Me, I'm picky and choosey about what hip-hop and/or rap artists I will listen to. Basically, I hate music that relies on "nice beats to shake ya ass to" to sell. However, I do enjoy MCs who tell stories in their songs or at least have interesting/thought provoking things to talk about (i.e. Nas, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, etc.) and if they have a few club hits on the album, so be it.

If you are a fan of hip-hop and/or rap that has something to talk about and are looking to hear something new, check out my friend JayBlaze, an upcoming MC hailing from Oakland, CA @ http://www.myspace.com/jayblaze2005 and let me know what you think.

Nope. Actually I can't stand all this pop punk ***** that is flooding the airwaves lately. Yes, I love Green Day, and yes, they are "popular", but they are not to be categorized with that other stuff.

I listen to a wide variety of music. Everything from heavy metal to classical, and yes, that does include some hip-hop. :)

By UGLIEST humans, are you referring to the rappers themselves?

It seems to me that as of lately a lot of the flashy bling-bling rappers have been featuring ugly overweight girls in their videos... Could it be they like their big a$$es? Hmmm.

Sentinel X

I dont know about the videos you watch but the ones I see deals with very hot girls that love some guy that they normally wouldnt like but like him for his money.Just stating the obvious....and yes I was refering to the rappers. Also the ugly overweight girls are usually made fun of in the videos or kicked out of the rapper's party or something .I like some rap songs but I prefer rock much more...but my opinion changes every now and then, maybe someday Ill be a hip hop fan.

Ok, I do see rap videos with "hot chicks" dancing in them, but more and more I'm seeing big booty (big everything) women shaking their stuff in videos... Not my thing, but some dudes like that I guess.

And yeah, I'm much more of a rock fan myself, but when a rapper is good, I'll admit it. JayBlaze...I've seen him putting his everything into making music so I can appreciate that...and he has great potential.

I totally agree. You know what I'm really sick of? These goddamn "dirty south" "crunk" so-called rappers. They have no talent whatsoever, and yet their music is all you ever hear on the airwaves. And they have nothing interesting to say at all. Not just that, but their music just sounds annoying. Mike Jones is a perfect example. And Trillville, and Lil Jon, and Lil Scrappy, and Petey Pablo. Can't stand any of them. I think the industry's dying, and it's their fault.

1. Ok, than the only type of music you must like is American Idle or country music, cuz that's the only kind of music where the artist is truly singing. Music isn't all about singing, dumbass.

1. Every heard of poetry? Spoken word poetry? Hip-Hop formed out of that.

2. I have no idea what you're talking about, but I guess it has some truth to it.

* If you can't comprehend what I'm reading, i apologize, I just had to get some things off my chest**

I'm a hip hop fan, & the thing I can't stand the most is when I hear dumb comments how hip hop isn't music! Hip Hop raps about killin cops, bi%ches & h*'s! The school I attend is mostly white & I'm talking 96% white, 4% black, so you know I have to hear that B.S a lot!

I kind of like rock, but I don't go bashing other type of music genres that I don't listen to because that personally pisses me off! It seems like everyone ignores Kanye West's" Jesus Walks", Naz's "I Know I Can", or even Nick Carter's " Can I Live"! It seems like people who criticize hip hop never look at the positives but are obsessed w/t the negatives! The thing that pisses me off the most is when Bill O'Reily convinced Pepsi to release Ludacris from their contract! But when Pepsi hired The Ozburnes to advertize their product, he didn't say anything & all of a sudden got a case "HUSH MOUTH"! I'm not calling O'Reily a rascist, just an ignorant b@statd!!

Too many Hip Hop Bashers focus way too much on the cursing , which really dosen't bother( only wack artist like B.G who rhymes are lame). I didn't hear anybody bi$ch about Kid Rock or Fred Durst who curse a lot & having half nakedf hotties in some of their videos! Instead of always focusing on the negative in hip hop, please find it in your heart to at least once in a while
focus on the positives!

I agree with you for the most part, but let's not put "Nick Carter" and Hip-Hop in the same paragraph please.

Also, people b(*&(ed about Fred Durst and Kid Rock more than you know for cursing and having half naked girls in their videos, moreso than most rappers. That's probably the main reason Fred has received so much criticism over the past seven years.

I agree with you that there are positives in hip-hop and rap (Kanye and Nas being two of the best examples), but it's the ever-popular Lil' Jon, Triple Six Mafia, and other "crunk" rappers/producers that are making the genre look bad; the same way these new pop punk bands you see on MTV are making rock music look bad.

Rap music these days is wack! The hiphop community isn't level at all. The commercial state of the hiphop culture has transended all expectations to the point, its saturated every known media market. As it stands the industry (rap music) isn't known or highlighted for what it should and used to be but is now recognisable for its decadence. The latest wave to have hit the commercial air waves is the crunk **** and that got played out way too quickly. The hiphop community as I said, has its finger in way too many pies, tapping all forms of media and thats good because it keeps hihop at the top but there are far too many times where the focus of hiphop itself is shadowed by a load of bull**** that has become acceptable, thus influencing most of America and the free world.

Just my piece.

But that's nothing new.... what rapper who has put out a double CD that's solid top to bottom? Life After Death.... there were a handful of songs that shouldn't have been on the album.. making it a single CD. Same thing with Wu Tang Forever.... that could easily have been a single CD and been wayy better. Jay's Blueprint 2... horrible.

And for Cris who thinks I hate Nasir..... on my b'day I ordered Verbal Intercourse off of Rae's Cuban Links album... cause I think Nas' verse is probably the single best rap verse I've ever heard. And I have no problems saying it. I've been saying it since 95 when I first bought the damn thing.

Although I haven't bought the last Nas CD, I've heard songs off of the album & I was impressed. I guess that album is for people who "like hip-hop". Although Nas isn't the MOST intellectual rapper that's out now, he does give you something to think about; That's all I ask of a CD.

I like a lot of dance music although I wouldn't say I am a huge afficionado of Hip-Hop. My dance tastes lean more toward the techno end. I am a pretty huge fan of Black-Eyed Peas, but they tend to gravitate toward more mainstream, and incorporate what I would say is a bit more funk which to me is different than Hip-Hop.

Yeah but I say the same thing to everyone, if the album is garbage like everyone says, then apart from Common's album what else was hot that came out since last november? Cam? Game? Snoop? (oh wait Luda, MF DOOM and 9th Wonder dropped some heat

It's definetly the most divided in terms of what he's put out. It aint universally panned like Nastradamus and it aint loved like Illmatic and Stillmatic.
Gimme Theif's Theme, Street's Disciple,Nazerth Savage, Sekou's Story, Just a Moment over everything Cam and Game's albums (except the Kanye Tracks cause Down and Out and Dreams was nice)

But like it's Rae and Ghost said "**** it, it's the god yo" as long as son's putting out music it's a beautiful thing, allow these other MC's bailing out when the rap game's depleted (Em, Andre, Q-Tip, Hov)

People like common, talib kweli, and mos def are some of the best because their music is entrenched in reality, but they never go platinum because their music is "Shake your A** music." It's actually intellectually sound. So I say, "F**k hip-hop. Other stuff as well that I might have just caught a few sounds from on the radio - A few Busta Rhymes tracks, Ludacris, Nas, Missy Elliot, P-Diddy (Older Stuff), etc.

It's not music, it's just people talking fast. Thugs talking fast about thug things. All about the image, the flash, the bling. "Look at me. I'm a stupid, worthless, thug muthaforker but I got me a lambrghini, a ho on each arm and 500 carats of bling on my watch." Responsible for the "thugization" of the country.

These hoes that's poppin on me now didn't even know my name
They said my flow was lame, they said I had no game
I told 'em all I was fin' to blow they thought I was insane
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my dick
Cause they see me on the rise and oh now my paper thick
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my dick

[Chorus - 2X]

Eminem:

"Mosh"

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands
One nation under God
Indivisible...
It feels so good to be back..

I scrutinize every word, memorize every line
I spit it once, refuel and re-energize and rewind
I give sight to the blind, my insight through the mind
I exercise my right to express when I feel it's time
It's just all in your mind, what you interpret it as
I say to fight, you take it as I'mma whip someone's ass
If you don't understand, don't even bother to ask
A father who has grown up with a fatherless past
Who has blown up now to rap phenomenon that has
Or at least shows no difficulty multi-task
And in juggling both perhaps mastered his craft
Slash entrepreneur who has helped launch a few more rap acts
Who's had a few obstacles thrown his way through the last half
Of his career typical manure moving past that
Mr. kisses ass crack, he's a class act
Rubber band man, yea he just snaps back

[Chorus:]
Come along follow me as I lead through the darkness
As I provide just enough spark that we need to proceed
Carry on, give me hope, give me strength
Come with me and I won't steer you wrong
Put your faith and your trust as I guide us through the fog
To the light at the end of the tunnel
We gonna fight, we gonna charge, we gonna stomp, we gonna march
Through the swamp, we gonna mosh through the marsh
Take us right through the doors (c'mon)

All the people up top on the side and the middle
Come together lets all bomb and swamp just a little
Just let it gradually build from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people some white and some black
Don't matter what color, all that matters we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause don't matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain't gonna stop us they can't, we stronger now more than ever
They tell us no we say yea, they tell us stop we say go
Rebel with a rebel yell, raise hell we gonna let em know
Stomp, push, shove, mush, **** Bush, until they bring our troops home (c'mon)

[Chorus]

Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us
Mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone's tryina tell us something,
Maybe this is god just sayin' we're responsible
For this monster, this coward,
That we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin'
How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists
Now this is our final hour
Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six...
Teen million people, Are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech
Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight.

[Chorus]

And as we proceed,
To Mosh through this desert storm,
In these closing statements, if they should argue
Let us beg to differ
As we set aside our differences
And assemble our own army
To disarm this Weapon of Mass Destruction
That we call our President, for the present
And Mosh for the future of our next generation
To speak and be heard
Mr. President, Mr. Senator
Do you guy's hear us...hear us...[laughing] (Hailie)

Thank you. I hate how all these people say is sounds the same, yet if I were to say their music sounds the same, they'd jump down my throat. There's a good chance 90% of this board is rock and rock fans, and if I said it was "fake depressional wanna be rich kid music blah blah blah," they'd flame the hell outta me. I like all types of music, from video game, Hip-Hop, Jazz, classical, rock, etc. and I like to keep an open mind. Country is my least favorite music genre, but I don't go around saying flat-out country music sucks. I just say I'm not into that type of music.

Hit Mike Jones up on the low cause Mike Jones about to blow
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea
Befo' the ice was in my grill, befo' I got my major deal
These hoes wouldn't give a damn if I was here, shea - because

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
I remember back den, most of them hoes couldn't stand me
But now them same hoes beggin me to pull down they panties
A couple of 'em said I was cute but I was just too chubby
Same size a year later the same hoes wanna **** me
Because they see me paid, pimpin pens, workin my jelly
And I ain't trippin cause my pockets stick out mo' than my belly
They know I'm paid, livin laid in the shade
2 slabs in the Escalade with fo' or five estates
Then know that I got it made, I'm a mother****in baller
She would want a ***** now but I ain't got no time to call her
I'ma stall her like she stalled me, now she tryin to call me
***** I'ma dog yo' whole ass like you dogged me
I'm Mike Jones, don't act like you don't know the name
Ain't nuttin changed but my change, I'ma stay the same
I'm Mike Jones, don't act like you don't know the name
Ain't nuttin changed but my change, I'ma stay the same

[Chorus]

[Mike Jones]
Befo' my paper came, befo' I got my fame
These hoes that's poppin on me now didn't even know my name
They said my flow was lame, they said I had no game
I told 'em all I was fin' to blow they thought I was insane
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my dick
Cause they see me on the rise and oh now my paper thick
But then my name started blowin up quick, now they jumpin on my dick
Because they see me on the rise and oh now my paper thick

I listen to Nas, Tupac, Biggy, and Public Enemy. I listen to rock mostly because Nowadays all they rap about is being rich and having cars while the artists I mentioned talk about issues in the world and the streets in the early 90's. I don't listen to Hip-hop much but I do appreachate (sp) the people that helped create the genre.

Funny thing is, i'd never go into a, say, country music thread and bash the hell out of it. Hip-hop seems to be the one genre of music where people feel entitled or even obligated to hate on it. Douche bags.

Yeah, I'm Chinese and what?
Yeah, you know who this is, Jin
Let me tell you this
The days of the pork fried rice and the chicken wings
coming to your house five years is over

[Chorus]
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
When the pumps come out, ya'll gon' speak Chinese

Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
Ya'll gonna wanna be Chinese
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
When the pumps go off, ya'll gon' speak Chinese

[Jin]
Go **** with your head man
I know a bunch of crypts that love Redman
Blood book in New York man things done change
Stop, the chinks be all over the game
This ain't Bruce Lee, I watch too much TV
This is a game of death when I aim for your chest
Too much sex got me seeing slow motion
Eyes barely open with a roach roasting'
And your girl, she loves the gin ocean
Rub it on her body like body shop lotion
What's the commotion, you never seen me?
The original chinky eye emcee
You don't want to step to the army
And Double-R rank refugee
And the battle of the gun is gonna make you speak
another language
And amigo I ain't talking about Spanish

[Chorus]

[Jin]
This one goes out to those that order four chicken wings
And pork fried rice and throw dice
In the hood, you think this is all good?
Till the cowboys roam through like Clint Eastwood
I wish you would come to Chinatown
Get lost in town, end up in the lost in found
Eyewitnesses, you must be crazy
We don't speak English, we speak Chinese
And the only po-po we know is the pigs on the hood out in the window
Every time they harass me, I wanna explode
We should ride the train for free, we built the railroads
I ain't ya 50 Cent, I ain't ya Enimem
I ain't ya Jigga Man, I'm a chinaman
Ginseng in the palm of my hand
She looks suprirsed in the palm of my hands
You know what's next? Safe sex
I'll be damned if I sleep in the flesh with the insect

[Hook]

(Woman singing)
(Jin speaking Chinese: This one sounds good. Let's give her a call on the phone.)
Mr. Jin, you are the sexist man
Mr. Jin, I love the way you do your things (Jin speaking Chinese: Really?)
Mr. Jin, you are the sexist man
Mr. Jin, I love the way you do your things

[Jin]
The moral of the story is
Don't judge a book by its cover
I know you think he's fam, but he's really undercover
I saw his name on the affidavit
It was written in Chinese and this is what he said:
(Jin Speaking Chinese: The chinese restaurant is closing soon)
Bring about some local hooligans and thugs so
Catch them at midnight when they close the shop up
Reading the Ten Commandments, cooking up heckka
Movie small posters are all over the walls
If they think you'd save me the bullet, it's so over ya'll
Me, I'm just Jin just doing my thang
Just doing my thang, just doing my thang
Why is there beef everywhere I go?
I'm drunk skewing, can't we all get along
My ladies with the thongs, my thugs with the firearms

Ya'll gonna learn Chinese (Wyclef: all the ghetto)
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese (Wyclef: all the suburb)
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
When the pumps come out, ya'll gon' speak Chinese.
(Wyclef: Refugees)

Ya'll gonna learn Chinese (Jin speaking Chinese: di lo)
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese (Jin speaking Chinese: Hurry, get out of here)
Ya'll gonna learn Chinese
When the pumps come out, ya'll gon' speak Chinese

(Woman singing)

[Hook]

[Wyclef]
The game will never be the same (Jin speaking Chinese:
I already played the game)
Double-R refugees (Jin speaking Chinese: Let's go home)
First Chinese rapper
First page rapper
Refugees
(Jin speaking Chinese: Chinatown)
(Jin speaking Chinese: I already played the game)

Trust me, Twitch, I've been listening to punk a LOT longer than you have.

And Green Day is a skate punk band. Skate punk = Pop Punk. It's a different genre entirely then say, Black Flag or X. I happen to love it because I'm a sucker for 3-1/2 minute tunes crammed with hooks. I like old style LA Punk & old style NY & Brit punk (the best of which are very popppy as well). I like metal (hair, death, heavy). I like southern rock. I like prog rock. I like Brit pop. I'm a huge Beatle fan. I'm a huge Cure fan. I'm a huge Foo Fighter fan. I'm a huge Green day fan. I like some country music. I like some jazz (mostly progressive). I love Sinatra. I like some r&b. I like classical from time to time.

I hate rap.
