal struggle to kill the woman he loves.

Has anyone noticed that there has been next to no interviews with the composer of X3, the dvd also doesn't seem to have anything on Powell's score.   Strange.
