I dont' like how they advertise him as "Aquaman". He's just a kid, he ain't Aquaman. In Run, they didn't advertise with "The Flash" did they?

In the comic book world, Aquaman was born about two years before Kal-El landed on Earth. I am not too sure who is older due to the re-taling of Kal-El origin.

I don't think the episode is going to be bad at all, or corny. We have Lex doing outright evil things. And it does look like he is practically torturing Aquaman. I wonder if they will touch on A.C. being from Atlantis?

I think there will be some serious development in this episode so you shouldn't miss it.
If for no other reason, you should see it since Brainiac will be introduced formally in it.
Also, the tension between Clark and Lex will undoubtedly be kicked up a notch when he discovers his nefarious schemes in regard to what AC is there to investigate...
It looked great from the trailers too...

I think this episode should be a good one, Arthur is going to serve a purpose like Bart did, Bart helped show Clark that he can actually have fun with his powers and that they're not such a burden as Clark makes them out to be. Arthur is going to help Clark progress to being a hero outside of Smallville. Clark's character progressing, Lois Lane getting swept off her feet, intro of Marsters as Brainiac, Underwater fight, "super" Clark back, and an even more evil Lex. You kidding this episode sounds a lot better then Mortal if done right IMO
What the heck is Lana wearing in that picture. Thats one weird ass swimsuit... I guess she got tired of the 2 piece.

You know continuity was always there when it fitted into the storyline. However if something didnt have any impact on a current story then there was no need to show it.
Smallville doesnt run like a serial.
Remember at the end of Hidden, Clark said that he would have to cover where he was shot so people wouldnt ask questions, namely Lana as Chloe pointed out.
However, I do think they are covering their continuity bases more this year as that was something the fans were always screaming about.

Wellllll....I'd like to agree with this, but IMHO, they are not quite there yet with the continuity.
Clark was shot in the right upper pectoral area, and the bandage was on his left side under his ribs...That's a very weird trajectory for an exit wound..
 IF they wanted to be better on the continuity, they could have had Clark show the actual impact wound (or lack of it), but then he'd have had to take off his shirt again, and we just can't ruin the flow of the scene...(darn.. :) )

I thought that too.. it does seem to be pushing it. But you'd be surprised at how low the lungs can go in someone long bodied like he is. Perhaps the bullet hit a rib and it's course was deviated upwards. Yeah, that works. ;)

They said they will bring one more hero this season. My guess would be either Martian Man Hunter (desguised as human) or Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) since they don't have movies in development.
Though Green Lantern and Plastic Man (lol) may also be serious contenders since their movies are in development hell.
I would love to see an episode with Swamp Thing.

And after listening to the commentary for Spell and the homework that they did to ensure that the witches casted their spells in the correct manner, I'm more than confident that they did some research into this. I'm no medical expert but watched enough of ER in its early years to know that it is quite common for bullets to "tumble" through the body.
I mean everyone knows where they lungs are so I cant see them slipping up on something as simple as this.

Down, and to the left. Get it? The change in the quote was intentional.
I guess jokes aren't as funny if they have to be explained.
PS: Depending on the caliber, that bullet could have done all sorts of things upon entry. For example, .22's often ricochet off bones multiple times before coming to a stop. They can do more damage than a .44, which would pass clean though and out the other side.

(Now why isn't it obvious when I'm teasing?)
Depending on the caliber, that bullet could have done all sorts of things upon entry. For example, .22's often ricochet off bones multiple times before coming to a stop.No real velocity; even tough cartilage can stop them dead. But the gun angel boy was using looked like a 9mm. Saying that, where it hit would probably smash a rib or two ... a splintered rib would probably rip a lung to shreds.

No real velocity; even tough cartilage can stop them dead. But the gun angel boy was using looked like a 9mm. Saying that, where it hit would probably smash a rib or two ... a splintered rib would probably rip a lung to shreds.Hee! This is getting fun. Okay, the damage that a bullet does depends on a lot of things, but velocity isn't why a .22 rattles around in the body as it careens off bones and cartilage. Technically, .22's are one of the fastest bullets in common handguns. The rounds ricochet because they have less mass than larger caliber slugs and consequently don't have the force necessary to blow through things thicker than light cardboard. (I'm being facetious to make a point.) Newton's 2nd law: Force = mass x acceleration.
So just how fast IS a speeding bullet? A .22 centerfire cartridge travels at about 2400 - 3000 f.p.s. A .38 special only moves at about 600 f.p.s., which is considerably slower. But a .38 has more mass and by definition, leaves a bigger hole. A .45 will do about 900 f.p.s. and leave an exit hole the size of a silver dollar. So, if you're shot in the leg with a .45 for example, you'll be "okay" provided the round doesn't wipe out a femoral artery and you can't stop the bleeding. If you're shot in the leg with a .22, the bullet *could* ricochet off the femur and travel up through the body taking out a few vital organs in the process. I personally wouldn't want to be shot by either, but a .22 can be a lot more random in its trajectory through the body.

Hee! This is getting fun. Okay, the damage that a bullet does depends on a lot of things, but velocity isn't why a .22 rattles around in the body as it careens off bones and cartilage.Oops, velocity was the wrong word, you're right. Don't worry, sometimes I get head-spinny. ;) I meant what you said, which is basically a bullet's ability to "pack a punch" and not be stopped by whatever gets in the way.
Rifles have incredibly high velocity, but they also have a nasty habit of doing crazy things like careening down your arm and blowing off your hand after they've ricocheted off your collar bone ... don't worry *I* know what I mean even if me brain's too addled to say it properly. :p
I even had this conversation with someone after 'Relic' aired, and I didn't mix the words up that time. This guy was convinced that a. 38 wouldn't have killed Louise when it hit her in the shoulder ... the low velocity wouldn't have the power to do any serious damage, apparently. Yeah. A mass of arteries and a bullet with a good kick behind it. No danger there ...

I've got a question, we all know that Aquaman is pretty tough in the water but would he still match up with clarks powers even in the water?Short of using Kryptonite, he can't really *hurt* Clark, though he swims faster (apparently), and can launch Clark out of the water with a pulse wave. Between Lois and AC's meddling at LuthorCorp, the worse thing he'll probably be able to do is Re-Heeeely frustrate Clark. This is gonna be good. :D

I guess, but surely once Clark learns to fly he should be able to fly in water faster than Aquaman can swim. Not that this really matters. I wonder if Aquaman is going to have some kryptonite carp attack Clark in the water

In Superman the movie Superman flew through the center of the California earthquake fault, it seems like flying in water would be a lot easier than that.

In Adventure Comics #260 and subsequent Silver Age comics, it was revealed that Aquaman was Arthur Curry, the son of a human lighthouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lighthouse) keeper named Tom Curry and his mother Atlanna, an outcast from the lost continent of Atlantis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis). Due to this heritage, Aquaman soon discovered as a youth that he possessed various aquatic abilities, including the ability to survive underwater, communicate with sea life, and tremendous swimming abilities. Eventually, Arthur decided to use his talents to become the defender of the Earth's oceans and its inhabitants, starting a career as "Aquaboy." As Aquaboy, he eventually met Superboy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superboy) (Earth's only other superpowered superhero at the time) on one occasion (Superboy (volume 1) #171). Eventually, Arthur grew up and changed his name to "Aquaman."
It looks like they did meet early on in the comics, but this was during the silver age. It looks like the meeting is taken from here with a Smallville twist though.http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/icon14.gif http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hmm. Well now THIS is interesting. Considering LatinoReview's track record (they broke the story about Rufus' casting), I'm inclined to give them a little more latitude than I would AICN or DH...
In the hit TV show ENTOURAGE this year the show revolved around them filming a movie version of Aquaman, which was being directed by James Cameron. Now 'Washington Post' alerted us that DC Comics is doing a film version of the King of Atlantis. Below is the scoop, of course this is all rumors.
Can't say where this came from, but I think you'll find it interesting.
DC is doing a film version of "Aquaman" - and they may have already found him, without casting.
Alan Ritchson played the character on a recent episode of "Smallville", and according to someone involved in that film's development - they're seriously considering "using him".

After all my complaining about a lack of mainstream media attention for Smallville, we finally get a mention in USA Today's Critic's Corner as a "What to Watch!"
http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/criticscorner/2005-10-19-critics-corner_x.htm
What to watch Thursday night
• The competition in Thursday's opening prime-time slot continues to stiffen. I wouldn't dream of missing UPN's Everybody Hates Chris or ABC's Alias - which currently boasts a guest run by Angel's Amy Acker. But another Buffy/Angel alumnus might just force me to make room for Smallville (WB, tonight, 8 ET/PT): James Marsters, formerly known as Spike, now known as Brainiac. Plus, you get a special appearance by Aquaman, played by former American Idol contestant Alan Ritchson.

Maybe he has Directv and Tivo, you can record two shows at a time with that...
I record both Survivor and Smallville. Watch Smallville, then watch Survivor later, but keep Smallville for multiple viewings.
I don't know how I'd review without my Tivo... sometimes it takes more than one viewing to figure out what I think about a show. Especially if it's a so-so episode. And TiVo has tons better image quality than VCR (more lines of resolution).
I hate video tapes so much now I don't even have a VCR anymore. We had to upgrade all the kids old tapes to DVD.

That's one of the things that used to annoy me about the posters over there. They were basing things from what they remembered, obviously with only one viewing, and you knew they were just so wrong. But you couldnt argue the point.
Smallville can actually be quite complicated at times, and I think you need some multiple viewings, just to get it.

the great thing about bein in college and havin access to episodes is, I don't need to buy all 4 season boxsets at outrageously unaffordable prices.
i've always had the episodes on my computer, but they took up too much space. when season 1 and 2 boxsets dropped to just $20 each, i grabbed them in a heartbeat. Wow, this ep has me thinking about how great it would be if, next season, there was a 2-parter with Supes, Flash, and Aqua Man getting together to stop some big, evil Luthor plot. Just to see a hint of Clark working on a super hero team for the first time.

No ****, Sherlock. Still, it's funny. And vampires are a part of the DCU, so it makes sense to have an ep about them in Clark's road of discovery that leads him to becoming Superman. And hell, when vampires bite Kryptonians, they're instantly dusted, 'cause he's solar powered. Mabey they'll have that.

Okay, so how was that called for? I wasn't being mean, nor did I say the episode wasn't going to be really fun, nor did I say I wasn't going to watch it. I didn't say anything against James Marsters (whom I think is awesome), nor about the show Buffy (of which I am a big fan).
All I said was it was a pretty blatant nod to what James did before Smallville.

I saw one of those Christopher Reeve's tags at a neighbor's garage sale 2 months ago. They said they got it from a Reeve's website. I should've got one then. He was selling them for 6 bucks.
Good episode overall tonight. Aquaman I honestly started off not liking too much. His interaction with Lois seemed phony and forced to me but once he stopped talking to her and mostly talking to Clark and Lex, I liked him A LOT. Like, enough to want to see him pop up 4 or 5 times a season, enough.
Marsters as Dr. Fine? ehh..i'm mixed on it so far. I see nothing good or bad about it. He's just sort of there, right now. Marsters is a good actor but i'm not into the character yet. And I also realized tonight that Marsters walks funny lol. I always thought the way he walked on Buffy and Angel was some sort of "spike" walk or something but i guess he really walks like that. I don't know, maybe i'm the only one who thinks he walks funny.
Lots of cool Lex going evil junk tonight. Lois looked hot in her bikini. Another solid episode:up: . Best season of Smallville yet cotinues to surprise me.
next week i'm not too sure about. On the one hand i LOVE vampires and i love episodes where Lana turns into some kind of sexed up whore type character lol(ala that witch episode last season which was uber sexy) but on the other hand it looks like more kryptonite fueled filler freak of the week junk. It could go either way but I hope it's worth it.

This episode was amazing.
Aquaman and Clark made a great team, and they fit perfectly together in a scene. Watching it was almost like- this is Superman and Aquaman- not Tom Welling and the guy that's playing Aqua Man. I mean, it had that classic "something is going to happen (JLA)" vibe.
Also the whole usage of sea terms was kinda funny
Also the set design was awesome reminded me of a comic book, as well as a cartoon like vibe.
Then at the end, we've got the Lois and Clark moment. Which states that they will end up together and that they are becoming one- A+ to the costume department. Don't know who picked up on it but Clark was wearing Red, while Lois wore Blue in the scene- remind of something? Superman colors shared between the characters.

Also Lex is definitely evil. He was the same villain we got from Onyx, heck even his voice pattern was the same of "evil" Lex- which yes, an actor does look at those sorts of things. Good Lex has officially died in my book, this is now Luthor.
Clark and Lex have split apart in a MAJOR way which was awesome. I also loved the scene in which Clark practically said, "I know what you're about now and that will never change."
Professor Fine, great job with the dialouge and acting here- heck, I even found alot of what he said to be convincing. He has a way of manipulating the character as well as the audience, know wonder Clark begins to believe everything Fine says to him- he flat out believes what he says and that definitely comes out.
Overall, great episode and one of the best. Difficult deciding if I liked the Flash episode (great references to it in this ep) or the Aquaman ep.

I know ppl really wana see Lex evil right away, and I've beat this issue into the ground, but again, I think his good side has disappeared way too quickly since last season. In a matter of 6-7 episodes he's gone from half good/half evil to basically all evil, and when this is happening a little over four seasons into the show, the transformation seems rushed to me compared to how they've developed him up until now. Rosenbaum is awesome as usual, but when all of you say he's slowly but surely turning evil, I'm not seeing the slow part.
Other than that I thought it was a decent episode, although I wasn't a big fan of the actor playing AC. He seemed just like every other wooden pretty boy actor. He had his moments, but I didn't feel the chemistry at all between him and Lois and even him and Clark, at least not like the chemistry Bart had with Clark. Maybe it's because their commaradarie didn't come into play till the second half, and therefore felt rushed, I dunno. It probably sounds like I hated the episode but despite my qualms I enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't even realize Junior Lifehuard Association spelled out JLA until you guys mentioned it. This episode really made me wana see Bruce Wayne show up, but I know that'll never happen.

I don't know what they've done to the writing team (writer's steroids?), but they are definitely hitting it out of the ballpark this season.
The setup between Lois and A.C. was a little slow. That's okay though because it had a purpose. It let you actually get a chance to know those two characters a little better. Lois obviously is abrasive to anyone of the opposite sex and A.C. became more than just a passing meteor freak (yes, I know he's not one). It was a perfect setup for the ending which for me was full of warm Lois and Clark fuzzies.
Loved, loved, loved the JLA shoutout....funnier even still than the league reference from Bart. My hubby was half immersed in a Soduku puzzle and even his head shot up at that line.
Can't give enough kudos to Lex aka Michael. I'm beginning a true love hate relationship with this character. I love how they are showing the beginnings of his frustration with these super people that keep thwarting his evil plans. I also love how Clark is finally getting it that not everyone has good intentions. Poor Clark and next week his girlfriend becomes a fang wielding dominatrix. In any other universe it would be a fantasy come true for him. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/images/icons/icon12.gif
I am just amazed at how well this season is going so far. The quality has been truly astounding so far and I have no major complaints except for my local wb affiliate that for some reason didn't think we needed video feed for about 30% of episode. Still had the sound so I just made up pictures in my head.
Hope you all enjoyed as well.

This was a pretty good episode. There was a LOT to appreciate in the dialog. Lots of inside references ("entourage") and a few blatant ones ("super boy.") LMAO!!!
The eye candy in this episode was breathtaking. Durance is ridiculously sexy, Ritchson is exquisitely ripped, and Welling is still a freakin' HOUSE with legs. LOL That set pic of him and Kreuk is so misleading.
Was good to see the writers start to develop Lois' future character a bit. Her interest in AC wasn't so much based in the physical as much it was his desire to "save the world." Well, there ya go.
I was hoping Clark would have told Chloe the other super-powered non-Smallvillian was Bart. Would have loved to see her reaction to that, since Bart did show interest in her in Run.
Did Lex get a little emotional when Clark said he defended him? Rosie pulled off that non-verbal with aplomb!
The use of "bro" got a little irritating after a while. It reminded me of the FOTW in Kinetic.
Prof Fine is gonna be aye-freakin'-mazing. I can see it already. Bring on the head games; I'm there!!! :D

I cant believe anyone actually liked this episode. I couldnt wait for it, but the second I heard "AC" talk, it was over. They should hire actual actors, not American Idol rejects. I cant ever picture Aquaman saying "bro." The characterization of Aquaman sucked and while I love nods to the comic continuity, the comments in this episode were the point where your eyes are rolling. Too bad, cause all the episodes in season 5 so far have totally kicked ass. I'd consider this episode worthy of season 4, not 5. If this is how they are gonna do superhero guest spots, just dont do them at all. They should look at Run for how to do a superhero team-up ep and look at this one as how to judge if it sucks.

I don't get it. What did you expect him to be like? He lives in and around water. Being a navy spouse I've lived near a lot of beaches and the majority of the local surf mongers do speak that way and actually he was a lot more articulate.

Yeah I didn't like the bro thing about AC either. I hope they aren't seriously considering this guy to play Aquaman on the big screen because, unless he steps it up a notch, he won't even compare to the guys we have playing superheroes right now. I mean c'mon guys he may look like Aquaman but next to the seriously-improved Tom Welling and everyone else on the show he's not that good of an actor. Then again Tom and the others do have more experience, but still...

4 for 4 this season, another great episode! So much to like Aquaman rocked, JLA reference, Superboy, evil Lex working with the military, reference to Bart (too bad Chloe didn't realize the reference was to Bart), Lois and Clark moment at the end rocked, Marsters as fine as awesome and finally anyone notice Clark wearing a bandage where he got shot, nice continuity nod there. One thing though, what's with Supes future friends hitting on all Clark's friends, I'm almost worried about seeing Bruce cause he'd probably be looking to hook up with Lana.

One more try..
Lois wore that bikini like nobody's business. As a straight girl, I still say, "Wow!"
I thought Lois was a little.. uneven in this ep. Maybe I just don't really "get" the character yet. Did she really need to rip on the guy's breath minutes after he saved her life? Then she's falling over herself drooling for him.
I liked the partnership we saw between Clark and A.C. but I wasn't very impressed with Ritchson's acting. His big teeth were freaking me out a little too. He does have one damn impressive body though.. phyically, he was a perfect Aquaman. I wish they would have shown what Clark and A.C. did together to destroy Leviathan.
The JLA line was funny.. I squealed :).. and it's reminiscent of what Bart (Flash) said to Clark in Run. This ep was packed with nods to the mythos. A.C. called Clark "Superboy".. then told him to "stay Super" at the end. I thought the best line of the show was after Clark told A.C. to "stay out of trouble," and A.C. replied, "Get in some.." That exchange kinda summed up the point of this ep, IMO.
Lex.. I love watching this evil Lex unfold. I'm really glad they had that scene near the end where Clark asks him if he ever thinks about where his life is heading.. and Lex answers, "all the time." It's both sad and fascinating to watch him. MR is doing a great job.. lots of subtlety in his expressions and especially his eyes. You could see the hurt mixed with the defiance in that final scene with Clark.
How weird is it to see Marsters without his accent? It's like I kept straining to hear it... even though I know he's really an American. He was very smooth. I really look forward to seeing a lot more of him
Clark. Is. Superman. Okay, maybe he's not wearing the suit yet, but every shot of him just screams Superman. Maybe it's because they aren't trying to make Welling out to be a high school kid anymore.. or maybe it's just because he's owns this role so freakin' much.
Seriously.. people should be KICKING themselves.
I was looking forward to next week's ep..well, I guess I still am since I look forward to any new SV eps.. but I have to admit, the trailer has me a little concerned. No wonder KK wasn't thrilled about doing this ep.. she looked silly.

Seriously, I dont know why everyone is praising this episode. The dude who played Aquaman was a horrible actor that had no chemistry with anyone, especially Lois on screen. And the whole romance was completely forced. Why waist our time with that crap instead of actually flushing out the main part of the story?
Lex was great in his scene with Aquaman though and Marsters was Fine, pun intended. I hope his character really turns out, I like him as an actor, I know it was merely an into to him, but I was hoping for some more sinister crap from his end, even if it wasnt visable to Clark.
And there was like no pace to this episode, it seemed strung togeather with no climax.

I LOOOOOVED this episode...I might say maybe a tiny bit notch over "Run" because of the underwater fight, Clark being overprotective of Lois and just him and A.C. teaming up against Lex Luthor...
I too loved the JLA and entourage lines...

Seriously, I dont know why everyone is praising this episode. The dude who played Aquaman was a horrible actor that had no chemistry with anyone, especially Lois on screen. And the whole romance was completely forced. Why waist our time with that crap instead of actually flushing out the main part of the story?.
I bet you jump to the last page of the story don't you?

Lex was great in his scene with Aquaman though and Marsters was Fine, pun intended. I hope his character really turns out, I like him as an actor, I know it was merely an into to him, but I was hoping for some more sinister crap from his end, even if it wasnt visable to Clark.
And there was like no pace to this episode, it seemed strung togeather with no climax.
Bah.
I agree with several of your points DZ. The shaky acting and no chemistry especially. I think the climax could have been Clark and A.C. destroying the Leviathan together as Lex was trying to demo it to the bigwigs.. but we didn't see any of it.
I also thought the final loft scene with Clark and Lois was a little...much. We get it already..
That said, I still think there was much to like about this episode too. I didn't like it nearly as much as the previous 3, but I still enjoyed watching it and I'll probably watch it again.

Lex tortured AC because he called him a "tool", duh!!!
hehe. That was funny.
The season so far topples most of the eppys in the past seasons. Can't wait to see where they go this season, SOO many possibilities now that the FOS has been unfolded.
