Oh boy. It's crazy out there, Zip. It's hard to know who to believe. There are a lot of shills crawling around, not to mention people who are obviously in the know, but highly opinionated. I read a post over on the MTV boards this afternoon that was just.... wow. Crazy stuff. Post was from "Peon."
Anyhoo... I don't think it'll be long. For better or for worse, we're gonna find out who the new face of Superman on film will be. And it's gonna be SOON!

Just got thru reading the MTV blog and its really comical. When they first asked for people to cast their opinions for who should play Superman the overwhelming random response was Tom and then its like on the 4th page SR fans (maybe 3 or 4) found out and are posting every other post claiming that Brandon Routh has already been signed. It has become a bashfest over there. :ninja:

Wow, isn't it kind of funny that after all this time, the Welling/Routh debate is insane and heated even on an MTV blog? I understand it being a long running argument in comic forums, but this is just craziness to see it spilling over into non-comic sites.
And that Peon had a very interesting comment. I hope, if he's ever wandering through here, that he doesn't mind me reposting it here because I have a question about it.

AOL is part of the Time Warner company, along with WB. They have been doing polling of their users, since even before Superman Returns came out. They run a poll about every few months, on some variation of Superman Returns, Routh, Welling, Smallville, possible sequels, and so forth. Even at the height of Routh’s popularity, when SR was ending it’s run in theaters, Welling was beating the pants off of him in head-to-head polls. Welling was doing 3 to 1 numbers. He was polling especially well amoung teens.
WB suits were not happy.
Time Warner put on the most massive publicity push for Routh that they ever have, for any actor. Routh was on the cover of all Warner mags, and was featured on the inside pages, of their mags, for every month, for a year, leading up to SR. All of Warner’s websites featured Routh. All Warner’s syndicated entertainment shows featured Routh extensively, for a year.
In the summer of 2006, every single aisle of grocery stores had Routh’s face on multiple products. It was impossible to walk down any aisle of any convience store, without seeing Routh’s face. From cereal boxes, to grocery bags, and beyond. Routh was on billboards on every major highway in every city in the country.
Every single division of Warner put everything they had into promoting Routh and SR.
When they got back the general audience polling results, it was devastating. They had failed on a scope, they had not believed possible.
Routh is a pariah to them, because he represents their own failure. They can’t look at him without seeing their own powerlessness. Before, they were firm in their belief of their own power, as public opinion makers and believed, that like Atlas, they could shift the world, if only Warner put every bit of muscle behind it.
They ?*%@ Welling just as much, because he equally represents that failure, and because he has sharks for lawyers, who are screwing them everyway possible on the Smallville contract.
Neither of them will be in JL. Bank on it.
Sooo.. what do you think he means by Welling's lawyers screwing them (Warners) on his SMALLVILLE contract? That should have been a done deal a long time ago, right?

And the Welling part there doesn`t make the slightest kinda sense. They never promoted welling for superman and they have always profited from smallville in a big way. This dude is full of it. Allthough the Routh thing sounds quite believeable.

Why is Tom considered a failure?
And why would they care whether Tom has "?*%@s" them or not?
If he IS the new face of Superman, would they really mind him screwing them over as long as they can make money off of him?
I don't buy that as an argument against Tom.

I`m glad you did Pat. This stuff is interesting and what that Peon guy says about Welling doesn`t exactly add up.
Sure, I can understand the Routh part because they promoted the hell out of him as superman and the movie in general . But what the living hell did he mean about Welling being an equal failure?
Smallville has been a WB favorite for a very long time because it`s been profitable for them. That just didn`t make sense.

As for "Peon" I have no clue as to why Welling would represent SR's failure? No one is making much sense over there. It's all spill over from boards like this.
I'll give you one guess who the clown over there who says Jude Law should play Superman is?

not before the movie came out-in fact they even mention it on the dvd that they tried to keep him out of the press until the movie hype started (what little of it there was),he said himself he just kept his head down and got on with filming.
It was only on these boards that his picture was being posted around cuz people were scrambling for info on him.

I dont know about where you live, but leading up to the release of that movie his mug was all over the place in the US. No one's saying he was getting promoted during filming, we're saying in the few months up to the release. The argument that the film was "under-promoted" is silly, they were handing out copies of the Daily Planet on my train for cripes sake..

Your right it wasnt a year. But it was at least 3 to 4 months before the movie came out because i started seeing his face in stores like walmart in march. I remember thats what made me join the hype in the first place. Seeing his face and the costume got me excited about Superman cause i didnt even know they were doing it until that point in 06.

Last week I decided to watch the season premire of Smallville which was the first time in about 2 years I watched the show to validate my belief that Welling is not the man for the job in JLA. You know what? I changed my mind. The guy sure is bigger then Routh (who I still think is ok as Supes) but more important Welling projects AUTHORITY.
A guy who only wanted to watch because he wanted to validate his position that Welling wasn't the guy to play Superman was won over by his performance on Smallville...

I'm gonna make a few comments about this and move on. THIS is not the place to be discussing SR, after all.
IIRC, the first pictures of Routh IN costume were released around March or April of 2005. For a YEAR before the film unspooled, those pictures were ubiquitous. "Here's the new Superman, what do you think" and articles of that nature appeared everywhere on line and in the entertainment sections of newspapers and magazines. About three months before the film preemed in summer '06, we started to get actual promotion, though it didn't really kick in full tilt till about late May/June sometime. This is pretty much what that poster was referring to. After the film opened, there WERE polls posted on Time Warner owned sites and publications, some of which raised an eyebrow even by me. One such poll was the one posted in late October of '06 - one week before SR ended its domestic run in the US & Canada. It appeared on EW's Popwatch (http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/poll?view=92165&pollId=92248&channel=aol_us_ewpopculture) section.
The poster over at MTV is jaded, cynical and biased about things that were allegedly going on behind the scenes at Warners during that time, but the information about what I saw first hand in terms of public promotion and general audience polls after it opened is spot on. If folks want to disagree with it, that's fine, but it's really a discussion for another forum.
Now, moving on....
I'm scratching my head as to what the poster meant about Welling, but I can speculate:
Being let out of his SV contract is more than just "sign here and here and we're done." Welling leaving SV would effect EVERYBODY. The negotiations that took place were probably insane.
In Hollywood, who doesn't have sharks for lawyers? I thought they were all blood suckers?
Sanchez went from "it's happening," to "it's not happening," to "it's now in Welling's camp." That just sounds like they've been going back and forth trying to reach a compromise.
As far as anybody knows right now, it's still up in the air, but there are enough shills out there that would have you believe every different combination of possible outcome imaginable. The only rumor I haven't seen yet is that BOTH actors are going to be in JL. But hey, there's still time for somebody to float that one.
On another note, I can't believe even Empire Magazine (!!!) is now suggesting Welling. Anybody who knows their editorial history on the Superman topic would know that's like George Steinbrenner suggesting that the Red Sox were in line to win the World Series (again.) :ninja:
I haven't seen the article yet, but apparently it's a small feature on the Justice League in the November issue, which was released yesterday. It stated which characters they'd include and who they would cast in each role:
1./SUPERMAN- Returns' Brandon Routh is apparently out of the picture. Most people say this leaves the way open for small-screen Smallville star Tom welling, finally free to break the series' 'no flights, no tights' rule.
2./BATMAN- Christian Bale has said he won't star, which leaves the possibly confusing prospect of two big-screen batmen. If your looking for brooding, sardonic and authoritative, we're saying you can't beat Serenity's Nathan Fillion.
3./WONDER WOMAN- In this weener-fest you need a strong woman for balance, someone who can make star spangled pants look anything other than ridiculous. How about boosting the career of Buffy the Vampire Slayers Eliza Dushku? Then give her a spin off too.
4./MARTIAN MANHUNTER- The name's pretty daft, but martian's powers of transformation, invisibility and flight could make him great (if costly) on screen. Give Doug Jones, the man who embodied the Silver Surfer, a shot at the role.
5./GREEN ARROW/LANTERN- There's probably room for only one green hero, making it a toss up over whether the verdant corner of the team will be filled by the Robin Hood-like Green Arrow, with his multi-purpose payloads (nets, fireballs, bombs), or the Green Lantern, a masked avenger who uses a magic ring to toss around people and objects. If it's the former, we'd throw the role to swarthy Kiwi Martin Henderson. If it's the latter, you can't go wrong with the underrated Derek Luke.
6./ BLACK CANARY- This minor members power is a shriek that can make ears bleed, so you'll need a very appealing lady if she's to be anything but annoyingly screechy. Perky Anna Farris perhaps? She'll likely only make the cut if the producers decide they need another girl in the mix.
7./ THE FLASH- Fast-moving and fast-talking, The Flash is the joker of the bunch. Ryan Reynolds has already expressed an interest and we can't imagine anyone better suited than the Smokin' Aces star, thanks to his mastery of punch lines and punch-ups.Interesting that they left out Aquaman. Nobody likes Aquaman. :( ;)

Ha! That's pretty awesome. I have always believed that majority of people who endlessly bash Welling's acting and/or Smallville have never really watched the show. Sure, they may catch bits of an episode here or there, but most of the complaining stems from their pre-conceived notions of who or what Tom was before he came on the show. Or they'll harp on the whole WB connection (the oft-mentioned "Dawson's Creek" comparisons).
Just look at threads in which people ***** that Tom's too young or smaller than Routh. More often than not, they'll reach back to promo photos from Season one or his modeling photos from before he was an actor. I think the other percent of fans who claim to hate Welling or Smallville secretly do like the show, but would never admit it since it's cool to bash Welling.
Then you have the Superman fanboys who can't get past the fact that Smallville is its own interpretation of the mythos. They harp on every example of how it doesn't "reflect the source material" or "ignores the comics" (Metropolis in Kansas, Clark meeting Lois, Ollie, Perry, et al). Ironically, a lot of those same people have no problem with a film franchise that essentially ignores 30 years of comic book character development. Funny, that. ;)
At least that's how I see it here at the Hype where posters who I've never even seen before have sigs that not only bash Smallville, but this forum as well. :whatever:

I find the whole uplifting nature of the show and americana elements far closer to Superman than an angst ridden dull movie.

emijayne from CD chimes in with this today:
Okay...so I received an email yesterday that someone had posted a message on another board that a casting office in New York (Susan Shopmaker Casting at 21 East 26th St in New York City) was saying all characters had been cast for JLA. I looked into it and so far 3 of the 8 offices called (not including the named office above) have indeed said casting is finished. Of the remaining ones, 4 had no comment and 1 claimed to know nothing of the project. This all leads me to believe it is true. WB would only say that announcements would be made "in due time". The interesting part is Welling's agent said "I have no comment". Last time this question was asked, Welling's agent actually said he was not cast. Why the sudden change?? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Also, the NY Times article was wrong about the script not being finished. It is on it's 4th draft. I was told it is absolutely good enough to shoot with and that Miller is quite capable of making revisions during production as he sees fit.
My other sources said announcements were expected this Friday but may have been pushed back up to a week. So the wait seems to be almost over. Thank God.

Based on all the casting rumors, spin, suggestions, and prayers so far, im 80% sure.....
Superman - Tom Welling
Flash - Ryan Reynolds
Everyone else im not sure. :)
And... Remember....WB wants BIG names for this film. JL is WB huge blockbuster for 2009. They are going to try to do everything not to screw this up.

I completly agree also.
Look at the one-two punch of Wellings performance in both "Reckoning" and "Vengence". The multi-layers of emotions in both episodes was Emmy worthy IMO. Especially the scene when he finally breaks down in his mothers arms after putting on his father's watch.
After 7 years, I cant see ANYONE else as Superman. Welling is IT.

Y...E...S!
If WB does not cast TW (or to be devil's advocate here, BR) they will lose a majority of the audience. Casting a 3rd Superman would be ill-advised from a business standpoint. And I would hope WB knows this.
Not casting Bale as Batman wouldnt be that big of a problem, since the character would most likely keep the mask on for the entire film.

Just like everyone else I can only speculate, but if the casting is in fact completed and given the change in attitude from Welling's agent plus as you said my source didn't mention I'd hate who was cast as Superman, it is possible this signals great news. I can't say it's a fact and I won't say that. However, as I said, the combination of things makes it look really promising.

Other than that, I'll give anybody else a shot, though I'm hoping... nay praying that it'll be Welling. I'll be there for the first showing if it is. If he's not, my excitement for the film will be directly related to who IS cast, but I'll still see the pic. It just won't be on opening weekend. I'll wait a couple of weeks like I usually do, 'cause I don't like fighting for a good seat. Welling is worth fighting for, however.

Has Robert at IESB said anything :huh:Here's his most recent post:
Sorry about the lack of solid Justice League news, people are being very quiet but I did get an a call from an agent friend of mine from ________ just a few minutes ago and told me that as of yesterday Welling was still in negotiations.
So what has been going on? First let me try to explain a little about the New York Times article, they were wrong, almost.
Pretty simple, I have been told by various sources that this film is moving forward 100%. So is Justice League green lit? Officially no, why? The movie is officially in Prep and could stay in prep mode til about 6 weeks before cameras roll. The reasons studios do this is because once a movie is officially green lit then that is when the studios have to start paying off producers and so on and so on.
By keeping it in pre-production they can hold on to their cash a little longer. This happens all the time and is not new in Hollywood. Pre-production is full steam ahead with all departments working full time on the project.
In regards to Tom Welling, we have been reporting for awhile that WB execs want Welling but that it was always Gough/Millar who were causing problems, they want to be producers on the film. It's always about the dough, fair enough.
I am hearing that key roles have been filled but I haven't been able to get any confirmations of which ones.
I have read what Countingdown is reporting, sound plausible, I think Friday may be a little pre-mature, but who knows.
Oh, almost forgot, the script is complete and has been complete for a bit, who knows maybe a review will pop online sometime soon ;)
Yes friends, Justice League is coming summer of 2009.

Well, for what it's worth, I seriously doubt anything official will be announced right now. It's almost 5:30pm in Hollywood right now; the suits are all stuck in traffic on their way home.
I AM thinking Friday is a distinct possibility however - maybe even Saturday - and here's why. It is my belief that Warners is going to want to make a BIG deal about this announcement. They're going to call a press conference and have Dan Lin and George Miller there. Alan Horn might also be present. They might also want to have the big three there for star power - the actors cast for Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Ryan Reynolds being such a huge fan favorite might be requested too - if he's cast of course.
Welling is currently shooting SV in Vancouver, so he can't just take off for an hour in order to be present, and his casting would be a HUGE deal if it happens. So Warners might want to wait till the weekend or the days that bookend it (Friday or Monday) in order to allow Welling to be there. Doing this near the weekend eases the burden on the SV production, which needs Welling on set every day if possible.
If it doesn't happen this weekend, then it might not be until NEXT weekend before we hear anything official.
This is all speculation on my part though. Maybe Warners will just issue a memo?

So many ups and downs. It's frustrating. I really, severely hope that Welling gets the part. He deserves it, but not only that, we deserve it. The fans that have been following Tom as Clark Kent for over 6 years deserve that closure to the character.
I'm trying not to keep my hopes up. But sometimes hope is the only leg you have to stand on. Fingers crossed everyone.

If Welling does get cast. I do wonder if they will finally lift the bat-embargo from Smallville. I wouldn't surprise me if Gough and Miller's negotiations included this little bit, since they seem to have wanted to introduce Bruce Wayne since well... the beginning.
From a marketing POV, it would make sense to build up anticipation for the JLA film by using this series as a means. In other words, pump more cash into the show, and jack up the quality and action. Kind of like conditioning the audience for bigger and grander things.

Nolan doesn't have anything to do with this now (which is truly a shame), so I'm not sure anything would or could change with Batman on SV.

They already stepped on Nolan's toes by the sheer fact that Batman exists in the JLA. I am not a big fan of the idea either. But if it happens - well it happens.
What I am inferring is of the JLA Batman/Bruce actor guest starring on Smallville. It depends who they cast. If the rumors of it being Gosling or Hartnett etc.. than the chances are lower. The latter (Hartnett) rumored actor did do a screen test for BB.

Hmm. I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, there's the argument that it'll link the continuities too much, because what about the other heroes like Aquaman and MM? They are most assuredly being recast for JL. But the flipside is that casting Welling links the continuities no matter how you slice it; SV fans will most certainly be thinking "their" Clark Kent/Superman (vs. George Miller's version) while watching the film. As I understand it, this is one of the reasons for not using Welling in SR; the characterization was extremely different from what Welling had established.
I dunno, Para. I'll keep an open mind on it. I know SV fans would LOVE to see Bruce Wayne show up in SV, but I really don't think it's worth pissing off Nolan, not to mention the confusion it could cause, because now you've got all these franchises mixing and matching casts to suit somebody else's contract clause. Know what I mean? I want Welling in JL, but I'd really prefer they keep it separate from everything else. Obviously, Welling brings a bit of baggage all on his own, but I think SV fans already see him as Superman. But SV is about Clark Kent, so there's enough of a distinction for folks to hang their hats on. Make sense?

I'm starting to get used to seeing Tom in the suit - this body is from the figurine with the Batman companion, right? - and I like your composition.
Question: what's that on top of the Chrysler-ish building? I'm guessing it's supposed to be the globe on the Daily Planet, but it's not very spherical. It looks kind of like a golden VW Beetle sitting atop a golden \S/-shaped blob. Herbie the Love Bug, melded with a Golden Snitch, teaches Clark how to fly? It's the Frumious Beetle-Snitch! :-> Or maybe the Eye of Sauron...

A few more bits from Counting Down: http://countingdown.com/movies/343447/board?folder=0&viewpost=3995340&start=30
Emijanyne essentially confirms the rumor that "Man of Steel" is intended to be a reboot to the Superman franchise (a la Ed Norton's The Incredible Hulk).
The article that started that was quoting from someone in Singer's camp and not someone from WB. What I was told back in Dec 2006 is the same thing Variety just recently reported which was that it is (and I quote) "INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED". If it were delayed, they'd just say it was delayed. The words they used in Hollywood terms implies the project has been canned and is no longer in development. That doesn't mean we will never see Superman again. All indications that I've been given are the next film will indeed be called Superman: The Man of Steel but that it will reboot the franchise and not be connected to Singer's Superman Returns. WB is supposedly taking a page out of Marvel's playbook and how Hulk is getting a redo.
His actual agent was called.
IESB really doesn't concern me anymore. Trying to be nice to what has seemingly become the competition, I emailed Stephanie on Monday to see if they heard the same thing I had in regards to WB reaching an agreement with Welling and Millar but that Gough was being a greedy *****. She's yet to respond. Now you're telling me they're saying as of Tuesday, Welling is still in negotiations. I guess I prompted a phone call??
You and everyone here knows who posted about Welling first and that I've never wavered from my position no matter how many people have come here and attacked me. It's all just a bit ridiculous at this point. I'm praying it ends soon. I don't need the stress.
Mandrill
10-04-2007, 10:15 AM
As its reported that its Miller and Gough holding this up is there any chance it was them who stopped Tom being cast in SR for the same reasons $$$$ but now WB are prepared to go the extra mile to get Tom.
Obvously a lucky escape for Tom if true...
As I recall didn't Tom at least audition for Superman under Ratner or McG ?Is that what they are going on for his casting in this movie or I suppose ''Smallville'' is a constant audition.
With there now talk of a reboot for Superman after SR (which I am not suprised about as to me you can look at SR being the third in a triliogy after STM and Superman 2 as I don't see where the story would go with how Lois and the Kid situation transpired) could it be M&G want that gig and to use Smallville as part of the back story?

Happy to hear they are going to reboot Superman. I so hated the fact that he had a kid and that Lex was still a (non-corporate) criminal. Although, The scene where he rescues the airplane/shuttle. Would have been the best way to introduce Superman to the general public in an origin film.

No cast members have been confirmed as of yet but I was just told about half an hour ago the entire main cast will be revealed at the same time and that final touches are being put on the contracts over this next week. So I guess that means no news on Friday.
Like I said, put that together with my post with Welling's agent's changed attitude and the casting agencies all saying the cast is done, it does sound very good. I've never given up hope even with people like kavalier coming over and doing nothing but attack what I'm saying simply because Al Gough (the problem) is saying Welling won't be Superman. And if Robert gets the "official" word before I do, that's great for him. I don't look at this as some competition because I don't do it for a living like he does.

I don't claim to be an insider Pat, nor to I encourage that I am. I don't claim to get phone calls, and emails to check my sources on a daily basis. I don't make it a habit of defending my reliability at every turn although I've done so on few occasions. I am skeptical when I check into things and they don't add up. I have nothing against Jayne, don't know her. I just don't hang on every word or post she makes, and why should I. All the terminology is vague, there are never definate answers, and most of what she posts I have read on a website hours before.
I am not saying she doesn't have info, I am not saying she's not in the business. I am just not going to kiss her feet. If you want to take out your shield and defend her then that is fine. She is nothing like Robert, Robert breaks stories everyday and that is his job.

I am skeptical when I check into things and they don't add up. I have nothing against Jayne, don't know her. I just don't hang on every word or post she makes, and why should I. All the terminology is vague, there are never definite answers, and most of what she posts I have read on a website hours before.
I am not saying she doesn't have info, I am not saying she's not in the business. I am just not going to kiss her feet. If you want to take out your shield and defend her then that is fine. She is nothing like Robert, Robert breaks stories everyday and that is his job.Thought that would get your attention.
Show, I'm not saying folks *should* hang on her words, but I see a lot of people attacking her for her bias - and therefore her credibility. She's never claimed to be a reporter like Sanchez. You and others seem to be inferring the old adage that if you throw enough poop at the wall, maybe some of it will stick. Well, she's been hanging her hat on one thing for months, and it started before Sanchez reported it on television. And even when Sanchez said Welling was out of the running, Jayne was saying not true, that he was still in talks. That's been very encouraging to the people like me who've been wanting to see Welling fill the role as Superman on the big screen.
The first "report" in the thread you quoted came *before* an extensive post made by Sanchez the same night. Sanchez said he saw what she said and it sounded plausible. Jayne and the folks at IESB have apparently been e-mailing each other as well. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt because... well... I don't have any reason to doubt her yet.

I think she is 100% bias, that is no secret, and I think to some that hurts her credibility. To others I think her credibility is in question only because they want Routh. To me I just think she is hit or miss. That is just my opinion.
I am not refering to the most recent report by Sanchez, I am refering to some previous posts. Either way the only thing that matters is WB's official announcement, not Jayne's posts or IESB. To me, I just hope this is over with soon so we can all talk about bigger and better things involving JLA.

Plus WB feels like they have hit a homerun by hiring this generation's (arguably)Superman.Well, you know how it is, Docker. We (general "we," not you and I "we") have been through this before. Plus Sanchez made it sound like it was a done deal two months ago, but then "something happened." I have nightmares of that phrase, y'know? LOL
I think most of us have known since early 2004 that there was a sizable faction at WB who wanted Welling to graduate up to their film franchise. They put the feelers out (reference Ross' drawings) and got some reality confirmation on that, and it's grown in leaps and bounds since then. Because fans didn't let it drop. Squeaky wheels eventually get oiled, doncha know? ;)
So I'm about as confident (read: hopeful) as I've ever been that this is going to happen, but I'm not going to get cocky about it until the fat lady sings. Because we all know, this sheet could still fall apart at the 11th hour. It's happened before after all.

I'm not holding my breath. Why would you? I mean, you clearly don't want Welling in this film or any other Superman film, so anything that's even remotely positive towards that end will get shot down until Warners finally announces the cast.
But hey, look on the bright side - maybe they'll say which decade they're planning to release that other Superman film when they announce JL?

weird, interesting conversation...give me a few minutesI asked if he could explain this ^
Here's his reply:
well, I called Gough's reps over at William Morris and got to his agent who quickly told me to call their PR department. Normally, and I am just observing, if a story is not true, the agent will tell you that its not true because they would know, since they would be part of the negotiations, but by them telling me to talk to their PR department felt like they are stalling.
I called the PR department and they ask me to send in an email with the request and questions, which is a pretty standard practice, we do this every week on stories that we are working on but this time it really felt like they are just stalling.
Maybe it's nothing, meanwhile we are waiting for a few calls back from friends over at DC and WB, hopefully we find something out tonight. Wow.

Argh. Of course, it's Friday night. It seems doubtful that these people work weekends.
Then again.. Saturday would be a great day for big announcement with a full cast to present.*cough*
Doing this near the weekend eases the burden on the SV production, which needs Welling on set every day if possible.:D
Just a hunch folks.

Many movies announce their cast piece meal, but I think it is a good move if WB is indeed going to announce the cast in unison. Similar to what sports teams do when they sign big free agents in the offseason.
The writers strike will have nothing to do with casting, if they want things done in October it is because of the timeline leading from pre-production to production and then finally post. It is a very similar timeline to Superman Returns, Routh was announced in October. :cwink:

"***UPDATE***
So far, two contacts have said discussions have been taking place this week but neither have heard whether or not an agreement was reached, two more had "no comment", and one knew nothing at all. The one who told me I wouldn't like who was cast as Batman or Green Lantern, but didn't mention Superman has yet to return my call.
I did get an email from someone who says Robert at IESB called Gough's office and rather than being told it wasn't true, he was directed to the PR dept which he found strange. So, as I was told he put it, there could be some stalling going on by Gough's people which could be a very good sign. I'm sure one of us will have more news soon.

Statement from Al Gough!
http://www.justiceleagueonfilm.com/
"This is utter bull****. We haven't ever been approached by anybody at Warners. This is all utter fabrication.
"There have been many rumors circulating over the past few weeks about Tom Welling's involvement in the Justice League movie," Gough continues. "I can tell you that neither Miles ,myself, nor Warner Bros Television have been approached by WB Features about this film. The last time I checked with Tom's agent, he said they had not been contacted about this project at all. We have a very cordial relationship with both Warner Bros Features and DC Comics, and in all of our discussions over the past few weeks on Smallville business, THIS HASN'T COME UP ONCE. So, there you have it from the horse's mouth--or ass--given some of the message board postings I've seen about myself!"
