After the Soundtrack for the Transformers Cartoon movie came out, and proved to be popular, i wonder what the new live action soundtrack will comprise of.....Rock music and transformers with a slight touch of techo do fit hand in hand with action sequences for this style of movie. But its most likely they will go with a traditional score......

My choice would be a full on Rock n roll style soundtrack.

whats your thoughts?

My 10th grade english teacher told me Vince DiCola is an ice head, but I did love his synth score to the original TF movie, so ITS ALL GOOD. They arent going to use him though, not if they arent using the original voice actors. I would like to see a good rock soundtrack, but its too risky that it would end up as some disgusting Nickelback/Seether/Evanessence affair. So its best to just get some highclass individual to score the movie, I would suggest... HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS!!

Just bust out some electronica and leave it at that. If they must have popular music, have a couple scenes with Bumblebee and Spike listening to some hip hop or rock, but leave it at that.

I gotta give DiCola credit on how he scored Transformers. Most people score when the movie is finished. He scored using only the storyboards and timing and it came out perfect the first time. I'd like to find more of his work, but I guess he didn't do to much other thsan Rocky IV and Transformers.

Back in the day when my friends and I used to talk Transformers movies (early 90s) I always thought that Metallica would do a great soundtrack. Now, of course, they are terrible has beens, but if a band could be found with the same heavy metal feel (ala Black Album or And Justice For All) I think it could work nicely.

yes please. Even when Morg posted The Transforming Citroen Car it had a soundtrack provided by Les Rhythmes Digitales. most movies are usually best suited to EDM or Electronica. When films go Rock or Pop-Hop it lends an MTV feel to it. "Let the bodies hit the floor" I mean come on...again? no.

Man, I love the original soundtrack from the 1986 movie. I'm a big fan of 80s rock anyway, so I love those tunes...they add to the whole kitschy appeal of that flick. But there's no way that a modern rock soundtrack would be the same. UltimateJustin is right...I can just picture a rock soundtrack having the same Nickelback/Seether/Evanescence **** as so many modern movies do. If that's the case, better just leave it as a score.

Industrial would be right too. Not a vox though, more on Dubs.
I feel less and less about a score. It is not a history film or Gladiator, it is Transformers. It is Techno. Deal. I see the Autobots using Roland gear and Logic programs than picking up a drum stick or flicking at a guitar.

Let me start off with this...

KEEP VINCE DICOLA AS FAR AWAY FORM THIS MOVIE AS POSSIBLE.

Why?

I love his music but his music was best suited for the animated incarnation, not live action. If I had to choose I'd say Danny Elfman on score, and maybe soem tracks by Static X, In Flames, and Megadeath. Hard beats with loud lyrics scream war. And that's what transformers is all about. War and Destruction. Maybe a little Powerman 5000 to round it out.

Go ahead and debate.

His 1986 score, which a lot of people STILL want incorporated into the new film, is completely unecessary and would turn most scenes into camp fodder.

He has. He's been doing a lot of quirky industrial techno stuff lately with guys like Buckethead and Primus dudes as well as lot of cool orchestral stuff. There are some samples on his site:
http://www.tdrsmusic.com/musicpreviews.html

IMO, he could do a great half-orchestral/half-techno soundtrack that would fit the movie. The guy's a massive talent, he has worked with and learned from amazing musicians over the years. Though, he hasn't done any movie score stuff since the 80's, so I kinda have a hard time seeing him going against guys like Elfman, Williams, Zimmer, Silvestri etc. I'm sure his take on the score would have been far more interesting than the stuff these guys have been regurgitating over the years, but tell that to the producers.

The theme from the Transformers: The Movie? Why would it take away a lot of the credibility if it's used?

In my opinion it's a great song, very heavy, and at least could really provide the much needed push to really hype up the audience. I get so pumped up when I hear the drum beat and then the guitars during the intro, then with Lion pounding out the riffs and singing the song? Damn.

Well, it is a very 80's sounding song that would put the viewer in a retro mood. I'd rather this movie be a cutting edge/futuristic sci-fi movie with some great drama thrown in than an 80's throw back made just for nostalgia.

I still don't see why some of you against even a slightest nod to the old theme song in the movie. You can easily make an arrangement for a full blown choir and orchestra that doesn't sound dated or retro. The chorus "Transformers - more than meets the eye" has a pretty haunting melody and could sound quite convincing if it were performed with a choir something along the lines of Carl Orff's Oh Fortuna.

This is Michael Bay... He's the master of using cheap scores to manipulate the audience.

There will be a "hero" rock ballad, and maybe a love theme, but other than that, the movie will be filled with strings, drums, horns and flutes all playing notes designed to tell the audience when to feel happy, sad, angry, excited, or scared.

This is what Michael Bay does. Watch any of his movies and you'll see. He can't evoke the emotions in dialogue or in the performances, so he substitutes good directing with a manipulative score that 'explains' to the audience what kind of scene they're watching.

Firstly the transformers theme is laughable outside of a saturday morning cartoon setting. I`d say if they decide to do a redo they should simply use many of the chords and the structure of the song in part of the soundtrack. So that the main theme is reminscent of the old cartoon song but doesn`t suffer from sounding stupid with attached laughable lyrics.

Secomndly i say they shoulkd have a score in the movie with maybe the occassional rock song just to sell the soundtrack. I want a timeless epic feel to the film and nickelback or seether are seriously gonna date faster than a open yogurt in the sahara.lol. I want the war of the world grand scale for the film but of course more up beat.

They should do some kind of John William type of score for the Transformers Theme, They could just take a few of the notes from the theme that we all would recognize as part of the old theme and implement them to the score. For example, The begining of the original theme you get the first 3 familiar notes followed by the last 5 last notes, The 1st 3 notes would be where you normally hear in the word Transformers. And then the last 5 notes is where you hear the phrase, More Then Meets The Eye, Those musical keys are what you hear when you hear those words.

I'd like a score, but I think adding Lion's Transformers movie theme somewhere in the movie during an action sequence would be awesome!

A cool nod to the die-hards.

All I have to say is...

Check it out.

I don't think they'll use the original song -- while I still love it and it takes me back to 1986, I think Bay and Co. will think its too 80s sounding (which it is).

I think they should add a melody version of it when we first see Prime in the film, since its pretty much (unofficially) his theme song.
