Okay, no one has started an episode discussion thread yet so I thought I'd go ahead and do it.

I found a very positive review of the season preem and thought I'd start it with that:

'Smallville' returns to the Kansas we all know (URL: http://www.kitsapsun.com/bsun/entertainment/article/0,2403,BSUN_19066_4112901,00.html)

Faster than a speeding bullet, "Smallville" has made Superman soar again.

Not that Clark Kent gets to fly in Thursday's fifth season premiere, airing at 8 p.m. EDT on The WB. (That's a new day and time slot.) But viewers won't need telescopic vision to see the series has returned to its original flight plan. The focus is back on Clark (Tom Welling), his family and friends.

Last season veered off course with a search for Kryptonian power stones, people getting possessed by other spirits or personalities and a new boyfriend that neither Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) nor viewers needed. Clark even had a possible love interest with an unfamiliar character who could teleport herself. All of that made me feel that, just like Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz," I wasn't in Kansas any more - at least not the Kansas known to Superman fans.

All of that changes with the season premiere. The episode, "The Arrival," is the best "Smallville" story since the third season. The reasons: The show has strengthened its focus on Clark Kent dealing with his Kryptonian and human sides, and the producers have wisely incorporated elements from the first two (and the best two) "Superman" movies. Most of all, the episode keeps its focus on the characters we know and care about.

The key character remains the future Superman, Clark, still played with realism by the talented Welling. Each season, Welling seems more comfortable with the character, and I have a hunch he's learning from the show's two best actors, John Schneider and Annette O'Toole, who have given new depth to Jonathan and Martha Kent, Clark's parents. (O'Toole, by the way, played Lana Lang in "Superman III.")

And it's good to see that Erica Durance, who was one of the best additions to last season, continues to play Lois Lane, this time with her name in the opening credits. Durance has given Lois the same spunk that Margot Kidder did in the "Superman" films.

Michael Rosenbaum and Kreuk continue to do well as Lex Luthor and Lana Lang. The big question is how fast Lex's power is corrupting him, a question "Smallville" needs to answer this season.

Viewers with x-ray vision will see there are plot spoilers ahead.

The season premiere picks up on last season's finale, in which another meteor shower strikes Smallville, Kan., a repeat of the shower that featured Clark Kent's arrival from Krypton. With the meteor shower comes another spaceship, this one with more Kryptonians. I won't spoil the details beyond that, except to say fans likely will like the story.

Meanwhile, Clark, who was magically transported to Alaska in the season finale, throws the Kryptonian stone into the ice, and, yes, he sees the sudden emergence of a Fortress of Solitude very similar to the one in "Superman I" and "II." And Clark hears the voice of his Kryptonian father Jor-El (and that's the voice of Terence Stamp, who played the villainous General Zod in the "Superman" movies.) Jor-El warns him of a threat to Earth.

It makes more sense to me to see Clark talking with Jor-El in that Fortress than in those Smallville caves that I never felt fit the series. I'm just not a fan of mixing "Smallville" with "Indiana Jones."

I won't give away too much, but Thursday's season premiere features some long overdue decisive turns. Clark and the other characters are taking charge of their destiny, and that will give "Smallville" more power to tell good stories.

And Thursday's story features a classic comic-book villain; Brainiac, played by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" star James Marsters (who played the vampire Spike). You'll be seeing more of him as "Smallville" focuses on the legend surrounding the Man of Steel. I hope the focus doesn't change.

Apparently Tom is going to be interviewed tomorrow morning by a couple of radio stations, one in Chicago the other in L.A. I assume he will be talking about Arrival and the season to come.

It sounds like the reviewer wasn't too happy with the witch/stones plot line either (which I've discussed and thought was brilliant, but to each his own) but the fact that he thinks the preem is setting things aright will no doubt make all the Lanabel haters out there rejoice...

No, I meant my review. I do episode reviews for kryptonsite, I thought that's what you were talking about.

The show still preems on thursday...

It usually takes me about a day to write it and Craig doesn't always get them up before Saturday and that's when it was on Wednesdays last season.

So, I want to try to get them up sooner this year and still make it by Saturdays, if possible, but we'll see how it goes.

I saw one guy do a review of Blank, and honest to goodness he was so damn picky that I couldnt understand why he was reviewing a Smallville episode and posting it on a Smallville website.

I'm not sure if its the guy you're speaking of Brainiac but he was so damn technical that I thought it was beyond ridiculous. I just think some of these reviewers, and Triplet is definitely not one of them, need to realise that Smallville is a fantasy fictional TV show.

I've rambled a bit, but to those who havent read Triplet's reviews she does a really fair and great job of them, and points out things that you dont often see as a viewer.

It could be, he picks apart very strange things out of the show and get very technical, in a negetive way, that sometimes he gets a little over the top. I think he may forget that it is a fantasy show, like you said.

He did point out on two or three episodes that you can see mountains in the backround, it was kinda funny. But if he likes an episode he will praise it above all things though.

Well, Neal and I have vastly different styles and I'm pretty sure he does not come from the same place I do when reviewing.

I review the show cause I love it, he seemingly barely tolerates it for existing....

Meh... to each his own. A lot of people love his reviews and find them funny, I don't particularly.

I used to also read the episode recaps on Television Withtout Pity, but I don't go out of my way to read those anymore... They tend to be really long.

There are a lot of fan reviews done on tv.com, btw. If you want to read more reviews you should check there, once the episode airs.

Last season left most of the characters in jeopardy as a meteor shower rained down on Smallville. While a meteor crashed into the Kent's house, Lana saw a spaceship in a crater and watched as it started to open, and Lex, on the hunt for the stones, took Chloe to the caves. Chloe was able to stop Lex from seeing Clark in a blaze of white light, but she got caught in the fallout when Clark was transported to someplace with a whole bunch of snow.

As season five begins, Lana sees two beings emerge from the spaceship. She tries to run, but they confront her and demand to know where Kal-El is. Meanwhile, Lois arrives at the Kent's house and helps Jonathan dig through the wreckage looking for Martha. They find her, but she's barely alive. And at the caves, Lex wakes up to find Chloe gone, but something else of interest catches his attention.

In Alaska, Clark throws the artifact into the snow, and the Fortress of Solitude emerges from the ground. He enters the structure and is told by Jor-El that "a dark force from Krypton has been awakened, and its sights are set on Earth." He tells Clark he must study with diligence, because it is the only way to save the planet.

However, just as Clark begins his training, a nearly frozen Chloe finds her way into the Fortress. Clark knows he has to save her, but Jor-El tells him he must be back before the sun sets. Clark makes the promise he will return on time. However, as Clark races to save those he loves and heads toward Smallville, he soon discovers that keeping his promise to Jor-El may be more difficult than he thought.

Revelations and a new villain

With some major revelations, an increase in the tension between Clark and Lex and a new villain on the horizon, Smallville's season-five premiere was well worth the wait. The WB promises "everything you've waited four seasons to see ... will happen." And it just might, based on where this first episode of the season is taking us.

"Arrival" works on several levels, particularly in strengthening the bonds between some of the characters and pushing farther apart the eroding relationship between Lex and Clark. The Superman mythology also gets touched on as Clark finally makes it to the Fortress of Solitude, which in design is very reminiscent of the Superman movies with Christopher Reeve.

While the plot involving the Kryptonians and their search for Kal-El has little depth, it's quite obviously a setup for something to come. Still, it's a weak device that could have been better incorporated into the story.

However, what does work nicely are any moments that involve Michael Rosenbaum and his increasingly complex portrayal of Lex. We see his descent into evil and Clark's part in that journey. It colors the hero as well as the villain. Also, Kristin Kreuk as Lana is particularly good in the episode. Her own character's progression into the mythology of Smallville last season was fascinating, and in "Arrival" the mix of terror and bravery continued to build on that depth of character.

It's going to be quite a year for Smallville fans, who at the end of "Arrival" will finally get a glimpse of James Marsters as Brainiac. The character will appear in several episodes this year, becoming a major new villain. In addition, look for Aquaman to steal Lois' heart at some point this season.

http://www.scifi.com/sfw/issue440/screen2.html

Awesome!

So, Jor-El is going to teach him how to save earth, eh? Well, its not the 12 years tutelage that was in Superman: The Movie, but hey! Twelve years is a lot more to carry on the show without seeing Superman. I can see how this season will be "Superman in training" like Gough said. Can't wait!

Just got throught listening to Tom on the radio. What an adorable man!!! I have no technical abilities so I couldn't capture, but it was well worth the whole 5 min little blurb. It'll be out on podcast this evening for those who want to listen.

They mostly talked about the show, but no new info. They did ask him about imdb bio blurb where he supposedly saved a woman from a mugger. He said it was actually him wearing the purse and a woman saved him from a mugger....heehee. Lots of other cutsie stuff that us girlies will swoon over. He was very careful not to mention his wife and to correct them on the fact that Clark not himself would be happy for the Lana/Clark thing happening. I don't think they knew he was married because of a couple of comments about Kristen. He was very gracious and humble about his fans and even said that he was the one sending in all the emails to the radio station about himself.
Anyway, on cloud nine now, but thought I should share.http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/love/love0058.gif

What a geek. I actually took a portable radio and headphones with me to work in case I didn't hear it during my drive in, which I didn't (Tom wasn't on until 9:15). So between patients, I was standing by the windows (the only place I could get radio reception) trying to listen.
I did catch it though... Tom was charming as usual, and very funny. Eric is usually pretty amusing, but Kathy gets on my nerves. I thought it seemed odd that when asked if he lived alone, he said it was just "me and my dog." It's not like it's a secret that he's married. Maybe there's trouble in paradise, or maybe he just misunderstood the question to be who was home at the moment? I LOL'd when he said that he had just sent all the fan emails in that morning. :)

I'll have to listen to them on Friday morning again to see if they mention actually watching SV the night before or not. The station was running quite a few WB commercials, including a SV one with some spoiler dialogue. All I can remember is Lex yelling at someone that "this was all a set-up" and Lana saying in a very playful manner, "Clark.. you talk to much."

Another thanks to James for posting it.. It's nice to be able to listen to it without being in a rush or contorting my body to get a radio signal. ;)

In the first review they make it sound like SV didnt progress as planned over the 4th season. I wonder just how much Chris Reeve impacted the season.

It's possible Reeve had an integral part in season 4's arc, even if it would have been just one episode. Margot Kidder would have returned and therefore Bridget Crosby probably wouldn't have been killed off like she was. Who knows how the latter half of the season could have gone, but I'm still happy with what we got. Most likely we wouldn't have gotten filler episodes like Krypto and the Lucy eppy.

Btw can someone remind me how Clark got the octagonal key back from Swann?

I'm not totally sure, but I think she was brought on because of Chris's death. She was written off because she's nuts and wanted more money. She thought they were exploiting his death for ratings when actually they just really needed a way to complete his story line respectfully.

I do agree with you however that that is part of the reason for all the filler fluff episodes. I think they had to scramble to rewrite the remainder of the season so that it made sense.

Kidder made her first appearance in Season 4's premiere, that was months before Chris' death. So she wasn't brought on just because of his death.

She was brought on because Chris had other committments and couldn't spare the time to fly out to Vancouver.

She did all her work at once in the middle of september last year, which was about a month before Chris Reeve died...

I think that vortex is for the Phantom Zone, like people were saying (and unlike what I first thought), but I was wondering why it was in Lex's study and not at Fort Ryan like the spoilers.

But I think this image probably proves that it is the entrance to the Phantom Zone.

They musta moved the Fort Ryan scenes to the mansion for some reason... The vortex bit must happen after this...

Maybe they scrapped the idea of Lois luring them away. Makes more sense for Lana to be in the scene then since she's already staying there.

That's probably it, but they were also already over budget so they might have rewritten to include a standing set: it's cheaper than building a new one or going on location.

AICN finally shows some love to Smallville:

[spoilers in the review]
Herc Quite Enjoys Tonight's
SMALLVILLE Season Premiere!!
I am – Hercules!!
I kind got fed up with “Smallville” and stopped watching early last season when Chloe Sullivan survived a cliffhanger explosion and Lionel Luthor dodged the gas chamber and Lex was suddenly friends with Clark again, and Clark was squandering his free time playing football against humans, and Lana somehow was the one American who stumbled upon some Old World Kryptonian relics. It just got to be too much for me.
The good news for me and those like me? You don’t have to have seen any part of season four to enjoy the season-five opener. It does a swell job of catching you up on who now knows Clark is Superboy, what Chloe is doing at the North Pole, where the Lex-Clark relationship stands, and any other questions that might niggle at you.
(Although – because I saw a few early episodes of season four – I am still a little curious as to how they explained the coincidence of Clark’s Smallville classmate, Lana, being the individual who happens to come upon Europe’s Kryptonian artifacts. Not curious enough to buy or watch the season-four DVD set, mind you, but curious enough to let the talkbackers catch me up if they’ve a mind to.)
From this point forward, do take that main-page spoiler warning-box seriously, because …
With this fifth-season premiere, the show suddenly and gratifyingly embraces the goofy 1978 special-effects iconography of Richard Donner’s 1978 “Superman” movie. While Clark’s birth-dad Jor-El has always been portrayed as kinda an evil presence in “Smallville” (his voice is provided by the great Terrence Stamp, who played supervillain Zod in the Donner movie), the Fortress of Solitude is reintroduced in 5.1, and looks EXACTLY like it did in the Marlon Brando movie. The Phantom Zone returns as well, and we again get to see the faces of agonized individuals pressed up against that spinning, floating geometric space-jail window. It’s all an excuse to recreate the weird ‘70s special effects with dramatic computer-generated imagery, and it’s great fun.
Clark does not tonight fly out of his new fortress as he does in the movie. Nor does he don the blue tights. But there are arrogant Kryptonian villains dressed in black wreaking small-town havoc. And we again get to hear a little bit of John Williams’ always-welcome “Superman” movie theme.
I’m inclined to believe these nods to Donner have something to do with the fact that Bryan Singer’s upcoming “Superman Returns” feature adheres so strongly to visual elements introduced in the 1978 feature. At this year’s Comic Con in San Diego, we heard Singer tell the thousands gathered that he and the producers of “Smallville” were sharing information about their respective projects. It seemed odd at the time, because the TV continuity and the movie continuity don’t – and can’t -really match up, but Singer’s comments do make more sense after you’ve seen both the “Superman Returns” footage screened at Comic Con and “Smallville” 5.1.
Lois Lane is now a regular character, with E.N. Durance’s pretty face newly wedged between those of Michael Rosenbaum and Allison Mack in the main title sequence.
We learn in the credits – the ones subsequent to the “Somebody Save Me” song - that “Buffy” vet James Marsters, who embodies the evil living computer Brainiac this season, appears in tonight’s opener, but I wish someone had arranged to reposition his credit to show’s end – or eliminate it entirely. Marsters’ is not a speaking part this week, and he only appears in the episode’s closing seconds. His nifty entrance would have had far more impact if we weren’t anticipating him all episode.
Herc’s rating for “Smallville” 5.1?

Phantom zone, amazing. Also the Lois scene was meant for comedic relief because if it's not evident enough- tonight's episode will probably be the most serious SMALLVILLE ever. Remember what happened where we last left off, the after effects of such a meteor shower is going to be dramatic and some parts maybe even depressing. Thus, to have fights, comedy and phantom zone is going to be the things that liven it up.

Aw, it's gone now...

It was right on the main page on the right hand side above the links to specific news stories...

I watched it several times last night...

I'll see if I can paraphrase what they said:

Clark: How long have you known?

Chloe: I've suspected for a long time, there have been too many quick exits and miraculous recoveries... But I didn't find out for sure until I watched you catch a car like it was a beach ball.

Clark: Why didn't you say anything?

Chloe: (this was longer, but I can't remember what else she said) I wanted you to tell me on your own terms.

(then there wa a bit in here about not telling anyone and loose lips sinking ships or something... and her having sunk her own flotilla...)

Clark: You're a good friend, Chloe.

Chloe: I could have been a better one.

(I'm fuzzy on this part...)

Clark: I wanted to tell you for so long...

Chloe: I won't tell anyone Clark. Your secret will never pass my lips. (pause) Does Lana know.

Clark: No.

Chloe: Don't worry, I won't be the iceburg to your Titanic... But I still got some blank spots. Like how did we get transported to the North Pole and what exactly happened in that 40 story igloo?

Which is where that other clip picked up, the clip stopped after clark told Chloe about being born in another galaxy....

I hope this is helpful...

Review from Eclipse Magazine.
(with a few NEW spoilers, so beware)

This is it, we are promised: the season of 'Smallville' [The WB, 8 p.m.] where Lex Luthor makes the decision to go down the wrong path, while Clark Kent [Tom Welling] begins to learn that he has a responsibility to the whole planet! Despite the continued presence of Lois Lane [Erica Durance], the season premiere, 'Arrival,' fairly crackles with the energy of a series that has regained its focus.

In season four, 'Smallville' got mauling, wacky, campy and, overall, boring. Whether it was the 'Evil Charmed Ones' episode, or the introduction of Jane Seymour as a murderous, blackmailing *****, the show fairly pole-vaulted over the proverbial shark. As the season wore on, and the continued high-profile presence of Lois Lane deepened the need for one heckuva Big Red Reset Button, it got harder and harder to buy into the 'Superman-in-training' premise of the show.

Then came the season finale – the murderous Seymour and her hellspawn son [Jensen Ackles, now rocking the joint in fellow WB series 'Supernatural'], were gone; all traces of the 'Charmsville/Smarmsville' had been dealt with – and there was one big honkin' meteor shower, putting everyone of our series regulars in harm's way.

'Arrival' opens with Clark arriving [!] at the North Pole and flinging a certain crystal to the ice hundreds of yards away. In the sequence, which references Jeff East's similar scene in 'Superman: The Motion Picture,' we get to watch the familiar form of the Fortress of Solitude grow from the very ice. Inside the ice palace, a crystal disengages from a bank of similar crystals and floats into his hand. The Voice of Jor-El informs him that he must be trained if he is to save his foster homeworld.

In rapid succession, 'Arrival' deals with all of the season four cliffhangers: Lois finds Jonathan Kent [John Schneider] going through the wreckage of the Kent farmhouse, looking for Martha [Annette O'Toole], and pitches in to find her; Lana Lang [Kristin Kreuk] sees two oddly dressed people emerge from a spaceship in a crater, and they ask her where Kal-el is; Chloe Sullivan [Alison Mack] finds herself out of the cave, but in the Arctic – looking at a very strange building that is apparently made of ice; Lex [Michael Rosenbaum] regains consciousness in the cave to find Chloe gone, and eventually finds the badly injured Lana limping away from the crater...

The two aliens [Alana De La Garza and Leonard Roberts] are, of course, Kryptonians – and they want Kal-el to join them in making Earth a Kryptonian utopia. Their encounters with Lana, the local police and the people in Smallville's hospital show us that they are definitely evil. In a curious scene at the Luthor mansion, Lana is told, by a very creepy Lionel Luthor [John Glover, at his very best], that their only weakness is their home – which leads to a failed trap and a showdown.

Somehow, the script, by Todd Slavkin and Darren swimmer, manages to balance all the plot threads begun in the fourth season finale and weave them through to a most unexpected and eerie finale scene. There are other references to the 'Superman' canon that come as a surprise to the unspoiled – I won't say what they are so you can enjoy them completely – and that final scene comes as a bit of a surprise, as well.

'Arrival' is not perfect, by any stretch. The continued presence of Lois Lane, well before Clark is to meet her for the first time [at the Daily Planet], remains irksome, though the character is well played by Durance. Also, the feat of keeping all those plot threads in the air means that the episode is paced a bit too frantically – quiet moments are few and far between. Of those, an exchange between Chloe and Clark works the best, while one between Lex and Chloe, important as it is to the overall season arc, seems rushed.

Is 'Smallville' back on track? One episode isn't enough to really make that call, but the groundwork is definitely being laid for that to be the case – which is good for the show as it opens in one of the most hotly contested timeslots in primetime. Now all the show's creative team has to do is follow through.

My buddy Venom said he couldn't see the ad using Firefox, but could once he switched to IE...I tried in IE, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera ... hmm, I may have too many browsers. Anyway, all I'm getting is an ad for FIFA.

Maybe someone could post the link that's on the ad? If we have the link we can (theoretically) see whatever the link leads to. :D

There's some macromedia type animations with flashes of people's faces, and then this is the final frame once that introductory part is over:

Things that I didnt like about this Premier and take underconsideration that I love SV:

1. How the Fortress was created: It was 2 fast and then Clarks goes in and boom he is in the main chamber.

2. They used actual footage of Superman the Movie: Not verry original, u could see the ppl falling from the kryptonian buildings and the StarShip OHHHH GOD THE STARSHIP :( Whyyyyy? Whyyyyy? :( I dint like it when Singer used it and I dont like it now. TOTALY UN ORIGINAL.

3. The Kryptonians: How the heck do we now that one of them is named Nam-Ek and the other Ahrtyr or what ever her name was???? It was not even mentiond. Character development went down the toilet with that one.

4.My God Lana should be dead  she fell from the sky and was bangd pluse she took a mayor hit from the Kryptonians but she seems to be OK???? her next sceen in the series should be in a freeking wheelchair for at least half a season. I can take the Lex flying arownd cause he is a man but Lana??

5.How Clark lost his powers: I didnt like that at all. I was more in the lines of Clark returning to the Fortress and saying to Jor-El "OK I took care of the guys so now Please Make me normal" and Jor-El saying "Ok Son but u will have to suffer the consecuences" that would have been cool but "ouch" im cut ? I liked it, a lot. Braniac at the end was really good, I liked how they had him as the hitchhiker, and having the computer piecesput him together.

Lois was handled awesomly, as was Chloe and Lex.

I hope we see those two Kryptonians again, and maybe Zod, but Aquaman and Braniac will be terrific DCU characters to see this season.

I agree with both points.

Not cool

in conclusion They tried to cramp 2 many things in one episode and hey faild

man someones's in M, B, & C mode tonight judging by your "blow by blow" account of the episode....

1. How much time did you really want them to spend on it? It shot up from the ground, and Clark walked in. They spent more time on it here than they ever did in Superman the movie.

2. Why is using footage from Superman the movie a bad thing? It's not like it was interspersed as actual footage, it was shown on that screen that Clark was looking at. It's called a homage man, they didnt do that because they were lazy. I'm not sure either how you can say "yo didnt like it when Singer did it" since you havent seen a thing he's done yet?

3. Did anyone ever call them Nam EK or Aethyr on the show? No. The only places those names were ever seen was on the script pages that K-Site took the spoilers from. It's not a lack of character development at all since their names were irrelevant to the plot.

4. She's laid up in a hospital bed which usually mean your worse off than you are when your just in a wheelchair. What more did you want??

5. You scenario wouldve been totally out of character for the show since Clark was just starting to embrace his powers and destiny at the end of last season. I dont see the problem with the way it happened on the show, once again Clark chose the well being of others over himself regardless of consequences and that's a big part of who Superman is. It doesnt get anymore Superman that that.

Honestly, judging by your commentary you seemed to dislike the episode 5 minutes into it. Your entitled to your opinion and all but your complaints seem a bit misinformed and others just dont make any sense. I had to check the web address on my browser to make sure this wasnt K-Site after reading that rant.

I gotta find me a girl like that.

And the show was awesome. I can't wait for next week.

Was good, and like some have said, only wish the fight at the end with the Kryptonians was bigger and longer. And you know, could have used some more John Williams theme music in the episode.

And yes once again James/Spike/Brainiac comes to only make a WB show even Better! :D

What I liked about season Opener and take in mind that I love SV:

1. How the Fortress came to be was cool and Clarks face was priceless :D

2. Clark telling Chloe was awsome and Chloe's answer was again priceless

3.HOw the Kryptonian handeld Lex was cool

4 Lionel sceen was freeking cool: The ZOD part was again Priceless

5. The Phantom Zone lookd cool but untill the part where they fell in it where the rectangle came to be.

6. At first I tought that Clark had taken Chloe to Sv but when at the end she was actually in another contry that was cool and how Lex found her :D

7.The Black Ship and BRAINIAC was AWSOME and PRICELESS

Those are some of the things that I liked

Remember in the finale that the stone zapped Lionel. He now has all the Kryptonian knowledge. I think of him as like a Krypton librarian. I wonder if clark will ever use him as a resource and what Lex will do with him.

I liked it a lot. Anytime Kryptonian characters show up, the show usually delivers. i liked Clark's confession scene with Chloe. I loved seeing the Fortress of Solitude(and hearing subtle little music cues from the films).

Marsters as Braniac I understood but I think many viewers will go "Huh? Spike is on Smallville now?". I'm extremely skeptical about this whole thing though. It's either gonna suck massively or just be "okay". I can't imagine it being great though. We'll see what happens.

Smallville has about 3 solid weeks to wow me.

Day-um! That was just way too cool!

Acting was the best its ever been. They are all so amazing now. And jee-zus! Welling is spot on. He really nailed it. And OMG, did he look good!!!!

The new title credits were AWWWWWWESOME!!!! I won't be fast forwarding through them for a while. LOL

Chloe's line about "SuperClark" had me rolling. Hah! Perfect.

So Lana knows about Kryptonite, but she leaves ALL of it inside the safe? Now if I were her, I'd have a few pieces handy OUTSIDE the safe, just in case. Silly. :p

I know they were dreadfully over budget with this ep, but I would have liked to see a longer, slower creation for the FOS with more bass in the audio track. Make it *feel* as huge as it looks. I would have also preferred a more interesting fight sequence between Clark and the two Kryptonians. It was just too easy.

Hey, what happened to Clark's newly learned back flip?

Damn, that darn Key gets around, doesn't it? ;)

And that final scene with Braniac. Um... anybody here watch the X-Files? C'mon! I half expected Alex Krychek aka Rat Boy to pop out of the Black Oil LOL.

All in all though, a GREAT FREAKIN' EPISODE!! I can't wait till next week!!!!!! :D

I really liked when Clark ran out of the room and Chloe goes "whoa" or something, was hard to make out.

Welling's certainly starting to act very Supermanly and I'll be damned if his age isn't starting to show, no doubt on purpose. He looked a bit different in the hospital scene.

The new credits are great, very comic book, especially the end shot. :)

^Well that's says an awful lot.

I LOVED this episode. Even though I had seen all those scene clips, it was still thrilling to see them in their entirety.

I gotta say this first of all.. Tom did an amazing job in this entire episode. You could practically see the Supermanly vibes coming off of him. Even at the end, with his powers gone, the guy somehow manages to convey such strength and character.

Chloe said all the things I'd expect her to say, and all the things Clark needed to hear. AM does such a consistently wonderful job. The only thing I wanted to hear was her telling him that it was Alicia who revealed his abilities to her. But maybe this wasn't the time or place for that conversation.

How the heck did Lex know where to find her at the end??? He was damn creepy in that scene.

The Kryptonians were a little short-lived.. but with all the story they had to cram in only one hour (minus commercial time), it seems understandable. I liked the square Phantom Zone thingy.. a nice homage.

The scene with Lex confronting Clark in the house made me sad for the friendship that is lost. Lex knew Clark was lying and I think it pissed him off, but also broke his heart.

I'm thrilled to pieces to see the actually having Lana *do* something as opposed to being left behind whenever there's any action. And the Clana scene was wonderful to see. The two of them are so comfortable working with each other after all these years and it shows.

I'm excited to see more of the FOS. Since they made it from the old cave set, I wonder if they'll utilize it as much as they did the caves. I hope so, it was damn cool.

Brainiac.. since he didn't speak, he's still Spike to me. ;)

Oh, and the opening credits.. awesome! (except for Tom's goofy hair) :p

Is it next Thursday yet? :D

Great episode, finally a little bit of quality.

However, they did drop the ball at the climax of the episode. It was too simple and too easy. Clark pulls himself free, and only has to give our villains a little push each to send them flying into the FZ. I thought that was a little too easy, and very anticlimatic.

The rest of the epi was gold though

Episodes like this are why I watch Smallville! Zod, the Phantom Zone, Fortress of Solitude, Brainiac, evil Lex, Chloe knowing the secret, two more Kyrptonians (they'll be back, hopefully soon). F'in great! Only problem I had is how the hell do the Kent's pay for these medical bills, there's no way they can get medical insurance and they're constantly in the hospital.

man someones's in M, B, & C mode tonight judging by your "blow by blow" account of the episode....

1. How much time did you really want them to spend on it? It shot up from the ground, and Clark walked in. They spent more time on it here than they ever did in Superman the movie.

Are u really sure??? I think that in STM they took abit more time u can time it if u want. But dont take me wrong It lookd better than in the movie 100 time better but they could have maid it a more dramatic entrance. For Example: A big Door where Clark has to put his hand in it to be identifyd or something along those line to make it look more like in the comics or something

S Hulk for me Homage would be the Superman Theme Song or a cameo of one of the actors ala Chris Reeve , Margot Kidder, Terence Stamp ect.. ect..
But actuall footage from the movie is just a bit much and thats where I have the problem with SR cause they are doing the samething. And its true that I have not seen The Singer Movie but I have heard that Brando is goin to be in it and some more along those lines and I DONT LIKE. U can say that is a homage but I say Un-Original and yea it was lazy of their part since the even used one of the sceens from the StarShip Blasting away, and thats not even the ship that they used for the series. They could have done better

3. Did anyone ever call them Nam EK or Aethyr on the show? No. The only places those names were ever seen was on the script pages that K-Site took the spoilers from. It's not a lack of character development at all since their names were irrelevant to the plot.

All I can say is lack of Character Development. Here is why: Where is Kal-El? / He is not Kal-El / Oh The Key / U know where Kal-El is/ Oh its a Trap/ U must Join us Kal-El / If u Dont Join Us then goodbye/ AHHHHHH NNOOOOO
Thats It???
Come on??? U have to agree SHulk, that suckd :( I hate to Rant but it is the truth. At least they should have explain themselfs, make us feel who this guys where, something along those lines.

4. She's laid up in a hospital bed which usually mean your worse off than you are when your just in a wheelchair. What more did you want??

Take season 3 when the Horse hit her. That was cool cause she was in a coma for sometime and after that they fallowd up with the therapy episodes. And that was only a horse. But this is a Helicopter Crash + a Blow from one of the Kryptonians that sent her flying at least 10 feet in the air and I bet u that she is goin to be up and running in the next episode from what I hear in the Spoilers. Thats 2 much Way 2 Much. If they make Lana be in a Wheel chair for half a season then its ok but they are not goin to do that.

Ok we agree that he embodys Superman to perfection and they did write him good in those sceens. But embrace ??? He wants to be normal like the rest of us and u can see that in the last sceens where he is Happy that he dosent have the powers, so that sceen that I told u, would have been way better than the "ouch"

Honestly, judging by your commentary you seemed to dislike the episode 5 minutes into it. Your entitled to your opinion and all but your complaints seem a bit misinformed and others just dont make any sense. I had to check the web address on my browser to make sure this wasnt K-Site after reading that rant.

SHulk maybe I just expected a hold lot more and made a whole movie in my head and then boom it all fell down :( But what the heck SV is Back and Superman is Back (Tom Welling)

I am just going to guess that you don't know much about SR. It takes place after the events of Superman II. It will ignore Superman III and IV. Kinda like all the Highlander movies after the first, they should be ignored.

I thought tonights show was freaking perfect. Sadly, while I don't know for sure as I try to avoid the spoilers I think by the end of this season Lex will try to kill Chloe for not telling him what he wants. Good thing she is leaving town, so to speak.

Well I take that back, Clark should have punched the male kryptonian. Other than that I have no problems with the show and cannot wait until next week.
