Something that has been bugging me lately is the fact that we have heard absolutely NOTHING I mean NOTHING on one of my favorite non-mutant characters Moira McTaggart since her casting in August (olivia Williams is playing her if anyone forgot.) So I decided to make a thread for everybodies fav Scot to get some info on her role in the movie, Muir Island, and anything on Olivia Williams. So any news?? share it!

Moira is one of my favorite characters from the X-comics, and i've wanted her in the series for some time, but i never really thought it would happen for some reason. and now tha it's going to happen - i feel so happy.

it's like so many of Claremont's prime storylines and characters are coming into fruition on the screen - he's almost like the god of this franchise. i love it so!

bring on Moira! and i hope they mention or show Muir Island.

Olivia is pretty hot, and she has the perfect look for Moira. I'm unfamiliar with her acting tho.

As far as the character goes, I am also stoked that she is gonna be in it.

I'm guessing she won't have any connection to Xavier other than being a colleague tho. I don't think they will be former lovers or anything, and I hope not. That'd be weird with Stewart's and Williams' age difference, and I just think it's also unneeded to the story.

I suspect that Moira will be a scientist that Xavier knows, and he and Beast use her to discover the effects of the mutant cure. I'm hoping that she's on her mutant research facility on Muir Island. If there's no Muir Island, a part of the experience will be killed for me. Muir Island kicks ass.

Moira might also be used to help Xavier discover more about Jean's evolution as well.

Her presence is definatley one part of the movie I am looking forward to.

The age difference was always there, and even onscreen I doubt people will be grossed out.If anything it will give us more of a look into the Prof's history and character.

I'm hoping just for some subtle signs that they have known each other for a long time.Just as long as a rel'p of some kind is evident,I'll be happy.Let the fans figure it out for themselves.

I think it would be cool if they featured some Morlocks on the island as residents, just like in the comics. They wouldn't have to say they're Morlocks, maybe just show a bunch of hideous mutants in the different rooms. As they walk by,Moira can explain to the Prof or Hank how these mutants were found living in the sewers.BOOM,done.That would be pure awesomeness.

Now I'm just getting greedy, but maybe some mention of a Sean Cassidy could pop up somewhere. That would be the icing on the cake, but I'm not going to hold my breathe for it.

Muir Isle
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/1303/muir9yo.gif

HISTORY AND BRIEF EXPLANATION
Since its inception, Muir isle, located off the northwestern crest of Scotland, has been the linchpin of the X-Men's support operations. Under the auspices of Dr. Moira MacTaggart and the European Cooperative of Biological Arts and Sciences, the generic research facility is recognized around the world as the primary information warehouse for mutant related studies. Unfortunatelt, the ever present prevalent state of human/mutant relations precludes any public affiliation between the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning and this organization.

Dr. MacTaggart has spent a lifetime concentrating her formidable intellect and resources on unlocking the key to genetic anomalies. Before its partial demolition and reconstruction, Muir Isle engaged in the study of many of the world's most powerful mutants. On occasion, and over the strenuous objections of Dr. MacTaggart, the complex has been used as a temporary holding facility for certain criminally inclined mutants.

The mercifully slow progression of the mutagenic deceleration disorder known as the Legacy Virus has become paramount to Dr. MacTaggart and her staff. Working closely with Henry McCoy (Beast), and Forge, everyone agrees that the first priority is discovering how the disease is spread among the mutant populace. Muir Isle is also heavily involved in the treatment of disease in the sincere hope that they can contain the genocidal aspects of the Legacy Virus before it mutates to a point capable of infecting homo sapiens.Source: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/4005/places/muir.html?200517

Most of u are thinking that Moria and Xavier are going to be nothing more then aquaintances in the film. But i'm thinking hey maybe more, Moria looks quite upset at the funeral scene in the trailer suggesting there might be more of a relationship between her and the x-men at least.

And from a script point of view, it make more sense to present the character with history and just introduce her without having to produce a formalised introduction in a film that will be short on time with so many characters (like what they've done with Beast)

I don't know about EW mentioning it but it's certainly just speculation on IGN's part (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/641/641846p1.html):

Finally, British actress Olivia Williams has been cast as Dr. Moira MacTaggert. The Marvel Database Project reminds us that, in the comics, the Nobel Prize-winning Moira was a former lover of Professor X's who ran a mutant research center on Muir Island in her native Scotland. She also also the mother of the mutant known as Proteus. Moira died after discovering a cure for a new strain of the Legacy virus.

Nevertheless, I still believe that their relationship will be touched upon.

newwaveboy87
12-18-2005, 04:04 PM
it has to be. that's the only explaination i can think of for Moira showing up at the Memorial scene.

former lover of Xaiver's, who knew his original students - Jean, Cyclops, Storm, and Beast.

Fair enough but you said it said it as fact that the IGN article points out that Xavier and Moira are former lovers in the film when they were just quoting a comic book origin of the character.

former lover of Xaiver's, who knew his original students - Jean, Cyclops, Storm, and Beast.

Not necessarily. She could still interact with the mutant community (and thus, to those who have taken it upon themselves to be their voice, the X-men) without being a former lover to Xavier.

newwaveboy87
12-18-2005, 04:47 PM
then why would she be at the memorial service if she's just a supporter of the mutant cause?

the article is old, i thought it said it was fact. forgive me lapse memory on that one.:p

N_z0

then why would she be at the memorial service if she's just a supporter of the mutant cause?

She doesn't have to be a former lover. She can just be a friend to Xavier and his X-men.

But i digress, as again i actually want her to have relationship with Xavier, current or otherwise, either in passing mention or in how they interact. But as have been done in the past, the ones in charge will always alter character relationships, histories to suit the movie.

the article is old, i thought it said it was fact. forgive me lapse memory on that one.:p

Among recent pleasures were a five-week trip to South Africa and Madagascar to film last night’s BBC One drama Krakatoa: The Last Days — “My biggest parenting shame to date”. Also due this month is X-Men 3, in which she plays the small (“but very important!”) role of Dr Moira McTaggart.

“It’s a weird thing, innit? Your LA agent rings you up and says the director of the new X-Men movie is a huge Rushmore fan and wants you in the film. And you’re sitting in London with your baby and they say they’ll fly you out, first class, you’ll have a week in Canada and a scene with Patrick Stewart, we can’t tell you what it is because it’s so top secret.
