Sounds cool. The name caught my eye since it's the title of one of my favorite albums of all time by My Bloody Valentine. Azzarello can write gritty like a mofo, and when you add that style to the "spaghetti western" genre, sounds like a match made in heaven (or hell, if you prefer). Kick-ace art, too!

What's disappointing is that we're given no references or clues as to the actual plot of the book, but I can deal with that because the concept itself is so spooge worthy.

The preview pages look good so far. And I'm glad that Marcelo Fruisin's art is looking pretty impressive. His last few issues of Hellblazer were pretty average.....

I haven't gotten my comics yet, but I would assume it was good if you felt the need to make an official thread on the first issue. So, what happened?
I haven't got my comics yet either but I have been looking forward to this.

if you're a fan of 100 bullets, you'll enjoy this. Azzerello is in top form, the art is very similar to Risso's, and Patricia Mulvihill is doing the colors
thus far, it's set in the days just after the civil war has ended, and discouraged confederate veterans are still at odds with the controlling Union soldiers

I'm not sure I get why this book is so highly anticipated beyond Azz's name, since I haven't been keeping up with much comic news. The first issue was pretty good, though. It would've been nice to see a different kind of art than just another would-be Risso with Azz's writing, but similarities in style notwithstanding, the art was decent. I'll be getitng the next issue.

Finally read it. Could done without the use of the N-Word, but, I suppose it added to the realism of what life was like at the time. Overall, good first ish. Definatly picking up the next one.

it's about a confederate veteran in the days after the civil war. I'd expect ALOT more use of that word in this series, Anubis

Yeah, thats what pretty much what I figured.
The Leaguer
11-01-2005, 03:03 PM
This was a great issue, although the twist (for lack of a better term) at the end was pretty predictable. I also felt like this was sort of a waste of an issue. While well-written, it just seemed overall unnecessary. All that really happened was that the main character introduced and all that was really conveyed is that he has a shady past, no one really likes him, including the army, and he loves his wife. Nevertheless, it was good, and I'll be sticking with it.

Read Loveless, issues looks like it's heading to a good start. Didn't know the setting was post-Civil war and your looking at the side of the confederates and what they lost and all. All in all, good issue i'll be picking up the next issue for sure.

Have you guys been reading Loveless? It's awesome! It's been one of the best reads ever. Does anyone know when the 5th comes out or how many they are making?
TheCorpulent1
02-16-2006, 05:34 PM
It's pretty good. I'm not entirely sure I understand everything that's going on, but Azzarello's one of those writers that likes to show you bits of the puzzle slowly until the image forms almost without your realizing near the end, so I guess it'll make more sense as I go. Loveless is published by DC's Vertigo imprint, though, so you might want to make your comments in the Loveless thread over there:

I bought the first few issues, but then dropped it. Mainly because I couldn't keep both Loveless and Jonah Hex, as Corp said, Azz's writing is really more condusive to TPB.

I enjoy Azzarello's writing on this book.
Azzerello also has a new book coming out in October under the Wildstorm imprint.
