I enjoyed it a lot even though I'm not a big Ellis fan. He had a lot of interesting things to say in the text feature in the back. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

yeah, unfortunately, I hadn't gotten to reading that part yet, and the issue got left in a doctors office...

just read the wizard article on the book. It's got a really cool set-up: every issues is going to be a 16 page comic with 6 pages of supplemental material for only $1.99. Every issues is going to be self contained and easily accessible

sounds like a cool experiment

Hot damn. interesting. So if each issue is self contained, what was Issue one about?

basicly the main character is one Detective Fell, who has been transfered across town, over the bridge to Snowtown, which is a really scummy place where the laws have pretty much broken down and no one cares about much

(favorite line in the book. Fell is meeting his captain: "I've got 3 and a half detective for the whole precinct" "three and a half?" yeah, johnsons got no legs" :D)

but the first issue pretty much has him coming into town, meeting sargent, talking to a girl at a bar and showing her his detective skills, and helping a potential runaway solve her father's murder. That doesn't quite do it justice, but it's a summary

Yeah, I bought it and thought it was really well done. I'll read anything that Ben Templesmith illustrates, hell, I'd read douche instructions if he illustrated them! Anywho, back on topic. I love Ellis' idea of a relatively cheap comic with great, self-contained stories, amazing artwork and some cool, "meet the writer" supplemental stuff at the end. I think I'm hooked. Gotta add it to my pull-file. Gonna have to drop another crappy Marvel book for it, probably. Totally worth it, though.

I have to agree
His cover art is what drew me to the comic in the first place.

I already liked him as an artist, and now I have lots of respect for him that he was willing to go in on this experimental venture with Ellis.

It's nice to see a book like this come together so well. Templesmith is a perfect fit for this story, he gives Snowtown that perfect eerie feel.

I really want this book to do well so that it'll survive and maybe we'll see more like it.

Warren Ellis put his email address for this title on the back pages, he's also encouraging people to take pictures of their own Snowtown tags and send it to him...it's already started :)

Are you referring to Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan comics? If so, then no. But I am interested in hearing about them. What are they about?

I love the Alan Moore-inspired writers like Ellis and Grant Morrison. It's so refreshing to have writers who don't stick to the same old conventions and subject matter. It's great to have someone who speaks to my skewed views on the world. :D

i hadn't heard anything about it being cancelled, but i hope not. that would suck. it's the perfect sized comic to read while i'm on the can. :(

you should pick it up. it's a really fun book. $1.99 and you get a good stand-alone story, great art and interesting extras. i'm thinking about getting the snowtown tattoo, that is, if i can talk myself into getting a tattoo.

That's an awesome idea.

As far as the series getting canceled, sorry to scare anyone. I read that on another forum, so I guess it was just BS. There are covers to 7 and 8 on the Image website, so I shouldn't have believed the lie.

Image shows #7 comes out in August, and says RES next to the title. Anyone know what that means?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like the cover to #6.

Anyone still reading this? My comic shop lost my subscription, so I just noticed that #8 was released last month, and it was a damn good issue. Lookin' forward to #9, though not sure when that might be, since there's very little information about it online.

SOC, I've read just about everything Ellis has written, and can assure you everything is superb (excpet for his Marvel superhero titles. Aside from Nextwave, they're really really not worth it) You've got your plate full if you want to work your way through Transmet, but here're some other Ellis titles you should track down

Ministry of Space
Red
Global Frequency
Nextwave
Planetary (Arguably his best series)
Stormwatch (pre-cedes The Authority)
Ruins
Desolation Jones
Ocean
Down
Jack Cross

Based on The Authority alone, I've now got my eyes peeled for Planetary and Stormwatch TPBs. I'll wiki the other titles you mention to see what others might fit my tastes. Thanks for the list!

Transmet has had too many people recommend it for me to pass it up. Might wait until I've finished 100 Bullets in trades to start buying it, though.

Planetary is amazing. Ellis and Cassaday are perfectly matched for each other. Transmet is as good as everyone says and whatever your expectation is, it lives up to it.

Amazing! Yesterday I went to my Half-Price Bookstore where I previously picked up The Authority. They had Transmet TPB 1-9 all at half cover price. I picked up 1-3 and a Birds of Prey Tpb for $25.

I've read the first TPB and I'm now going to have to head back there and pick up 4-9 before anyone scampers off with them.

thanks Elijya, a few of the Ellis titles you mentioned were new to me. I'll be looking them up now. Although you missed out a great deal of his work with Avatar. Have you read Black Gas?

He did indeed. Gonna start picking up the single issues for him regularly, starting with #9.

Backmatter says the next batch of issues should be coming in faster than the last. Apparently, Templesmith was off doing press for 30 Days of Night, and in that time, Ellis didn't write anything, so it wouldn't stress Templesmith out.
