My dad loves ELO.

They're really great. Some of the most innovative rock and roll music of the seventies, and definitely the most unique as far as I'm concerned. Why they haven't made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me.

1. The Beatles. Come on. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band, Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour... all classics. My favourite song is probably Strawberry Fields Forever. It completely captures my childhood memories, in a darkly twisted, Lennonesque fashion.

2. Pink Floyd. Love 'em.

I like a little bit of everything. Notice both my choices are retro... yet I am fifteen.

Yeah, and that's just what I could think of off the top of my head. If I took some time and looked through my extensive CD collection I'm sure I could come up with some more. And then there's some that kind of straddle the line between rock and some other genre that I'm not sure if I should list.

"Honkin on Bobo" really has things looking up for Aerosmith. Not only was it better than anything they'd released since "Pump", it's even better than some of the stuff preceding it, like "Night in the Ruts".

It can be, but it doesn't have to be. My dad is an awesome banjo player and I can assure you that he is not a redneck. The banjo is actually a derivative of an African instrument and was invented by black slaves. Not all that redneck of a beginning. The banjo is also used in a lot of Irish music. Not redneck. And then there's Bela Fleck, who, while certainly an able bluegrass player, has done a lot of wierd jazz-flavored stuff.

I've been turned on to Silvertide since I saw them play the WMMR Christmas Jam with Shinedown in Philly. I hope they get huge, because they absolutely deserve it.

And I like songs by Aerosmith from all periods, but the majority comes from the seventies when they rocked hardest.

My favourite band is Pink Floyd, with Queen coming in second. My favourite song is "When The Tigers Broke Free".

it was one miserable morning
in black '44
the forward commander was told to sit tight
when he asked for his men to be withdrawn
and the generals gave thanks, as the other ranks, held back the enemy tanks, for a while
and the Anzio Bridgehead was held at the cost
of a few hundred
ordinary lives

it was dark all around
there was frost on the ground
when the tigers broke free
and noone survived from the Royal Fusiliers company C
they were all left behind
most of them dead
the rest of them dying
and that's how the high command took my daddy
from me

"Draw the Line" is worth it for the last track alone. The rest of the album is very good overall, but that last track, whose title I can't recall right now is KILLER.That would be the old folk blues standard, Milk Cow Blues. I've got a version of it by the old time North Carolina mountains folk guitarist Doc Watson. It has also been covered by The Kinks, George Strait, Robert Johnson... and many more. The Aerosmith version is the best of the bunch. Most of the versions are characterized by that fine ol' line; "Won't you please.... Don't that sun look good goin' down?"

I have a killer live version of this song taken from the old Mama Kins club in Boston from 1994. The entire disc is the live show recorded from the mixing board and sounds fantastic. The disc is usually called "House on Fire, Aerosmith LIVE, small club in Boston." If you ever get a chance to get this disc, do it! It can sometimes be found on eBay.

With the exception of "Ten Years", that thing kicks ASS!My fav track is Shakin' My Cage.Damn, that song belongs on one of their albums from the 70s its so good! You know I got it Cyclops. And yeah, Ten Years is a love song for his wife. Can't really blame him.

There are some great songs on it, and Joe does all the vocals and instrumentation. Except the drums, his engineer handles those. But Joe even does the bass lines. Dang it sounds good and clean too. Listen to it on the DVD side in Dolby 5:1 WOW!

The song "Lonely" to me is the best on the disc. Its right up there with any of the classic Joe Perry or Aerosmith hard fast rockers. What a great song. Its worth mentioning too the song "Vigilante Man" the old Woody Guthrie folk song has never sounded so good as Perry's version with Joe's patented electric slide guitar from hell treatment! :D

Here's a pic of Joe on the docks in New Orleans of all places... and another in the studio with his American flag guitar.

Now are you talkin' post PV Aerosmith?Or 70s Aerosmith?IMO,nothing will ever beat the Aerosmith of the 70s...Agreed. You really can't beat discs like Toys in the Attic and ROCKS

Joe Page 228 : "I wrote the original riff to "Toys In The Attic" at Black Angus Studios, Andy Paley's converted barn off Route 9 in Ashland, which is where we worked with Jack(Douglas) on that album before we moved to the Record Plant. This is where we started to come into our own in the studio, using it as our palette, writing more in the studio as opposed to them just turning on the machines for us to play. We started to become recording artists instead of having our albums being a record of us playing live.

"Walk This Way", for example.
I was into funky stuff, had played James Brown songs over the years, and at times was listening to lots of the Meters from New Orleans, one of the best bands in the country, and I was asking, "Why don't we write our own songs that have that feel to them? Let's try to write something funky so we don't have to cover James Brown." At the sound check in Hawaii, I came up with that riff, added it to another one I came up with while watching a Godzilla movie-- one of my favorite compositional methods-- and Steven wrote the lyrics in the stairwell of the Record Plant."

Yes I did. And I appreciate it. It's got to be one of my favorite Aerosmith songs of all time. :)

My brother has the album, "In Your Honor", I think it's called, and when I heard those first few seconds of the second track I couldn't help but think "Oh wow, the Foo Fighters are covering "Toys in the Attic"? This should be interesting at the very least. Then I listened some more and it just turned out to an almost note-for-note rip of what Joe played. It's disappointing.

And the greatest solo rock artist of all time John Lennon!

I think George had the best solo career of all the Beatles.

I'll agree with you that Harrison's solo career was great, but Lennon's definately my favorite.

I just feel like "All Things Must Pass" is the PINNACLE of Solo Beatle albums, and then there's the Traveling Wilburys, and George's brilliant final huzzah "Brainwashed", released in 2002. I don't have much of his stuff, but George's solo work just trounces his former bandmates' work as far as I'm concerned. It just felt like it touched on such a deeper level.

Besides, I will never forgive John for "So This is Christmas", but that debacle was mostly his horrid wife's fault.

True. Although, I hear Paul's new album is damn good. Haven't heard it yet though.

Point taken. Just something about Lennon's lyrics really touch me. George, John, and Paul's solo careers were all really magnificent though. While Ringo's career has really gone downhill.

Hey, Ringo was Mr. Conductor and Mr. Conductor was AWESOME. He was way better than that George Carlin guy, and Alec Baldwin didn't even register on the map.

Any of you guys seen "Concert for George"? That was the awesomest thing ever. EVER.

Too many to list but my Top 5 would be:

1) The Beatles
2) Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple
3) Seattle grunge bands - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains
4) System of a Down
5) Linkin Park

And dozens more which I am too lazy to list.

Uhh... what about Paul? I always thought he's got the best solo career. He's still rocking now and in fact, I'll be seeing him later this year.

Paul's good, but I like George better. I like his songwriting style better, I like his instrumentation better, and there is no arguing that George was one of the best guitarists in the world during his time.

And I don't feel that anything Paul's ever done has quite measured up to George's best. If you can find it, get yourself a copy of "All Things Must Pass" as it was remastered in 2000. It blows anything the other Beatles have done out of the water.

I agree but as far as being successful goes, I think it's Paul. I think George is underrated. And like you, I prefer his songwriting style to John or Paul. I already own a copy of All Things Must Pass. ;) I grew up listening to The Beatles so to me, they're the GREATEST rock band, EVER!

Oh, psht. I'm not talking monetary success. There is no doubt that Paul's the most successful of the former Beatles even though they're (or their estates) all, to use Forrest Gumpinology, "go-jillionaires", it's kind of a moot point.

I was only talking about my favorite, and for me, the best is without a doubt in my mind, George. He's my favorite of the Beatles and I just love his solo stuff so much.

his last album, "brainwashed". yeah. good stuff. "any road" was one of the best things he's done since the beatles.

It's one of my favorites. You really can't go wrong with a Harrison/Lynne collaboration. Too bad they didn't give the Wilburys one last go before George went. :( I would have KILLED for another Volume of Traveling Wilburys.
