hahaha, I'm not arguing that. Isaiah is treating NY like his personal "you know what."
I don't see anything good happening for the Knicks. I guarantee a Larry Brown notice of evac w/in 1,2 more seasons. :o sorry NY fans, but you know it's true.

I'm suprised Woody Paige still has a job. I remember like four years ago on Around the Horn when SI's Jackie Macullam a woman who reports on the NBA was debating something with Woody and he lost it and just snapped a sexist remark in the middle. There was like this akward ass silence during the show for like 5 seconds lol

Hahaha lmfao, sounds like Woody, I tell you for as much as I hate Skip Bayless, especially since I grew up reading his stupid columns for several year here in the bay area. He makes more sense than Paige more often than not.
Okay, I will give you that for financial reasons but as far as talent upgrade, that doesn't mean squat, talent vs. knowing how to play the game are two vastly different aspects of the game itself.
I agree as Marbury and Francis haven proven that. But itwould give me some hilights to watch besides Nate in the dunk contest

Hahaha. That would be the real ent. Forget the game. We can have Fight-night in the late 3rd quarter when the Knicks are down by two or three dozen and Larry Brown has been ejected. Can you see Channing Frye trying to break them up? NY fans are grimey. They'll want a fight to the death, and I'll catch it on sportscenter.:o

"Tracy McGrady told coach Jeff Van Gundy he was considering taking some games off and disappearing from public life.
"I told my coach that's how I felt -- that I really felt like leaving and not tell people where I was going, just getting away for a few days and just clearing my mind," McGrady said. TMac is getting just 19.4 PPG on 35% shooting in February. He's only shot over 50% in one of his past 13 games so his mind is definitely elsewhere. "I've dealt with family members passing away, best friends getting killed," he added. "This is a lot worse than that because it's a combination of things in different areas." He'll be in the starting lineup in Sunday's All-Star game." from rotoworld
wtf is that supposed to mean? he's becoming a hermit for a few days?

wtf is going on here?
"The Knicks might be able to offer the best package of young players such as Jamal Crawford, former Florida Gator Davis Lee, Trevor Ariza and Nate Robinson. The Nuggets, according to various reports, would send forward Nene' and point guard Earl Watson for Francis. They also might be trying to trade forward Kenyon Martin. Orlando Sentinel"
"The Seattle SuperSonics also have called about Francis, and might be offering point guard Luke Ridnour as part of a deal, the source said. Other teams rumored to be linked to Francis are the New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets. Orlando Sentinel"
"The Lakers aren't the only team interested in Francis. The Houston Rockets -- Francis' former team -- have picked up interest in the past few days to make a "dramatic move" with the Magic. Orlando Sentinel"
"The Lakers are "aggressively" pursuing a trade that would send forward Lamar Odom to the Magic for Francis in a multiplayer deal, NBA sources told the Orlando Sentinel today. Odom, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward, is an all-around player lost in Kobe Bryant's immense shadow with the Lakers. He was acquired in that megadeal involving Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat. Orlando Sentinel"
"Francis' agent, Jeff Fried, said today that the Magic haven't informed him that a trade was pending. The trade deadline is Thursday. "There's no change in Steve's situation that I'm aware of," he said. Asked whether Francis was resigned to being traded, Fried said, "No." Orlando Sentinel"
this time of the season can be really annoying with all the speculation and I thought no one wanted this guy

Nate won by one point, so had the judge kept that 10 instead of changing to a 9 we would've had a second tie and second dunk off, they gave it to N8 as a gift cause he's small. AI deserved that win tho.

Yes, and that was clearly evident when the Amare-less Phoenix Suns beat the Rockets 125-75 last night

You know that is a horrible thing to bring up, if the sports world went on stats entirely then Kobe is better than Jordan (81 single game) and Kareem is the best player of all time.
what are you talking about?
a player can't be measured on one game, so thus stats for one game will be factored but are not the same as being judged on season averages or career averages.
and i think you're talking about wilt, not kareem with his legendary 100.
also, i think kobe is a better scorer than jordan, though not a better player.

He didn't play college and has only been in the league for 2 years. When exactly was he supposed to do all this winning outside of high school?
He only won that MVP and rookie of the year because the NBA invested too much in him
The all-star MVP is nearly always debateable, but it seems to me he had the most outstanding performance on the winning team.
As far as ROY, the man went 21/6/6. There aren't too many veterans that can do that.
21/6/6 in his rookie year; 27/7/7 his 2nd season; and this year he's 31/7/7. I'd say that hype is being lived up to.
What more do you want from him?

I did mind seeing Nate win, but AI's last dunk in regulation had shady judging too. It was just too much.
the shady one was Moses Malone giving Nate 8's while everyone else gave him 9's.
Then giving Andre 10's after his dunks. That was blatant 6'er favortism.
But I'm glad Nate won... he was up to 20 dunk attempts at the end and still managed to make his last dunks.

And lets not front, Iggy was robbed I'm sorry I keep sayin saying this, but the judge who put down the 10 and then put back up a 9 on his final dunk was tripping and Barkley and Ernie spotted that, he only lost by one point. And I dont want even hear about Nate being robbed of points, that little Martin Lawrence looking mutha****er took like 20 attempts on 2 of his last dunks. If this was the old format he would have been eliminated in the semis.

I'll give little man props the dunk through the legs, the 360 and Spud was great but Iggy trumped him. That Dunk he caught from AI behind the backboard was ill. Do you know how hard and dangerous it is to pull that **** off? Nevermind hitting his head on the board, dude could have hurt himself bending his neck avoiding the board

I'm not taking anything away from Andre... he had some great dunks and that behind the backboard dunk was crazy....
It could have gone either way...... but they need to stop with this "rising stars" bull **** and get the superstars to participate again.
Also they need to bring it back to an 8 player format instead of 4. It looks so hollow.

Robbed? Moses Malone kept giving Nate 8's.... that old man was so biased he should have been wearing his old 6er jersey.
But yeah... they need to keep it at 3 attempts at the most. But then again it's not like AI got all his dunks in... at one point it took him like 5 attempts. I think it was after Nate did his alley oop over spud.

Yeah but some of Nate's Dunks were overratted. Jumping over Spud, so what, anyone remember the Olympics where Carter jumped over a 7 footer, in a game? Plus I hate gimick dunks, jumping up and tucking the ball under your leg two times, then throwing it off the backboard from 21 feet and dunking it, really isn't that impressive, it's just timing.

yes and I hated it, but you are right they are all gimicks, but I guess I just don't really care for over elaborate dunks that have no point to it.
I mean anyone can jump up and pass the ball under their legs, run over to the sidelines, take a shot of tequilla, bounce the ball off of david stern's head, do 5 jumping jacks , while throwing the ball up in the air, get 2 and 1 guys in to dribble down court with you then throw it off glass and dunk it.
I hate that kind of crap. Yes I agree it's something new, but something new and original isn't always better. But what about improving on old dunks?
I have still yet to see anyone dunk two balls at once in as many years since it's been done. I have yet to see anyone take off from (behind) the free throw line, while actually dribbling the ball. What about someone raising the rim to higher than 10 feet? I mean the one guy on the Globe Trotters can dunk on a 12 foot rim. What about trying a 360 behind the back? Or a 450? or 540?
I like to see new stuff and yes repeating old stuff does get boring if it is the same between the legs garbage but there are plenty of old dunks they can improve on and or plenty of new drunks to try, without bringing in a circus.
And as for Vince Participating again, a little hard to do when for one it's titled rising stars and there are only 4 participants. Plus even Kobe has said before, that the older you get the more it takes a toal on your body. Not saying that gets him off the hook, but it plays a factor.

That's not true..... not everyone can do these dunks..... if you can... hell more power to you. They seem like no big deal cause we're pretty much used to these guys doing it on a regular basis... but it should no way make it any less extraordinary.
I hate that kind of crap. Yes I agree it's something new, but something new and original isn't always better. But what about improving on old dunks?
that's all they do.. they do variations of the 360... the free throw line dunk.... the windmill...

lol.. if it was that easy to do some of those.. wouldn't we see more of them? Like I said... it looks easy to us cause we've seen sooo many dunks over the years (speaking for myself and some others) we kinda forget how tough it is to jump in the air, move the ball around and still manage to put it in the hole with style.
I like to see new stuff and yes repeating old stuff does get boring if it is the same between the legs garbage but there are plenty of old dunks they can improve on and or plenty of new drunks to try, without bringing in a circus.
What circus? Some of them bring in their teammates for assistance... the dunk Amare did last year where Nash bounced the ball off the head was cool.. no? But remember just how you think the between the legs is garbage.. someone else might be sick of seeing a 360 tomahawk or a windmill. It's preference.
And as for Vince Participating again, a little hard to do when for one it's titled rising stars and there are only 4 participants. Plus even Kobe has said before, that the older you get the more it takes a toal on your body. Not saying that gets him off the hook, but it plays a factor.
I don't buy that.... All-Star weekend is a chance to show off the best your league has to offer... THE BEST. These players shouldn't be complaining about the toll it takes on their body.. it's not EVERY week or every month... it's one weekend a year where they get to show off their talents... and None of them.. are guaranteed to be there every year. Stern loves to sell his product but if he really knew what the fans wanted.. he'd make it mandatory for Lebron, Kobe, Vince, T-mac.. all those guys to participate in as many events as possible.
No one complains about the 3 point shooting contest... that tires out all the same.

Exactly, they are not supossed to be easy to do. They are supossed to be difficult and challenging. But yes I do agree, we are a little jaded.

But remember just how you think the between the legs is garbage.. someone else might be sick of seeing a 360 tomahawk or a windmill. It's preference.
Cool? No, anyone that can dunk a basketball can pull that off, the guy on your local court that can dunk can do that. It is nothing impressive. As you said we have become a bit jaded from seeing so many spectacular drunks, that was not one of them. :down Creative yes, difficult? Far from it.

As you said earlier though, we assume it is so easy. It's not like the dunk contest is in the summer time after they have had a month or so to rest. Like you said, we assume it is easy to jump, move the ball, and twist your body then dunk it with consistency and accuracy. Shooting 25 balls in one minute does not take as much energy, is not as tiring nor does it create the same kind of impact on your body that dunking and landing does.
Maybe it's a cop out, maybe it isn't but like you said Stern is also to blame. I mean come on we start at the semi finals? What kind of crap is that?
Don't get me wrong, I would like to see Kobe, T-Mac, Vince, Richardson and others competing, but I don't think it should be mandatory. But I think this also goes back to how a lot of the old school atheletes feel in general about atheletes today. Most of them don't have any pride in the game or true love for it. They just want to get paid and get as much face time as possible.

it takes a lot of energy to shoot 25 balls in a minute... you feel it in your arms and legs... it doesn't seem like that big a deal but try it one day... I promise you you'll be winded. And yeah sure these guys are pros.. but it's still tough. But you're right it doesn't take the same kind of impact as a dunk... which is what makes the dunks so tough.
I dont' know.... I feel that these guys go to All-star weekend... they shouldn't have to be coaxed into participating. The fact that they got wade and lebron to participate in the skills challenge is a big improvement. I hope they can continue to add on more superstars to All-star saturdays.

it definitely is good practice though, i use to have a trainer do that with me when i was in high school because i wanted to improve my catch and release skills, and after going through that several times a day everyday, i got the hang of it, catch and release shots became very easy, and it improved my range quiet a bit also, and to this day i still can hit shots in catch and release situations

Steve Francis is headed to New York under a deal agreed to Wednesday by the Knicks and the Orlando Magic, ESPN.com has learned.
Francis
The teams agreed to a trade of Francis for Penny Hardaway and Trevor Ariza, two league sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN.com.
The trade was expected to be announced later Wednesday afternoon after being called in to the league office.
In New York, Francis will be paired with Stephon Marbury as the highest-paid backcourt duo in the NBA.
Ariza
Hardaway
The Knicks were still talking with several other clubs as team president Isiah Thomas worked at remaking a roster that has stumbled to the league's second-worst record, 15-37.
For the Magic, the trade will provide salary cap relief to a franchise that can now go further beneath the cap than any of the league's 30 teams in the summer of 2007 when a bumper crop of free agents will be on the market, giving Orlando several options in figuring out how to rebuild around 20-year-old power forward Dwight Howard.

2005-06 Power Rankings: Week 16
RANK (LAST WK) TEAM REC. COMMENT
1 (2) Mavericks 41-11 Since Kobe punked them for 62, Mavs have responded by going 23-4. Since Dampier became a sub, Mavs are 15-1 and have allowed 100 points just once.
2 (3) Pistons 42-9 Health and holding off Mavs and Spurs for home-court advantage are all that matter now. Unless you think Pistons have a 28-3 run in them.
3 (1) Spurs 40-12 Dismiss them at your own peril. As fragile as Spurs seem with Duncan and Manu at less than 100 percent, they're on pace to break the franchise record for wins (62).
4 (4) Suns 35-17 No joke: I think Suns can get to the Finals even without Stoudemire, assuming they get all the way to the West finals and let Mavs and Spurs beat each other up first.
5 (5) Nets 28-23 My favorite Nets fan, Sanford, is livid about Kidd's All-Star snub, with Jersey leading its division, but I bet Kidd benefits from a weekend off as much as anyone.
6 (6) Heat 33-20 Between now and April 1, Heat have only four games (out of 18) against teams with winning records. Let's see whether they can stay serious when the schedule is soft.
7 (7) Hornets 29-23 Logic tells you Paul's myriad injuries and rising expectations could cause young Hornets to crumble, but I'm gullible enough to believe in their Cinderella mojo.
8 (8) Clippers 30-21 The reward for being the best Clips ever? Mavs or Spurs in the first round unless they either pass Suns with all these moves they're making ... or drop a slot or two.
9 (11) Cavaliers 31-21 Cavs are just 13-11 without Hughes. But let's set the bar high for the All-Star Game MVP and demand no worse than a 19-11 finish from LBJ's Cavs to get to 50 wins.
10 (10) Pacers 26-23 What a difference a trade makes. Peja already has four 20-point games in his 5-2 start as a Pacer -- after zero 20-point games in the month of January.
11 (12) Grizzlies 29-23 Grizz return to work with the NBA's stingiest defense (87.7 ppg) and the first All-Star in club history (Pau). That's why they're giddier than your typical No. 7 seed.
12 (9) Nuggets 28-26 I don't see any 25-4 runs in their immediate future, but I'd bank on a big finish from a motivated 'Melo ... if rumor-weary Nuggets can regroup after the deadline.
13 (14) Bucks 27-25 Time to solidify their playoff position? Banged-up Bucks reconvened after the All-Star break with a full complement of players for the first time all season.
14 (13) Wizards 26-25 At least one problem solved: Arenas and rest of Wiz won't be pining for Hughes in the second half, knowing that Cavs won't have him, either.
15 (16) Kings 24-29 Credit where credit is due: Artest's arrival has Kings looking more likely to make a playoff push than anyone from No. 9 down in the West. So far, anyway.
16 (18) Lakers 26-26 This is a big reason Lakers spent so much money to get Phil back: Zenmeister teams are 14-for-14 all-time when it comes to making the playoffs.
17 (15) Rockets 22-31 The skeptic in me says that, even though Rockets are still mathematically in the playoff hunt, A-S weekend will prove to be the peak of T-Mac's nightmare season.
18 (21) 76ers 25-27 It's looking like a no-win stretch run. From where they are now, Sixers have to worry about missing the playoffs and the prospect of getting swept by Detroit in Round 1.
19 (19) Bulls 23-29 If the target is making a push for the No. 8 slot, Chicago's nightly target has to be triple digits. The last 20 times they were held under 100 points, Bulls are 2-18.
20 (17) Jazz 25-27 Boozer is finally back to help Kirilenko and Okur, but Jazz have to be wondering whether they were too hasty in parting with Mo Williams and a surging Kirk Snyder.
21 (20) Warriors 24-28 As if the NBA's longest playoff drought weren't enough -- 11 seasons and counting -- Warriors also have the longest All-Star drought now: none since Spree in 1997.
22 (22) Timberwolves 23-29 At just 4-8 with Ricky Davis, and after a 1-4 home stand, you can understand why Wolves are looking to swing one more deal before the trade buzzer.
23 (23) Raptors 20-33 Raps haven't exactly been Mav-like since surrendering Kobe's 81, but they're a decent 5-3 this month, with two OT defeats and last week's two-point loss in NYC.
24 (25) Hawks 16-34 He didn't get a Houston invite, but you'd have to agree that Joe Johnson -- with two game-winning shots and a triple-double -- is having an All-Star Feb. Wouldn't you?
25 (24) Celtics 20-32 Danny Ainge has said Celts are just a move or two away from East contention. I'm pretty sure he said so knowing that cloning Larry Bird is not an option.
26 (26) SuperSonics 20-33 The news just gets bleaker and bleaker in rainy Seattle: No team's winning percentage has fallen further since the end of last season than Sonics' .634 to .377.
27 (27) Magic 19-32 Magic can only hope they do manufacture a Francis trade this week because he won't become any less of a handful if he's stuck in Orlando past Thursday's deadline.
28 (29) Trail Blazers 18-33 I'll go out on a limb and guess that, given all the image problems in Portland in recent years, Rodman's claim that Blazers offered a tryout is probably a fabrication.
29 (30) Knicks 15-37 Probably no one remembers this now, with Knicks at 2-16 since Larry's 1,000th victory, but they were 6-0 in their first six games of 2006. Somehow.
30 (28) Bobcats 14-40 Don't want to make light of a car accident, but the news that Felton was injured during a weekend off is sadly no surprise in Bobcats' season of injury misery.

This thread has been busy. Lemme try to catch up...
Penny and Brian Hill are back in Orlando? ONly in the NBA.
Wilt had Jerry West, but no Baylor, for his only ring in 1972.
Russell, for every championship he won, played with either Cousy, Havlickek or Sam Jones
It's possible, but extremely difficult, for one person (alone) to led a team to the playoffs, let alone a championship. Nobody, NOBODY, wins a ring by themselves.
Tim Duncan is a great player, a certain HOF guy. He can make any team 'playoff contenders', but getting to the playoffs really doesn't mean alot unless you have the guns to really advance. Furthermore, 'playoff contender' doesn't mean you get in, it just means you're in the running. Shoot, the team in 10th place with 2 weeks left in the season is a 'playoff contender'.
NOFX, please calm down. When did conjecture and speculation lead to owning somebody? Duncan is extremely talented, but he's also been fortuntate always having a good surrounding cast. KG has never had the right pieces. He can and has certainly made guys better. However, they gotta bring something to the table to begin with.
