Smallville's Lois Lane Has the Scoop!

Deciding to follow in the footsteps of Noel Neill and Margot Kidder (and a pre-Housewives Teri Hatcher, for that matter) could not have been easy for Erica Durance (http://tvguide.com/redirect?keyword=erica+durance), who joined WB's Smallville (http://online.tvguide.com/NewSearch/detail.aspx?id=3149668&tvobjectid=100398&sourcetype=S&progseriesparentid=3149668&keyword=smallville) last season as Lois Lane. Nonetheless, the Canuck took the risk and has since settled into the role nicely, offering up an edgy take on the woman who will one day fancy herself an intrepid reporter and call herself Mrs. Superman. TVGuide.com leaped over a tall building at the chance to chat up the beauty about Clark Kent's romantic options, the tips she earned by stripping and the none-too-insignificant fact that her Lois has yet to show any journalistic leanings.
TVGuide.com: I imagine the mood on the set has to be good as Smallville racks up "super" ratings in its new Thursday time slot.
Erica: Durance: Yeah, we're always surprised year in and year out by what happens. Partially what's contributed to the ratings is the new time slot. Yes, there is some strong competition to go up against, but on Thursday everything is a little different. You have your sitcoms; there is a variety of shows. On Wednesday we were up against Lost (http://online.tvguide.com/NewSearch/detail.aspx?id=4178279&tvobjectid=100272&sourcetype=S&progseriesparentid=4178279&keyword=lost) and anything going up against that [faces a big hurdle]. Also spicing things up is the direction in which they have taken the story lines, having the characters grow up and therefore have to deal with more of the actual story of Superman. Clark has graduated and is dealing with some other things, and so are the other characters, and that pulls people into the show.
TVGuide.com: Series cocreator Al Gough (http://tvguide.com/redirect?keyword=al+gough) told me in September (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Insider/default.htm?cmsRedir=true&rmDate=09152005&cmsGuid={20126D94-BF93-4FB4-8D95-3332429BADD9}&cmsSrch=true) that this season would be all about "payoff."
Durance: Yeah, I'm finding that with each episode that comes along, you go, "Wow."
TVGuide.com: Obviously, Clark has his share of possible love interests. In your opinion, what does Lois offer that Lana or Chloe do not?
Durance: We haven't actually gotten into any mudslinging or cat fights, as it were, but.... The other two girls, for the most part, so far have both had these crushes on Clark. Of course he has this "young love"/first love thing with Lana, when in comes this person who's quite sacrilegious about this whole idea of Clark and how wonderful he is; Lois cuts right through that. She just doesn't put up with any crap from anyone, whether it's from a good-looking farm boy or.... But there's this redeeming side to her, too, which Clark occasionally gets to see — when the chips are down, she will go in and risk her life for the people she loves. Regardless of the fact that she's a little irritating and kind of likes to take jabs at him, she does have that other side to her.
TVGuide.com: Will we ever see Lois start dabbling in news reporting? Fans are concerned that one day she will become some "insta-journalism whiz."
Durance: Al and Miles [Millar] (http://tvguide.com/redirect?keyword=miles+millar) know this folklore very well, and they, of course, want to be sensitive to the people out there who love it as well, so I think that they're trying to find a nice, subtle way of bringing that in. They don't let me know what's going on really, but I do know that there occasionally are hints of Lois helping Chloe out with that sort of thing. That said, I don't think Lois can really get into it for a little while. She's still trying to find out who she is and learning to accept who she is, and until she finds that personal grounding, she can't go out and be that balls-to-the-wall kind of gal.
TVGuide.com: Are you up to speed on the current Superman comic-book series? At least one of them does tremendous justice to you as a young, sexy, voluptuous Lois.
Durance: To be honest with you, I haven't seen the latest, but if that's what's out there, I'll enjoy it, sure! Why not? [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: Here is where you regale me with stories of how you prepped for the episode where Lois went undercover as a stripper.
Durance: [Laughs] Well, at first I was quite concerned. I thought, "OK, where are we going with this...?"

TVGuide.com: And, "How many carbs have I been taking in?"
Durance: Yes, there was a lot of working out, but I do that anyway! When they told me the scenario, it was more of a "Lois falling down and making a fool of herself" thing. I had this huge wipeout, which was totally Lois, on the first tape day, but it didn't get put into the actual episode, which was a bit unfortunate. She didn't really know what she was doing for me, the funny side of it helped sell me on the fact that she was working undercover stripping. Having also taken a bunch of courses to help me figure out how to do it, I have to say that exotic dancing is a lot harder than it looks. [Laughs] People think, "Oh, you just swing around a pole." No, it's very difficult — and very painful when you don't do it properly and instead smack into the pole.
TVGuide.com: What kind of tips did you merit? I think I saw flustered Clark slip Lois a 20.
Durance: Oh, yeah. He was scared to do that — I think it frightened him having that particular body part in his face. [Laughs] But I took it anyway!
TVGuide.com: There has been much buzz about the announced 100th episode's death. Is it safe to say that it won't be Lois, since we see her in the Superman movies?
Durance: The only thing that could happen to Lois is if she decided to leave Smallville for a long time, but I haven't gotten wind of that yet, so... I think she's safe for a while, which means that I have my job for a while, which is nice.
TVGuide.com: Do you know who is being killed off?
Durance: Do I know? Yes.
TVGuide.com: But you're sworn to all kinds and flavors of secrecy, eh?
Durance: Yes, I am, unfortunately. If I do , Lois will make a quick trip to Europe! [Laughs] So I'm not going to say anything.
[B]TVGuide.com: Will it be worth the buzz, though?
Durance: I believe people will be very, very impressed. I think they've done a very, very good job with it.
TVGuide.com: There is speculation that WB is releasing false spoilers for after that episode, to mislead fans into thinking they know who's still alive — like Chloe, for example.
Durance: I've traveled around and done conventions, and it's a really big deal — people have all their theories and try to get it out of you — so I'm not surprised if the guys at the top are trying to throw people off.
TVGuide.com: What's the latest on more Smallville seasons?
Durance: Given the fact that in our fifth year our ratings are still quite good, I've heard that there is possibly another season. Being an actor, you're usually the last person to really know, but it seems very positive.
TVGuide.com: Your father is a truck driver, your mother a librarian. What have you learned from each of them?
Durance: They have a very strong work ethic — I've never seen two people work harder in my life — and also have a strict code of honor and integrity, and when it comes down to it, your most important asset in life is your family. I've been blessed.
TVGuide.com: Could you hijack an 18-wheeler if you had to?
Durance: I think I could! I wouldn't be afraid of it, that's for sure.
TVGuide.com: And are you an expert on the Dewey decimal system?
Durance: Not as much as my mother would like! But I still love reading.
TVGuide.com: Who are your favorite authors?
Durance: There are modern books that I've been reading, like Harry Potter, but I also read the girly stuff. I love Jane Austen and Ellen Montgomery.
TVGuide.com: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Durance: Um...
TVGuide.com: Perhaps an interesting tattoo in an interesting place?
Durance: No, I wish! [Laughs] I think maybe you should make one up.
TVGuide.com: You do not want me to do that.
Durance: Yeah, you're probably right. Geez, see how boring I am? People would be surprised by how normal a life I lead.
TVGuide.com: Do you have any other acting projects in the works?
Durance: Right now I'm just focusing on Smallville. There's something surprising for you! People think there are so many things coming down the pike for me, but not yet! I need to work a little bit harder.
TVGuide.com: No slasher movie where you get chased for 90 minutes?

So Lois is on her own personal journey, to become The Woman she's Destined to become. Just like Clark & Lex are on their personal journey to The Men they will ultamitly become .
I like it,
Lois is in her Army Brat stage of her journey.
While Clark is still in his Whiny Alien/Farmboy stage,
And Lex is in his self searching stage.
Slowly, one by one they will each begin to Embrace their Destiny. I'm looking forward to it.

Lois isn't a 'damsel in distress' like Lana, Lois can take care of herself. However their are certain dangerous situation that she get's herself into, that she would need the aid of The Man Of Steel.

Well I was refering to the comics, not Lois-Fu and Power Ranger Lana, I find alot of that stuff ridiculous.
The great thing about the classic Lois Lane is she thinks she can take care of herself (shes pretty cocky) but in all reality it ends her up in even deeper water, where the Man of Steel saves her.

ON THE PERSONAL SIDE:
The "Smallville" troops will be winding up production Dec. 20, "when we get hiatus for a couple of weeks, then shoot again through April," reports Erica Durance, a.k.a. the show's Lois Lane. "My husband (actor David Palffy) and I are just going to kick back. His family is going to be coming, and we're going to have a big family party at our house, and then we're thinking of going somewhere to see some sunshine. Vancouver just gets so gray."
The beautiful Canadian actress notes that "Last year was my first Christmas with my husband in our house, so it was very romantic and sweet. My Christmases tend to be more old-fashioned. Growing up, all the Christmases were at home, and all were family-based. I've been through Christmases where the money was really low, and I remember just hanging out and listing to music and enjoying each other's company. It made such an impression on me that Christmas is all about family and love and being together. I did have Christmas with no presents, and it was still Christmas."

According to most around here, they are working a little later into the schedule before christmas this year. I was wondering if this was to compensate time required off to do talk show rounds for the 100th episode.

Early in 2005, Erica Durance tied the knot with sweetheart David Palffy. The couple currently live in Vancouver and have just purchased a house. So far she's appeared in

(7) "Reckoning"
(8) "Tomb"
She has 5 more left - So It look's like she'll be in all the other episode of season 5 (all the way to The Season 5 Finale)

Erica Durance has a nice set, even though I know they're artificial. She obviousely picked a good cosmetic surgeon, because if it wasn't for the fact that she was notably flatter in House of the Dead, I wouldn't be able to tell. :p

Have you seen the old pictures of her with her natural hair? It's pretty dark. I think her current color is more flattering to her. Maybe they don't need to make Lois a dark brunette.. after all, Lana was never a redhead (a few temporary streaks don't count. :) )

I actually saw that episode (one of the few SG's I've watched). I meant her really oooold pictures, when she looked pretty dramatically different. Although, I really can't remember how dark her hair was in SG. I wonder if I can find a cap online...
She does look nice with the darker hair.. I guess she's just one of those people who can wear it either way and still look good.

The Butterfly Effect 2, the sequel to the 2003 cult hit in which a person can change the past via remembering their forgotten memories, is following in the original's footsteps and prepping for a Vancouver shoot. The direct-to-DVD sequel is being helmed by John R. Leonetti (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) and will film January 9 thru Febuary 7, again, at Lions Gate Film Studios.
No word on casting yet, other than Ashton Kutcher will not be reprising his role.

Foxy “Smallville” reporter-in-waiting Erica Durance is flying to film.
Durance, who plays feisty Lois Lane on the brothers Warner series, will star in New Line’s sequel to “The Butterfly Effect”.
"Casting agents Coreen Mayrs and Heike Brandstatter saw several actresses for the role of Julie in the film, but ultimately went with Durance for the main female role. The main roles will be filled by Canadians", tells Steph, who went for the same role in the film.

Sci-fi sequel starts production immediately

New Line has cast Erica Durance ("Smallville") and Eric Lively ("The L Word") in its sequel "The Butterfly Effect 2."
Filmengine and Benderspink are producing on "Butterfly Effect 2," which begins production today.
Pic, which isn't bringing back characters from the original, also stars Dustin Milligan ("In the Land of Women"). Story will follow a time-traveling character who discovers that changes to past events carry unforeseen consequences in the present.
John Leonetti is directing a script by Michael Weiss. Filmengine's A.J. Dix and Anthony Rhulen are producing along with Benderspink's Chris Bender and J.C. Spink while William Shively exec produces.
"The Butterfly Effect" grossed $58 million domestic when it was released in early 2004.

Being a Joss Whedon fan I've had WonderWoman on the brain and I think she might be tougher to cast than Superman. So few actresses have the right physicallity. There is just a toughness to ED and it's not all her height. It may not be ideal that's she's already Lois but being already popular with fanboys might be a plus. Also she may look really different with black hair. I wish there was a WonderWoman board, if I suggested her there maybe we could get that manip.

Carlos Ponce ("7th Heaven") will play police inspector Raddimus, a character that will recur in all three telepics. Ken Konwiser will direct, Kip Konwiser produce.
Production begins this spring in Puerto Rico. No air date is set.

"The Butterfly Effect 2" is filming, slated for release next year with Erica Durance ("Smallville") as its lead. As for her leading man, that would be Eric Lively, probably best known as Mark Wayland on Showtime's original same-sex drama of the feminine persuasion, "The L Word." Other cast currently listed on the roster includes Gina Holden ("Final Destination 3," and the TV shows "Reunion" and "Supernatural") and Dustin Milligan ("Slither," "Final Destination 3," and the TV series "Andromeda"). With Durance leading the pack of fresh faces, the up and coming stars have their work cut out for them, walking in the footsteps of the original. But, if the prospect of revisiting the premise of the first "Butterfly Effect" wasn't enough to draw some interest, this fanboy's dream girl could bring more attention to the picture, even though The Movie Insider categorizes this "Butterfly" as going straight to DVD.
Durance has picked up a fan following as Lois Lane on The WB television show "Smallville." To date, "House of the Dead" has been her only real claim to big screen fame. Since doing that video game to horror movie flick, it's been TV all the way for her, making appearances on "Tru Calling," "Andromeda," "Stargate SG-1," and finally "Smallville," which has won her the most delicious time in the spotlight. After making her debut as Lois in season four of the show about young Clark Kent and his path to becoming World's Greatest Hero, Durance received such a warm reception that she was signed for season five and added to the cast as a regular. And, she's loving it. "It'd be nice if fans thought I was the sexiest Lois Lane," she recently told FHM. She also commented briefly on what she thinks of "Superman Returns," reaffirming her allegiance to the comic book geek in her and declaring that she will indeed be going to see it like every other fan.
With her career poised to take off and her first significant starring role in a movie, Erica Durance seems to be prime for a move from the small screen to the silver one. Unfortunately, the position of Lois Lane in the new Superman franchise is already filled by Kate Bosworth, and many "Smallville" fans will always wonder what could have been if the film had just naturally progressed out of the series with actors that had already grown into the roles as Erica has with Lois. But, what could have been is more a question for "Butterfly Effect 2" than it appears to be for Durance.

I loved the first Butterfly Effect. I was a bit doutful about a second one being made but once I found out Erica was going to be the lead in it I was so into the idea od Butterfly Effect 2. :supes:

The Butterfly Effect does not need a Sequel. That is a good Movie on its own. However the Theatrical Ending sucked when the Alternate Ending is way better

I totally agree about the Alternate ending. Such a waste. And about sequels, there are far many more films out there that should never had sequels (Basic Instinct 2 and Cruel Intentions come to mind) but they still went ahead with it. It's a 50/50 chance it'll either suck or actually turn out decent. I'm hoping for the latter, but I'm not that big a fan of Butterfly Effect so my opinion on the sequel is pretty indifferent.

Well I think it's time they begin to put the pieces of The puzzle in place. Season 6 should be the season all the characters [Conneted to The Superman mythology] Moving forward to their right full places in The overall story.
Erica's Lois isn't that far of from become The Ace Reporter for The Daily Planet , all she needs is The intrest in Journalism And *Bang* The Iconic Lois Lane transformation is compleate . She has all of Lois's characteristics . All she needs is the intrest in Journalism & the desire to become The Best Damn Reporter the world has ever seen or know {even better than her cousin Chloe .}
