He's one of the characters that really impressed me in X2 and I thought he was deserving of his own thread. So here discuss everything Pyro or Aaron Stanford regarding X3.
First off, here's a nifty little profile of Pyro from the comics.
Pyro (http://www.marveldatabase.com/wiki/index.php/Pyro)
And a picture of our Pyro from X2, and for X3. Aaron Stanford.

Pyro was a definate upside to X2. Bryan took a rather blah character, IMO and made him three dementional. I loved his character in X2 and how he progressed throughout the film. Can't wait to see what happens in X3.

Ahh...Another "official" discussion thread...
Let's see if this one stays active for more than two days... :p :D
I wonder what kind of "battle" outfit they'll have him in, if any...I say he'll pretty much be the same as he does in that pictuure, but maybe he'll slightly lighter hair, have some glasses and maybe some gloves...

And I agree no flamethrowers, and I think he should just remain in street clothes, no ''battle" outfit.

Yeah, especially if it was anything like his costume from the comics. Can you say gauty? Call the fashion police on him. Oh wait, they can't arrest him cause he's dead. Shoot!

08-31-2005, 09:23 PM
Well, Toad hopped around in a little court jester outfit in the comics. We didn't see that on screen, now did we?
I could go either way on flame throwers. On the one hand, he did pretty well for himself in X2 with just a lighter, blowing up cop cars and $#!+. But if they go all out in X3, letting Bobby ice up and make Ice ramps and all that stuff, John's gonna need something a little more state of the art to even the odds. I dunno about y'all, but I'd like to see flaming tornadoes or fire monsters.

It'd be cool if he threw flames at Storm, and she called up a small cyclone to blow them away from herself.

I really liked how he was showcased and developed in X2 and can see him causing some major damage in X3. It would be sweet if he(if there are sentinals) burn one down.

I'd like to see him kill Bobby and realize, "OMG! What've I done?" what an ass Magneto's turned him into and ultimately betray the brotherhood to the X-Men before dying himself, killed by Mystique or someone.
Never happen, but still...
spidey207
08-31-2005, 10:17 PM
Why would he be the one to betray Magneto. If Gambit is invloved, he would. If not, why does anyone have to betray him. AND why kill Iceman? If there is a Gen-X type of spinn-off, he would probobly be the leader. It would be pretty dumb to kill off Iceman just for the sake of turning Pyro back to good.
JustABill
08-31-2005, 10:17 PM
He's more likely to die than Bobby.
Quing
08-31-2005, 10:59 PM
I don't see him killing Bobby. Even if he is one of the bad guys, this incarnatio of Pyro strikes me as someone who wouldn't kill what used to be his best friend. He gets carried away easily, but he's not a complete psychopath, like (for example) Evolution Pyro. And he always seemed to care what his peers thought of him, up until that last moment. Maybe not so much what the older characters thought (like Wolverine), but he definitely was doing a fair amount of showing off in front of Bobby and Rogue.
As for his costume, I bet they'll just keep him in something close to his street clothes. And he'll probably still have his shark lighter.

Less is more.
Surely you don't want him to look the same as before. That wouldn't help selling his transition...You don't want to see what kind of influence Magneto may have had on how he's looked at himself? How it might have affected the way he chooses to dress when in dangerous situations like Magneto does? I'm thinking along those lines...I would imagine him wearing gloves at least..

That's an excellent point. I'm going to change what I said before and say that he'll probably have some kind of protective uniform at least. Probably gloves and some sort of uniform boots or something. The Brotherhood's outfits aren't as "team" oriented as the X-Men, but they all work for the individual characters. I guess the real question is going to be in whether or not they give him the flame-throwers.

I don't see them having the same big gas tanks as he had in the comics...
I had an idea where he had small containers slid on the his arms near the triceps and they were connected to his wrists and they came down to around his hand and that's where his fire came from...I see that as being less of a hassle as wearing some kind of metal backpack...It could be a bit more stylish than him flicking on some zippo lighters, but, I dunno...

Hmmm..The backpack thing looks good for the character mostly in the comics/cartoons or whatnot...
I can assume that it was mostly so that Pyro always had more than enough "ready" fire whenever he needed it so that when he wanted some whenever, it was there in good supply and would be easier for manipulating(which I would think is harder to do than to simulatenously increase the fire's intensity)...It's not like he would continue on burning the fire from an initial spark..That's why I think he had the tanks...
But in a more practical and realistic sense (for the movies anyway), that much (fire) wouldn't necessarily be needed in a larger tank, but nonetheless, there could be some kind of way where he gets his fire which doesn't take but a few seconds and is still intimidating and threatening (or at least more intimidating than pulling out a lighter)...

See, I think that the lighter works well because it isn't intimidating. He pulls it out, flicks it on, and the other person goes "Oh, wow. What're you going to do, chase me around and try to catch my clothes on fire?" Then suddenly, the flame gets huge and engulfs the other person. I think that that's more powerful than something that obviously suggests that he's able to manipulate large amounts of flame.

Hmmm..They'd have to be tricky with that...The flicking thing, which I thought of once or twice (before the F4 trailers.. :p ) could be avoided now as to distinguish moreso between the two MARVEL movie fire wielders. It COULD work, but I don't think they should do it now that Torch has been seen doing it in F4. I'd stick with having him "pressing" for a light...
If they really want to be imaginative, maybe they could have his entire glove of a hard sandy texture so that in the event he's ran out of lighter fluid, he could swipe his hands together for a spark, creating a fireball out of his hands if you will..

I agree. It would have been neat, but now that it's been done by F4, it wouldn't work as well. I do like the idea of having some kind of gauntlet, but it would have to be something that makes sense in battle. He should still be able to bend his wrists.
Also, the flame animals thing would be neat. Actually, I think it might be "cute" if at the beginning of the movie, they showed a fiery phoenix then zoomed out and it was really just him, working with his powers.

Heh, I see your point about the whole FF thing. I guess anther thing they could do aside from your idea is to make the guantlets similar to Spider-Man's web shooters in the books with a mechanism generating a spark with little cartridges of hidden lighter fluid.
To activate it I'd make him press hard against a button in his palm by making a fist. His comic version I think had a similar way of activating the flamethrower but he definitely needs a source of flammable liquid to draw upon without looking like a dork.
TNC9852002
09-01-2005, 04:33 AM
Yep..Basically that's what I was talking about earlier about my old drawing of Pyro having gauntlets and they would be connected on his wrists and attached to the small tanks on his arms,...I initially had it so that the flame came out through the underside of his hand between the palm and the wrist, but maybe it'd look too "Spider-Many"...Hmmmm

Hmmm..maybe "tanks" are the wrong word to describe the naphtha containers that I'm imagining...The dimensions of the containers themselves would probably only be 4"(l) x 3"(w) x 1"(h)...Similar to the size of four of Pyro's zippo lighters stacked in up vertically 2 x 2...

That might be what I would call a typical situation...Not exactly a "combat" situation where he would want to carry and wield alot more fire around in any case...
Like I said, I've assumed that he had those big packs so that he had more than enough "ready" fire whenever he needed it, was there in good supply, and would be easier for manipulating( and Pyro didn't seem to master manipulating the fire into complex shapes yet in X2, which I would think is harder to do than to simulatenously increase the fire's intensity)...It's not like he would continue on burning the fire from an initial spark from a lighter...With a bigger boost of intial flame, he might be able to work faster..

I would like to see the backpack in at least one scene if anything as an homage. Maybe it could be incorporated as armor into his uniform. Instead of shooting flames from his gloves, the hose/tubes could lead to sPray nozzles which are holstered at his hips. They can be explained off as freeze-proof, unlike his lighters. Otherwise, Bobby could just freeze the lighter fluid and end the fight before it starts. Plus, it'd make for a good quick draw scene.
On top of this, he needs his lighter from X2 as well as a few other tricks up his sleeve. I like the flint tipped gloves idea. A snap of the fingers and he's got a sPark to work with in a pinch. I've also heard somewhere that if you fill up a tennis ball with matchheads, it'll ignite on impact. He could have some throwable device like that too just in case.

I personally don't like the propane tanks suggestion. His power usage in X2 was impressive because it all came from the flame of a lighter. If if already had great big jets of glames via a propane tank his power will look less impressive. I've notice in the cartoons, it often looks like he's not using his powers at all, and instead just firing a flame thrower.
Didn't someone mention someone was designing a lighter for X3 in a thrad a while back?
TNC9852002
09-03-2005, 06:09 AM
Well,...maybe there's something there...I've never thought of the naphtha containers in my little conception would produce a flame so large that it would take away from the impact. Definitely not as large as they've been in the cartoons..In my little sketch, the flame produced is probably about a flame of this much intensity:
http://karen.devfarm.com/img/Sept%202003/fire%20up%20the%20grill.JPG

Jumping in here...about the tanks...and exploding Pyro bits in the air...according to myth, pyromaniacs don't burn, so his tanks exploding wouldn't cause him to catch on fire unless he somehow lost control and burned himself on purpose...

POSSIBLE Aaron Stanford qoutes next week?! On his official site it says that he's started working on X3 and it also mentions that his new movie Runaway is screening at the Toronto Film Festival on September 15 and 17. Since it's an 'indy' i'm almost certain the investors and/or studio are going to want their star to appear and talk about the film. This would be a great oppurtunity for the press to ask about X3 don't you think? Finally hear some more details on his role.

Well apparently..
Spoilers
She has a fight scene with Avalanche at the mansion
And i hope Pyro does not just use a lighter i mean how uncool would that be????He needs something but it has to be subtle in a way
I liked TNC's concepts alot
And who ever wants him to have an Aussie accent....well to late you know how moronic it would be if all of a sudden he hade a aussie accent...
I mean what would his exucse be " I went to Australia for a couple months were i used my powers on kangaroos there i picked up the accent"????????

There was a profile on Pyro in the official X2 website, and it mentioned that he comes from an Australian background.
As far as I'm concerned, unless if this nationality is of relevance to the film (and it probably isn't), he shouldn't speak with an accent anyhow to show that he is an Aussie.
I sure as hell don't, and I was born here.

Sorry, but this totally defeats the entire purpose of the X-Men. They are suppose to be and were the very first group of superheroes from all corners of the world.
It's one of the things that appeals me to the X-Men so much. You have cool characters of all gender, all nations, all skin tones, all sexualitys, battling for their individualistic causes.
Taking that away and having everyone speaking in American accents, just makes them any old rag tag group of superheroes.
The only thing with accents is, Storm should have never lost hers. Colossus and Pyro never had their's from the start, so let's not give them their individual accents now.

Do we LIKE the new yellow, lanky, rats-tail hair, people?!
Sure, looks "more like" comic Pyro...but a bit random
I think the blonde hair washes him out, doesn't suit his complexion...he looks much nicer with his natural hair

Ok, I'm just gonna be a pathetic whiny ass now...but seriously, am I invisible? Virtually EVERY post I make is ignored as people continue to "talk over" anything I mention, or ask about...this topic, for example was on like, page 4 until I asked about the hair and you just quoted a post nearly a week old...
Even when I bought the supposed trailer info to the board first the topic was duplicated and convo went there instead... I DON'T BELONG!! :(
OK, I'm done. I'm in a crabby mood, going to bed.
*scuttles off*
sorry guy...if it's any consolation, i feel the same way sometimes. :(
i was actually gonna quote your post and respond to it but decided against it since it's about hair again and we all know talking about hair here will spread it like the plague on some other threads...so i'll bite the bullet and say...
Do we LIKE the new yellow, lanky, rats-tail hair, people?!

...if that is his hair in the movie and i hope they explain it. But considering that both Jean and Storm sported new 'dos in X2 and it looks like Storm is doing the same thing for X-men 3, i highly doubt they'd explain it. i guess i like it tho...atleast he has something similar to his comic counterpart.

I think a mention of him being from an Australian background would be tight. He doesn't need to have an accent...he could just mention he was born in Australia and moved to the US at a young age, which would explain him sounding like a typical American.

"Of course, if Singer cast an object of his desire in a role, it wouldnt be the first time. According to Alex Burton, the unknown who played Pyro in Singers first X-Men blockbuster, he was given the part after a hot-tub session with the director at a Hollywood party. Bryan created that role especially for me, says Burton, who went on to act in exactly zero films post-X-Men."

What if Rogue and Pyro hook up on this movie? Will the movie suck? :ghost: :O :bomb:
Yeah it would, cause we don't want her hooked up with another character she has never had anything with in the comics.I think aaron is hot-i'd do him.

I just noticed, in Pyro's pics in the gallery, take a look at his hand. He has a thin band around the palm, and, then, what looks like, the tiny head of a nozzle. Could this be a contraption to "make fire"?

Wait in the movie didn't pyro had a crush on rogue till iceman became rogue's bf. But wouldn't be in teresting though if rogue joins the brotherhood of mutants and hook up with pyro.:)

Yea and there is also at the end when jean told every1 that pyro was with magneto, rogue had an expression on her face. I don't know if it was guilt or worry.:) lol

If it was a look of worry, it was just Rogue being herself. She's a southern sweetheart and probably thought of Pyro as a friend and to see him leave with the ''bad guy", probably upset her/made her worry about him.

The websites says that there is a love triangle going on between pyro/rogue/bobby.
It might be but there's a new director he might change a few things.

It was a mien of resignation.
The context and significance of this is even greater when one takes into deliberation the deleted scene in the campfire scene not long after the mansion attack sequence.
No offence, but you can't just say she was 'properly' worried about him etc...
Remember, early on, she had absorbed his power and therefore his traits, desires, even some countenance of his personality. So, she, out of everyone, would have understood as to why he left them alone in the jet: because of envy (for Iceman), authority pressure ("you always do as you're told?" to which Rogue, coincidentally, immediately glances behind at the cockpit controls), and finally, pleasure for control he feels he needs to have in order to elevate himself above the humans whom he sees as 'interference' (which takes on a new meaning when he experiences the onslaught of the human army of his abode he had come to live in), perhaps.
What people possibly missed in X2 - and it seems people have because it was not one of the 'forefronts' of the story - was the very subtle, but key relationship between Rogue and Pyro.
To be fair however, just for the record, for all the emphasis of a friendship between fire and ice, it seems surprisingly and remarkably limited in interaction. An opportunity languished, in my opinion; it could have been received as better strength in regards to said 'love triangle'.
Anyway, the Rogue and Pyro relationship is one of facial expressions, as odd as it sounds. Because they're so quick and in the background, it is perhaps understandably enough difficult to gauge the extent of their relationship. But it is based on body language, and that alone captures me enough.
I was thinking of listing the examples here, and how these either advance or protract the development (and fall) of a relationship centered around an exchange of facial communication, but maybe I might give someone on here a go - to revisit one's mental faculties down the memory lane of X2. :)
The deleted scene counts as well.
I'll say this though: it is plausible that since Rogue originally was an antagonist in the comics, and if we were to realise her presence in the Brotherhood meetings somehow and for whatever reason, it will be interesting if her understanding of Pyro; why he joined, as well as the ideology of evil (perhaps, despite lingering enmity, Magneto expresses some very good points on mankind: that is it helping those like Rogue or does it have a far more ulterior agenda to cease and desist the mutant population?) would come into play as far as dialogue is concerned.
Well said Pyromaniac. I never really saw the friendship between Pyro and Iceman. It looked more like barely contained hostility. :)

Well said Pyromaniac. I never really saw the friendship between Pyro and Iceman. It looked more like barely contained hostility. :)I don't agree. Sure, they annoyed each other, but who doesn't have a good old moan about their friends every now and then.
In the scene where the school is attacked, when Bobby runs to look for Rogue, John chooses to follow him. Only a friend would do that in the middle of an attack.
I don't agree. Sure, they annoyed each other, but who doesn't have a good old moan about their friends every now and then.
True.
But, I just didnīt see the friendship. I think Pyro envied too much of everything that Iceman had. His family and relationship with Rogue.

I can't remember them helping each other out much - they hardly did anything positive for each other at all.
Pyro seemed selfish and not as nice a guy as Iceman in X2.

He definately appeared envious of Bobby's family, but then, his parents did leave him to fend for himself. It's only natural he'd feel jealous of those who had what he didn't. That said, I'm not sure he had much to be jealous of in Bobby's family. :p
As for Rogue, I don't think he was at all jealous of what they had.
I appreciate what you're saying though. We were left to assume there was some friendship in X2, but it was never really directly alluded to.
Pyro seemed selfish and not as nice a guy as Iceman in X2.
Thatīs why i love him. :D He was even going to leave Wolverine behind when the mansion was attacked.
But yeah, not a friendly guy.

He only did that because they bumped into each other in the best of 'conveniently timed' moments. ;)
And hey, amidst chaos of a familiar world cracking around you, wouldn't you stick to even the person you hate the most...?
I'm just speaking generally.
But you did raise a point I don't need to clarify myself. Bobby went only to look for Rogue...?!
But in all fairness, you had to have Pyro be part of the miscellaneous as Wolverine, leading the teenagers, fleeds to Boston; and St. John Allerdyce's story unfolds from there.
By the way, the main issue with Iceman and Pyro's friendship was that it was anything that it wasn't. It was barely there. And if it was 'hostility', then why is that? Why is it there? What is that reason? Rivalry? No, it's one of those instances when we needed it to be a little more explicit, as opposed to Rogue and Pyro's.
Yes, one can have a good moan about their friends now and then, but only when we have already seen the positive upsides of that friendship: ie, they're good for each other in different ways. But from the onset - even I detected much more in Rogue and Pyro's, which was a lot subtler.
What I had wished was for in the deleted campfire scene, that Iceman has a one-on-one talk with Pyro in regards to the earlier events, or what his feelings and thoughts made rebukingly clear in the gentlest way possible the flagrance of Pyro's powers, or something akin to. But Iceman, being the man of ice, warms his hands on the fire...!

i for one didn't really see much of a friendship between Bobby and John

I always thought that their friendship was based more on that they were opposites and therefore canceled each other out. That sounds kind of wierd but Iceman keeps John from getting killed because of his reckless behavior(and keeping him from killing other people like the kid in the museum.) John therefore should make Bobby more reckless, but he really didn't do that.
Also John likes Rogue a little bit he kept showing off. Both in X-men 1 &2. So John might have been a little bit jealous of Bobby and Rogue's relationship.

True, but by your logic, we are all opposites with everyone else, but you don't see us being friends with them on explicit principle alone, do you...?

Envy, yes. Another form of envy.

I like Pyro in the movies...but I loved him in Evo...he just had this frenetic energy about him in that cartoon that always made me laugh...or maybe it was the scene where he kept repeating video of Magneto getting crushed by a Sentinel and laughing...

I've been to Disneyworld.
Great stuff. Definitely the happiest place on earth.
One of my fondest memories there was staring at a fine Bruce Campbell lookalike's butt (I was butt-level at the time incidentally) for two hours in the queue to the waterslide ride. He was with a blonde lady who had a moustache on.
Knowing that the photo would be taken of us on our highest peak, I actually hoped and wished we would be in the same tobaggan with them, so I could have photographical evidence to back it up.
But alas, we had to sit with a family behind us.
