I won't say it is rediculous but I will say, that I am accustumed to seeing Superman a certain way, the traditional way. But I remember when I saw Daredevil and the king pin was black. It didn't bother me a bit because I was not familiar with the character but I know others who were bothered by the change. Another generation who did not know supeman as we do could possibly accept Superman of another race. idk...
but whats the point tho when there are plenty of other good black superheros just waiting to be put onscreen,it wouldnt work making luke cage, black panther, blade, war machine or John stewart white for instance

Hey guys,
Let your opinions be heard.

EW is part of Time Warner...so maybe they'll see who fans would like to see.
Tom for Superman!
Okay, I have some power.
I just posted that on tw.org.
Hopefully it'll get the word out and their servers will be flooded with comments saying Tom is the guy.

Unrelated to JL, but interesting in a big picture kind of way:
What 48 things do you want to do?
By: Ettie Newlands
September 27, 2007
Excerpt:
Forty-three days before the first day of a new year, a website posed the question, "What are 43 things you want to do before you die?" Before the 43 days were up, 1,249,206 people in 13,763 cities posted 1,091,232 things on their lists. Some of the goals were predictable, like the 3,636 people who want to exercise more or the 7,003 who want to get out of debt. It's a little sad that 524 still need to find their purpose in life, and a little pathetic that two actually said they want to become atheists. It's amazing that 2,029 people admitted wanting to watch all the "Smallville" episodes, and confusing that 120 want to stop thinking too much. How much thinking did that answer require?

If they disregard SV continuity; it would seem like a waste in regards to all the development Clark has went through.
Yesterday's episode reinforced that.
They should make the JL universe consistent with what SV established IMO.

altho i agree, you still have the problem of the recasting of aquaman and martian manhunter which interferes with the smallville continuity somewhat.
A new flash is easily explained tho as its Bart (impulse)

Yeah.
They should just use Phil Morris, Alan Ritchson and Kyle Gallner with Welling.
I'd rather they keep Flash as Bart Allen instead of introducing Barry Allen; it's a bit messy.
I dont know how this project will impact SV if Welling isnt involved though.
Since Martian Manhunter is now apparently in the revised script for the film, will the film division still allow Phil Morris to keep appearing on SV; or will he randomly disapear sometime this season?

well i mean if they have to recast him-i could buy it seeing as how jonn is a shapeshifter
I would like to see ryan reynolds as flash tho if they use wally west

Yeah. Its not Wally West. Its Barry Allen.
But they should just keep the SV Flash if they keep Welling.
I dont want Phil Morris replaced either. John may be a shapeshifter but Phil has such a cool voice for the character.

Justice Bringer
09-28-2007, 08:01 AM
Yeah its confirmed for now.
It's Barry since Flash dies at the end, but since Bart died in the comics as well; I doubt DC would have a problem sanctioning the use of Bart as the film's Flash.
Since Bart was always Clark's favorite; it would perhaps make his death more meaningful.

Yeah well, I dont care about WB.
I'm just saying if they want Welling; its foolish to disregard everything established in Smallville.
I mean what happens if Superman gets a solo spinoff from JL with Welling? You cant go back to Smallville continuity again with the SV actors after disregarding it in JL.
So I'd rather they keep it if they want him.

Is it just me, or is the DC Films board filled with a bunch of whiny fanboys? Not only do they constantly rail against all things Smallville (apparently, the posters of this board have a piss poor rep in the other SHH boards. Someone's sig actually reads "the Smallville boards are SHH's own Arkham Asylum") but my thread on EW's story about the JL script (one that I oh so patiently transcribed for people who didn't get the magazine early, by the way) got criticized and closed.
Uh, hello? EW is the most read entertainment magazine in the country. And they just confirmed the list of heroes, plot details and the main villain. Info that was all merely speculation up until this point. Jeez.
Anyway, since you all are more appreciative, here's the list of heroes and how they're described in the script according to EW:
'LEAGUE' SNEAK PEEK
EW caught an early glimpse of the Justice League script. Below, a (mostly) spoiler-free first look. -- NS
SUPERMAN a.k.a. Clark Kent, news reporter. The morally upstanding Man of Steel battles Batman and has more to worry about than Kryptonite.
WONDER WOMAN a.k.a. Diana of Themyscira, Amazonian princess. Revered by the other supers for her beauty and ass-kicking abilities.
MARTIAN MANHUNTER a.k.a. J'onn J'onzz, detective. His power to read minds comes in handy as the villain engages in some nifty mind control.
GREEN LANTERN a.k.a. John Stewart, architect. Designed the Hall of Justice. His emerald power ring shoots beams of energy.
BATMAN a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. The most human of the bunch is mistrustful of others, which leads to quite a few problems for the clan.
FLASH a.k.a. Barry Allen, cop. The most enthusiastic superhero, Flash is happy just to be included, but his ravenous appetite leads to trouble.
AQUAMAN a.k.a. Arthur, the Atlantean king. Not a fan of humans, Aquaman is more interested in helping his fellow heroes than lending a hand to land dwellers.

If they want to tie it with Welling and Smallville;
Make the film take place in the not so distant future (like X-men) about 10 years following the series finale of Smallville.
Clark completed his training and is now Superman in Metropolis.
A.C. returned to Atlantis to rule his Kingdom.
Bart went from criminal to police officer.
MM tracks all the superpowered beings on the planet and unites them together.

You know.
I was thinking of a good premise to get the Supergirl spinoff to actually work.
The Smallville series finale will likely see Clark finally leaving Smallville to begin his training.
In the wake of that, Kara would remain in Smallville. Wouldnt it be cool if some characters from The Legion were stranded at this point in history and joined forces with her for the series?
The spinoff might work better with a team dynamic thing going.

It's not just you. I had 'words' over there with a few of them a few days ago. I took offense to some crap they said about us over here in the SV and I had to post.

But I am disappointed that the mods would allow a sig that is insulting to an entire group of people that support these boards pretty regularly.

I LOVE this. The various personality aspect of the plot intrigues me more than the OLMACs LOL. It's what I really liked about that scene in SV's Justice episode, where Clark finds out what the other heroes have been up to since he last saw them. That exchange was priceless!
I haven't gotten my EW yet but will probably get it today. Was there anything else of interest about JL in the article? So far, the character breakdown is gold. :D
Saw your post in the DC Films board. Thanks for getting my back!
As far as JL coverage in EW, I transcribed everything they had.
You know, I've been thinking. Maybe WB really is trying to gauge fan reaction to their casting choices. The fact that Biel "passed" on the role after Variety and EW both independently reported on her "early talks" is more than a coincidence. In my experience, 9 times out of 10, when the trades report an actor is in talks, that usually means they have the role. But fan reaction to her casting was less than overwhelming. But when Welling's name was leaked a few weeks back, buzz for the movie went through the stratosphere. Hopefully the money bags at WB are paying attention (look at the response on EW.com and MTV!) and are willing to give in to whatever demands Welling's camp and/or GoughLar have to get this thing done!

FLASHa.k.a.
I like the line-up exsept for Barry as The Flash (I love Barry in the comics,) However I think it's a huge mistake in having him in this movie . Wally Should be in this movie, more Dc comic fanboys & girls of this Gen-X are more familor with Wally West as The Flash (due to The Comics, The JL/JLU cartoons , plus his upcoming appearence on The Batman this season .) It's only the Old School Dc fans that would remember or even know Barry Allen story (Besides just being The Uncle of Wally) Also I Think with all the serious teamates in this group . We Need a comic relief character in the group just to shake things up . And The only One that's prefect for the job is Wally West.

People were speculating on here that his deeper voice was just sound editing, but upon second viewing, I don't think so. I think that's just either Tom's natural voice, or him speaking in a lower register on purpose. I don't think it was manipulated at all.

Not going into the ep threads is hard, it's where all the action is.
Oh, well.
Uhm, and I thought the lower register might have been helped a little in the first scene between Clark and Bizarro, but after that I thought it was all Tom.
I think he pushed his voice down lower than normal but it's hard to tell since he sorta pushes it up as Clark to seem younger.

I also think that Tom's voice wasn't mechanically altered. I have heard others say that actually he speaks alot deeper than on Smallville. I think it's all part of his characterization of Clark and portraying someone who's younger.

I highly doubt fan reaction has anything to do with the decisions the studio makes on these films or with what happened to Biel. The fans are such a small fraction of the overall group of people who would see this film, that we wouldn't even make a dent at the box office if we chose not to see it.
Whether Biel was right for the part or not, she is the current IT girl and her casting would have definitely brought in the male crowd. From a business standpoint it made plenty of sense. I'm certain the studio really wanted her for this film and they could care less what a couple of fans on internet message boards thought but for whatever reason, Biel decided to pass.

What Does 'Justice League' Need to Succeed?
By Brad Brevet
As I am sure most of the regular readers here know I am not a big comicbook reader, in fact I have never actually read a comicbook. However, I love a good comicbook movie and I am not exactly sure what Justice League is going to become. Warner Bros. has put the film on the fast track for production, but will they be able to move as quickly as they would like with the stars they are interested in?
Three days after we learned Jessica Biel had been offered the role of Wonder Woman in the Justice League we get word she turned the film down from Entertainment Weekly. This certainly doesn't help production, and I am now starting to wonder what caliber actors they are going to be able to land for this massive ensemble piece.
Just the other day MTV posted an article with a wishlist of actors for roles in the film. The list went like this:
• Superman: Tom Welling
• Batman: Christian Bale
• Flash: Ryan Reynolds
• Green Lantern: Jamie Foxx
• Aquaman: Ryan Phillippe
• Wonder Woman: Kate Beckinsale
• Martian Manhunter: Keanu Reeves
Just look at those names for a second, not a bad list of names I would say. All of them have films I enjoy and each name is recognizeable by pretty much anyone, except Tom Welling who may be the odd man out, even though he does star on "Smallville", he is certainly the smallest of the bunch. However, he has been playing Superman now for seven years now, which I have to assume makes him the top candidate for such a role. Ironically out of the list he may be the best suited for the specific role (along with Bale of course) and will probably come the cheapest. Funny how Hollywood works.
The reason I point this list out is because it would cost TONS to get all of these folks in one movie, not to mention how much it would cost to get all of these folks in a movie involving superheroes and tons of special effects. IESB said the budget had been approaching $160 million at one point already and we all know that budgets rarely go down once they begin production.
I can't help but look at this project and think Warner Bros. is going to try and make it for as cheap as they can and as quickly as they can. Superman Returns had a budget that blossomed to astronomical heights and was even rumored to balloon over $300 million. A lot of that had to do with how long it actually took to make and the variety of individuals involved before it became a reality, but after that film didn't live up to expectations I have to assume they don't want a repeat performance.
So, I think the biggest question the Justice League movie faces is just how far down the Hollywood list can you go to find your actors for an ensemble piece of this magnitude?
For Zack Snyder and his Watchmen production he was able to cast great actors and didn't need to go after the big name, can the same be done for Justice League? Christian Bale wasn't exactly huge when Chris Nolan cast him as Batman, Brandon Routh was certainly no one before Superman, Eric Bana wasn't on the tip of everyone's tongue when he played Hulk, Ioan Gruffudd was certainly not water cooler chatter when he signed on for Mr. Fantastic and Alan Cumming hasn't been heard of since he played Nightcrawler, the most memorable comicbook movie character in a very long time in my eyes.
So what's the formula?
I would guess you don't need a big name, you just need the right name. I don't think a bunch of A-list actors signing contracts fighting for top-billing is your first priority. I would guess if most people hear there is a new movie involving both Superman and Batman, not to mention some hot chick running around in a Wonder Woman outfit there will be asses in the seats. The formula here if I was making the film would be adding up great actors and not worrying about the names, the characters sell themselves.

Take a look at what happened with Hulk. It wasn't embraced as a film, it was too dark and moody and Bana wasn't universally accepted as Hulk.
It was a pretty good film (I did enjoy parts of it) but Marvel is doing a reboot with Ed Norton because the first film and Bana weren't universally well received by the fans....
I think SR, and thus Routh, is being is being discarded for the same reasons.

"When I have children someday I'm going to be able to show them I was part of this great icon. It's a great feeling."

" It might not be because they play Clark Kent but it's because they played a romantic role in this film and now they want to be an action star but no one sees you as an action star."
Dreamwatch, July 2002
"I couldn't believe it when they told me I got it. I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life, but somehow I knew I wanted to be that guy who saves the day."
New Weekly, July 2002
"There were so many rumours out there, and it's the kind of situation where if you speak about it you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'd rather be damned if I don't."
Dreamwatch, March 2005
"When you're committing to a film it's not as easy as, "Wow, this sounds interesting." I'm on set nine, ten months out of the year as it is. And so the amount of time I'm not on Smallville becomes much more important to me."
Fangoria, October 2005

The thing with the Hulk was, Bana (or the rest of the cast) was never the problem with the masses. People were expecting an action packed (Hulk Smash!) superhero flick and what they got was a film that was steeped in psychological drama. It was a very ambitious attempt on Lee's part but it just wasn't the movie people were expecting. Some fans loved it, others hated it.
Another thing to keep in mind is, Ang Lee's Hulk film was produced by Universal. As far as the new film goes, besides distribution, they have nothing to do with it. Marvel is producing and financing the new film. It only makes sense that they would have their own ideas and would want to wipe the slate clean (and casting Ed Norton in the lead was a genius start).
So, I believe fan reaction can mean a lot and WB needs a hit so maybe they are paying attention this time.
The fans on the internet and the general audience as a whole (who make up most of the box office revenue) are two different groups and that was pretty much my whole point with Biel. Hypothetically speaking, even if a fan base were against an actor being cast in a part but the studio knows that actor has a broad appeal with the public, in most cases, they won't think twice about casting that person.

As for Hulk, a lot of the hardcore fans like myself who've kept up wit the comics lately seemed to enjoy it. The fans that didnt like it seemed to be the casual ones who dont read the books all too much but have some framework of a knowledge of the character.
Hulk's issue was not the fans, it was the general public that never really bought into it. They were expecting something in line with what they knew, which was the Bill Bixby TV show, not the comics. This was compounded by Universal selling the film as summer popcorn faire but Ang Lee made a greek tragedy which killed WOM.

the "3 live action Superman" argument doesnt make any sense because in 2009 Smallville will be over and if Routh doesnt go to JLA he wont be Superman anymore. We might just get a brand new actor in the role and then he'll be the only current one at that time.

But there are people who believe Singer's franchise will continue, and SV will still be in first run broadcast in other countries, not to mention continue to air in syndication in many countries even after it has ended its run in the US. So technically, there very well *could* be three live action Supermen at the same time.

So, I believe fan reaction can mean a lot and WB needs a hit so maybe they are paying attention this time.
Here's another example. Lionsgate is rebooting the 2004 Punisher for Marvel as well. They've hired a completely new cast and crew (with Rome's Ray Stevenson replacing Tom Jane in the lead). It isn't unheard of to reboot a franchise that didn't earn money or leave an impression with the general public.
On one level, that may be true. But there are people who believe Singer's franchise will continue, and SV will still be in first run broadcast in other countries, not to mention continue to air in syndication in many countries even after it has ended its run in the US. So technically, there very well *could* be three live action Supermen at the same time.
Whatchoo talkin' bout Willis?!

Hahaha. Something not-new from Satan, I mean Alfred Gough. :)
From Justiceleagueonfilm.com
"Tom Welling as Superman is the Justice League rumor that refuses to die. The latest is that the problem is that Smallville's production schedule will overlap with that of Justice League's. Rumors say that negotiations continue and have reached a point where Smallville executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar have expressed a desire to work things out if they are made executive producers on Justice League as well as spin-off Superman films and a potential reboot of Supergirl, provided the character is a success on Smallville. Commenting exclusively to Justice League On Film, Al Gough laughs, "That would be great... if any of it were actually true."
Is he just spinning cause of a NDA, or is he being honest? Wait, when has he ever told the truth?
And...if Welling's contract is with WB/WBTV/CW, then Gough/Millar should have NOTHING to do with it. It shouldnt matter what they want or think. I wish we could get some sort of facts/info/confirmation about this.

well hell if you're gonna go that far, you can pull Cain and Reeve into the mix too since those shows/movies still air in syndication, and I think the George reeves show is still on Nick at Night at times LOLWell, yes and no. Some countries will still be showing SV in *first* run. The UK is six months behind us, Oz is at least a year, and India just started airing SV S1 a year or two ago.
JLA will probably release day and date with a slight lag in smaller territories. If JL casts a new Supes and if MOS is postponed rather than indefinitely shelved, there will be three live action Supermen in "first run" somewhere in the world - and not just Timbuktu. ;)
Does it matter? Pfft! To me, no. Not at all. But to go from the argument about Warners not allowing Welling to be seen in the suit on SV to having not two but three Supermen at the same time in the public eye... I dunno. That sticks in my craw.

ummmm....something to ponder.....Boots, I question whether that's even a legitimate post. Steve Younis, I'd believe. Wait... lemme rephrase that. If Younis posted a quote from Gough, I'd believe he actually spoke to Gough. I have no clue who that other hole-in-the-wall site is, however. These "rumors" have been making the rounds for over a MONTH. In that respect, yeah, it's the rumor that just won't die.
Honestly though, I could give two hoots about what they have to do in order to get Welling into JL. I just want them to make it happen. So regardless of the contract negotiations involved, it's interesting to see Welling's name continue to get connected to JL.
But lets look at it from the other angle, just for poops and giggles. If the whole thing is a complete fabrication on the part of Warner Bros., and they've been disseminating faux information through people at the studio they know to have loose lips, what does that achieve if the goal isn't to deliver what they're getting everybody so hyped to see? If the whole thing is a ruse, they're only going to create a backlash. SV was trekking along minding their own P's and Q's, and then all of a sudden Warners drops a bomb on the Net that upsets the SV cast and crew, gets the fans all wound up, and then the studio ends up casting some no name noob from Oshkosh Wisconsin in the role of Superman. That's like... I dunno, dumber than a box of rox LOL. Talk about further dividing an already splintered fanbase. It just doesn't make sense.
LOL@Hulk's laptop analogy. Yeah, THAT makes sense.

I can only wonder how this and other boards would react if Welling was announced as Superman.Well, they got a taste of it already, and that might be it in a nutshell.
Imagine a situation where Warners DID want Welling, just as all of the rumors have indicated. They went through the contractual motions, Welling said yes, but then they couldn't make it work in the schedule no matter how hard they tried. There were no contract disputes, no crazy quid pro quo demands from G&M, just a simple impasse with scheduling. I'd believe that.
But then something happened that Warners didn't expect - Sanchez went on TV and posted on IESB that Welling would be cast...
http://www.patcostello.com/smileys/bomb.jpg
Fans go nuts. (Hey, I did! LOL) Warners sees the response and then finds themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place. They know how important the casting is - especially for Superman - and their instincts were right when they offered the role to Welling, but the schedule just wouldn't work. Now what?
Uh.......
Could this be where they're at right now? Could they have no clue who they're going to cast as Superman? Could they still be trying to iron out Welling's schedule problems? Could they have somebody else already signed and gave up on Welling weeks ago, as Sanchez reported? Could Welling be secretly signed and they're just waiting for the rest of the cast to come together before making any announcements, all while leaving Al Gough to do damage control behind the scenes?
Gosh, who the heck knows? :(

Movie Writers Eye Early Walkout
By MICHAEL CIEPLY
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 — As Hollywood’s studios rush to shoot movies before contracts with actors and directors expire in June, strategists for the industry’s writers, facing an earlier deadline of their own, are considering whether to force a stop to the action.
Over the last few days, negotiators for the Writers Guild of America West and the Writers Guild of America East, whose contract with entertainment companies expires on Oct. 31, have been taking a hard look at the almost 150 feature films that are candidates for production by early next year, according to people involved with the talks who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly.
As many as three-quarters of those pictures — including projects as prominent as “The Justice League of America” at Warner Brothers and “Another Night,” the proposed sequel to “Night at the Museum,” at 20th Century Fox — appear not to have final scripts.
The question at hand is whether writers, in the event no deal is reached, can inflict maximum damage on their bargaining opponents by striking immediately rather than continuing to work and letting the studios add those films to their strike stockpile.
Negotiators for the guilds and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios and networks, are scheduled to meet again on Thursday. Guild negotiators could ask their 12,000 members for strike authorization in advance of the contract’s expiration. And they appear to be gathering information that would support a call for a walkout in November, rather than later, when the Screen Actors Guild and the Directors Guild of America will also be in talks.
If writers were to strike before scripts are delivered, tens of millions of dollars already spent, and hundreds of millions in future revenue, could be lost.
Barbara Brogliatti, a spokeswoman for the producers’ alliance, said the studios had never assumed writers would keep working after the expiration of their contract. “Every studio and every network has contingency plans,” she said, and those plans “assume there could be a walkout on Oct. 31.”
Neal Sacharow, director of communications for the Writers Guild of America West, declined to comment.
A walkout by Hollywood’s writers would bring the first widespread shutdown of the entertainment industry since a five-month writers’ strike in 1988. But given the prickly tenor of negotiations so far, companies have been banking movies and television episodes that could fill schedules for months to come. New signals that the guild is ready to strike are just as clearly intended to intensify the pressure on the studios and networks.
Still, guild leaders are looking for signs that some companies, under pressure to book another potential blockbuster or two before production grinds to a halt, have left themselves exposed.
This month the latest round of talks brought little progress on issues like the producers’ request to restructure the residuals system, or the writers’ insistence on extending payments for new media. Studios, meanwhile, continued to sign stars and filmmakers for feature films that can begin shooting by early next year and finish before a June 30 contract expiration with the actors and directors unions.
Those feature films are now being seen as high-value targets by those at the writers guild who advocate an immediate walkout should no deal be reached.
Only this month Warner Brothers began a last-minute push to prepare its “Justice League of America,” a multisuperhero extravaganza to be directed by George Miller (“Happy Feet,” “Mad Max”) early next year — if the studio can get a viable script together, never mind a complicated cast. Kieran and Michele Mulroney, who did uncredited work on “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” have worked on the project, which still does not have a so-called green light to begin production. A spokeswoman for Warner Brothers declined comment.
Similarly, 20th Century Fox is in hurry-up mode on “Another Night,” the hoped-for sequel to “Night at the Museum,” which was released late last year and took in more than $250 million at the domestic box office. Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, who wrote the original, have been working on a script. A Fox spokesman declined to comment about the project’s status.
Among the many films that have been pushing toward production before June are “Wolverine” at Fox, “G.I. Joe” at Paramount, “The Wolf Man” at Universal and “The Soloist” at DreamWorks. Whether any particular picture remains on track is uncertain, as the status of films changes quickly and often in the face of scheduling pressures.
On the television front, networks have similarly been booking business that would apparently bump up against a Nov. 1 strike deadline, if it is set. Only this week, for instance, ABC ordered six episodes of “Section 8,” a new science fiction series from the writer Zak Penn and the BermanBraun production company. A quickly called strike would also complicate the networks’ planning for the 2008-9 season, because they are starting to work on pilots to show advertisers in the spring.

I'm sorry......but if you read that article as though you don't know any of what has been going on the last 2 months, it would just reek of doing everything you can to beat a deadline. Damned be the trepidation in such a big project on usual terms.
I mean, think about it, seperate your "Wellingness" or "Routhness" from the situation...and all you have is?
Faith in a director, that isn't Spielberg, to take the reigns of 7 of the most well known characters this side of Jesus in the shortest amount of time.
I just....don't know they should do this. Biel turning down WW should be seen as a sign. And, I REALLY hope those rumors of Welling turning it down before anyone else aren't true. It could very well be the same reasons Biel turned down that script (in progress as the article states).
Did you guys ever stop think that if the script isn't up to par, this could very well tarnish some of what you feel Welling has accomplished the last 7 years? Or is his putting on the tights, the only thing that matters at this point?
^All valid points.
To me, there is just something "off" about this whole JLA thing.

the first thing that comes to mind when an actress like Biel turns down this part is actually the commitment to playing the character, not the quality of the script. Let's face it, Biel while a decent actress isnt exactly known to be very shrewd in choosing the films she does. ( I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry?) So her backing away doesn't scare me about the script from a quality standpoint.
The main thing I look at is the commitment involved in such a role like this. She wouldn't just be signing up to play WW in one movie, I'd bet my house it's a multi-picture deal for at least 2 more JLA movies and possibly a spin-off Wonder Woman film if all went well. That's a HUGE commitment, and pretty much a decade of the prime of her career when she'd have to work everything she does around those movies. Biel isnt exactly a struggling, no name actress, she's one of those "up and comers" in movies now and seems to be getting pretty steady work, and also seems to like to jump around between genres. I could understand her not wanting to be tied to Wonder Woman for the next 10-12 years.
Sure the possibility exists that the script is awful and that is why Biel backed away, but I have faith knowing the previous work of guys like George Miller and Barrie Osborne and that those two wouldnt have signed on to do this movie if the script was awful, Especially Miller who is a self-professed DC comics fan.

Actually, JLOF is a sister site of Voices From Krypton, so I think they're legit. Remember, a few weeks back VFK got Miles Millar to spill the beans on what his and Gough's Superman movie would be like. To refreshen your memories:
See, Al and I had a really cool take on the movie which would have been... but you know. Uh, Lex is in... Lex is president, and he declares Superman Enemy #1 and frames him. And so it's Clark vs. the most powerful man in the world. It's our Lex, which is a really, really smart, charismatic figure rather than the Gene Hackman buffoon.
If we had done a Superman movie, that would be our take. Basically, you open up and it's Clark Kent - Reporter covering who's going to be President of the United States. You walk into the Oval Office and who's behind the desk? Lex Luthor. They're old friends from Smallville, and you sort of work from there. And he discovers that Lex has, you know, plans to destabilize the world through oil or whatever reasons, Superman must stop him. Lex frames Superman and declares him Enemy #1, you know the whole world against Superman, and he has to turn the tables and bring down the President.
Add this to what Gough recently told Wizard, and there's clearly been a change in his demeanor when discussing Tom as Superman.
You know, we’re always open to that [a "Smallville" movie]. I don’t know if that’s something that Warners would want to pursue given that they have the Superman movies now—at least one, and talk of a sequel. That’s something that we’re always open to.
Something's got to be up, right?

And Season 8 will continue with Super girl and Tom will have a guest starring role. I was informed Tom was excited about the opportunity taking the role of the MOS. While it had some good ideas (the building that nobody could see), overall I did NOT enjoy that movie. Love Alec Baldwin on SNL, but that movie just dragged (between gory moments) :-<
Maybe they could reboot Shadow, with TW in Baldwin's role. He has the hair and the smirk ;->
I loved it...best thing Baldwin has done (besides Mr. Schmelly). And Raimi has bought the rights to it (along with Doc Savage and the Avenger)...so it could get another movie soon.

New update by Rilk123 at IESB...
What the NY times has printed is Information control set out by WB because of the higher ups under a rush to get this movie into production and completed before a strike would happen. And they are just trying to cover them selves of a unforeseen collapse. Great pic of Tom but imagine a Darker suit, And Tom is a bigger man than Routh. If you have never seen them in person it is very noticeable. From what I understand by what I have been told is they feel very confident on whats on the table with Tom Welling . And its this negotiation that has been holding up the casting decision so after the things or finalized by friday we should have a Cast of the top 3..It was not until the problem they ran into with Gough that they started throwing bigger names out there so You will get confirmations faster now from what I have been told..When Tom is official. most think Al had a problem because, he was assured the script he and Mill had regarding his version of a Superman movie was eventually going to get made or at least seriously considered and Tom was apart of that for those who believed Tom was never planning to where the Tights...
I hope this is true. It would be sweet.

- Well, firstly, Shapeshifter 'hates smallville soo much." Yet has obviously watched every season, considering Green Arrow was just last season.
- Shapeshifter hates the costumes, but loves GA's, so my assumption is he hates real clothes, but loves spandex. *shrug* whatever floats yer boat.

last I heard the script was complete and in it's 3rd draft, so I'm not sure what NYT means when they say the script isn't "complete?" The script was turned in back in June, they might mean the screenplay.
Even if the writers do go out early, I'd assume at this point in the game, Miller and Osborne could just step in and finish it where need be.

So they'd basically be pulling a Donner/Mankiewicz writing on Justice League. Writing a lot of the story, but not getting any credit for it.

I've been trying to keep up - but I keep hoping for something *concrete* to be posted.
I did like this post by someone named Dav620 (who I hope doesn't mind that I"m reposting his comment here).
You know what I find odd is this repeated statement that implies Warner Brothers quickly throwing this together, and yet as I recall Superman Returns was running pretty much along the same time line. They started "July-Aug.2004" with Bryan Singer, then casting began, and production went in after the holidays 2004 with filming beginning in spring 2005. The film was set for release 14 months after they started filming, summer 2006. Considering that they are going basically along the same time frame I don't understanding those voicing opposition based on the fact that they keep writing it's being rushed as point of contention when that's not really a valid argument. This film is going to be set for release Summer 2009. Two years seems like more then enough time to do this film, and release it. Take care.
I liked that entry because I keep hearing the same criticism from people ("this movie will be CRAP because they are rushing it!") and I honestly didn't think it seemed like it was being rushed since they've supposedly had at least a preliminary script for quite a while.

http://www.mania.com/56081.htmlYeah, that's old DvilDog. Sanchez said a few days later that it was in Welling's camp again. The "he's in," "he's out," "he's in," "he's out," volleys continue. Kinda funny if you look at it from outside the box. Unfortunately, I haven't been "outside the box" since 2003 sometime. LOL ;)

Oh man, I read this quick and almost had a freakin' heart attack! They just announced the full cast for Justice League.... but it's the ANIMATED DTV flick, which is completely unrelated to the live action film being directed by George Miller. Hah! Okay, I'll be peeling myself off the floor now. Interesting cast though. Voices of...
Kyle MacLachlan as Superman
Jeremy Sisto as Batman
Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman
Neil Patrick Harris as The Flash/Barry Allen
David Boreanaz as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan
Miguel Ferrer as The Martian Manhunter/John Jones
Kyra Sedgwick as Lois Lane
Brooke Shields as Carol Ferris
John Heard as Ace Morgan
Phil Morris as Faraday
The film is expected to have a PG-13 rating and is scheduled for release from Warner Bros. Animation on January 28, 2008.

Also, MTV must have gotten a TON of hits from their first article on casting Justice League because they're fishing for more activity. Might as well give it to 'em, right? Here's the link:

Isn't that information old?Yes and no. According to that article, which is dated today, the FULL cast has just been announced. I'd heard about the film many months ago, but didn't know who all the voices would be (not that I care much 'cause honestly, I don't have much of an interest in it.) But, because I've been scouring the Net for news about the Miller live action film and saw "full cast list announcement for JL," I freaked. LOL
Seriously folks, not to quote a familiar line here, but "the day is coming" [when Warners will announce the full cast for Miller's JL], and everybody better grab onto the side of their desks and hold on tight, 'cause it's gonna be a DOOZIE!!!!! If we knew exactly when the time and day would be, I think we could all prepare better, but we don't. So have a bottle of Tums and a shot of whiskey at the ready. LOL

im a huge smallville fan but i havent seen any of season 6 yet ( i wait for them to be released on dvd,and we get the box sets a little after the usa) and i was just wondering if its been confirmed that season 7 is the last one?

No, I think there will be a season 8. At least Gough and Millar want a season 8, but it won't be confirmed until May I guess. I really want Tom to be Superman in the JL flick. It would be awesome and I really think Smallville will benefit from it next year if people know that Tom is Superman.

i think if he is going to play Supes, itd be great to tie it in to the end of season 7,it might be a bit strange to see him play Superman then go back to playing Clark for more seasons of smallville (as much as i want it to carry on)

Surprised? Hollywood will be, too, and, according to my source, the Writers Guild of America is counting on it.
Here's the deal: TV and movie scribes are already up in arms over issues such as compensation for new media (translation: Internet downloads) and they're primed to strike. But the suits have been content to reassure themselves that it won't happen any sooner than spring, when the Screen Actors Guild contract is up as well and both groups can walk picket lines together.
Instead of waiting, however, WGA members received an e-mail just moments ago announcing a strike authorization vote — the results of which could be revealed in the next 10 days. If they vote to strike, the group could pack up their laptops when its contract expires on Nov. 1.
This would majorly tighten the noose around the necks of the guys holding the purse strings, because movie studios won't have had time to fast-track blockbusters to see them through a strike, and most fall TV shows will only have 10 or 11 episodes in the can at that point.
So what do you think? Will it happen? Should the networks and studios just pony up already? Or will this finally be what brings to the googleplex "Paradise Hotel: The Movie?" — Additional reporting by Ben Katner

I hope they end it this year, but if they don't I hope we don't get shortchanged with Clark, like some rumors flying around that Tom will not be the main character in a season 8.
Pshah on that!

If he isn't in every episode, I'll hate it but I will watch the ones he is in.

If there is a season 8, it'll end before Justice League is released the summer of 09...
There won't be any confusion.

I have a feeling they're serious about it this time.
Last contract talks, the WGA caved when it came to new media profit sharing (internet downloads) and they don't get a penny of that money.
I don't think they'll let it go this time.

i think if he is going to play Supes, itd be great to tie it in to the end of season 7,it might be a bit strange to see him play Superman then go back to playing Clark for more seasons of smallville (as much as i want it to carry on)That will NEVER happen. Even if Welling is cast in JL and the show goes eight seasons, the film won't premiere until *after* the show is completely DONE. SV would end in May '09, which is about as early as anybody would expect JL to unspool. IF this were the scenario, they'd time it so there wouldn't be any overlap. That would be the smartest thing to do.
All that said, IF Welling is cast in JL, I think Clark Kent will BE Superman at the end of S7. If the show was renewed, they'd focus on Kara/Supergirl next year and have Welling come back *as* Superman for a few guest episodes, probably during sweeps weeks. That's just my opinion though. I think the more likely scenario is that they'd fully end SV this season (S7) and then just spin-off Kara, assuming her eps get high ratings and CW is interested in the show enough to give it a half or full season order. LOTS of ifs here.
Oh yeah, one other option - Welling *isn't* cast in JL. Then I think there's a VERY VERY good chance we'll be getting another season after S7, but that would be the last. THEN they'll try to spin-off Supergirl. ;)
Regardless, G&M will need to know from CW no later than November if the intention is to renew the show for an eighth and final season.
There's going to be a LOT of things happening over the next two months - and it might be a hella lot shorter than that. We're all sitting on pins and needles here.

youre right there,as ive said before,i do like the idea of Kara taking over the show with clark/Superman guest appearing (although it would kinda suck if he wasnt always in it) but the shows called Smallville not Clark or Superman so as long as theres a healthy offering of interesting characters why not carry it on when/if welling leaves

You have to host the images yourself, hotlinking is against the rules although everyone does it. *cough*

who writes this garbage?
http://www.canmag.com/nw/9137-justice-league-delayedAnswer: a very biased individual. :o
Excerpts:
"To make matters worse, there aren't high-profile actors lining up to take on some of the heroic gigs. Jessica Biel was considered (very shortly), but she bounced on the project. Though I can't remember her ever making an official statement on why she felt JLA wasn't for her, but one can assume that she saw the upcoming train wreck that the production will likely become."
"The casting for Justice League is expected to remain especially difficult considering we already have a Batman, Christian Bale, and a Superman, Brandon Routh; both of whom will not be joining the film's production. Seriously, who wants to be the secondary Batman or Superman?"
"While the delay of JLA will likely be one of many disappointments during the strike, one has to appreciate the fact that this will at least give Warner Bros. some time to settle down on the production and try to deliver a production not rushed, but something well thought out and executed.
Fingers crossed."
Give me an f'n break! Could that have come off any more biased? :whatever:

Justice League will either
A) Fall Apart
B) The WB pays anything Tom Wellings people want to get him in the role
C) The WB pays off Nolan, Bale & get him in the Batman role through any means & just cast Routh as Superman
D) The rest of the main cast that gets casted will get everything they want & then some

There are a lot of shills crawling around, not to mention people who are obviously in the know, but highly opinionated. I read a post over on the MTV boards this afternoon that was just.... wow. Crazy stuff. Post was from "Peon."
Anyhoo... I don't think it'll be long. For better or for worse, we're gonna find out who the new face of Superman on film will be. And it's gonna be SOON!
