what about the mega blocks line? Man Lego is taking a beating eh? I think thy do not have rights to Marvel lego, which sucks because the Mega Blocks line is terrible and who the heck wants a Venom mega fig?

As a huge fan of Legos, I'm very excited about this line.

LEGO has the rights to do SM movie sets, but nothing else.

These Batman legos will most likely be flesh tones since Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Spider-Man sets all have flesh tone pieces.

Lego has recently officially announced that it will be producing Batman product. See the official press release and images below. For the latest info, please visit our forum here >>>
Through an agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, LEGO Group acquires construction toy license for the classic Batman brand, inspired by the pages of DC Comics' comic books; Warner Bros. Animation's hit television series, The Batman; Warner Bros. Pictures' blockbuster feature film, Batman Begins, which debuted in theaters this past summer and any related theatrical releases or television programs that are produced during the period of this deal.

Beginning in April 2006, LEGO Group will introduce six Batman products featuring constructible play sets with strong vehicle focus, cool functionality, gadgets and a library of collectible mini-figures.

The LEGO Batman product line replicates the collectible craze the company created around its best-selling LEGO Harry Potter™ series - where sets are designed to be combined to further the storyline and role play opportunities.

"Our partnership with the LEGO brand on Harry Potter has been an extremely successful one and we are excited about building our relationship through Batman," said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President of Domestic Licensing, Global Toys, Publishing and Themed Entertainment for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "LEGO Group brings a wealth of creativity and quality to the products they produce and are uniquely positioned to meet the high level of expectations we have for Batman, one of our marquis brands."

LEGO Batman will be supported with TV, print and online ads, Web content, LEGO Club, targeted events, a model tour and retail promotions

i feel oddly happy that the hair piece i always said would be great for the joker ended up being used for him. The faces for looking good (i'm mainly interested in the fairly normal ones to use for other things) but ivy and two-face are a little weak. And the vehicles themselves rock (we'll let the cat-moped slide).... plus nameless goons! how can you say no to nameless goon toys!

Spidey-Bat
01-11-2006, 10:33 PM
I think Two Face is great. Very TNBA-ish. I'm not very pleased with Batman's cowl. Rather bulky. Hopefully that's just a prototype. Lego is supposedly doing sets for The Batman and the movies, so I hope those cowl designs are more slim. One thing I'm very happy with is the tommy guns Two Face has since Lego rarely makes modern/real weapons.

The minifigs look great. I can tell you guys the Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and Nightwing figs will be available on a Arkham Asylum set, that will be sold only on Lego's Shop at Home. the set features several cells for the villains. Some of them highly personalized, like Ivy's, which is filled with vines, or Scarecrow's, that has a bucket of straw. All and all, the set has 6 cells, all of them named accordibgly. It also features an abumlance/prison van, and a pretty macabre interrogation area.

Here's more info on the Arkham set
Yes, that's right, it's an Arkham set. Someone in another thread here at LoG posted a photo of the Harry Potter castle set as a potential inspiration for Arkham. Well you were spot-on. The Arkham set is built in a similar, modular fashion, but in dark, "Batman" style colors. Blacks, Dark Grays, Browns are the color palette of Arkham. Arkham comes with a "wrought iron" front gate and 3 buildings.

The center building is the largest, at 16 studs wide. It has the front door with an internal sliding "jail" door that you can use to block it. Above the door on the outside is a small trapdoor you can open that allows a rope to fall out. On the inside of the central building, the second floor contains 3 cells that are openable by a clever mechanism you operate with a lever on the side of the building. The prototype I saw had stickers on the cells that said "Riddler, Two-Face, and Penguin" ( I think) Hopefully there will be more stickers included with the set so you can put different names on the cells.

The other two buildings are only 8 studs wide and serve as "towers" of Arkham. On the inside, upper floor is the Scarecrow's cell. The outside of the building has a small "gargoyle" that looks remarkably like Scarecrow. If you push in the gargoyle, it knocks off the wall and door to Scarecrow's cell, allowing him to escape. Scarecrow has a barrel and some bales of "straw" in his cell. The lower level of this building has two large, curved, "wrought iron" elements that are held closed with a tile that has a lock printed on it. Looks like a cell for the Joker, perhaps?

The last small building piece contains a "glass" cell with "vine" stickers for... you guessed it. Poison Ivy! There were some LEGO plant elements inside the cell with her. The upper level of this building has a "restraining table" with some "tools" in the room... for interrogation, perhaps?

Also present in this set was Nightwing on his motorcycle, the Riddler, and an Arkham van that contains what looks like a medical restraining bed. You can put one of the villains with batcuffs inside the van for "prisoner transport"

And Finally, the UCS Batmobile set. This is a large set, probably was about 18" long. (I think) It was very detailed, had an opening cockpit. The "jet" in the rear had flame pieces attached, and would spin if you roll the batmobile forward. This will make an excellent display set.

No pics of it yet.

It think this is really great and all, even the mini figs surprisingly look great except for the Riddler and Batman, I can get over the weird hair pieces for other characters, but Riddlers Costume looks like it really is spandex, they should just do the regular green legs and bodies and put white or black gloves and than a western hat green with a purple question mark, is it to hard to ask for?

Show me what you saw earlier. I can probably debunk it as official or not.

The cowl for Batman may not be the final product anyway. To be honest, his cowl is the only awful thing. The line isn't a one time thing anyway so we'll definately get more figures and sets. So there's a chance you'll get every version of your favorite boring character.

Forgot about that. I'll look into why the design was changed.

EDIT: I saw on LOG that a designer who worked on it stated the plastic has to be a certain thickness otherwise it'd break. So I'm guessing the cowl was made bigger because the ears were fragile and it'd look weird if the ears were big but the rest of the cowl small.

Just saw this over at Eurobricks:

As a seperate issue, BTW, Icedrake - there is NO GCPD or Batsignal planned at this time, like I've seen rumored (by you) on another site. That's just speculation & rumor = Bull Megablok. It was SUGGESTED while we were in Enfield - but nothing was put together and I'm sure nothing would be ready to go at this stage in the game.

Sorry I had to say that, but c'mon - I was there. I know what I saw.

Don't know who "Icedrake" is, but it looks like there isn't a Gotham Police Departmetn set coming out yet.

I recall reading it somewhere a GCPD set was gonna come out but they delayed it to make a Batsignal. May have just been the designer on LOG stating a pipe dream.

Odd, IceDrake is often my username at other forum sites but I've never heard of that site.

Now that I think about it, it might be some loser from LoG. I was IceDrake there and got banned for direct-linking pics on their site here.

Commissioner Gordon is also on our "to do" list, but was left out for 2 reasons. We couldn't get the Batsignal to work and we need to figure out a way of doing a cool looking trenchcoat. Maybe some of you have some ideas?

Now that I think about it, it might be some loser from LoG. I was IceDrake there and got banned for direct-linking pics on their site here.

Wait - who's the loser? Icedrake or the guy from log? I'm confused.

The guy from LoG. LoG is a pretty awful forum. 100% of the people love THE BATMAN. I say 100% b/c everyone who hates it is banned.

I have some pics to post. I'll post them later, there's some editing that needs to be done.

EDIT: ImageShack isn't working and the Photobucket would just decrease the size of the pics so I'll try later.

What are the pics of? Are they something we haven't seen elsewhere?

They're just clearer pics of all the sets and a new pic of the Batcave.

EDIT: I got the Batcave picture up. The other 2 are too big to go up on ImageShack.

Here are alternate models for some sets.

Alternate Batboat from Batboat and Croc set

Alternate Batmobile from Batmobile and Two-Face set (I like this more than the actual one)

Alternate Dragster from Dragster and Catwoman set

Alternate Joker Place from Joker Copter and Batwing set

As you can tell, they're all from my "favorite" site.

If batman's mask is so bulky due to safety requirements, does that mean that the old Lego helmets from the 80s would no longer pass modern safety requirements?

http://www.1000steine.com/~brickset/images/6844-1.jpghttp://www.1000steine.com/~brickset/images/6822-1.jpg*

Because the Bat-cowls seem way bulkier (i.e. thicker) than that - much more than they need to be in my view.

* Yes, I owned both these sets.

Spidey - I've seen those pics already. Why repost them here? Why don't you post something new - something we haven't seen yet?

It's not due to safety requirements.

Note the " " around the word favorite.

It's thick b/c the ears on the helmet would be very brittle if it was thinner.

The pics were not posted here before, so I posted them for other people to see. This thread isn't just to serve you.

I would post more but there is nothing else as of now. The Arkham Asylum set has not been released. The NY Toyfair is coming up so we should see some more. BTW, I'm not the only one who can find pictures to post them.

That Bat-Cowl is just horribly, horribly designed. Surely they could have come up with something better than that.

It's supposed to be sturdy, it are kids toys.
If they would have made it thinner it wouldn 't last.
But they could have gone with another "premasked" head.

It's not a bad design. It's just big which is due to safety reasons. If it was any smaller, it'd break.

I got back from the Lego store nearby and picked these up. The cowl looks MUCH better when you have it in your hand.

I didn't make it. I like the batman forever batmobile so much that I made a lego computer aided design of it and a real life model

Oh, and all you C3 mourners can rejoice:
http://toynewsi.com/article.php?itemid=9242

Incidentally, last weekend I finally got around to dismantling my C3 Batmobile and Mini-Flyers since all they do now is remind me of the BB and JLU sets we're never going to get. A few Lego pieces, four Mini-Flyer canopies and two DC Direct Pocket Super Heroes later, I've got me a nifty '66 TV Batmobile (even though scale-wise the wheelbase is shorter than the actual car, so the side striping is a bit off). Maybe one of these days I'll get around to linking some pics.
