View Full Version : The Master Of Magnetism":The Official Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr Thread'
http://pics-11.hi5.com/userpics/711/656/65657711.img.jpg
To join on the bandwagon of recent "official" character threads, and because there was not one thread on all 9 pages dedicated to The Master of Magnetism, this thread has been created to discuss all things Magneto related in X3.
http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192003
I dont know whats more sad. The fact that there already is a thread on this, or that you're the one who created it. :(
No JP,this one's simply for Mags alone. He certainly deserves his own, cmon! And yes I did make that one sometime ago.
I dont see how taking Xaviers name out of the thread changes anything.
It makes the focus of the thread on Magneto alone JP.You remember the Beast and Mystique thread?Well now there's a Mystique for her character alone, just for her. That's what taking the name out does.

i have something to discuss in this thread. how i nthe hell do you spell the guys name??? I stick with eric lehnsherr. the name in the profile thing in x2 was eric lensherr and then in the credits at the end its spelled eric lehnsherr. comics are erik lehnsherr and sometimes erik lensherr. why cant they make their mind up!

It still makes no sense. The thread was for all discussion on Xavier and Magneto.. having a thread that is on Magneto alone doesn't change anything.. It's still a duplicate thread.

Magneto is Awesome but I think his going to die in X3. They can't put him in prison again unless Xavier does his ultimate X men thing and wipes magneto's memory to make him belive his an average joe. That could be cool. Either that or he turns into a good guy his done it a bunch of times in the comics, clones not withstanding.
Okay, so I guess it's okay to disregard the Jean Grey/Phoeinix thread and start a new thread called 'Famke/Jean Grey' ... cuz there is a big difference.

I have previously argued that it might be good to keep Magneto alive in X3 so there is continuity between X3 and the Magneto spin-off (which is bound to feature McKellen in some form, even just as a voiceover).
However, I think it could also be good if he died in X3, then Moira MacTaggert could clone him from the tissue and we'd get a younger version.... (I've borrowed elements of this from the comic storyline in which he was reverted to infancy by a mutant he created, raised and genetically modified by Moira, then brought back to a younger adulthood by Shi'ar agent Erik the Red)
Without being cruel, McKellen does look very haggard in some of the shots (the prison scenes especially). Surely he can afford surgery to remove those massive eyebags!
And the hair needs something done to it. Magneto's comicbook hair is white and wavy... McKellen's is grey and the wrong sort of wavy. It needs to be more like the comicbook version, or cropped into a sharper crewcut style that helps McKellen look younger and more dynamic.
Hope all that didn't sound mean.. Magneto is actually my favourite character and the movie version has been excellent. For the 'comicbook costume lovers', he's had the most accurate costume of them all... and his power displays have been impressive and very well done (except the raising of the cop cars in X1, which was done too casually and made them look obviously yanked in the air by a crane... it needed the 'humming' magnetic-pulse sound that is usually put over his power displays, and to be done more slowly and deliberately).
He would look so badass if Ian grew his hair a bit longer.

It be nice if Magneto is dying in the spinoff and then founds out he has kids and so on. Told in flashback I guess.
In X3, I think the best thing would be for Xavier to mind-wipe him of something.
ahhh....who can forget X-Men issue 25.I could see that happening Neto.

Yeah I liked your line of thinking.
Not kissing your ass or anything but you made some valid points about appearances and effects of the character as well as the neccessary condensing/altering of comic stories to fit the movies.

No probs, Will. I was trying to logically see what might happen to Magneto, and to take into account the fact that McKellen may not (want to) return for another X-movie. Cloning a younger version would solve that, it would bring in the younger version that appeared in the comics, and Moira could use her assistant Jamie (the super-cloning Multiple Man) to discover the cloning techniques needed....

I personally think I should be Lehnsherr because that is german for: "liege" which has quite some symbolic character ;)
PS: It should be pronounced: lens hair (with a longer e in lens/ dont know how to write that)
X-Maniac
09-06-2005, 07:35 AM
Yes, it should be Lehnsherr. This is German for a medieval/feudal lord, a liege...
In the comics, it turned out to be a name he used but not his real name. It would make sense that he took a name that meant 'lord' as it would be seem unlikely that the German name Lehnsherr would be the real name of a man born to Polish gipsy/Jew parents.
Hey guys, let's bump this beautiful thread which I created and get the positivity going again!
Now,there have been rumours of this scene which crew members are calling "hell".This scene has potential to be Magneto's defining moment in any of the movies.Hopefully they have enough time to make the effects top notch and putt it off."Pushing" the Golden Gate bridge into the Alcatraz is utter madness and I can't wait for it to appear on screen.
Also, assuming Sentinels are in it,Magneto has to take on the Sentinels in this movie.I just want to see him man handle them effortlessly with a grin on his face.

Actually, I think it would be great to do little stories about the people who are effected by the X-men/Brotherhood. Kinda like the internet show called "Troops;" which is based on the Storm Troopers in Star Wars.
I can see the story about the guy who had a bullet touching his head (stopped by Magneto). He was never the same after his crapped himself in front of his partner.

Don't tell that to a guy we used to have on the imdb messageboard. He claims that Stewert was the worst casting in the X movies. He said it was typecasting and stupid. Can you believe that? He said he's posted on here, so I don't know if any of you have dealt with him.

I like the fact Mags looked haggered he was in prison after all. I don't think ian mackellen should have plastic surgery I mean that can be fixed by prostetics and make up. Surgey is a little drastic and he could end up more messed up than he looked before like Mickey Rooke.

It looks Magneto will fly:eek:  This is what special effects advisor Chris Palmer had to say!
From Chicago Tribune:
Published February 5, 2006
Q. What was notable about, say, "X-Men"?
A. X-Men had more rigging--flying and suspending people--than anything I've ever worked on. In one scene, Ian McKellen flies across his hideout. The underwriters were concerned. He was 100 feet off the ground.
The underwriters generally have an absolute stunt exclusion on the main actors. But we're often able to work with underwriters to lift the exclusion.
You'll hear an actor say, "I did all of my own stunts." Generally, that's not true. Jackie Chan does all his own stunts. Pierce Brosnan as James Bond did a lot of his stunts. But there are risks that insurance carriers won't allow the actors to take without precautions.
If the actor can't perform because of death or disability, cast insurance pays for delays and sometimes abandonment. That's a huge potential loss because daily production costs can run $150,000 to $500,000.Source: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0602050186feb05,1,6298025.story?coll=chi-business-hed

Hmm. I think there's actually going to be too much flying in the movie. Has it ever actually be confirmed that will see Phoenix fly?
Not to my knowledge... the writers would not respond to that specific question at thexverse.com. However, I am guessing that she will fly.

i mean why couldnt storm fly in the first one at ellis island, she says "it doesnt work that way" but now it does?
jean makes a little more sense. her powers were blocked so much that she didnt have the power to fly, but now with them gone she can

The real explanation: They didn't have the budget, and the movie kept everything 'grounded' (literally on the ground!)
The movieworld explanation: She's been practising her control in the Danger Room? Everyone was evolved by Magneto's machine? Kinberg or Penn said Storm had 'evolved'... i don't know how literally to take this...! Perhaps her ccomment in X1 meant she couldn't control it like that if she flew someone else on winds - it must be more difficult than flying herself where she has more precise control of the air around her than trying to control it around Wolverine from a distance.

In the screen cap from the new trailer where it shows jeans legs and Prof X is in the wheel chair, well Magneto is in the back ground in the kitchen. He is on the floor leaning against the kitchen cabinets. This looks to be the scene where previously we saw Magneto screaming. The Prof is wearing the same suit in the scene where they are outside walking with Mags in Jeans neighbothood as he is in the scene where Jean is lifting him out of the chair. I would take a guess that this is within the first half of the movie. After Jean has run away, They go to her neighborhood chasing after her. Mags has learned of Jeans existance (more powerful than you) and he went to talk with her as well to bring her to the brotherhood side. When the Prof and Mags go inside the house they find Jean changing into her new clothes (the scene lifting the Prof shows her unitard and shirt) and in a bad mood. She fights with them and Storm then fights with the brotherhood outside the house. Somehow Jean goes with Mags and perhaps the scene with the empty wheel chair and Storm/Wolv is after this (perhaps Jean killed the Prof at that point). Just a theory based on what I have scene so far. Maybe wrong.

There are a lot of telepaths that could be around, so if he has this kind of technology I can't imagine that he would ditch it. If he's not wearing it where would he keep it.

I know. This scene is going to be awesome. I think Magneto would have been cautious the whole time Xavier was talking with Phoenix. Hmmm... I think I've realized something interesting about Magneto. When he is in the woods, talking to the mass of muties, its obvious he doesn't have his helmet. Which leads me to believe this happens after -this is my point- Xavier dies. He's only ever used it to stay away from Charles, at least in the Movie Verse... and he doesn't have to worry about Jean as she's aiding him.

Not sure about that. He never wore his helmet on his island lair in X1. He treats it like a 'battle helmet' and wears it mainly for action scenes and when he is trying to avoid telepathic attack.

You guys are being too complex. Magneto's not wearing the helment for one simple reason:
He knows Phoenix can do whatever she likes to him, helmet or not. SHe attacks him in her home, and I'm willing to bet it's regardless of the helmet. So, why bother?

But for an ill-timed snow flurry, Ian McKellen's first film would have been The Bells Of Hell Go Ting-A-Ling-A-Ling. If he hadn't been in a tiny BBC adaptation, Bryan Singer wouldn't have cast him in Apt Pupil and then as Magneto. McKellen's intimidating CV has had a lot to do with chance, and in a frank, witty and surprising interview, we find out about LOTR, Oscar and why Professor X and Magneto are destined to end up in bed together.

Yep, looks like Beast on the right of the picture. Also, it's odd that where he's clutching his left hand to his chest, it almost looks like three Wolverine claws sticking out of it! The mist near to him is obviously his breath in the cold air.

I don't think that stuff is sticking out of his chest. Look at the glove on his outstretched hand. The same three things are on that glove, so it's just the stuff on his other glove.

I'm thinking it may be too. The light showing between the standing left person's legs is similar to the lighting in the DR scenario.

No, it the gravel looks like the gravel from the final battle, not the DR. Besides, it wouldn't make any sense for him to die there.

I agree! I think Xavier and Magneto are both gonna die.
Honest opinion: Don't want either one to die, but most likely it will happen. Either Magneto or Xavier... Or both. Just wish they will have a good death. Xavier in a battle with Jean and Magneto getting his ass kicked in the final battle by X-Men. (or like some hope: Sentinels will kill him)

I'm hoping Sentinels will kill Magneto, he'll die at the hands of human weaponry - it'd be a powerful and effective end to his disdain for humans arc!

Magneto would be one of the only deaths I could accept. Not that I don't love the character, but it's an appropriate end for his part in the trilogy, much more so than any other character.
He went to prison at the end of X1, lived to fight another day in X2; if this really is the end of a "trilogy" he won't just run off again. His thread needs to be tied up, and unless he flees to a far off land to rule his own people, the only other option is to die in the war he's been anticipating since day one. Trying to annhilate the human race in X2 was his point of no return.

Killing Magneto isn't that good of an idea, IMO. If it happens that way, I'll be OK with it as long as he goes out using his raging powers...
But he is the X-men's greatest friend and foe. He is as important as any X-man, IMO. There's always a role for him. As an X-man, or as a Villian.

if whatever is sticking out of him gives him the cure, I'd be alright with that. Having him be cured and then bringing in some sentinels would be a smart move on the army's part, considering he could own all of the sentinels like nothing.
If it's the quills taking him out, meh. That'd be real weak
Sigh... The whole world is against me. :D
There are bunch of other mutants who could kill Magneto. And yes, there are Sentinels too. Either way. :)
No, Quills cannot kill Magneto. The most powerful mutant of all. It's a disgrace!:o
