Season one was great.Big ending shocker.I wonder how this season will play out.The previews keep suggesting a new mystery.
Also Charisma Carpenter will be appearing, and I even hear Joss Whedon may have a guest spot.

I saw a few episodes of the first season here and there and they were pretty good. I'm definitely going to watch the second season just to see Charisma Carpenter, considering I think she's the hottest woman alive.

Lilly was actually killed with an ashtray. She was having an affair with Logan's movie star father and she found out he had been videotaping the little sessions. She stole the tapes and he got angry and killed her by the pool. Duncan found her and had an episode and basically got soaked in her blood. When her parents showed up, they thought it was Duncan that killed her and attempted to cover it up.

question- does anyone else get a weird "late late 80's/early 90's- syndicated" TV show vibe from VM? Like, the kind of show that would've originally aired at 4pm on saturday afternoons or something?
I don't know why- but that's how i felt about the show from day one- and it's kind of what keeps the show interesting for me. it's a weird tone to be going for.

Who watched last night's epi? Was it not great?! We had V teaming up with Kane Software's head security man, Weedman, which was totally unexpected...
Got some arson...some creepy roommate swapping...
And some Dick...Casablancas that is. Is it wrong that I'm missing Wallace, but seriously want Duncan to go away...?
Back to the point, V's dad ain't Sheriff, which upsets me...but I'm over it...I've heard that V's cop ex-beau is making an appearance in an upcoming epi where V's dad is investigating the Sheriff's office on something to do with Logan Anyone else missing the LoVe of the show? I don't know...those two just fit better than VD.

Bump.
I've been out of the loop. What happened with Charisma's character?
[spoier]Well, for the recrod, she is Dick and Beaver's STEP-mom... and ever since their father's fraudulent multi billion dollar real estate practice were exposed... she's been kinda at their mercy. She also got needy with Logan and he seems to be in the process of dropping her. Dick just wants to sleep with her, but Beaver is using her as a puppet owner to run his potentially very successful real estate business. She, desperate, apparently took Beaver's offer and I'm sure we'll hear from her again.[/spoiler]
I think that spoiler answers the question about what happened to Mr. Casablancas (Dick and Beaver's father)
I love this show. I love how despicably hatable Jackie is (The new girl, Wallace's love interest) and I think having a hatable character who isn't quite the show-stealing bad girl teen shows love to flaunt is/was a stroke of genious and hope Jackie gets even more hatable in the months to come. Of course, it'll be great to see how Wallace drops her.
I also don't like Duncan... I don't like the way they've turned Veronica into a '09er again and I don't like the lack of a major overarching storyline... but the show is so dang good that I forget that stuff everytime I turn it on and I actually expect them to bring everything back full circle.

Veronica discovered that Meg was pregnant. Meg woke up and asked that Veronica and Duncan ensure her kid not be taken in by her parents, who were going to send it to a Religious cult type thing that abuses kids. Meg died, and we still don't REALLY know whether or not it was an accident. Wallace, after finding out who his real dad is, decided to run away for a while to get things off his chest.

From imdb:
The lead character was originally going to be in a novel written by show creator, Rob Thomas.
The theme song is "We Used to be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols.
The episode "Russkie Business" (episode 1.15) features a guest turn by Alyson Hannigan. Denise Richards was considered for the role. Tara Reid was also considered.
In original project notes and the original pilot script for the show, there were some name changes. Lilly's name was Samantha, Lianne Mars's was Rebecca, then Abbie, Wallace's last name was Collier, Logan's last name was Hewitt, and the last name of the Kane's was Cain, then Caine.
In the original pilot, Lilly's body was dumped into a river and found later. The network found this a little too disturbing, especially because it involved Jake Kane disposing of his own daughter's body, and had her body be left on the Kane property.
The pilot script describes Veronica the following way: "She is not cute. She is sexy. Tough. Prematurely jaded. Angelina Jolie at 17."
The character of Meg was created specifically for Alona Tal. She auditioned for Veronica, and was Rob Thomas's second choice for the role. He liked her so much he made a recurring role for her.
Amanda Seyfried initially auditioned for the role of Veronica Mars.
The only two actresses considered for the role of Kendall Casablancas were Heather Graham and Charisma Carpenter. Graham was working on "Emily's Reasons Why Not", and Carpenter was an actual fan of "Veronica Mars", so she ended up being cast in the role.
The car that Veronica drives is a convertible Chrysler LeBaron
Concepts included in the original project notes for the show that were later dropped include Veronica being 13 when Lilly was murdered, Keith being fired because of evidence disappearing from the police station, with hints that Don Lamb was behind it, Strom Jenkins, a character who called in the Abel Koontz tip, and Veronica finding that Strom Jenkins, Don Lamb, and Jake Kane were part of a larger conspiracy to cover up Lilly's death.
UPN, the network that airs Veronica Mars, were concerned during early episodes that viewers would confuse Teddy Dunn and Jason Dohring, who play Duncan and Logan, respectively. A color code was created where Dunn wore blues, and Dohring wore earth tones (greens, browns, etc). The color code still stands today.
Jason Dohring initially auditioned for the role of Duncan.

I think that Beaver did it. He was, according to one of the sides from the finale, on Woody's little league. He was probably the victim of Woody's pedophilia too. So he tried to kill Woody with the bomb. But somehow it ended up on the bus.
The only other motive I can think of for him is that the "outing of all outings" being planned by the one kid on the bus was actually Beaver, and Beaver wanted him dead.
I don't think it's Woody. That's too obvious.

Seems more likely to be Kendall, but I can't really think of a motive.
I think maybe Woody is a part of some big child sex ring in Neptune. It would tie into Meg's abusive parents from earlier in the season, and it would also possibly tie into Veronica's chlamidya. Veronica got it from Duncan, who got it from Meg, who got it from someone in the child sex ring. And maybe Marcos and Peter and Meg were all going to rat on it. It would also tie into Woody paying off the other bus crash victim's family for some still unknown reason. I don't know, the child sex ring is the most bizarre, but it also seems like the only thing that ties into all the victims.

Hmm,I missed the whole chlamydia(how do you spell that crap anyway) thing. I guess it sorta makes sense, except Meg's parents didnt seem sexually abusive.
JLBats
05-07-2006, 08:22 PM
Meg's parents weren't sexually abusive, at least not blatantly. They were more religious nuts. So I guess it doesn't really make sense. But it would tie in the chlamydia thing. It still doesn't necessarily resolve who the killer is though.

The Question
05-07-2006, 08:28 PM
Okay, here's my deal. I've heard very good things about this series. Hell, some of my favorite writers have said it kicks ass. So, I want to get into it. But I must ask, is the show highly serialized? Because, I don't want to jump on in the middle of a story arc. I can usually deal with that well, but I'd still like to know.
JLBats

If it's Beaver, I'd find it awesome, then terrible. The thought of some little teenager killing a busful of people with a bomb is just sort of sickening. The thought that he did it because of molestation is even more sickening.
If I had to make a bet, I'd say Beaver got Lucky to make him the bomb that killed the busful of people. The bomb found on Woody's car was also made by Lucky, of course, who was only doing it because he was bat**** insane and was fired by Woody. Maybe Beaver asked Curly Moran how he'd done that stunt on the Long Haul, so he'd know how to kill the people on the bus. Then, when Curly realised it was Beaver who did it, Beaver ran him off the cliff. Curly wrote Veronica's name on his hand because he had been going to find her to help him take Beaver down.
I'm not sure any of this makes sense, but oh well, fun to speculate.

The beauty of the show is in the continuity and unfolding of the grand mystery, it was obviously very well planned out, but the serialization isn't the only great aspect, it simply features wonderful writing, some of my favorite eps have little to do with the larger mystery, I would highly suggest you get the first season on DVD and continue from there.

A little old but...
TVGuide.com: On the topic of whether Duncan actually ever succumbed to Kendall's charms, Mars creator Rob Thomas said here at TVGuide.com, "Duncan's not built that way." Is that ego-deflating for you to hear or — and this is my theory — is Duncan simply built the wrong way?
Carpenter: The latter! [Laughs] I guess Kendall is just not very discerning about to whom she gives her body. But, given some new insights I've been given from Rob, apparently everything has a purpose and a meaning. My character's IQ is about to jump up about 50 points, did he tell you that? Things are about to become very clear.
TVGuide.com: What, has Kendall been putting on some sort of act?
Carpenter: [Coyly] I guess.... Rob likened her to Annette Bening in The Grifters, which as you know is an amazing role. I was like, "Really? That's goooood!" I just love those people [at Veronica Mars]. They're awesome.

Watched it streaming tonight myself. More spoilers: Not the most amazing episode ever, but it was really but as a season opener to set stuff up, it worked really well. SO glad to see all these characters again! And the dialogue was so snappy! Veronica really felt perfectly Veronica-y again, if that makes sense. And BSG references! Yay! And I am so, so glad that Tina Marjorino is a regular this year. Mac is awesome.
Loved the new credits. Seemed more grownup, but kept the song, which was really all I wanted anyway. :)
Logan and Veronica - still together, who expected it? I figured they'd break up again over the summer. Was it just me or did he seem more into her than she was into him?
Like the way the Rapist mystery ties back in to the episode from last season.

The new credits are sweet, but I'm not sure the remixed song matches with it. Mac seems really downtrodden this year. Her hair doesn't even have the coloured streaks in it.
Dick is just so completely ****ed up this year. Logan taking him in was a great gesture. Logan seems to be in a much better place than last year, when he was practically suicidal.

Loved tonight's episode with cheating running rampant throughout the Neptune/Hearst in so many different ways. Good to see Wallace owned up to his cheating and was willing to throw everything away to follow his true dream. Liked Logan's little bit a cheating, completely the way Logan would do that, first use his name, then find another way out. The rape case is getting more interesting with the TA working on it and Veronica thinking she has the right person, only for Logan to tell her different. I'm leaning towards the newspaper editor, but that seems too obvious, so out of the blue guess is Piz, only because of the way he acted around Parker. One annoying thing is that the classroom's don't seem to look the same as they did earlier in the season for what seems to be classes I've seen the characters already attend. However, at least our characters are seen attending class and worrying about class and their grades, which is always very rare in television series especially when a show moves to college.

:csad: my wife just sent me this- i think its from TVGuide.com:
Many of you have written in asking about this, and here's the deal: According to Rob Thomas, Francis had a medical condition that's required quite a bit of medication, causing him to swell up and break out. The swelling has since subsided, and Francis returns in Episode 9 looking "lean and mean," Rob tells me. Some skin problems remain, but "he's feeling better, and it's just a matter of time before he's his old self."
Honestly, the adding mass for prison thing kinda made sense in an off way... and it really works for the "Janitor just trying to do right" as he becomes more of a force, I imagine him getting lean and mean again will be pretty cool...
Kazaam! (sorry)

Though unintentional, it actually does work quite well, especially with characterization and how the audience is supposed to view him.
Finally got to "Hi, Infidelity" and man... not the uber-cliffhanger I was excpecting, but still cool...
Problem with Mercer: Cologne? Clippers? Are they serious? EVERY Guy I know has clippers, worst case scenario find some matching hair on the clippers or something. But the chances of multiple guys wearing a type of cologne are just too high... though perhaps we can look to Mercer's roomate or what have you. I heard storylines are going to be shorter this season, does this mean the rape storyline will wrap up soon?
I hadn't realized that we hadn't seen Mac at ALL. Wow.
Keith hurts though... isn't that what he DOES? Find infidelity? It'll be interesting if he has to out maneuver a PI hired to track Harmony... where's that snarky guy from Season 1... the guy with the pens?
Also, the TA went from a jerk to one of the brightest jerks around. I love him now... he's a formidable jerk. Every show needs a character like that. House MD pays their bills with it.
This show is awesome, btw... yeah.

You forgot the real smoking gun, Sheriff Lamb found GHB (the date rape drug) in Mercer's casino cash box.

I think it's odd that a show that often focuses on sex crimes has characters with names like Dick, Beaver, and Woody.

Something that didn't make sense to me was why Veronica tried to get in her car and not call anyone. I know she was having trust issues with her dad and Logan, but she knew she was drugged and obviously not okay to drive. There was not only a South Park reference, but a Blues Brothers reference too, when she mentioned Orange Whip.

It's season 3, you should definitely watch the first two seasons that are on DVD, they're great and really help you understand the characters more.
The theme song is "We Used to Be Friends" by The Dandy Warhols

Huh. It doesn't fit as badly as I expected, but the visuals have to be sped up just a little bit. Under this music, they look lethargic.
I like the change in style a whole lot... it's not a song I would listen to on its own, but it represents a certain maturing of the show, and was necessary with the change from HS to college and UPN to CW. It makes sense, even if it's "emo."
I, personally would be favorable to a more uptempo theme next year or two years from now... perhaps different chords than previously used, but uptempon nontheless... this, however, is fine for now, imho.

Damn great episode tonight, need to watch it again to get everything in the kidnapping case, but the rape stuff was really good. So two of what five? rapes were faked. However, Maybe Funke, Parker and the other girl from last season we don't know about could've been the girls, could've been someone else. I want to see next weeks episode now! I really didn't like that LoVe/Piz=? though, Logan deserves to something good in his life, he's probably the most tragic character on the show. At least Mac comes back next week. So who's the real rapist and who dies? Sucks that Hallie's little game destroyed the whole greek system, she's gonna be Miss Popular now, better hope her boyfriend makes with the leaving fast.

Poor Logan. That whole brawl in the lunchroom was unexpected. And for a bizarre moment I thought Meg was in the preview for next week. Too many damn blondes in Neptune.:o But yay, Mac comes back!:yay:
Wait--the girls raped chip? WTF?
Technically he was sodomized.:o
