I'm looking forward to Erica continuing Lois journey from The Army Brat to The top Ace Reporter of The Daily Planet . I don't like that she'll be writing for "The Inquisitor" However, I'm happy that she finally heading down The Journalism path this season . That way in Season 7 [The Final season, the TPTB can wrap up her journey with Lois Becoming The top Ace Reporter Of The Daily Planet as she is Destined to become, just in time to meet The Man Of Steel when he makes his first public appearence in Metropolis saving her life .

Mack: Not at all. In fact, I don't see it as being any sort of rivalry on the show, even. The three characters are so different and they all want such different things. I mean, there is a friendly competition now that Lois has started writing for "The Inquisitor," but it's really very slight.

I'm glad to see The TPTB are begin to move Lois a little faster towards her ultimate Destiny as The Top Ace Reporter for The Daily Planet. By having her writing for "The Inquisitor" Their setting up the stage for Season 7 {The Wrap up Season/ The Final Season}. Where in The series finale Lois is working @ The Daily Planet with Perry White as The Editor and Chief , Jimmy Olsen as The photographer & Mild Mannered Reporter Clark Kent as Her partner. Just When The Arrival of Superman's first appearence in Metropolis saving her life [Like in all the other incarnations of Superman, When he first makes his public appearence saving Lois Lane from some kind of danger.] in the series finale .

The current issue of SFX Magazine (October issue, #148) has an interview with Erica Durance where she discusses her perspective on the Lois & Clark relationship and her opinion of working with Tom Welling on Smallville.

"What I really like is that they can be brutally honest with each other" says Durance, who joined the Smallville ensemble in 2005. "I don't like the idea of them being lovey-dovey and schmaltzy. What I think is fun about the relationship is the banter and the teasing and the fact they are both strong individuals who are not willing to give up their identities just because they are in love with somebody. They're willing to hold onto what makes them individual and what challenges the other person."

On having to go undercover as a stripper in season five's 'Exposed':

"What really helped when i was doing all that falling over and rolling around on the floor was Tom Welling's reactions as Clark. His reactions were so humorous that it lightened the whole scene so something that could have potentially fallen flat, worked okay."

When asked who would win a scrap out of Tom Welling and Brandon Routh:

"Tom Welling's Clark and Brandon Routh's? "Without hesitating she declares "Oh I'm loyal to Welling. That's just where i stand on that issue for sure. I try not to do a critique or make comparisons when i watch any movie and go watch for the fun of it. But if we're talking about two guys just kicking it out in the street, I'd have to go for Tom. It's Welling all the way!"

Interesting rumor from I Watch Stuff. Apparently WB is thinking about a Lois Lane movie. Now I can't believe WB would be seriously considering a feature film spinoff starring arguably the least interesting character from SR.

If anything, the only Lois movie idea that could possibly work would be to follow Erica's Lois as she moves up the ranks of the DP. Either way, this rumor is probably more BS than true anyway.

I'm seeing it for the one-dimensional love interest every time. It appears someone else feels the same way, as Sky News reports that Lois Lane will not only have a larger part in the next Superman film, but is in the works for her own spinoff as well. Now the only question is if the movie can stand up to the sky high standards of the Lois Lane comic. I'm hoping it will be based on the one where she falls under a spell that turns her into a centaur.

I wouldn't say that she isn't interesting, but I do agree that Lois Lane's character doesn't belong in a film devoted to her character alone. I can imagine a movie inspired by the character, much like a Hollywoodland sort of idea.

If anywhere, the television medium is the only place I would prefer them to use Lois Lane as a focus point. Miles and Gough has been pitching it for years, but I honestly don't trust them to create a good show based on her after all the inconsistencies that Smallville has.

I have no doubt Erica would be awesome in a Lois Lane movie no doubt about that . as for Bosworth, {Her preformance was good in Superman returns, I really liked it, Just like with Margot Kidder in SUPERMAN : The movie & Superman II.} But it was nothing Earth shattering in her preformance like Erica Durance, Teri Hatcher, & Dana Delany different version of Lois . So While I believe in The Sequel kate's Lois will have a much bigger role than in Superman Returns.

I doubt this Lois Lane movie spin-off will take flight in the near future .... If ever .

We can say the same thing about Smallville (it being apart of Superman franchise) but that doesn't stop producers from developing more episodes. And it's also never been done before, so that in itself will bring some interest.

It's really on in execution. I'm not gung ho about a Lois Lane movie, but I'll see it anyway because I'm a fan and because there's a certain level of curiosity that comes along with it. But I'd really much prefer a tv series (or even a mini-series) based on Lois Lane rather than a movie if given a choice.

Like I alluded to in my original post, I think the best reason (or excuse) for a Lois Lane-centered story would be this scenario:

After Season 7, Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk and Mike Rosenbaum decide they've played these characters long enough and want to move on with their careers. Totally understandable.

However, The CW, seeing how Smallville is such a cash cow for their fledgling network doesn't want to lose their flagship show after only two years in existence.

So after the SV series finale, CW convinces Al & Miles to develop a spin off show starring Erica, Allison Mack, Michael McKean and Aaron Ashmore to do a Daily Planet-centered show (TW & MR could do occasional guest appearances, I suppose, though I think the series finale of "The Daily Planet" should be Clark's first day at the paper.)

It could work because the DP staff is already established on the show. And to keep the sci-fi/mysteries angle, Perry could put Lois, Chloe and Jimmy on the Metahuman Beat, or something. The dynamics would be similar to SV (maybe some sort of love interest for Lois, preferably not a Leaguer) and could maintain most of SV's audience.

well I would beg to differ with ya on that...ever seen the movie "House of the Dead"?
Its a bit part,and I do mean "bit",but this movie is incredibly awful!
The only good thing about it,with her in it,would be the fact that she flashes her bare chest at the camera for her "split-second frame fame".

For me Durance [even thought her version of Lois is still in her teenage years] I like her Lois alot better than Bosworth's Lois [don't get me wrong, I liked Bosworth as Lois, and she did pretty well with what she was given to work with. I disagree, especially between Routh and Reeve's portrayal of Clark. Reeve's owns Superman, no one can compete with that, but I will say that Reeve's Clark was more over the top, and at times, it even annoyed me, but Brandon held a more light hearted sweet persona with a surprising funny deadpanned behavior.

And Welling's Clark is an angsty Dawson's Creek style characterization. It's fine when I can get past his consistenty whiny behavior. The moments that I enjoy most are the ones with his parents and the back & forth banter between him and Lois.

down my neck."
Clark: "I'm sorry, Lois, I didn't know you were out here."
Lois: "I'm glad to see we've moved beyond the 'clothing
optional' stage of our relationship. I'm surprised you even remember who I am."
Clark: "Chloe's cousin. Nicorette addiction, can't stand uncomfortable silences."
Lois: "I guess this means your synapses are all firing again."
Clark: "Look, I can't explain my actions over the past few days.
But Chloe was my best friend. You're not the only one who misses her."
Lois: "I'm just the only one doing something about it."
Clark: "I get the feeling you like to do things yourself."
Lois: "My dad raised me to be independent and self-sufficient."
Clark: "That would be one way to describe you."
Lois: "You know, the only thing I like about you at the moment
is your mom. You can't possibly be as weird as I think you are
with a mom that cool."
Clark: "Look, why don't you let me help you find out who did
this to Chloe? Come on, you can stay at our house while you're in town.
It beats living out of your car."
Lois: "Thanks. But you should know I don't pay attention
to curfews and I never make my bed. I'll give you some time alone."

Season 4, Episode 4.2; GONE:
Clark: "None of this would've happened if I had been there.
Lois: "Okay, Commando, I don't get you. Half the time, you're all meek,
'Yes Ma,' and 'Yes Pa,' and the other half, you are the most
overconfident guy I've ever met."
Clark: "It doesn't happen to you much, does it?
Not being able to peg someone right away?"
Lois: "Oh, get over yourself. You are not that complicated."

Lois: "Nothing like a little North by Northwest action
to get the blood pumping, huh?"
Clark: "Um... we usually take turns in the bathroom."
Lois: "Oh, don't start with me, Smallville. You're the
one taking the marathon shower. Besides, my delicate feminine
sensibilities weren't offended the first time I got a glimpse of, uh, Clark Junior."
Clark: "My parents kind of missed the whole Woodstock
phase. Besides, they freaked out the last time they caught me in a co-ed situation."
Lois: "Last time? So the eagle scout does have a few secrets in the closet."

Clark: "That's my shirt."
Lois: "It's the only thing I could find that was clean.
Hey, let's keep this morning's game of chopper tag a secret, okay?"
Clark: "Right. Because I'm the one who can't keep my mouth shut."


Lois: "I don't understand what the big deal is here.
We just took a shower."
Clark: "Showers. We took separate showers."

Lois: "I really crashed and burned on that one."
Clark: "Must be a daily ritual for you."
Lois: "Only when I'm barreling into a train wreck."


Lois: "Wow, she didn't take any prisoners, did she?
Lana? Cute, smart, gutsy... and way too much for you to handle.
I can see why you're in love with her."
Clark: "Look, you're really not the person I want to talk to about this."
Lois: "Suit yourself."
Clark: "It's just... I knew she'd be dating other people."
Lois: "But?"
Clark: "I just don't understand how you could feel like
you know someone so completely, like you know everything
about them, and then just all of a sudden..."
Lois: "You don't even know what continent they're on."
Clark: "Do you always have to finish people's thoughts?"
Lois: "Well, am I right?"

Clark: "Considering your father has a yard full of tanks
out there, I don't think you should be in his office rifling through his files."
Lois: "That didn't seem to slow you down any. I gotta
say I'm impressed, Smallville, that you could sneak on a military
base undetected. What are you doing here?"
Clark: "I'm looking for you. I think your father's working
with Lex Luthor. I saw one of his cigars in his library."
Lois: "I knew it. You're right. What do you know?
My dad and the king of the trust fund kids."

Lois: "I can handle him, Clark. Besides, if you
think that chopper recital was something, you should've
seen the escort I had for prom."
Clark: "Wow, and I thought my father was overprotective."
Lois: "I guess when he lost my mom, he kind of cracked,
and... ever since, he's been scared of losing me too.
I can actually talk about it. She died when I was six."
Clark: "I'm sorry."
Lois: "Don't be. Unless you're the one that got her hooked
on cigarettes behind the gym during high school."

I liked how your questions explored the future Lois & Clark romance, something that hasn't really been talked about much yet by the cast and crew. Hopefully the sixth season will explore this more; like mabe having Lois finally meet Perry White and getting intrested in journalism. I also liked the great insight that Erica gave as to how she plays Lois, and the fears that Erica herself had to overcome for some of the scenes in Aqua. I have been a fan of smallville since the first season, and it just got better with the addition of Lois Lane during the fourth Season. Yes, I had my doubts about bringing her in such an early stage, but when she first appeared in the opening moments of "Cursade", I had to ask where she had been these last four years ? Erica is right up there with my other favorite Miss Lane, Teri Hatcher, not to mention that her and Tom's chemistry is off the charts. I'm hoping we get more Lois-centered episodes in season 6, and maybe we could find out what happend with her sister? Plus, will General Lane make another appearance? I would like to see some more adventures with Lois & Clark even if they are not supposed to be romantically involved yet. Keep up the good work, you guys.

The quality of the cast keeps us watching too. Mack, Schneider, Glover, Kreuk and O’Toole continue to treat their characters with warmth and respect, and they all get their moment to shine. But it’s Durance who gets most of the attention this season. Stepping into a role made famous by Margot Kidder and Teri Hatcher is no enviable task, but Durance brings a fresh charm and wit to Lois. She’s everything you’d expect from the future Daily Planet reporter - opinionated, bossy, strong-willed and beautiful (Durance has a body to die for, which certainly helps). In most respects, she lightens up the mood, and her constant sparring with Clark allows for plenty of humour.

“Being Lois Lane”

This 10-minute vignette is one of the more interesting produced for Smallville yet, and as the title would suggest, concentrates solely on Miss. Lane. It’s a string of interviews with those who have played the character on screen - Margot Kidder, Noel Neill, Dena Delaney from the animated series, and Smallville’s own Erica Durance. Unfortunately, Teri Hatcher is nowhere to be found; rather strange considering her appearance in the Lois & Clark set. The featurette never goes into any major detail, but the comments are fun and enthusiastic. It would have been great if the producers had really explored the character and her motivations, but the piece is enjoyable regardless.

Smallville's fourth year begins with Crusade, an episode that does a great job of setting what happens for the rest of the season. First off, the episode brings two very important characters to the new year of the series. Most controversial is the introduction of Lois Lane (Erica Durance). While having Lois on the show is a big break with continuity, Durance brings a fire to the cast that was sorely needed. She's a great Lois Lane, with lots of spunk and a wonderful repartee with Tom Welling. The two have a natural chemistry that has energized the show. Smallville has a history of breaking with tradition already with having Lex and Clark being friends and Jor-El being less than a benevolent father, but the series has always used breaks in continuity to their favor and Lois is no different.

No matter how much I like Erica Durance in the part. There's no denying it: Durance makes a damn good Lois Lane. I like watching her as Lois; she's a good actress. I particularly liked the bit in the episode "Recruit," in which she drinks some Metropolis University frat boys under the table, Marion Ravenwood style. She brings all the essential qualities of a good Lois Lane to the screen: She's smart, tough, sexy, pushy, slightly obnoxious.
