I confess that about 20 years ago, my comics education was EXTREMELY limited. This was about the time I truthfully started collecting. I'd barely touched a comic since declaring myself too old for them at age 11, and I was really lost. I'd never heard of Bucky, Gwen Stacy, or a myriad of other characters or stories. Most of my familiarity with the universes came from what I'd seen years earlier in movies and on Saturday morning. I only vaguely knew about Secret Wars, had never heard of anything like Crisis On Infinite Earths, knew virtually nothing about Wolverine and thought that the Robin who'd perished in "Death In The Family" was Grayson. The Burton/Keaton project was my introduction to the Dark Knight, and had previously thought Batman to be the long-winded goofball of the TV series. As I got caught up over the next year or so, I found myself running with a lot of die-hard fans and I pretended to know a lot more than I did, just to be accepted.
I also want to confess that I am SICK of temps (as in actual people from a temp agency) and "loaners" (people who temporarily transfer from other departments) being brought onto my team at work. They seem to do more harm than good, I often find myself having to take time away from my work (hurting MY productivity) to train and/or supervise them, I often end up fixing their mistakes, the ones who are actually good tend to get reassigned quickly while the knuckleheads stay with us longer, and by the time they get up to speed-once they TRULY have the hang of the process, they're gone. And then we have to start all over again with a new batch of rookies. Add to this the ones I get that are complete dingbats. The latest 2 I truly think could screw up a glass of water.
